We have been with Dr Melmed now for 9 years. We love him! He is a great doctor! We have 4 kids with special needs. I must say that the staff has changed a bit over the years, most of the same people are still there though. I still think that at times they need customer service training, but they have improved overall. There are still some practices that I find difficult such as 48hrs notice for cancelation or a $75 fee. I have rarely canceled and when we did was for true emergencies that we didn't plan for. In the other hand, I have had their office re-schedule my appointments within a day from the apt. They also charge fees for normal office business services that are free at all other doctor offices in the world. So that is bit annoying but then I avoid them, as it seems that is their purpose after all. Our visits now are through Telehealth during COVID and I would give 5 starts as everything has been perfect! I love that I don't have to interact with the staff or drive over with the children. It makes it so much easier. I hope we can continue using Telehealth it's has been a game changer for our family. read more

This place is the absolute worst. They messed up my son's prescription. When I tried to get it fixed, the PA we saw just kept denying the request to correct without explaining to us why. We switched my son back to his pediatrician for treatment. Then, they randomly started billing my credit card even though we had no balance with them and I never told them to keep a card on file. There were over $300 in fraudulent charges on my credit card. I had to report it to my bank and get a new credit card number to prevent them from defrauding me. If you have ever been to this place, please monitor you card activity so they don't defraud you as well. read more

Being first timers with a 5 y/o son with ADHD. I really want to say good things about this place Melmed now renamed Cortica. But I can't. Our son's phycologist was really good but he is no longer with Melmed/Cortica. They have horrible service in general. When you call the front desk and leave multiple phone messages, no one calls you back. When you call the medical desk, same story. No one ever calls back... unless you call every day for at least one week. If you are lucky enough to speak to someone, their line is: "I sent a message, someone should get back to you soon" - soon for them is maybe a few days later. To obtain my son's ADHD medication is a very difficulty since his medication is a controlled substance. So if you run out of medication, do not expect a good quality of care. One would think Cortica (aka melmed) would have their stuff together but no, it's a show between communication with them and the pharmacy. Normally the pharmacy is correct when it comes to "who made the mistake ordering the medication" This place has horrible communicating issues and no follow ups. Don't waste your time. Don't even bother. The appointment communication is obnoxious and inconclusive. You can't call and speak with anyone, they never answer the phone. The waiting room is run down and dirty. Horribly loud hand dryers in the rest room. You can hear the "care team" in the back talking crap about you as you wait to be seen. Was told to come in to our appointment still even though they had mixed up our times and when we showed up they denied us and said "had you been here 4 minutes ago it would have been fine, we will however still need to charge you" read more

My child was a patient at Melmed for 4 years, diagnosed with ADHD just before his 6th birthday. We went through several providers and finally settled on one that seemed to be the best fit. It was always difficult to get our medication called in on time. Especially around holidays and summers. No one ever called us back in a timely fashion, I'd have to leave several messages, sometimes in a panic that my child wasn't going to get his medication to be able to return to school. The front office staff acts like you're the problem for needing anything at all, like not hearing from a provider after 2 days or before a weekend is completely normal and an attitude of providers will call you when they get around to it. We dealt with that for four years and then they stopped taking our insurance. Not wanting to change providers, we dealt with that and paid out-of-pocket for over a year. Then our main provider retired and we were placed with a different provider. That provider mostly wanted to do telehealth visits which were astronomical in price and had actually doubled from the price we were paying before that. It was very hard to speak to a provider on video with a child that has ADHD and it just wasn't a good fit. This is a facility that I feel like just wants to make their money and is not considerate, empathetic or understanding at all of what parents are going through. If you want to be stressed out all of the time about your child's ADHD or autism, then Melmed is the place for you. But if not, I would say run as fast as you can, and find a different provider! We have taken our son to Melmed Center for many years because there are no other options. When our insurance changed, we had to start paying an in-house cash fee. They don't accept AHCCCS either. That's disappointing because most of these kids who are seen in this office are with AZEIP or DDD. We are grateful for Dr. PeBenito. She has given us wonderful care. The thing I am most frustrated about is their Covid protocols. We are two years into the crazy and we are still doing Telehealth visits. How can you properly examine and interact with a child on a screen? It's unnatural. The science tells us kids are the least likely to get severe COVID-19 and die from it. Yet, they are still wanting to muzzle the kids for evaluations? Their current policy is they are seeing patients in person if insurance doesn't cover a Telehealth visit. When are you going to get back to welcoming your kids in person without masks? This is a blatant attack on our children. My 11am Telehealth visit started at 11:07am and ended at 11:40 on 2/9/22. I paid my $180 for a 33 min visit. I think Melmed Center is making a lot more money with Telehealth visits rather than in person visits and it's sad. It's disappointing that money is the driving force for a medical practice where they should be investing their time and compassion IN PERSON with their patients. Remember, mental health issues still exist. And, continuing to to isolate with a Telehealth visit is not the answer. I think Melmed Center needs some competition. They have been a monopoly for far too long. I hope things change for the better soon. read more

