There are so many good Italian restaurants in Walnut Creek, but what sets DZ apart is their pizzas. Their Neapolitan pizzas have this pillowy crust with a thin center that just melts in your mouth. We (party of 9) came here to celebrate my birthday, and it was the perfect meal. We ordered family style so that we could try a little of everything. The pizzas are about 12" cut into quarters. The pasta dishes were medium size. Their appetizers were quite decent sized and good for sharing. Small Plates: + Fried Calamari and Shrimp - lightly battered, crispy, and well seasoned. + Truffle Fries - crispy and good. Not very truffle forward + Cauliflower - lightly battered and great flavor. My favorite of the small plates. Pizzas: + Doppio Zero - Burrata cheese and Prosciutto in a white sauce. I love the individual ingredients but together it was too salty. + Carciofina - Basil pesto, artichokes, mozzarella, Calabrian chilies. This one had a nice kick. + Margherita with Italian salami added for $3 more - very delicious - our favorite of the pizzas. Pastas: + Fettuccine Oxtail - oxtail was finely shredded and pasta was very good + Rigatoni Pork Belly - pork was shredded and pasta was in a yummy tomato sauce + Short Rib Raviolis (this was a daily special) - wonderfully seasoned with lots of cheese. Our favorite of the pastas. Desserts: + Tiramisu - this was our complementary birthday treat. Great coffee flavor + Panna Cotta - texture was kinda firm, topped with lots of berry sauce. + Limoncello cake - lemony light cake topped with lots of berry sauce. Our favorite of the desserts. The entire meal was wonderful. Besides their delicious pizzas, the staff was very attentive, the kids meals were just as good as the rest of the menu, and the vibe was refined but not stuffy. I've been to Italy, multiple parts, at least twice. This place does a very good job at representing the authenticity of the Little that I know of Italian cuisine. It's a beautiful space. Delicious food. Our server - Valentina was amazing. Management - recognize her please. We came on a very busy Saturday afternoon/evening. Service was slow. It did appear as if they were not enough staff to keep up with the number of patrons. Wine came out mid meal. Food was not hot. Orders were in disarray or incorrect. Despite this, our waitress - Valentina, managed multiple tables very well. She did it all with a smile and courtesy. There was a particular table of loud, disruptive, young women - and she worked with them very well. However - word to MANAGEMENT, why didn't you handle this table? Or at least address the patrons? Is it because it's Walnut Creek and people may be entitled? This is YOUR establishment, and it affects the experience of other customers. It ruined our dining experience. Our group actually wanted to stay for coffee and dessert and keep chatting. We did not - because the table was just too loud and disruptive. We could barely hear ourselves speak. I looked around, and at least two or three other tables noticed the disruption. People were struggling to hear themselves. That's ridiculous! So for that reason, I knocked the star off and perhaps should knock another one off. Do I need to return? No. Why? Dining out is an experience. The pizza here is delicious--crust is pillowy soft and chewy but also with a slight amount of crisp. Definitely do pizza! Got the fig and prosciutto white pizza and it was great. Also had the oxtail fettuccini which was pretty good, the nectarine salad, and octopus appetizer. All was tasty. Only off putting thing is that the server didn't stagger the delivery of our dishes. All 4 dishes arrived at once--our two appetizers and 2 entrees. We were sharing family style so it was unfortunate that we couldn't slowly enjoy the apps otherwise the entrees would get cold. I first had Doppio Zero through work a few years ago via DoorDash at the Veranda location in Concord. We were making plans for dinner on Saturday 7/18/26 and Doppio Zero was one of the restaurants my friend suggested. I remembered DZ was good and was happy when my friend said the Walnut Creek location just opened. So glad we didn't have to deal with the nightmare parking at the Veranda! My friend made a 5pm reservation for 4 but our party dropped to 3. They didn't give us a hard time about having fewer people and were able to seat us right when we arrived, a little before 5 pm. There were plenty of open tables and we opted to sit in the middle of the restaurant where it was cooler. We were pleasantly surprised the restaurant wasn't super busy, given the proximity to downtown and our going on a Saturday night. We ordered the octopus, beets, and 2 pasta dishes (pork belly and ragú). I remembered how good the octopus was but wasn't sure if it would be enough for a meal. Our waitress, Sophia, recommended pairing it with the beets. The octopus was as tasty as I remembered and came with arugula, tomatoes, and chickpeas. Loved the various colors of the beets as well as the balsamic glaze (yes, I'm one of those weirdos who likes balsamic/vinegary flavor). I tried both my friends' pastas and I could tell that the pasta was homemade. My friends got the porn star and a pink one that I'm forgetting the name. I tried a sip of both and the porn star was the best. I'd order that if I'm not driving! My portion of the bill for 2 apps was $35, which seems reasonable given one of those was octopus. Since parking near DZ is mostly metered, I'd recommend parking on Carmel drive. the 2 hour limit doesn't apply to weekends or holiday. Would definitely return to try more dishes, particularly the zuppa di pesce (when the temps are cooler), nectarine salad, pastas, and pizzas. read more

