Food 5/5 I recently tried Melo's for the first time from a catering order in the Pleasant Hill location. The food was so good and every one of the guests remarked they enjoyed the food. Melos Pizza is an institution in Pleasant Hill, California, and Contra Costa County. I've eaten at this restaurant for over 50 years and they've always been consistently solid in the quality and taste of their pizza. When I'm traveling through the area visiting and we're in the mood for Pizza this is a must stop as their pizza is as good as Pizza I've had in Italy. My wife loves the raviolis that are cooked very tender with a nice creamy red sauce on them . Their salads have always been solid, offering fresh crisp lettuce with tomatoes, croutons, carrot with house made salad dressing. Having eaten here for so long I can tell you that they use only the best ingredients. Many of the ingredients are from Italy and don't contain the chemicals that are approved here in the United States in things like their flour. After being a frequent customer to the Walnut Creek Melos, my sister and I were curious what the Pleasant Hill location had in store for us. Looking at photos and reviews they seemed quite different although they were the same company, so we had to give it a try. We came during a weekday happy hour and had a great time. For being the same restaurant the menu was vastly different than the WC location, both the full and happy hour menu. Most notably, our favorite fried spaghetti squares are not on this menu. For such a fantastic and unique option, I was shocked to see them missing. I also did not see the vegan Caesar salad dressing option, which is a huge draw for us both at the other location as vegetarians, so it was deeply missed. I did see eggplant Parmesan, which I didn't get to try, but I am a huge fan of, so I'll be back to try that at a later date. We got a garden salad with ranch dressing which was what you would expect. Not bad, but nothing special, although the chilled plate was a nice addition. The garlic bread was good, albeit a little crispy for me. The happy hour deals of being able to buy an entire bottle of wine discounted was a great option for us as we could pour for ourselves. This was also helpful as our waiter seemed to be always too busy for us although it wasn't very busy. We also got the garlic fries which were great- can never go wrong with those. The Alfredo was very bland, but would be appealing to a kid or picky eater. Lastly we ordered two flatbreads from the happy hour menu, one veggie one, and the meatball one once my boyfriend arrived. Those were the highlight of the meal. Overall I think I'd be back to try their full size pizza's, it's nice that this location is closer to me, and the happy hour deals can be slightly better depending on what you decide to order. For overall dining experience and menu choices, Walnut Creek is the better option, but this is still a great casual place to visit. read more

We like coming here and the food is good and fresh. Recently my husband and I both got some pasta, his had a cream sauce with chicken and mine was fusili and veggies with a creamy pesto. The sauce was so watery. It did not stick to the pasta at all. It basically pooled in a runny pool at the bottom of the plate and didn't have much flavor. When I was younger I worked in an Italian restaurant. The creamy pasta we served were rich and clung to the pasta lien they are supposed to. This was not cooked long enough to thicken the cream (assuming it was cream used in the sauce) it could have been much better had they cooked it a little longer. The dining room was full when we came in so maybe they were trying to get dishes out fast. It really effected the quality and taste of the meal. My husband's was the same way. Went back in early 2025 to have another great pizza. The 3 employees that were supposed to be waiting on customers could not find the time of day to even acknowledge us. We finally were waited on, the pizza finally came out. It was good as usual, but we still couldn't get the time of day from our server. We are now done with this place. Maybe 40 years coming here (even after moving away) and just can't justify doing business with an arrogant staff of employees. Possible change in management, or maybe some 3rd generation family has just been given too much. I don't know, and I don't care. Learn how to run a business or get out of the business. We have been back to Pleasant Hill 4 times in the last year and have found a better pizza and great service up the hill a short distance away. We tried Melo's Pizza & Pasta, but ordered takeout for a special occasion. We like the food, but I think it might've been better if we had eaten in as opposed to takeout. It was highly recommended from some friends, and you could tell that it is a local favorite by the packed crowd. We ordered the pasta, carbonara, pasta with clams and red sauce, and some chicken wings to go. The carbonara pasta was good, it had peas, which I'm not used to having that dish. Overall, the taste was good, but they use pancetta as opposed to guanciale, which isn't the authentic way to prepare it. With clams and red sauce was good as well, but once again I think it would be better if we ate it in person. The chicken wings they were tasty, but a little soggy probably because they sweated on the ride home. Overall, I cannot speak for the service, but the ambience was very nice. I can't wait to actually visit again and try the food in house to try one of their infamous pizzas. Check them out, they must be good if they've expanded to other locations. read more

Went in with my son recently and had a wonderful experience. The hostess at the front greeted up promptly and staff was friendly and accommodating. Once seated, our server came over quickly. The garlic cheese bread was perfection! It had the perfect amount of garlic, the bread was warm and crispy, and we both loved it! The pizza was cooked excellently! The bottom was slightly crispy and the pepperonis were slightly crispy around the edges just how I like! My son's favorite were the garlic fries! They seem to have expanded this restaurant since the last time we visited it a few years ago. The restaurant was almost full on a Friday evening, so the service was a bit slow, but the ambiance was still great. The restaurant was clean, tidy, and our waitress was friendly. My fave from this restaurant is still their Fettuccia con Pollo. This dish is flat ribbon-shaped pasta with chicken breast, zucchini, and chopped pancetta, served in sherry cream sauce. The cream sauce was delicious and savory. The pasta was cooked to perfection. The zucchini added a nice touch of vegetables. The chicken breast was good and tender too. Don't forget to soak up the cream sauce using the complimentary bread they give you. Also, worth mentioning was their Caesar salad, which was super delicious and creamy. It was so good to the point that I wasn't sure anymore if the salad was actually healthy. Lol. But I would get this again on any day. We live around the area and have a lot of years being their customers, but the employees they have been serving customers lately , with all the respect , they aren't the best servers and they don't not give great service. We usually have big family groups , and they apply their own tip to the bill, and don't get treated like we should. Went for a girls lunch to Melos in pleasant hill. Seated right away during lunch time, was not very busy at all. Service was prompt and friendly. Didn't get pictures of all the food but we enjoyed our lunch. House salad with champagne vinegar was very fresh and plenty of toppings including olive croutons and tomatoes. Minestone soup is so hearty and flavorful. The chicken cotoletta was nicely fried and bread was soft. The grilled chicken sandwich was disappointing only because the focaccia was SO toasted that it was crunchy. But the grilled onions were perfect and plenty of cheese. The upgraded garlic fries were fried to perfection and had tons of garlic. I cannot wait to go back to Melos as they also have a very good looking happy hour menu. Since our regular pizza place was closed we tried Melo's and was not impressed at all. The pizza lacked flavor. Toppings were fine but since their pizzas are priced a little higher you would expect a great pizza. Their small salad was over $10 which is a small salad enough barely for 1 person. I pretty much can go to any pizza place and get the same type of food for a lower price. If you want to charge higher prices bring up the food quality to fit those prices. read more

The service has really always been rocky but as of recently it has been terrible. We ordered a pizza and multiple pastas to go. One of the men who at the time was making pizzas with the twisted mustache was rude off the start. We were waiting to be helped and came up aggressively to us asking if he could help us with anything and we advised provided the name on the order. He only handed us a pizza. After letting him know we had other entrees he treated us like we were the bad guys and kept being passive as if we wouldn't be able to afford the order.