First I will say that the actual PROVIDERS are amazing. I have been SO HAPPY with Dr. Shepard and Dr. Chao. I would give the doctors 5 stars. HOWEVER, I would give the experience I had today ZERO stars, because it was unbelievable. I called them this morning to hear the measures that we needed to be aware of for COVID, as they had left a voicemail telling me to call to get the instruction over the phone. On the call, they told us we need to arrive early, wear masks and wash our hands when we came in. That's fine, we obliged. We get there and the man who opened the door told us only one parent was allowed in, and while he went to go get the thermometer I gathered my courage to speak up and tell him no one told us that we could only have one parent and my husband had taken off work to be here for this appointment. He told me that I had been told in a voicemail that had been left for me. (Note: This was him telling me that I was lying.) I PULLED UP THE VOICEMAIL which is transcribed by Google, and it made no mention of the rule - I will attach the transcriptions as photos. (I blurred out the number they said because it transcribed off by one number, and I don't want to give someone's number out here.) I even played the voicemail for him that made NO MENTION of the rule, and told him to show me the CDC guideline they were basing the policy on. He told me I was wrong, and that this is their office policy and that they can make whatever rules they want. At this point, I told him to go back to the back office, because him telling me I'm wrong and a liar wasn't helping the situation, where I heard him through the wall making fun of me to other staff. He came out again and was on such an unreasonable power trip, and continued to gaslight me and told me I didn't speak to anyone at the office this morning. (Screenshot provided below of when I called them this morning. The blurred out call was to my mom, coordinating getting face masks so we could abide by their policies.) He told me the director said, "Office policy" and would not make an exception, even though we all live in the same house. I told him to bring the director out to speak to me. He told me the director wouldn't be available for 15 minutes and I would be in my appointment at that time, so tough luck. Well, turns out our appointment was primarily filling out paperwork in the front lobby and the director hid in her office and refused to come out and speak with us. The director then proceeded to call our phones DURING THE APPOINTMENT that the front office staff told us we couldn't talk to her because we would be in that appointment, and told us she isn't seeing patients. (Convenient how they came up with this explanation after I asked several times to speak to her.) He then refused to let my husband back to the appointment even though the doctor said she was okay with it!!!! He sat at the door STARING MY HUSBAND DOWN to make sure we didn't obey this 22 year old with a power trip's rules!!! Let's be crystal clear. My anger isn't about the policy. My anger isn't even about the fact that they didn't tell us the policy before my husband used PTO to attend the meeting. My anger is about this man gaslighting me about the messages I received and the director refusing to even speak to us, and then SUPPOSEDLY calling DURING the appointment that she knew we were in! (Which neither of our phones show evidence that she actually ever called! Screenshot of ALL my calls in my phone today attached below.) We have paid them over $1500 out of pocket in 2 days of appointments, and their director can't even be bothered to speak to us. My husband doesn't want me to leave this review because he's afraid they will hurt the help our son receives if I am not a sweet, complacent patient. I will be finding another provider if that is the case, but I trust after this review they will work on cleaning up their front office act and NOT send the same employee on a power trip to interact with a patient he has gaslighted. read more

