My wife and I bought a house last year, and the sellers used this company to paint the house before sale. The paint job looked good, until we moved in and I started looking closer. Overall it's a decent job, but there's a number of issues: - They painted over tape in several rooms and doors. I can't remove the tape since the old paint colour is underneath. - They got paint on the washing machine, dryer, thermostat, toilet handle, floor, and a few more places. - There are paint drips in several locations. - They did not provide any extra touch-up paint. I've attached a few photos as examples. I'm also not certain about the quality of the paint. It gets dirty really easy, and it seems like a very thin coat of basic matte paint, so I'm worried that trying to clean stains will tarnish the finish. Overall, it looks decent, but attention to detail really leaves a lot to be desired. If we had known about the quality of the paint job, we would have had our own painter repaint before we moved in. We probably would have actually preferred to have just gotten the house with the old paint job, because then we would have at least known we'd need to repaint. read more

Didn't finish the job, then had the nerve to try to bill me double to finish it. Very unethical behavior. The whole outfit is just subcontracted out and the business owner has no control over his crew. Crew did a professional job but the business is dysfunctional. The thing is, we communicated this very clearly. We had a flooring person and Melody painting. We told both "which order should we do this, floors first or painting first. They both told us it didnt matter which contractor worked first". I think the big problem here is that all the good reviews involve David, the son of Charlie,. I sincerely believe based on these reviews that David is an honest guy and cares about customers. But we didnt see or get to talk to or work with David. I think he isn't with the company anymore. So I thnk after David left the company, the company basically fell apart. Now their work is bad because Charlie can't control his subcontractors. When Charlie arrived at the work site, the subcontractors were complaining about the job and the amount of work. It became obvious to me that Charlie had sold them on an easy job and had shorted them money, because the workers were complaining to him. Charlie pretended to them that he was surprised and that I was the one generating all the new requests. So when the subcontractors left the gap you see below, Charlie was not able to get them to come back to the site to finish the job. So he tried to charge me again. Anyhow we've been living with an unfinished paint job now since we didnt budget for paying twice to paint the same walls. read more

I couldn't believe how hard and time-consuming it was, yet I couldn't get the outcome I planned, so my husband and I decided to call around and get a professional to finish it. Called around to see if I can get a quote for painting the interior of my house and was able to find Melody painting. David was super helpful in understanding what paint to use as there's way too many shades to select from and brands of paint to choose. David not only helped understand the process of working with general contractors, but also helped us outline that painting is the last on the list and that baseboards for flooring is covered by the flooring people. I'm not a professional but I have a bit of painting experience. Most every year of my childhood involved painting at least one of my relatives houses. I picked up jobs with painters while in college. Since then I've painted 2 of our homes inside and out more than once. Melody Painting assured me they would prep well. This didn't happen and a paint job I was hoping to last for years has turned out to be an unprepped whitewash. I had to spend 5 solid days of my own time trying to undo the damage. Regrettably, I'll have to wait till the paint fails where they didn't prepare the surface to fix the bulk of the damage. Half of the body of the house I had already prepped and painted less than 5 years ago. The other half still needed prepping. I know how long it takes to prep a house. Several hours into the job I came out expecting to see them at work sanding patching and preparing the chalky, alligatored surfaces, filling cracks in the stucco and preparing to prime all surfaces. To my surprise they were nearly done with the "second coat" on the house and the trim had been spot primed with apparently no prep work. They had used about 8 gallons of the 20-25 gallons of the high quality SW elastomeric paint I had bought (and they had estimated) for the job. I had hoped to get a full 18mils coat. Their "second" coat was still so thin I could still see the fine alligator cracking. The only way this could count as 2 coats is if you count the back-rolling of the sprayed paint as a second coat. I could see primer through in spots. They had hidden the cracking with a heavily textured sealant and hastily applied it over some of the damaged paint without any other prep. This looked odd because the original light texture on the 80 yr old house has mostly disappeared after multiple layers of paint have smoothed it out. Now in the middle of a nearly smooth wall there are these areas of "canned texture" that stand out like somebody mixed gravel in the paint for 2 strokes. Two more strokes of gravel-laden paint were applied 4 feet away across the smooth wall. This looks awful. It is really very sloppy. I complained about the thickness of the paint so they put another coat on the house using about another 5 gallons. It was still nowhere near the 18 mils I wanted. Charlie said "It's just a house I'm not Picasso" but he agreed to do one more coat while his other guys were painting the trim. The trim was the worst part. It was obvious (see pictures) that there had been no prep work as laid out in the quote. Peeling, cracking paint, minimal priming, no surface prep, no sanding, scraping, no steel brush, no electric tools, no holes filled. The prep time accounted for about 1/20th of the job. Meanwhile, the shed still had areas between the siding that had no paint because the guy spraying didn't climb down to move the latter so his paint gun wasn't blowing paint across the wall at a 45 degree angle. The edges of the siding didn't get any paint. This was another area I had to do by hand. While I'm no professional, neither are they. The "clean-up" however, takes the cake. The equipment was cleaned and all the toxic debris was poured at the base of my tangerine tree in an organic garden. The toxins have probably worked their way into all of the 10 fruit trees in the garden. Thanks for that, really nice guys. When they were done I told them to leave the taping/paper up as I would roll on another coat myself. I've spent five days repairing what they did and there's still a lot to redo. read more

