Holy crap. I've been to this location a few times before but only ever got the wings or a salad and soup at lunch time. After trying for 20 minutes to find a place to eat at Polaris without an hour wait, we turned around and came back to our neck of Columbus, and thank goodness we did. We were able to get a table as soon as we walked in the door. Our server, Taelor, greeted us almost immediately. She was super kind and helpful -- very attentive even though it was clearly busy in the restaurant. Aside from her, the manager/owner was walking around the floor and checked in on our and others table to ensure everything was up to snuff. So on to the food part. I say again, holy crap. We got one of the small pizzas and split the toppings in half. One side was the buffalo chicken, and the other was the loaded potato pie. Both were PHENOMENAL. I would have never thought to put potatos/ bacon/ sour cream on a slice of pizza but here we are. Living the dream. Would highly recommend trying it. We also got an order of wings -- half sweet thai chili and the other half mild. Both were good sauces. Forewarning the sweet thai chili is definitely more sweet than chili, but still delicious. They seriously needs to fix their old beer problem. I tried this place for the first time with my family last night. The salad was just meh, the mushroom specialty pizza was really good, and I also really enjoyed the crust on the make your own pizza we also ordered. My son wasn't really a fan, and it was nice for my daughter to have a kids menu to choose from. The beer list seemed like a fairly decent selection. With January being Bell's Hoplslam annual release month, I ordered a Hopslam. I drank it and it seemed off, not the similar honey flavors I get each year. My wife had the Columbus Brewing Bohdi, which is also a great beer, but just tasted meh. The menu listed (2020) next to the Hopslam, and I asked the server if that was just a typo and that the Hopslam was this years (2022). She assured me it was, and I trusted her. I got home and cracked a fresh (2022) Hopslam from my refrigerator. That's when I realized 'Holy crap, this place is serving beer that is more than 2 years old **and charging full price.** ' This hop-forward beer, which should be served fresh within 6 months or less, has been sitting for 2 years. Management must have decided that it was too much money to lose and would rather sell their old crappy stale beer at $8 for 10 oz pour than miss out on profit for keeping an old keg of beer that has been sitting since before the pandemic. That is very disappointing, and I won't return here, because it only makes me wonder what other corners they cut. Update: I completely understand that beer tastes different from tap than it does in a can. If it was a typo, and if they are genuinely selling 2022 Hopslam, then I'm concerned about the last time they had their lines properly cleaned, because both the Bohdi and the Hopslam were off. Before ordering beers here, they should be able to tell you the last time the lines were cleaned, and if it's not within the last 3 months, find another place to eat. read more

Must have been a slow kitchen and we weren't in a rush so it didn't matter much. Would still recommend! Waiting for good pizza doesn't bother me. Try the "Maui Wowie" and the "Hey Dude" if you're looking to order off the local menu because both were great! Used to love the pizza here. It's hit or miss. For a small BYO thin crust pizza it cost $15.50. Paid $1.50 for 5-6 slices of pepperoni. Another $1.50 for less than what one small Italian meatball would be and then another $1.50 for what was supposed to be extra cheese. Pizza looked pretty sparse. Last visit ordered the same thing and it was loaded with toppings. Also my wife's meatball sub was supposed to be toasted. Had to send it back to get it toasted. We go to the new Albany location about twice a month and order takeout maybe once a month. My order was wrong and my hubs politely asked her for the right thing. The waitress, Jayla argued that I ordered it wrong then when we asked for her to take the wrong order back because we wouldn't eat it, argued about that too. I told her to forget the replacement order and I sat there with nothing to eat. She didn't even come back to check on my husband, refill drinks etc until he put the credit card down. Then she asks if we want anything else. Just the check please. She comes back with the check and casually says, I took off the item that was wrong and casually as she was walking away says "sorry". Difficult to read the beer menu as letting was partially missing. Ordered our food and it came out promptly. Greek salad was good but missing any sort of dressing. My husbands dinner was stone cold. Wings and his triple meat balls which was disappointing. He was not pleased. My pizza was to have anchovies but it had artichokes. I ate it anyway but did let the server know. Not sure if it was entered wrong or if it was an error in the kitchen. This is the first bad meal we've ever had. Not sure if it was the time of day or what. First time coming into a location, I've only ever had friends order the pizza or bosses when we had to work overtime. I always remember how good the crust is. It's really unique in texture and flavor. Wife had never eaten anything mellow mushroom, so this was an obvious birthday lunch selection for me. Driving to the location is a bit weird, since it's in a "small town" center where all of the buildings are matching in appearance with one way streets. Just gotta keep you're eyes open for the sign and park in the back. Our service was great, very friendly and were sat immediately. We orders pretzels with salt and beer cheese, Thai chili and jerk chicken wings, spinach salad, small pepperoni and garlic pizza, and a small Kosmic karma pizza with extra garlic and extra jalapeños. I had a PBR to drink. The whole meal was just over $62. Everything was prepared quickly and tasted awesome! A tip, the "whole pretzel" is six normal sized pretzels. We didn't know that and ended up with more leftovers than expected, which just means lunch for the workweek! Was a great experience all around! The meatball and Italian hoagies are terrible. I would recommend that the owner try Firehouse subs which are 100% better. We ordered the chicken wings as an appetizer which came out after we were served our hoagies. Maybe I'm wrong but isn't the appetizer supposed to come out before the main entry? It wasn't that crowed and there were plenty of people standing around in the kitchen so that wasn't an issue. The waitress brought us a plastic to go box which we really didn't want. We took the lid off and it was wet inside with a tiny piece of something on it. It looked like it could have been previously used. The wings were great. We come to the Fox in the Snow in New Albany every Sunday morning and have been meaning to check Mellow Mushroom out. We came in today a little after one and were seated quite quickly. The atmosphere is relaxed and the decor is a tad like an acid trip. They have an epic industrial life-size C-3PO and R2-D2 at the enrance area. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip and the Hey Dude pizza. Our server Rocco was very attentive with our drink refills and updating us on the status of our pizza. He also got us more garlic toasties for our spinach artichoke dip when he saw that we still had more dip left, but no toasties. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and will be back again. read more

