When my husband calmly raised concerns with the manager about dismissive service, he was dismissed and the behavior was supported rather than corrected. Several teenage employees then acted in a coordinated, mocking manner, chanting "you're getting kicked out" and "we don't want your money." My husband is hard of hearing and a disabled U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran. When I tried to explain this, the manager said, "People with disabilities like your husband need to stay home," and told us they did not want our business. Given previous food issues, this confirmed a serious decline in standards. The one bright spot afterward was discovering The Gondolier--an Old World, NYC-style Italian restaurant with authentic food, warm hospitality, veteran discounts, and a military family-run business that treats customers with dignity.

It was big enough for 2 people to share, but (except for the bite that I gave my wife) I devoured the whole thing! Gondolier is what I would call a small chain restaurant. There are a few scattered around (even one in Sevierville, TN) but they are still small enough to always use top quality ingredients and keep their prices very affordable. There use to be one closer to me in Berea, KY, but unfortunately it closed. You may think this crazy to read, but Gondolier has one of the best cheeseburgers that I have ever had!