We needed to paint the exterior of our 2-story house and were referred to Charlie by our realtor. She always refers Charlie to her clients and has used him for her own home. A few of our friends have also used him in the past and were always happy with the results. We really liked meeting Charlie and his son David and they are very experienced and professional. They made us feel at ease and we knew immediately that they would be great to work with. I thought that their bid might be higher compared to the other bids we were getting, but their bid ended up being very competitive. While the powerwashers were a little messy, our experience with Melody was otherwise excellent. Charlie has assembled a great team and many of them have worked for him many years. They are very competent and know what they are doing. The team was also very accommodating to our needs and were easy to work with. David communicated with us regularly and made sure that we were happy with the work. He made some great suggestions that we used and were glad that we did. If we had any concerns (primarily rain related), he addressed them immediately. David pointed out a couple of concrete roof tiles that were accidentally broken and assured us that they would replace them. They even painted the new tiles to match the existing, weathered tiles. We were very happy with the work and the house looks great. A neighbor really liked the results and plans on using Melody to paint his home. After the work was completed to our satisfaction, David made sure that we knew that if we noticed anything more that needed to be addressed, they would come and take care of it. Not all contractors volunteer that and I can see why our realtor continues to use Melody. I would not hesitate to recommend them. read more

I had used Melody Painting several years ago and was happy to see they were still around when I needed my bedroom ceilings retextured (I had the old popcorn acoustic material removed by an abatement company). Melody did a great job of retexturing the ceilings and repainting the rooms and doors in the area. There were some small repairs that also needed to be done and they took care of those as well. Melody was able to start the project almost immediately, the painters showed up right on time every day, and Charlie would come by soon after to make sure the job was being done properly and address any concerns I had. He also made some color suggestions for the paint so the ceilings were a lighter shade of white than the walls. It really made the rooms pop when it was done. Charlie was unfortunately referred to us by our realtor. He painted the newly remodeled kitchen cabinets, all the walls and baseboards. At the time it seemed like a fantastic job as his team was very quick in completing the work despite of some color changes last minute. However, after 8-10 months, the paint started peeling from the kitchen cabinets. Anytime you brushed against the walls, something paint would chip or get stained. Excellent service! Had exterior painted late July 2018. Melody was highly recommended by a neighbor. Charlie and David both very responsive when contacted via phone or email. Charlie was very detailed when coming to gather info for the quote. If there are specifics you want addressed (like extra sanding prep or something,) be sure to bring them up. We had them fix a sub par stucco job when we had protruding wood beams removed from our wall as part of a landscaping job. Quote was not the lowest, but was very reasonable, and work could be scheduled without too much of a wait. (They have several crews.) Crew did power wash and removed screws and patched any holes prior to starting the painting job. Even after job was completed, they were very responsive.