Our son as ASD and was diagnosed a decade ago elsewhere. We are now going through the process with our youngest. This review is strictly to inform people that this is yet another practice that exploits a parent's love and desire to help their children. The Psychologists in office don't take insurance and the pediatricians don't have openings for evals for at least 6 months. I don't understand how they can claim that they're in the business of helping children and families considering how their business is run. We have paid out thousands and have not seen any difference in our son. They are too busy collecting funds to be focused on the children if you ask me. I know 2 other families who have had the same experience with them. You're likely stuck with them because this is how most of these offices run. read more

THE GOOD Our Doctor: Dr. Shefner is absolutely incredible. The negatives in this review have nothing to do with her or the medical care my son has received from her. She has truly changed my son's life, and mine as a parent. She helped our son with his ADHD, she appears to care deeply about is well-being, and she has the experience and empathy to help children. My son (8) looks forward to seeing her - he actually asks regularly when he gets to go see his concentration doctor again. Front office staff: The front office staff seems great. I've found them to be responsive and helpful. They hardly ever answer the phone, but call backs happen quickly. THE BAD The problem here is the billing office. I can't say enough about how awful they are. 1. They're insanely condescending and rude. Their consistent behavior is to discuss private billing matters in the lobby in front of other patients (they've done it to me, and I've overhead them doing it to others). When I told them the no-show they were charging me $75 was a mistake on their end the billing guy actually told me "we don't make mistakes". I was accused of missing an appointment I never scheduled AND never received a reminder text about. I showed them where I didn't receive the text on my phone. They demanded money before my son could see Dr. Shefner. I said I haven't even seen a bill for the no-show. They told me the bill was sent two weeks earlier, and I would have received it by now. That bill arrived 3 weeks AFTER I was standing in their office saying I hadn't received it. Because my son was excited to see Dr. Shefner and she manages his medications, I paid the no-show fee. If I didn't, he wouldn't get the medication refills he needs. It wasn't right but they know they have you by the proverbial balls. My favorite part of the interaction was when billing jerk told me that he doesn't believe I'm not getting their texts or their bills and their policy is their policy and "you shouldn't have signed the document if you didn't agree with it". 2. They will happily cancel appointments your child has with them at the last minute. So last minute in fact, you might get the call while you're IN THE CAR driving to their office. They claim this is acceptable because emergencies happen. Fine, everyone has emergencies. But do they offer families no grace in return? Nope. If you're a patient and you need to cancel an appointment for an emergency, that emergency better happy 48 BUSINESS hours in advance, otherwise you're out of luck and you'll be billed $75. I'd love a $75 credit every time they cancel our appointments. But nope, that's not going to happen. My bottom line is that this office offers themselves a WHOLE LOT of grace. They are very happy to do things that are convenient for them (answer the phone, cancel appointments, call you and see if you'll do your appointment early, etc.) all the while they hold patients to a wildly different standard. I so wish Dr. Shefner was in private practice so I didn't have to deal with the rude, condescending asshole on the Melmed billing team. 5 stars for Dr. Shefner. Our son lives with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Every child with this diagnosis is different. You meet one person with autism and you've met just one person with autism. Last Christmas, our son had zero words while his siblings shouted, "Merry Christmas!" to everyone in sight. At that time, I would explain our son was a sweet boy that didn't make eye contact and didn't speak, except for a few sounds. My fear exceeded my understanding at that time.  We started nutritional therapy and support services with Jan Katzen in the office before we even saw Dr. Melmed. Before we had an evaluation and diagnosis, Jan was the first person we worked with, thanks to a recommendation from the office administrator after I mentioned something related to nutrition (forever grateful her insight!). Jan shared delicious recipes, encouraged us as parents, and gave us tools to better support our child. Food planning matters. She developed a strategy and a workable plan for our whole family. The changes in our child are remarkable. We saw positive results THE SAME WEEK we implemented what Jan had suggested.  We now share social and emotional bonds with our child around the dinner table while we eat pizza that has kale hidden away in its sauce. We dance to music and sip nutritious smoothies packed with plenty of pumpkin seeds and spinach in them. We went from a preference for only apple sauce to nutrient packed meals strategically placing (and timing) proteins, fats, omegas, and carbohydrates. At the beginning it felt like work. Now, it's second nature. And we're all benefiting from it. Nutritional services with Jan should be required for every patient and their family. When we have a quick question or need guidance about meal planning, she's available and is easy to reach. Jan is a champion for children. Her expertise and gentle coaching has certainly helped transform our child's life. We are grateful to the Melmed Center and look forward to continuing early intervention and treatment here. We feel hopeful and grateful. Today, he is three years old. He's smart, brave, and kind. He wears cute bottle cap glasses and has short, straw-like hair. He's very good at dancing. He eats with our family at the kitchen table, at school, in restaurants, and in new environments. He is in a special education preschool class at our public school and his teacher is awesome. He likes school. Our son is a happy child.  Our pediatrician had recommended Dr. Melmed's office to us. The physicians at the Melmed Center  have given our family the support and professional help we expect and need. We are very appreciative of the care we receive at the Melmed Center. The recommendation from Dr. Melmed to enroll in the SARRC Parent Empowerment Jumpstart Program was life changing for us. Thank you, Dr. Melmed and the Melmed Center. read more

