Where to begin? This used to be such a great place to eat for families but as the saying goes all things must change. Upon entering the restaurant the hostess didn't acknowledge our party until I told her there were 5 in our party with 2 of them being children. This threw her completely and she stared at another co worker(who also chose not to acknowledge us) for help. She asked him if she should give silverware to the children. That was our first clue that this wasn't going to end well. Once seated, it took at least 10 minutes for our server to take our drink order and at least that long for the drinks to be delivered (all soft drinks). As for the menu, they had no selections for children. Nothing. Nyet. Nada. What family restaurant doesn't have a section just for the kiddos? The answer: Mellow Mushroom. I guess they expected the kids to graze like cattle from the adults' plates. Our server, while pleasant, disappeared regularly and we had to ask for drink refills when she did make an appearance. The food was passable but certainly nothing to brag about. They changed up their menu and deleted their once-delicious hummus - something we all were looking forward to sharing. The music was great, hence the two star rating. If you're looking for a fun and welcoming place to take your family, this isn't it. With so many restaurants trying to stay afloat during these challenging times, the many deficits encountered with Mellow Mushroom makes me wonder just how long their doors will remain open. From the lack of friendliness upon entering to the magically disappearing server, we will give this place a pass for the next several months until they can get the act together. read more

Food was really good but the service was awful! Half our order never arrived. Thirty minutes for a soda refill. Ordered a virgin colada for my daughter and she said that since she didn't have a "key" for that she'd have to charge her for the alcoholic version. Really??? We'd seen big crowds out the door since this place opened, but we were able to get in Sunday right at noon. The weather was pleasant so we sad "outside" in the bar area, which has funky garage doors they open to let in a breeze. It was very pleasant. We had small pizzas, each. My wife and I shared the Maui Wowie and the Thai Dye. It's fair to say that we didn't have a favorite because both were phenomenal. Our service was great. Went with a group for trivia night and everyone had to wait at least 20 minutes for drinks. I had to wait even longer because the waitress said they didn't have the beer I ordered (which was on the menu?) The only time we saw our waitress was if she brought us food, and she never asked if anyone needed anything so I only got to order 1 beer for the two hours we were there. After our meal and trivia when it was time to pay, we couldn't! Because our waitress couldn't figure out how to split checks so we waited (the theme of the night) 20-30 mins and even asked management to help. Every single staff member had an atrocious attitude!!! The only reason I'm not giving Mellow Mushrooms five stars is because it seems to always take a while to get your food AND I'm upcharged for vegan cheese. In town for work and visited mellow mushroom with a coworker for lunch. First we ordered Parmesan Pretzels with beer cheese dip. This took awhile to get to us but well worth the wait. Hot, fresh,and very delicious. I enjoyed this part of my meal the most. Next I got my chef salad with ranch dressing. It was not fresh. Brown lettuce throughout the salad, so I sent it back and said I no longer want a salad. Last came our final dishes. Coworker ordered an individual thin crust pepperoni pizza. She said it was tasty and came out very fresh. I ordered the steak and cheese calzone. It came out hot and fresh. It looked beautiful. It tasted good but it was way too much bread. I was only able to eat half at the time, so I took the rest with me. This evening when I went to heat it up, it does not do well for leftovers. So that part was a waste. What I didn't like was when they brought me the check they were still charging me for the salad that I returned and didn't eat. They corrected the mistake and removed it from the bill though. I can't say it was a terrible experience. I enjoyed some things but not all. I would revisit and try the pizza next time. And will definitely get more pretzels and beer cheese. We love going to Mellow Mushroom. Anytime one is near count us in. This location in Roanoke we've been there at least a dozen times. Always a great time with amazing pizza. However this last time. Staff was rude, waited almost an hour for one pizza, and the pizza was not any good. I could understand most if it was during a busy time but there were less then 10 people there eating. Guess every place as a bad day and one bad day doesn't beat all the great meals and service we've had at this one. Will be giving them another try. read more

Service is great, and that's by Roanoke standards, which are pretty high. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is good -- I remember the 70s, and the nostalgia factor hits some of the right notes. The pizza? Well, it's alright. A step above Chuck E. Cheese, but no better than Pizza Hut or Papa John's. The crust is good, but the tomato sauce is not -- kind of reminiscent of Prego spaghetti sauce, which is neither sweet or spicy. I will avoid the traditional tomato sauce pizza from now on. However, the specialty pizza I've had is pretty tasty (loaded potato). It's not a "real" pizza, but we enjoyed it , and I look forward to trying some of their white pizzas. For a traditional pizza, though, I'll stick with Grace's Place. read more

Our server was very uncaring and acted as if she didn't want to be there. I tried to order a flight of beer (4 tastings) and she had to come back 3 times to tell me they were out of what I chose. On the 4th try she brought me back a single draft beer and I said I wanted a flight and the last beer you wrote down filled out my flight. She got mad and huffed at me and I told her to cancel the flight and bring me a coke. She brought our pizza and didn't come back to check on us until we were finished. Other restaurants that serve beer, the servers know what they are out of and can tell me before I even order. I think more training is needed for the staff to know what is available when guests sit down to order. read more