Solid happy hour, perfect sized mini pizzas if you're looking for a quick bite and a beverage. Toppings are more like three star worthy honestly, but the dough and resulting crust are unequivocally worth an extra star. Blistered on the edges but still maintains a fantastic toothsome nature. Ambiance is comfortable, wish they opened the blinds a little earlier than they do (and I get it, that location from a sun perspective gets a lot and it can get very toasty) but here's hoping when the heat dies down a touch they'll roll up a little earlier. The vibe, the service, the food, the bathrooms. All top notch. We sat at the bar for a few minutes waiting for our friends. The bartenders were super friendly and the drinks were quite refreshing. We started off with some appetizers. The Prosciutto and Burrata appetizer as well as the Fried Calamari and Shrimp were fantastic. I had the oxtail fettuccine and my wife had the branzino. The oxtail fettuccine was very good. Tangy flavor and pasta cooked just right. My wife said she enjoyed the branzino, especially the couscous the fish sat on top of. We shared the Carne Mía pizza which was also very good. I loved the flavor of the pizza, but I prefer my crust a bit more solid. I essentially rolled my pizza to eat it. Excellent pizza in a beautiful restaurant with friendly service! It has a classy, upscale vibe but the food is reasonably priced. Making a reservation here was easy. Came here for a late lunch at 3:45 on a Sunday. There was plenty of seating available. To start, we got the Fried Calamari and Shrimp (4.5/5), which was satisfying and crispy. I was craving pizza, and got the Salsiccia (5/5), which had sausage, bell peppers, olives, and red onions. The dough/crust was very good. It was filling, and I took home a large slice as leftovers. Just discovered the new Doppio Zero location in Walnut Creek, and it was the best . The food was excellent--especially the white and red veggie pizzas we ordered. Easily one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. The crust was thin, perfectly baked, and light enough that it felt like a guilt-free indulgence. We also tried the arugula salad topped with pumpkin seeds and blue goat cheese, which was fresh, well-balanced, and paired perfectly with the pizza. Checked out the new Doppio Zero in WC today. Overall the service was good, we were seated right away and had a choice of tables. (We sat at a the front portion of the restaurant which had open doors to the outside of the restaurant). Overall, the service was good. It took a little while for us to get our waters in the beginning but once we got an experienced server, things were smooth afterwards. This is a new restaurant so they are training a bunch of new servers so it might take a little bit for them to get the hang of things. The ambience was chill and relaxing. The owner was walking around as well and checking in with tables. The food was amazing. Everything from the appetizers to the main course to the dessert was really delicious. The beet salad was phenomenal. The pizzas were really good, a little soggy towards the middle of it, but the crust was amazing. The desserts were amazing, especially the vanilla bean gelato. The tuna tartar was fresh and I loved the homemade chips it's served with (wish there were a few more!) had to order to Doppio Zero pizza again. Perfect crust- crispy and topped with arugula, shaved parm, prosciutto, and the best burrata of my life! We also tried the seasonal pear pizza- topped with pears, bacon, and goat cheese. We went here on a recent late Bday celebration. It was a slightly warm evening, but not busy for a dinner for 3. My friend had made a reservation and we were sat right next to the window with a breeze. We had started with the Burrata cheese and tomatoes and olives as an appetizer. This place is great! We met some friends here because we had heard it was good and decided to try it for lunch. We all had different food. I had the mushroom spinach ravioli, which was absolutely excellent. My wife had the vegetarian ravioli, which she also said was very good. Our friends had two other dishes which they enjoyed, and we shared an appetizer. There was plenty of the appetizer for all four of us. Not only was the food good, but the service was excellent. Our server was attentive and made sure that everything was right. Midway through the meal, the manager, or owner, came over to make sure everything was good. Yikes. I really wanted to like this place, especially knowing they've only been open for about two months, but the entire operation feels like it opened before the staff and systems were ready. We had a 5:30 PM reservation. Our appetizer came out on time, but our drinks didn't arrive until around 6:00. When they finally did, the waitress accidentally spilled a Diet Coke on two people at our table, leaving one person's back completely drenched. Accidents happen, but what was surprising was that it then took another 20 minutes just to get a replacement drink. Things continued to unravel from there. The table was only