Dr. Sheffner at the Melmed Center is great, helped us with our child's issues and we've been seeing her for years now. The thing I absolutely hate about this place however is the customer service from every other department. It takes an act of Congress to get someone on the phone regardless of when you call. The front desk never answers. In fact i can't say I've ever had it ring as usually i'll press 2 for "speak to someone at the front desk" and it always goes straight to voicemail. The problem here, as some other folks have mentioned, is this is not a common practice and parents with kids who need help don't have a lot of places to turn to. Melmed is very far from us (doesn't affect my rating because that's not their issue) and to date is the only folks who treat a wide variety of mental/emotional conditions for younger kids. To that I say kudos because they do help kids. It's just their customer service is so appalling that it pains me to even go there. Front desk folks act like you're bothering them, prior authorizations take weeks to get, communication is non-existent, etc. Maybe they realize how much of a niche area this is and just don't care about the customer experience. I think if they were to get their act together, showed more compassion and value for consumers, they'd probably be able to branch out a whole lot more. Absolutely irritating but, if your child has problems, do what you got to do and take them in. read more

I normally do not participate on yelp however my husband has urged me in order to help other families as this is a more sensitive issue where a lot of money is potentially involved. I am not on here to trash talk any doctors. Dr. Melmed himself did our sons eval and was really awesome. He interacts with the children and is very down to earth about his approach for the best possible treatment plan. Our son had been diagnosed with mild autism at the age of 3 but he was about 9 when we first took him to Melmed to discuss our growing concerns with his anxiety and ADD. After seeing Melmed, we were passed to one of his partners for in between checkups. After discussing my concerns and there were quite a few she staring at me with a glazed look basically told me to carry on with the same treatment. This got my back up as she obviously was not listening to me and seemed to be on auto pilot. I spoke up and suddenly she changed her whole approach including changing the medication. This made me worried that she was just trying to appease me. I did not rebook with her and emailed Dr. Melmed about my concerns. He called me back in a timely manner. I now changed my in between doctor. She listened and gave good advice for my son's meds which have been a good fit for him. However, she was constantly trying to upsell me on other people that cost over $200 dollars at the practice out of pocket for various other things including handing me a sheet with book tittles on them that I could purchase there. This doesn't sound awful until when I brought up that we weren't able to see the ABA person there that she wanted me book in to see, and then the following appointment she said "oh forget about that, go see this other person now for this other issue." I am now doubting her advice the first go around. I will say that we are fortunate in that our insurance is accepted here and we don't have to pay out of pocket. What I want to gain from this yelp thing is to make families aware of the issues we have experienced but also if you are in the beginning stage of getting a diagnosis it is definitely worth that! When I look at what we would have to pay for a regular check up appointment without insurance $340, that I feel would not be worth it and it makes me sick to think there might be families paying that. If you do go to this place make sure you ask around for referrals to a specific person. We are all in this together yet we all have to deal with it separately. Best to you all:) read more

We have been going to Melmed for the last four years. We were very hopeful in the beginning but over the years became frustrated and disappointed. They are very hard to get in touch with and even harder to get an actual person on the phone. They do not accommodate hours for after school, so I was constantly having to pull my daughter from school to go to her appointments. I do understand that there will be times where you need to go during school, but it shouldn't be that way every single time. Especially when you make an appointment 3 months in advance. They do not spend one on one time with the child and get you in and out of their room within 10 minutes. I am also a teacher and have found a lot of families in my school that are disappointed with Melmed and now looking for a new practice. Melmed Center has turned into a factory that just pumps the kids in and out with no regard for how the child is truly doing. They have lost touch with truly caring for their patients and doing what is best for these children. Extremely disappointed. read more