My family and I visited the restaurant in Lynchburg, Va at Cornerstone. Well let me enlighten you. I'm pretty picky about my pizza so I didn't care for this one. So I ordered soup and just as I suspected a pizza joint should not serve soup. It was served like a sauce. It didn't even look like a soup. It was just as bad as the pizza. The only redeeming item was the baked chicken wings. Seasoned well, tender and moist and a nice crispy brown. So...at least something on the menu was tasty. Oh the restaurant was nice too. I have to say that I have been to quite a few other mellow mushrooms before, and I'm sincerely disappointed in this location. I decided to go just after the dinner hour with a friend, for some food and a couple of drinks. However, neither of those were ever acquired as we waited almost twenty-five minutes before anyone even acknowledged us at our table. The staff at this location seem decent but the bar staff were very busy talking with friends and paying no attention to customers or what needed to be done. Numerous tables were dirty and it was easy to tell that they were obviously behind on what needed to get done. After waiting and waiting we decided to leave, as we were obviously not a priority at this establishment and could not justify staying any longer. I am writing this review having been to numerous Mellow Mushrooms before, and I can say that they are nothing to write home about; it is below average pizza to say the least. You go for environment and the setting, which in our case, was very subpar. If you want good, overly expensive pizza in Roanoke, go to Mellow Mushroom. If you want great pizza, look else where. read more

Worst experience ever! I went there with my autistic son and during our delicious dinner, we noticed this tweaked looking woman at the host stand making fun of my child. She was pointing and laughing saying "durdurdur" at my child. Not to mention she had dirty finger nails and looked like she was off IT. I will be calling management in the morning. My husband and I stopped in for dinner last night. Knowing we wanted to sit at the bar we just headed in and sat at the bar. The bartender walked past us three times not even acknowledging us. I finally had to go over and ask her if she could help us. She said that we needed to check in with the hostess. But said she would help us just give her a sec. this went on for 10 minutes. I have never had a worst experience. To not even be looked at or acknowledged after 10 minutes of sitting there was enough for us to just get up and walk out. I don't know why we keep trying to go to there to eat. Every single time were in there there seems to be some type of problem. Poorly run. Funny when I was telling people today at work. This is disappointing to write as Mellow is one of my favorite franchises... not this one. The only stars here are for the deliciousness of Mellow Mushroom pizza and the quasi-outdoor bar area, which is very cool. From my 3 visits so far and from the many things I've heard about this location, it needs a total staff overhaul. Food takes far too long to come out and is not up to par with the quality at other MM locations. The excuse from the manager was the high volume of the restaurant. That was understandable in the opening weeks but they have not since gotten their act together... also, the restaurant was only about half full. Their kitchen can't keep up with the capacity the restaurant was designed to hold, which doesn't make sense. It took them awhile to offer takeout and now that they do, make sure you call in your order exactly 30 minutes ahead because they don't have a system in place to make any advance order. If you want to pick up your pizza in an hour, you will be told to call back in 30 minutes and place your order then. Really?? This is a basic service even most fast food restaurants have now. I've had neglectful wait staff and weird vibes from the hostesses. I would give 5 stars to every other Mellow Mushroom I've been to. I really hope this one cleans up its act soon because I'd love for it to be successful in Roanoke. read more

Food was ok. Server was great! (Rainey) she was very upbeat and smiled all the time. Genuine. We ordered sandwiches. I ordered a full but got half. Which was ok since it was just ok. I ordered potatoes to replace chips, was not made aware of $1.99 upcharge!!! Would not have paid that since they were dry and not many onions. We ordered the mushroom soup, it was really good although not as hot as it should be. We had a poor experience at Mellow Mushroom. We had been looking forward to our visit as we had heard good things about other stores in the chain. It took almost an hour for three of our five pizzas to arrive (and another ten for the other two). The restaurant wasn't even half-full. They ranged from okay to good, but none were exceptional. Two of our five pizzas were gluten-free to accommodate, in part, our four-year-old who cannot eat it. Even she wasn't interested in the soggy, cold pizza brought to our table ten minutes after the others. I ate only the toppings and my seven-year-old wouldn't go near it. We ordered a variety of pizza toppings: house special, great white, all veggie, pepperoni, and cheese. The saving grace was our wait staff: attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The management was very apologetic and accommodating when we voiced our concerns, but I do not have the time or money to waste on an experience like this again. read more

Ordered just fine but we tried to order another round of drinks from the bar at 9:40 and was told VA Law we could not get another round even though we weren't informed that it would be last call do we want another round. Server came to our table a total of two times our whole visit. Never returned to the table after we had the manager over. We told Abigayle what our server told us and she immediately got us another round and apologized without hesitation. She's a really amazing manager and personable. Being vegan, I've always loved that Mellow Mushroom has options. However, the other day I ordered a vegan thai dye pizza to go and requested for tempeh to be substituted for the chicken. When I arrived home I was upset to find they had put both tempeh and chicken on the pizza. This became even more disappointing when I went in today to try and get this corrected but was told that it wasn't possible. Went to celebrate my son's 5th birthday on a busy Saturday night. We waited about 40 minutes for a table which wasn't bad we scored some seats in front of the old school bookcase fireplace with a T.V. Service was outstanding, we have a peanut/tree allergy and really wasn't to keen on how the server answered our questions and we asked to speak to the manager and Jerry the manager handled our questions and concerns wonderful, he even put on an apron and helped make our order. We were really surprised how attentive Jerry was we almost saw him more than our server. We like the franchise because of its allergen menu but had outstanding service from the manager of this establishment. Hopefully Lynchburg will be getting one soon! read more
