Justin and Desmond, two of the bartenders were the only ones being attentive. No one else was super friendly or inviting, it was a bit strange. The cocktails were the best part I would be back just for a drink. We only tried the meatballs and fried calamari so I can't write them off for food. The calamari tasted like it was cooked in funnel cake batter, and was too chewy. Not for me. The meatballs were good, can't complain. I'm a regular here and keep coming back for good reason. The food is consistently excellent. The butter cake is a standout. It's not overly sweet, comes with ice cream, and has the perfect consistency. It just melts in your mouth. The pesto chicken garlic knots are another favorite. They're marked as an appetizer, but honestly they could be a meal on their own. The chicken is really juicy, and the pesto sauce puts a unique spin on it. The prosciutto elevates the whole dish. The Italian grinder is amazing. I've ordered it more than once. Fair warning: it's a bit higher in calories, but it's very filling. You only need half a sandwich. The braised lasagna is very flavorful and hearty. If you're a lasagna person, you'd love it. Last but not least the shrimp scampi. I get this every time. One order gets me full. It's something that can be shareable, but if you love shrimp you'll want it all to yourself. The ambiance is amazing and all the staff are friendly and accommodating. You can't go wrong here. Was craving Italian food and wanted to try the local North Italia that opened up in The Nut. We've been to the location in Scottsdale and really enjoyed the food, but coming here was super disappointing. So we called for a reservation, and was offered one in 30 mins or 2 hours. Opted for the sooner, they asked for our number and confirmed our info, I'm assuming they pulled the info from Open Table. But once we arrived, had no record of us calling. Told that "we don't know what happened, but we just changed shifted and might have gotten lost in the shuffle." So ended up just having to get out on the waitlist. While waiting, from what I could overhear, they were having a lot of logistical problems. Once seated, ended up ordering calamari app, crushed meatball ragu, seared scallops, and chicken tenders for the kids. Was hoping to get the lasagna, but was told they ran out for the day since it was Labor Day. It was 5pm. They also ran out of fries for the kids meal. But the kids were insistent on eating chicken tenders so we ordered it, thinking they would sub the starch since they were out of fries. Ended up coming just chicken tenders and had to request if there would be some kind of substitute since we're still getting charged full price of the kids meal. Overall, a disappointing meal. I have been dying to try North Italia ever since their grand opening! I finally got a chance to try a few weeks ago during their happy hour. My boyfriend and I made a reservation a week day during happy hour. The ladies at the front desk were kind and welcoming. We did realized we should have specified we were there for happy hour given we had to be moved outside to participate in it. I could see how this might be a turn off for some during extreme weather but for the time being, it was fine for us. Our waiter said he'd bring out menus for us but seemingly forgot so we took a look at the menu from our phones. By the time he brought the right menu to us, we were ready to order. We decided to try the margherita pizza and calamari. Both were so tasty! I particularly loved how cheesy the pizza was. The calamari with the lemon had me keep going in for more! Stopped by North Italia in Walnut Creek on a Sunday, and the area was definitely lively with lots of people out and about. Parking was pretty easy with two garages conveniently located on either side of the street. We were seated promptly, and my first impression of the restaurant was great. The space is really nice with a good ambiance, a large open bar, outdoor seating, and a huge open kitchen in the back. Overall, it has a really nice atmosphere. We started with the calamari fritti, which had a great presentation and came with pickled veggies, warm marinara, a really good aioli, and grilled lemon. It had a lot of flavor, but unfortunately was a little too salty. Without the extra salt, it would have been really good. For our mains, we ordered the bolognese and the chicken parmesan sandwich. The bolognese was pretty good, although for $28 the portion was on the smaller side. The chicken parmesan sandwich was good, but the BF would have preferred it prepared more like a traditional chicken parm sandwich. It would have been a lot better without the aioli. It was overpowering. Nonetheless, he enjoyed it enough that he said he would order it again without the aioli. Overall, we enjoyed the atmosphere and our experience. I just found this place.. I haven't been to Walnut Creek for a long time.. once I'm more mobile - I'll come and explore more.. I used to come to Ike's place often, that street has a really nice vibe to it and parking on the roof - parking is no so bad.. We went to the movies and then we went into the Cheesecake Factory - we have a love of cheesecake . I'm So happy we did.. We then went out to walk and I caught this fabulous smell of Italian food.. mmmmmmmmmmm. I grew up in Philly and that really brought back some good memories .. We stopped , looked at