I have two children who have been seen at Melmed Center. One has fairly straightforward ADHD issues and has done very well with Dr Bilog. She has been seeing my son for about 5 years. She has worked with us to use the least possible medication while helping my son be in control instead of the ADHD controlling him. She has monitored his height and weight carefully, since the medications can cause growth issues. My other son is much more complex. He has seen many of the providers here and has had quite a bit of testing done here. Overall, I have been pleased my most of the providers we have worked with. We also used the services of the advocate from Melmed and had her come to an IEP meeting when we were struggling with getting the school to provide services. Ms. Light was wonderful. She attended the meeting and had great suggestions. I felt that we got more from the school by having her there. But, she was not adversarial. The school also appreciated having her there and they were impressed by her knowledge and suggestions. Overall, she made the IEP meeting much better. This son now needs more in-depth specialists who can deal with medications that the doctors at Melmed are not comfortable prescribing. However, I would still bring him back for other services. read more

Melmed came very highly recommended to me. I have 3 co-workers that have taken their children there and all have nothing but great things to say. It took a few months to get an appointment with them and the paperwork is very lengthy to fill out, but they definitely know what they are doing. We have only had one appointment so far but I was definitely impressed. The doctor was very friendly and spent almost an hour and a half with my son, husband and I. When we left, we were given a diagnosis and a very clear "treatment" plan which included everything we needed to do before our next visit. They also sent a letter to our primary physician (and copied us) explaining to them exactly what they observed and what they are recommending in order to keep the doctor in the loop on everything. I feel 10 times better off after just one visit compared to where we were with my son before. I feel like we finally have the tools to deal with my son's behavior in the best way possible. They missed his autism and anxiety diagnosis and so we decided to seek treatment elsewhere. Jason in billing was a total jerk. Didn't even try to hear me out. Worst experience ever! Scheduled an appointment in January 2018, the first available is June 2018. Wait 6 months for an appointment, all while son is struggling in school, only to find out the wrong appointment type was booked. When I booked the appointment I told them my son's school recommended he have a full evaluation. I let them know that one of my son's teachers had her own son evaluated there and it was helpful and thought it would be helpful for my son. I explained he was struggling with memorization and focus. As I later found it, it was MY responsibility to know every type of appointment they offer to verify what I was scheduling. Fast forward to our appointment...They collected my $560 cash at the window right when I checked in for the appointment, before I even saw the DR or I knew that what I expected for the appointment wasn't was what we were getting. Finished the appointment and didn't want to raise my concerns in front of my son. Got in the car, asked my son about the "testing" he did out of the room from me, and realized, this wasn't at all what our appointment was supposed to be. Spoke to some family and a few friends who had prior experience with Melmed and realized 100% we did NOT get the evaluation my son needed and I paid $560 for a Psychiatrist to give him a script for Abilify?!?!?! What just happened here? I quickly became very sick to my stomach... Called the next day to discuss the matter and ask for a new CORRECT appointment and instead the DR calls me to blame me for the appointment being booked wrong. The office staff making these appointments is very uneducated on what are the right questions to ask a parent to determine what kind of appointment is needed. Without the proper information on their end they can't properly schedule. On the other hand, the office staff making appointments takes it upon themselves to determine what type of appointment your child she have and don't properly communicate to make sure this matches the parent/patients expectations. I spoke with Brenda who told me she would consult with the Executive Director, Michelle. That evening, neither the ED or Brenda called me back, instead the DR who saw us called me and basically did a song and dance to tell me it was my fault the appointment was booked incorrectly. She was unprofessional and condescending toward me and did everything she could do to justify what she did was right. She blamed me for not speaking up during the meeting even after explaining I did not feel comfortable doing so in front of my son. After waiting 6 months for this appointment, I am so angry and frustrated that I basically have to start over because Melmed does not want to admit they made a mistake and correct the problem. I am sad for my son, who is the real victim here in not getting the proper evaluation he really needs so that school is no longer a stressful struggle for him. Don't get me started with the office staff. Called me 5 times to confirm the appointment, but when you call them back to confirm, they never answer. They just keep calling you and threatening to cancel your appointment if you don't confirm. Kind of hard to confirm when you don't pick up your phones. I don't recommend this place at all! Seems based on other reviews, that I should have read prior to my appointment, others are experience similar problems. I will be pursing this in as many avenues as it takes on behalf of my son! My son was at the Melmed Center for over a year to deal with his ADHD. All they wanted to do was to write prescriptions. My son was on the highest dose of Vyvanse and was so out of it during the day. The Dr. (nurse practitioner) didn't seem to want to listen to me when I said it wasn't working, he just kept increasing the doses. After a LOT of money, we still have the same issue. The nurse kept adding prescriptions....for lack of sleep, anxiety....too much for an 11 year old. He's off of all meds now and we are not going back. Waste of money!! read more

