I love Mellow mushroom pizza! I can't say this enough but their crust is so perfect, soft in the inside and crispy on the outside. If you check in on Yelp, you get a free order of pretzel bites which was so good! First time at this location and no complaints here. It was my first time at this location. Their prices were great for food and drinks. We ordered 10 piece wings, artichoke dip and I think it was their house medium pizza(supreme) and 2 cocktails. We split it between 3 people and there were pizza left over. It came out to be around 60 dollars which was insane. I know they have a great happy hour menu too. read more

The food was really good, me and my friend chose the great white and I chose a cider beer and I really loved both! We pigged out! However our server wasn't the best. As soon as we walked in, it was completely dead, maybe one customer at the bar. We had to see her for service and a table and she just seemed not welcoming. So underrated? This is the place for pizza... and Cocktails. Pizza is phenomenal, I've been to so many pizza places and this has become one of my favorites. I will say though, the toppings can be expensive, depending what you consider expensive! For 2 medium pizzas(4 toppings each pizza) with 2 cocktails total was about 120 with tip included. The most expensive thing was of course the pizza so be prepared. We just added toppings with out knowing. but definitely the place to spend your money on pizza. Our last two visits at this location have been enough for us to not return. We overheard the who we learned was the bar manager brag about being 'blacked' to the men that were sitting next to us for I shit you not a good 20 minutes. Not a good look. We asked her male counterpart if this woman hated her job due to her complete lack of interaction with us. His response was 'she's our bar manager and only likes to wait on dudes'. The employee's also don't realize as paying customers, we don't want to hear the disgusting sexual comments amongst your peers. We should not hear who is doing what with who. I get it, it's a restaurant and that stuff happens but it's gross and totally unprofessional. We just got take out from this location and could not be more disappointed. We waited an hour to get our food only for the soup to be cold, potatoes undercooked, and missing our sides. I ordered a hoagie, which I wish I took a picture of, it was a literal slice of bread with avocado and sliced cheese- not even toasted. No heaters in the outside area, waitress did the bare minimum. After hearing about Mellow Mushroom for years, I finally came here before a show at Gammage. The calzone I ordered was probably the worst calzone I have ever had. It was pizza dough folded over a thick goo of mozzarella cheese. I never had a calzone that didn't also have ricotta cheese inside. I could have ordered a cheese pizza if I would have known. I would do 0 stars but Yelp wouldn't let me. I was just trying to sit down and eat with my friends and family but they carded us and took my sisters and friends ID and claimed it was fake. They then threatened to call the cops afterwards and asked if we wanted to sit anyways and obviously we were not after that interaction. For the amount of people actually paying to eat there, it seemed alarming how concerned they were about identification when it was simply just a pizza place. This place is conveniently located across from the Westin hotel & was EXACTLY what I was looking for. The atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxed. There was chill music playing at a nice volume, not too loud, which I appreciate. The seating is very spacious and I felt very comfortable in the clean and roomy booth I dined at. The staff were friendly and gave me a perfect amount of time and space between ordering, serving, and checking in to see if I needed anything. I used to love this restaurant. The vibes were so on point every time I went there, with the music, the atmosphere, etc. However, the last couple times I've been here, it's just been so off. The first most recent time, our waiter wasn't rude... just unprofessional and disingenuous. Not too bad just weird, and then it took a very long time to get the check, and so we asked, and our waiter said that he was sorry and that he had told another waitress to handle the check... even though it wasn't her responsibility... and that she must have forgotten... hmm. The second most recent time, was even weirder. My family and I were basically rushed to leave, we were served like abnormally fast, and while we still were eating, we were brought the check, not even asked if we wanted the check or dessert, or anything like that. Slight complaint, both times there was something wrong with my salad, something missing, and next time the dressing was absolutely disgusting and I have no idea why, it's the same dressing I get each time. Another slight complaint about recently, the music is so bad. I understand that everyone has different tastes, but the whole ambience of the restaurant is supposed to be all 70's and groovy, with the decor, etc. It's literally called MELLOW mushrooms. But recently, the music has just been trashy, like 2000's sports bar vibes. Working in a restaurant is a tough gig. Understandably, some employees, including managers, pay lip service to helping customers. Then, there are employees like Jaylen, at Mellow Mushroom in downtown Tempe, who are genuinely willing to service customers. Wrong toppings were used for my pizza takeout order. Of course, an honest mistake. The next day, I returned pizza to store hoping to get a replacement. Of the two people I spoke to, it was Jaylen who stepped up with sincerity to rectify the situation. He promptly made a new pizza with correct toppings. He came over multiple times to seek details about how I prefer my pizza prepared, seasoned, baked and cut. In short, he went above and beyond. Jaylen, if he wants the position, seems like a good candidate for a managerial position. The best indicator of a person's character is what they do when no one else is looking. On a Thursday late afternoon, during slow business, at the takeout window with no other customers in line or any supervisors at his side, Jaylen conducted himself as a model employee. Just decided to try this place out because I had seen it on Instagram and I went through the take out entrance none of the 3 employees acknowledged that I was there and I read the sign that said "to goes needed to go the end of the bar" and so I had to go inside the regular way. Place was nearly deserted. They had one person working in the bar he was grabbing drinks, taking a phone call, and then helping me. Service was okay, not good. Wouldn't recommend this place during the day maybe at night if they have more staff to actually help and make you feel welcomed. Pretzel bites were very bland so the beer cheese is necessary but even then the cheese doesn't have much flavor either. Pizza was nothing special. Waste of money. Came here after a day party. Lit, hungry, and tired. This place was our saving grace and we ordered some of the most basic items and left happy as clams. My date and I shared a medium cheese pizza with an order of Thai chili wings. I asked for garlic to put on pizza in which our server gave us garlic aioli. Dipped our pizza in that and it was bangin. Pizza was delicious on its own but the garlic aioli put it one step above. Loved this place, great food, great service. True rating: 3/5 The beer cheese was eh. The garlic bread was good! The cosmic pizza was good but needed to be cooked a little longer as the bottom of the crust was soft and not crispy. You gotta have that crisp!! I liked their menu design but I was expecting that same vibe throughout the entire restaurant. We had good customer service but being my first time there I expected a little more. It also took a little long for our food to arrive and to receive our bill. The bartender was our server and instead of bringing us drinks or greeting us properly. He sat and gave a free throw drink tasting to friends at the bar. He then came and took out order. After 50 mins in the restaurant we still had no food in that time .. He talked to our table 2 times to drop water and to take order. But was very active at the tables around us, ensure they have food and great service. Another couple walked in after us and we're immediately served and brought beers. As the ONLY black people in the restaurant i feel this was extremely racially motivated and disrespectful. After an hour, no food and poor service we just decided to leave. read more
