We are not from this area and stumbled across Melo accidentally....but what an absolute treat! The focaccia bread was amazing, as was all our food!! I would highly recommend this restaurant and am sorry we won't be in town longer so we can try additional entrees. Our server was also very knowledgeable and made excellent suggestions.

I was surprised to see that I have never written a review for this place before, bc it is my go to spot when I'm in the mood for Italian food. Sadly, customer service was not the best at my most recent visit-I ordered a glass of wine that never came, but the bread, cesar salad and lasagna were all on point! Since I didn't get the wine, I treated myself to crime brûlée which was really good!

Great food. Kind of a funny atmosphere but we really liked it. Ok so we have been here many times and the food is fantastic. The chef is fantastic. The wall pictures are funny. Actually a lot of things were funny but I will come back to that. The food is great. I have not have a bad experience here. I got the veal scaloppini and would get it again. Other things we got included the lasagna - but it is not on the menu - you have to ask for it. (There is your tip !) The atmosphere is authentic and hey - maybe a little dated but it only adds to the atmosphere. Everyone is usually age 40+ but I would say it was kid friendly - we just rarely see kids. Most people are older and having a glass of red wine with a next level Italian dish. Lots of little things are funny from the photographs on the wall to the disclaimer in the menu (see picture) to there being a formula for ethanol where the liquor is. We really like this place and I would recommend it.

The restaurant is very small and the seating is quite tight. The food was alright but the service was awful. We won't be going back.

With our meal, we also ordered a large Pan de Tomate, which included fresh tomatoes on freshly baked focaccia. We devoured every last piece! It was especially good to dip in the saucy broth the shrimp left behind. Our server, Aidan, was very attentive and was helpful when making selections. On first impression, it feels like the kind of place that should deliver big on ambiance and flavor. The service was friendly and attentive, and the team clearly wants diners to enjoy the experience. Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to the setting. Let's start with the overall vibe of the menu. While it markets itself as a Spanish-style tapas restaurant, the dishes felt more like Americanized small plates than true Spanish tapas. What was most noticeable across the board was the lack of seasoning and depth. These dishes were fine, but none of them left a lasting impression. We began with the Croquettas de Jamon, which were more creamy-fried than filled with ham. They were crispy on the outside and soft inside, but without that satisfying salty bite of jamón you expect. Nothing about them felt particularly special. Next up were the Albondigas in Savory Tomato Sauce. These meatballs were tender and cooked well, but the tomato sauce didn't bring much flavor. Again, it was just fine. It didn't offend, but it didn't excite either. We also tried the Calamares Fritos, which were fried properly with a light, crunchy coating. But it's tough to mess up fried calamari. There was nothing memorable about the seasoning or presentation. It lacked the boldness or creative twist that could have made it stand out. The highlight of the meal was the Empanadas de Carne. These were genuinely good. The puff pastry was buttery and crisp, and the filling had actual flavor, steak, potato, and shallots came together in a hearty, satisfying bite. This was the one dish that felt like it had been prepared with intention. Overall, Taberna Tapas has a great look and an inviting atmosphere, but the food feels like it's playing it too safe. Tapas, when done right, should be bold, flavorful, and transportive. Instead, we left feeling underwhelmed and wishing for more seasoning and personality on the plate. With such a charming space and a great location, it has all the ingredients to be great , it just needs a bit more soul in the kitchen.

I def recommend this for a breakfast forward savory dish- it's served with two over easy eggs. Finally we polished it off with the bread pudding with homemade ice cream and churros. The Braai chicken was not my favorite, but only because I didn't care too much for the peanut sauce it was served in. The chicken was tender and had a great char flavor, but it wasn't seasoned well since it was seasoned with powdered ginger which doesn't really pack enough of a punch flavor wise. However, the braised goat was the star! The goat was delicious and tender and the jollof rice was different than I'm used to but good. The sauce though! The sauce the goat was served in was phenomenal. I'd love to bottle that and have it on every meal. I also took the Braai chicken and rolled it around in the sauce, which improved it exponentially. I'd return for that braised goat!

My friend had the rotisserie chicken with two sides, kale and slaw, and it was just as impressive. Crispy skin, juicy inside, and really clean flavors. Simple food done right and GF friendly. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared. Prices land right where you would expect for the quality, roughly 16 to 21 dollars depending on what you order, and it feels worth it.