Read the reviews. Doctors are just ok. Unfortunately, there are few other options. The hammer is the admin, which wins Olympic Gold in their arrogance and uncaring service, which boards on cruel. We've had several issues with the admin, but this time they had us sign a "One Time Courtesy Agreement" because they incorrectly thought we missed an appointment in June, which in fact we actually cancelled and rescheduled back in March. This issue seems common at Melmed and appears several times in other reviews. I called about this, gave patient info several times to several folks, and then got Annette. I answered the same questions all over, and made a note of this. She hung up on me. I called back, asked for Michelle (CEO assistant) to call me back....still no call. They cannot even get the scheduling correct. We had to explain several times to some of the clerks that 60 is not the same as 90 for the next appointment. Despite all of this, the admin issues are secondary because they cannot be in place without some sort of direct or indirect green light from Dr Melmed himself. So ultimately the buck stops with him. It's his company, and if his crew can't manage the business well, it's really a reflection on him. There's a lot more, but to keep it short, I would simply suggest you look for other options. read more

I love Dr. Chris but the office is horrible! They add extra charges and then won't let you be seen until you pay in full. You don't get to contact the insurance company...you have to pay the $500 right there on the spot or no visit and get sent to collections if you don't comply. Love Dr. Melmed! I always look forward to his visits with my boys. I have to sadly agree with some of the reviews about his staff. Seems like it's hit and miss on how friendly they are. Sometimes you are greeted with warm smiles and friendly faces. You feel welcomed and respected. Other times it's quite the opposite... No eye contact when checking in... Not even a glance! It is very unfortunate that these individuals can't take a moment to look up and share a smile. I know you might be thinking, "cut them some slack, maybe they just had a bad day, not all people are the happy, smiley type." This may be true, but it's repetitive and, in my opinion, first impressions matter. These small things can make a huge difference. I also have to add that trying to call and schedule an appointment is a nightmare! I very RARELY have had someone actually pick up the line when I call the office. Most often I am prompted to leave a voicemail with my information and have to wait for a call back... which may take awhile. But, these things aside, Dr. Melmed and most of his staff I have interacted with are AWESOME! Wish I could give them five stars but those few individuals of the staff and phone lines can't justify it for me. I hope improvements in these areas will be made to help this office reach their "five star" potential. read more

We had an appointment scheduled for the past two months for 1030 this morning with an NP named Leight for our son with a primary diagnosis of autism. He was originally diagnosed at Melmed at age 5. The appt was scheduled for 90 minutes in length as was an evaluation. My husband and I took the morning off to attend. I was called 45 minutes before the appointment started to let me know that they could not accommodate us as my son has a secondary diagnosis as many individuals on the spectrum do. If giving 0 stars was an option I would certainly select that. read more

I went to Melmed with one of mine twin. He got diagnosed with Developemtal Speech Delay and one of doc said- he is on the risk of autism. I got list to do before the next appt. My husband and I were crying all night. I have been talking to several professional people, who assured me that my kid is not autistic. I went to got retested somewhere else. New doc said- Melmed is over diagnosing kids to get back the business. read more