the menu and went In. My spidey senses were overwhelmed with mmmmmmm . Everything smelled soooo good .. we looked at the big menu and went for it ..: We got the calimari and the fungi pizza.. let's just say .. yessssss.. to both ... I will be back.. North Italia has room to grow, but sadly on my first visit I found the food and drink disappointing compared to other Italian restaurants nearby. I visited on Saturday, April 25th, with a 3pm reservation and it was still quite busy (but also the restaurant was new). We were seated promptly at a table where we could see into the kitchen. I was really impressed with the ambiance, decor, and the bar area and patio looked very inviting! It took a little while for our server to take our order. Unlike other Italian restaurants in the area, bread wasn't brought out automatically, so we ordered the White Truffle Garlic Bread (4.5/5) to start. This was very tasty and we even had leftovers, but sadly this is the only part of the meal I liked. I got the Sunday Night Lasagna (2.5/5), that has some short rib and sausage inside, and it was disappointing. Just not memorable and I wouldn't order it again. I also got a La Spezia (2/5) mocktail as a drink and it wasn't very good. I would consider coming back to try the bar area or patio since the vibe is really nice, and to give another pasta dish or the pizza a chance...But Downtown Walnut Creek has so many Italian restaurants now, and at least 3 of them have better food. read more

A quick stop that turned into a reminder of why this place is always busy. Stopped by with The Kid after a doctor's appointment and the Hercules Cultural Festival. We didn't have a reservation, but were seated immediately in the bar area at one of the high-top tables. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We had already eaten earlier in the day and were just looking for a little something, so we ordered the House-Made Focaccia, which is topped with wild oregano, rosemary, and sea salt. We also added the House Bomba Sauce. The focaccia was excellent. Crispy on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside, with amazing flavor from the herbs and sea salt. The House Bomba Sauce wasn't really for us personally, but I could absolutely see the appeal. It added a rich, savory element that many people would probably love. Unfortunately, because The Kid has allergies to nuts, tree nuts, and seeds, we weren't able to try the Sicilian Pistachio Pesto Whipped Ricotta option. For drinks, I ordered the famous Sicilian Margarita. It was delicious but definitely stronger than I expected, so I switched to a glass of Moscato, which was much more my speed. The Kid ordered one of their zero-proof drinks and really enjoyed it. The decor is beautiful with large murals throughout the restaurant, and the menu offers something for everyone. They also have an extensive wine list and a dessert menu that definitely caught my eye for next time. Exceptional service, great atmosphere, and delicious food. The space, indoors and out, is gorgeous. Beautiful vibe on a Saturday night. It was packed. We were told 50 minute wait so we were looking for another place but they got us in in about 10-15 minutes. The service was great but the menu needs some work still. The descriptions should match. The funghi had onions (though the menu did not mention it, and I had told the waitress that I have a near allergy aversion to onions). I only ate one slice and gave it away to the other couple I was with for home. The truffle garlic bread, both in its presentation and taste, is just amazing and made our night. We got a second order. The desserts were disappointing (again, the butter cake should have mentioned banana because my friend hates banana). The drinks were meh. I then switched to the chicken dish, only to find out that was unavailable too, so the restaurant must've been pretty busy even though it was only around 7 PM. The roasted salmon was also delicious, nicely crispy on the bottom while still not feeling greasy. Service was extremely slow we just awkwardly sat for an hour before even getting drinks even. My food didn't come even after all my friends food came in so I just ended up cancelling my order. We also upgraded the pizza crust and we didn't get the upgrade. She did not table touch at all. The portions were small for how much it was. It was extremely disappointing. We wanted to try this new location because it was a favorite of ours in Virginia, specifically for their fabulous Farmers Market Chef's Board and its amazing vegetables. Our server stopped by to take drink orders, and other than water, I got a cappuccino. We tried the following - Margherita pizza - we wanted to try a pizza to share, and the server recommended the margherita pizza. Good stuff usually, but I wasn't too fond of this one. The pizza was really soft, and the cheese seemed stuck such that it took more effort to pick up the slices. Flavors were alright, but the sogginess wasn't pleasant. Arancini - 6 lil balls to an order with a side of sauce. Both the balls and sauce had good flavor, but the balls were a bit too salty for my liking. Italian Meatballs - my fave thing I tried this time. The meatballs itself were bland and they get pretty solid if not eaten right away. The ricotta and sauce was everything here. Staff was friendly, and honestly, such a fun way to keep my birthday celebrations