Melo's is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the area, and the food never disappoints. We were seated promptly when we arrived. I ordered the fried spaghetti as an appetizer, a chicken Caesar salad, the Chicken Marsala for my entrée, and an espresso martini. Everything was absolutely delicious. Our server, Brittany, was friendly, personable, and took responsibility when there was a delay in service. I asked for a bowl of water for my dog as soon as we were seated, but it took about 20 minutes before it was brought to the table and our order was taken. She sincerely apologized, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, I've experienced similar delays with other servers during previous visits. I also noticed the bartender place coffee beans into an espresso martini using her bare hands. Although I didn't say anything at the time, it made me uncomfortable from a hygiene standpoint. When I ordered another drink, Brittany used a utensil to place the coffee beans into the drink, which I felt was much more appropriate. Overall, the food was outstanding, as always, and that's what keeps me coming back. I went to Melo's on a Wednesday night and it was PACKED. We didn't have reservations, so we had to sit outside. It was a cold evening, but they had heat lamps, and it was comfortable. The service was otherwise good. The ambiance is a bit modern for my taste at an Italian restaurant, but I respect their creative choice when it comes to the vibe they want to have. The menu matched in style, with a "hip" approach. For example, pizzas being categorized in round and square categories, as well as "red" or "white". We got the arancini appetizer, and they were top quality. It was a seasonal item; hopefully they can bring it back. I ordered linguini with seafood for my main dish. It was described as being made with white wine and tomatoes, so I was expecting a clear pasta (maybe olive oil and white wine) with some tomatoes mixed in. It was actually a red sauce, so I was a little bit disappointed. Also, it only had one piece of calamari. The linguini wasn't soft, but I would've appreciated it being a little bit more al dente. My wife ordered chicken Parmesan with rigatoni. The pasta was perfectly al dente with a very tasty vodka sauce. I did like the Italian items for sale in the entryway (olive oil, panettoni, candies, etc.), but otherwise the restaurant felt very "California". Still, I would gladly eat this again. We got the Chicken Parm (5/10) with a side of Rigatoni Vodka (7.5/10), and it was solid. The rigatoni was perfectly al dente and flavorful. However, I do wish it was more saucy. The Chicken Parm itself was underwhelming: the chicken was dry, the breading was soft, and the cheese didn't add much. Next time, I'd skip the chicken and just get the Rigatoni.