My wife and I waited 2+ months to get her in to see a Doctor here. We received countless voicemails a week beforehand requesting we confirm the appointment. For days we left messages w/out response (we never got a real voice on the phone) and yet continued to receive voicemails telling us we needed to confirm her appointment. We eventually had to call our primary Doctor and have them get in contact to verify the appointment. Less than 24 hours before the appointment we received a new message stating a fee of nearly $550 due at the appointment. This is something we can not afford (neither can most people) and yet they waited until 3pm the day before the appoint to mention this fee. We had to CANCEL. 2+ Months of waiting patiently and they couldn't be bothered to share their fee until less than 24 hours in advance? Ridiculous. We won't even have a chance to rate their service now other than 1 star for pathetically handled customer service. This is a service that deals w/helping humans and their sanity yet they can't be bothered to answer a phone or treat you w/such common courtesy as providing more than 15 hours before the appointment to provide payment expectations. read more

Drs might be en pointe with the exception of a few but their front office staff is eye candy for a night club with no customer service de-escalation skills and rude. I talked to one front office person who did not know the last name of her manager! How do you know the first name and not your managers last name at a professional medical office!? Again...night club! I have waited for three days to get someone to call me back. I left three messages. Walgreens pharmacy called them twice and they had not responded to them as we wait for a medication to be approved that I had already told the doc that it probably would not because it was brand new on the market that a pharmaceutical rep was probably pimping! $735 was the med cost. No bueno. I just needed an alternative so I called on new patient line since existing patients had gone to voicemail the last few days and I got club-disney-man-Child on the line. Enough already Dr Melmed! If you don't have high expectations for the face of your office how do you expect to continue to run a legitbusiness? We have spent thousands of dollars there and we expect excellent and professional customer service. Your front office manager was very apologetic after talking to her but it appears that she has no support or say so in the children that you have working at your front desk. So not okay. We are transferring records out as I can't deal with it anymore and going to Dr Ziegler and Dr Gatt. Do better! read more

After going to the Melmed Center for 15 years tonight I was treated badly. Dr. Ruggerio left the practice in Feb. 2015. I think I understand now why he left. My hope that he would come back was the reason I stayed. Tonight the office person basically acted like I was stupid. I always put my appointments in my phone when I am in the office or call for an appointment so that I will not forget. It is a $75 cancellation fee if you don't give 48 hours notice. As I speak with other people it has become the place to take your kid if you want the Autism diagnosis. Not something that I would wish on any family. I have two children who are truly autistic and have worked nonstop very hard with them. They are now adults and this makes it very hard that they have this diagnosis and finding a job that they can work is even harder because they are perfectionist. We were a cash paying patient for many years and finally our insurance started covering them when you go to an appointment and each kids appointment is $240 cash it makes it hard because they were seen every 3 months for years. The original appointments were $495 each which they were seen a month apart. No we don't have that kind of money but the Melmed Center was highly recommend in 2001. read more

Dr. Hanania is great. I would give him 5 stars, but the scheduling and communication people need to make SERIOUS improvements. I had someone take the liberty of rescheduling our appointment to a date and time that we would be out of town without notifying our family. I only found out because I asked to confirm my sons next appointment when leaving the office to avoid the annoyance of getting the angry Robo caller voicemail. That's another problem. They call you the evening before your appointment and the robo message tells you this is your FINAL warning, if you don't call by 8 am your appointment will be cancelled and we will bill you in full. Which, I could understand if there had been ANY previous attempt to contact us, but no, this was the only contact made. The office told me they hire an outside company to make the calls. Maybe MeLmed should look into this as im pretty sure this is a bad business practice. Great doctors and professionals here, just bad scheduling and front office workers. I read the other reviews and found I'm not the only one that was rescheduled without notification. Geez, melmed, how do you expect your patients to know when they have an appointment?!?!? I have four boys ( 3 have been seen here), my 7 years old is the youngest and last to be a patient here. I only rated 3 stars because they do not take state plans and I had very bad experience(s) with the front office staff and their supervisor. Despite my concerns, the 3 stars are specifically attributed to Dr. PeBenito. She is thoughtful, caring and thorough. The time it takes to get in is well worth the wait. Dr. PeBenito prepared me for the battle that I was going to have with the public school system. I always get answers to my questions and concerns. Sadly, I am looking at other providers because of the staff. read more