half-cleared when the entrées arrived, and one person's order had apparently been forgotten altogether. Five people were sitting with their meals while the sixth person waited for theirs. The food itself was also disappointing, particularly because several dishes were extremely over-salted. What stood out most was the lack of experienced management on the floor. The GM appeared to be tied up behind the bar making drinks while the dining room clearly needed leadership and coordination. The staff seemed overwhelmed and undertrained, and there didn't appear to be anyone actively managing the service breakdowns. A new restaurant deserves some grace while working through opening issues, but this went well beyond normal growing pains. There are some serious operational and training issues that need to be addressed. Hopefully management gets things under control because the restaurant may have potential, but based on this experience, it simply isn't ready yet and with competition in the area, they're going to lose on repeat customers. read more

I rarely write negative reviews, but the callous treatment my family received at Doppio Zero in Walnut Creek left us deeply upset. My mother uses a standard-size wheelchair. Before arriving on a Saturday at 5:30 PM, I called ahead specifically to ask if they could accommodate a wheelchair without a reservation. The host assured me walk-ins were welcome early in the evening and that their seating setup and aisles were fully accessible. When we arrived, the restaurant was 90% empty with no lines outside. Yet, the older gentleman ( seeming to be a manager) hosting refused to seat us in either of the two main dining areas mostly empty. Instead, he insisted on placing us in a highly isolated area right by the front entrance with the doors wide open to the outside. When my mother mentioned she would be too cold so close to the drafty door & isolated from the main area, we asked if we could sit in the main dining room, the host snapped. He coldly told us "no," claimed everything else was reserved, and walked away from us entirely. His complete lack of sympathy and rigid refusal to accommodate a simple comfort request felt like clear prejudice. It seemed he simply did not want a wheelchair visible in the main dining areas, despite the fact that the aisles were completely wide enough to accommodate her. We are regulars at many popular local restaurants like Torsap, Elia, Melo's, and Massimo, where the staff always treats my mother with the utmost grace, kindness, and respect. Doppio Zero showed none of those qualities. We walked out and will not be returning. They need to seriously train their management and staff on basic empathy and accessibility awareness. read more

Had dinner tonight at Doppio Zero and overall our experience was just ok. I've eaten at the location in San Carlos and tonight's experience was totally different. Food was good overall and had the right flavors, shared the cauliflower and the artichokes which were the highlights. We also had two pizzas, both seemed like they needed 30 or so seconds longer in the oven. (No char or crispiness on the bottom) Where things were totally off was the bartenders. It was a male and female and it was like neither of them knew what they were doing. We sat 8 ft from the bar and could see what they were doing or not doing, they constantly talked and goofed around with each other more than they were making/serving drinks. The restaurant was less than half full and drinks took a LONG time to be made and served. We were done with our appetizers before our drinks came to the table. Dinner companion ordered the DZ old fashioned and the first one didn't come with the indicated foam. The second one didn't come with the orange. Our second round of drinks came after we were done with our meals - I ordered the Lambrusco prior ordering my dinner and requested to have it with my pizza/dinner and it cane when we were finished eating. No management was ever seen walking around asking how anyone or anything was or even monitoring the staff and I was surprised that this wasn't happening. I asked where the manager was and she was sitting at the front table the entire time talking. Great pizza is one of my favorite things and this wasn't it. I wouldn't go back. read more

Went here for dinner with girlfriends and the food itself was fantastic, every dish we ordered was great. Unfortunately the experience around the food kept pulling us out of it. Service was slow, especially at the bar. Drinks took forever to arrive, and once we had them, our waiter never came back to check if we wanted more. Our water glasses were empty before the appetizers even hit the table, and they only got refilled after I flagged someone down. Also, $8 for a bottle of sparkling water felt pretty steep. The ambiance. The front of the restaurant has that cozy, romantic vibe, incredible decor and detail put into he bar, tiling, furniture, wood accenrs, same energy as Prima and SanDai, but the back dining area is SO sterile, blinded by white lighting. It felt more like a hospital waiting room than a dinner spot. Combined with how loud and echo-y it was back there, we genuinely couldn't hear each other across the table. I'd come back for the food, but I'd request to sit up front, and I hope they work on the pacing of drink service and checking in on refills. read more
