The decor is totally awesome and has psychedelic huge mushrooms all over the dining room but this isn't just about the theme of Alice in Wonderland/red pill/blue pill or whathaveyou. It's about the pizza. It is always delicious, has consistent great presentation in comparison to your run of the mill pizza place where you might end up with half the pizza on the top of the box or overcooked. I am partial to the ThaiDye and my spouse is dedicated to the Holy Shiitake and says it's the best pizza that exists in the universe. We also really love their mushroom soup and garlic wings. We came in on a Sunday afternoon for a quick bite a drink and ordered food togo.. our waitress was awesome. We sat in the bar area my wife had the "Pineapple Express mock tail" and I had the "Sunset in Paradise" but the real deal and they both were really refreshing and hit the spot ! I came for the"Stuffed Portabella Mushroom" but unfortunately they were out of them so I got the "spinach artichoke dip" and it was super cheesy but good she got the steak and cheese calzone she said that it was way to cheesy for her but still good. It took me three years of living in Kentucky before I made it to a Mellow Mushroom. I love pizza. I love hippies. Why didn't I find myself here sooner!? And this isn't even a Lexington location, like the ones near me, but all the way in Somerset! Somesert? Yep. My husband, baby, and I met our friends (who were in Somerset at the time and have a baby the same age) for lunch here one sunny summer Sunday afternoon. I walked in and was amazed to see a large, spacious dining space..... with so many multi-colored lights and metal artwork everywhere! Color explosion. We sat at a large table that looked as if it were sliced from the trunk of a tree. The waitress brought out two high chairs for our babies to sit and yell at each other. We were all spread out around this giant tree trunk table. Almost too big, actually. But still really neat. We skipped the beer and went straight to the pizza. So many mouth-watering options on the menu, but you can make your own. Since my husband and I never agree on anything, we each got our own pizzas. I had a loaded veggie and he had a buffalo chicken. They were served rather quickly, piping hot! The pizza was delicious. Wonderful. So good. .....But it still doesn't beat pizza from back in Chicago..... hence, the four stars. :) Plus, it's crazy expensive. We can't really afford to eat here again. Had a wait of 15 minutes which wasn't bad. However once we got seated it took almost an hour before we received our food.

Stopped in from the lake for pizza with my dog. The manager would not allow my husband and I with our dog to sit on the patio because it had rained. Nothing a towel to wipe off seats wouldn't have fixed. We even called before going just to make sure we could eat on the patio. So-- we were "those customers" who show up 30 mins before closing. As much as I hate to be "those people" their pizza is just too good not to. We were presently surprised with how inviting the staff was and amazing the pizza was. We weren't rushed out or put off and ignored. Our waitress, Michelle, even helped us customize our pizza and gave us suggestion on craft beers. Service was fast. Beer was good. pizza was awesome. Whoa, what a greeting from Pam! She is the perfect person to have up front, such a radiant, warm, and welcoming personality! Great listener and super helpful. Apparently she's been there since the opening of this Mellow Mushroom and knows all there is to know and more . There is a lot to know as this is a grand and extensive menu with loads of choices from apps, to mains, to sides, and even desserts and drinks. We placed a "to go" order, she told us it would be 30 minutes, and offered us soft drinks while we wait. We came back in about 20 so I had the time to look around: they have a large bar area and several large separate areas to eat...they seem to be on top of Covid restrictions; social distancing and requiring masks when not eating. Also, there is abundance of staff to manage nicely. Our food was ready BEFORE the estimated 30 minutes. Pam kindly went through my order with me to confirm all was as expected: a small salad (nice), a stuffed portobello mushroom (outstanding), a small pizza for my husband-possibly a kosmic Karma (?)- which was excellent, and mine...which was sort of like a Hawaiian but subbing tempeh for meat as I don't eat meat-fantastic! So, the taste of the crust and the ingredients would be enough to earn 5 stars, but, the fact you can sun tempeh or tofu earns another 5. Btw, the crust is vegan. The size of the pizzas earns it another 5 stars. So we're up to about 100 stars when one considers all of this places strengths! And...I neglected to mention the ginormous, delicious cookies we got for dessert! read more

I visit Somerset a few times a year for business. I don't know if this is a chain or not, it looks like it isn't, but I always make one of my meals a stop here. Nice people, good service, and good food with taste that seems like it comes from quality ingredients. I travel often, and can tell when food os parred with lower grade ingredients, and this does not give that impression. Well recommended, I have not had something bad here yet. I've had chicken wings, pizza and one day even a great burger for lunch... The Mellow Mushroom has earned my aplomb... read more