going. We opted to sit on the patio since it was such a gorgeous day, and it made the experience even better. FOOD ALLERGY ALERT- Our experience started off great with a friendly and attentive server. He made sure to note that my friend has a shrimp allergy, and when our food arrived, another server specifically reassured her that they had made sure there was no shrimp in her meal. She ordered the chicken parmesan, which doesn't normally contain shrimp. After taking a few bites, she discovered multiple amounts of shrimp buried in the pasta. We immediately told our server, and the manager came over and had a new plate made. They were apologetic, but we actually had to ask for her meal to be comped. We also waited for her replacement meal before eating so that we could all enjoy dinner together. What concerns me most is that the restaurant was clearly informed about the allergy, acknowledged it, and even reassured us that the food was safe, yet shrimp still ended up in her meal. A food allergy isn't simply an incorrect order. This could have resulted in a serious allergic reaction and a trip to the hospital. I appreciate that the staff apologized and replaced the meal, but given the seriousness of the mistake, I expected the restaurant and management to do more to acknowledge what happened. Came here with a group of eight to celebrate a friend's birthday, and I left with pretty mixed feelings. The biggest saving grace of the evening was easily the service. Right off the bat, our reservation was a little puzzling. Despite knowing we had a party of eight, we were seated in what was essentially a booth better suited for six. It arrived overcooked, dry, and rubbery, which made for a disappointing start. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, the truffle garlic bread was phenomenal. Crispy, buttery, fragrant, and packed with flavor, it's easily something I'd order again without hesitation. I went with the ricotta cavatelli with lump crab and shrimp. The flavors were excellent, and the seafood tasted fresh, but the pasta itself leaned a little past al dente and was slightly overcooked. Still a very enjoyable dish overall. For the price point and being in Walnut Creek, I expected the food to be a bit more memorable. It wasn't bad by any means. It just didn't quite live up to the expectations that come with the atmosphere and menu prices. What really kept this from being a lower rating was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was warm, attentive, and genuinely accommodating throughout the evening. They handled our large party well and made sure drinks stayed full and everyone felt taken care of. I'd probably come back for the truffle garlic bread and the hospitality, but I'd temper my expectations when it comes to the food. Wow! We were there for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon and the place was humming! Large - very large!beautifully laid out space, indoor and outdoor. They are here to stay, baby! Serious investment in this brand new restaurant. They do need a few more weeks under their belt to smooth some things out, but they were minor - like mixing up Lunch and Dinner menus. There were four of us and we ordered family style. - chopped chicken salad, actually delicious! Enough to share. - spicy Italian grinder sandwich with Parmesan French fries. Glad we were splitting it! Sandwich was excellent, the extra crispy fries were better! - spicy rigatoni vodka: good, not awesome. Could have been a touch spicier. Our waiter and his helpers were doing fine. The kitchen seemed a little backed up as there was a long wait between the salad and the entrees - and the two entrees came out separately about five minutes apart. Hence, they lost a star. North Italia opened 2.5 weeks ago, keep that in mind before visiting. The staff is very "green" and confused. There were 5 people behind the front desk doing nothing* as a line crowded around in chaos. Customers were asking each other about wait times and places in line. Wait times are long, despite empty tables inside and outside. After settling on bar seating, we noticed that the staff behind the bar was also plentiful. They socialized with each other, rather than greeting us. We had to interrupt their personal conversation for service. My husband's meal was incorrect, asking to pay the bill was a challenge. We inquired about using apple pay, and a young lady behind the bar asked my husband to unlock his cell phone so she could walk away with it and tap pay all the way down at the end of their very long bar. This was completely unprofessional and alarming. She could have asked my husband to follow her down closer to the pay station. I don't know what's going on here, but it was a stressful and challenging experience. Wouldn't recommend. Perhaps give them ample time to train the staff prior to visiting. read more

Came here on a sat afternoon and the weather was perfect and ambiance was nice. The service was good but the wait was too long. My Italian Cobb salad was unique and tasty and pretty big. The fig pizza is filling and more on the sweet side and but the dough is too chewy and not crispy. I would try the pasta next time but I would really hope they would improve on their wait time. The staff was apologetic about it. Overall, I think it might be worth another shot. Hope it is because it is a beautiful space. read more