Okay, so after giving this location a 2 star review previously, one of the owners reached out to me and offered me a gift card to give this location a second chance. To be honest, I wasn't optimistic because I feel like changes are rarely made with all kitchen staff across the board at a particular restaurant, but we accepted and received our gift card 2 days later. We ordered our usual that Friday night- pizza with extra cheese, light sauce, sausage and jalapeños on the whole thing, and mushrooms on half. Lo and behold, the order was correct and they definitely put on the extra cheese this time! The pizza was delicious, so the following Friday we gave it another shot. Same thing! Pizza was good quality, was as we ordered it, and had the extra cheese! We've ordered every Friday since then and are really happy and impressed that the owner really took our review and feedback to heart, really followed through with informing the kitchen staff, and that they have been consistent every time so far! We will definitely continue ordering from this Mellow, and I would certainly recommend this location now! read more

Saturday Night - pizza took 40 min which they warned us about, after we ordered. We got no silverware, had to ask, then they only have 3 left so we had to share. Meanwhile 3-4 staff members just standing around. We had to wait 20 min to get our check. I had to ask twice to have a dirty plate removed from our table so we could eat our dinner. A much improved experience! I had been once before, years earlier, and I remember a gap between what I wanted the place to be, and what it was. Such a great draft list! Such a great menu! But the food just didn't taste good. Fast toward to this past month- pizzas were tasty and generous with the cheese. My wife had a great Greek salad- huge and in a BIG bowl (lil' heavy on the feta). What a disappointing dinner. Server literally forgot about us not once, not twice but three times. A level of ADHD I have never seen before. We were just about to walk out and I finally decided just to wave him down and said hello remember us? He apologized and comped us our drinks we had ordered 3 times over 25 minutes. Beer was good and girlfriend liked her Sunset drink. We ordered two salads. A full sized Cobb and a "lil" spinach. They came out exactly the same size... The Cobb salad was gross and full of lettuce that had turned red. The Spinach salad was good at first bite. Then the second bite revealed decomposing spinach slime. Asked for the bill, paid and left. They always get our order wrong and Ive actually had pizzas delivered that had all the toppings slide off - I'm assuming the pizzas were dropped or fell off the drivers seat? I have had nothing short of EXCELLENT experiences here. I've been to two other Mellow locations in the Columbus area, this one happens to be closest to my home. In the years it's been open, we've dined in multiple times, celebrated birthdays here, picked up a take-out order on occasion, they always do it right! I love their selection of unique pizzas. My kids eat cheese pizza there, and at most places I would too, but the Kosmic Karma and white pizzas are pretty amazing, so I have to change it up for mellow. (I'm vegetarian, so I cannot comment on all toppings/specialty pies) My kids and also love their "pretzel" appetizers. These are actually pizza dough to dip in sauce that are shaped like pretzels. My wife had the avocado sandwich last time and enjoyed it as well. When we took my parents here, they were both surprised by how good the food was! The craft beer selection is one of the best in New Albany, if not THE best. The service is always top-notch, we really appreciate their energy, friendliness, and willingness to go above and beyond. It's as if they appreciate that this is a rare thing for our family to get out to eat together and spend the time and money in their establishment- so they go the extra mile! My daughter's birthday there last year was made especially special by our server! The kids also love this place because if you ask your server, they'll give you a a piece of raw dough to play with. The thing about Mellow Mushroom is... don't go if your group is larger than probable four people. We went for a team lunch - we got there at 11:30, and it wasn't too busy. We put in our orders, and... we waited. And waited. And waited. It was almost an hour before we got our food order (it was about nine people total, I believe) - so our "should be an hour" lunch turned into two hours. So... if you like their food (I mean, they're not my favorite pizza in town, but it's not bad, their appetizers and sandwiches are good, too) - I'd suggest sticking to small groups coming here. read more
