    Fantastic desert Cannoli Trio

After a long day of work my dad and I needed to grab something to eat in Walnut Creek we found a spot we look straight ahead and said might as well try something new and lo and behold. We found ourselves a hidden gem. everything about this restaurant is a 10 out of 10 the food and service work, exceptional big shadows of Alex and the rest of the crew for hooking us up with an amazing meal can't wait to come back again everything about this restaurant was amazing the mood music and setting caused for a relaxing afternoon to a hard day of work the Ambiance of this restaurant is amazing we would love to come back again

Delightful Friday night out on the patio at Massimo's. My friend and I ordered limoncello spritzes, and they were perfect not too sweet and with house made limoncello. Our shrimp appetizer was outstanding! A nice char flavor with creamy sauce - delicious! I loved my eggplant parmigiana, complete with peas and a touch of pesto. Everyone else in our party loved their dishes, branzino special, lobster risotto, and carbonara. We were too full for dessert, but will come back to try the bread pudding and their warm chocolate cake special.

We came for tomahawk Thursday and it's a great special. You get two salads two appetizers you share a tomahawk and then you get two desserts. It's a lot of food. They also have parking next door with a meter

Had an excellent meal at Massimo. The food was excellent! Was a little uncomfortable when check in. The restaurant had lots of empty tables as it was around 5p Sunday. We were asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. The guy says, ' no problem', then walks us through the 2/3 empty restaurant to a side room. Really didn't appreciate that, but there was a large party also sitting in the side room. The service was good, but I think our waitress may have been helping guest in the main dining room. We didn't see her nearly enough. Thankfully, the extended staff kept the water glass covered. Side note, there were a few misses between request not actually making it to the table. At the end of the day, we just reasked the busboy and continued enjoying our food. Definite communication ussues between the waitress and the bus staff. I'm pretty sure at least two of our request went to the other party. Then when paying bill, had more circle communication just trying to break a $20. We wanted to leave extra for the busboy, but he was literally scared to touch the money. ‍ At the end of the day... will try another day.... the food really was excellent.

Chicken Marsala -- just bizarre, with a thick and heavy sauce atop a mound of undercooked, crunchy risotto.

Our server was lovely, but the entrees were a sad disappointment. Bring back the old menu. Why fix what wasn't broken?

Massimo is our favorite before a show at Dean Lesher theatre. The charming, romantic, restaurant is elegant. Each table is adorned with a candle. Tables are covered with white linens that bring us back to days where nice restaurants all had linens. Service was excellent. Our server regularly asked about the courses he delivered. The sea bass with mashed potatoes and asparagus was extremely tasty. The burrata had great texture and flavor. The Sbriciolata lemoncello dessert was a very pleasant surprise. We strongly recommend you giving them a try. Updating to re-add photos

Beautiful location and fantastic service! Every week we try to check out a new restaurant, and this spot came highly recommended. We started with their amazing cheese bread and homemade meatballs. I'm usually super picky when it comes to meatballs, but these were so good--and dipping the cheese bread in the sauce? Game changer. I ordered the Mango Tango martini, and honestly, it tasted like vacation in a glass. I could've easily had three more! My girlfriend got the cucumber cocktail and thought it was okay, but not nearly as good as mine. For our entrees, we ordered the Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Marsala, and the Pasta Massimo. Everything looked beautiful and was cooked perfectly, but we all agreed it could've used a bit more seasoning. That's really my only critique--flavor-wise, it felt a little underwhelming. Service was excellent--our waiter was super friendly and attentive--and the restaurant itself was spotless. I'd absolutely come back for appetizers and drinks. Definitely worth a

I'm going to give Massimo 5 stars, not necessarily because the food is the best thing I've ever had but for a few reasons. I had a good well rounded experience here. We went on a slow night before July 4th. 1. The service was strong and they are super attentive. 2. The bang for your buck. The menu is fairy priced the food is solid, not spectacular but solid. But the amount of food you get for the price is some of the best in Walnut Creek. Normally I feel like I get overcharged when I eat out in Walnut Creek. This I felt like was great value. I do wish the corkage fee was slightly cheaper or you could get a deal for bringing 2 bottles. Some of the food.... -The cheese platter was only $23, I didn't get a photo of that but it was super filling and you got a good amount of food for the price. At most places I think this is a rip off, I 100% would get this again here. -Soup of the day only $9 and it was lobster that day, absolute steal. -Crab Stack $28, very good, I wanted to-try this I did like it but probably wouldn't do that again. -Shrimp Capellini $33 my wife really liked this. -Rib Eye steak $47 - This is one of the only things I think maybe I could do better, I would get steak here again but probably something different for the price, it was good still for the price but I just prefer my own. -Parm Fries - they had really really awesome fries. -Blackberry chese cake..... I don't normally get desert but so so so so good!! One of the best values in WC, would return.

The NYE menu - unbelievable. We would have came even if the price was $150 pp

Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Value 10/10 We came as a large group for NYE late seating and although it was raining cats and dogs outside, dinner was magical. This is our second year here and I was floored. I started off with a new cocktail for me the French 75 with vodka vs gin and my husband had bourbon neat. The lady bartender was so good, friendly and easily took care of our crowd with wonderful cocktails. The menu and the food quality is exceptional. Stephanie MA, was our server and she was friendly, met our table of 12 every need which is hard with a big group. The menu is pre fix and we couldn't been happier I started with grilled oysters topped with butter and caviar. My husband had focaccia topped with crap and prawns. I had seared scallops and my partner had the fig salad and a huge portion of filet mignon topped with crab and prawns. I had the seared duck breast and for desert chocolate lava cake for me and a lemon foam concoction. Each of the food offerings were plated beautifully and our group was happy with everything. We finished our meal and at midnight we had a champagne toast, a balloon drop and old school dj music encouraging all of us to join on the dance floor. Massimo's outdid themselves and I intend to come in for dinner throughout the year as we live close. It is without reservation,I encourage you to dine here. I'm definitely coming next year for NYE. Bravo!

    Definitely not cooked enough.

From our reservation time to receiving food was over 1 1/2 hours. First dish delivered to last dish delivered was another 10 minutes. When the food arrives the 2 Mother's Day Crab Benedicts arrived looking completely different. One had paprika and parsley on top, the other was plain Hollandaise. One had barely cooked eggs, completely runny whites and yolks. The other Benedict had basically hard boiled eggs. See pics. This was a horrendous experience. Also, the kitchen was not really busy from my observation.

    Fish and Chips

Best medium rare burger that we have had in a long time without having to send the burger back to the kitchen multiple times. Today, we ordered the Massimo Burger, Fish and chips and a Cabernet. We were so happy with our choices. I rarely eat fish and chips, but I was looking forward to carbs so that ordered fish and chips as my meal. We were so happy with our meals. The service was amazing and the restaurant was clean!

Interior is interesting, it's like you're dining at someone's home? Street parking or there are lots nearby with the first hours or so free. Service was good  The Valentines prix consisted of an app, entree, and dessert, some of which are not on their regular menu!!  -bread and marinara (4/5): bread was great, thick slices and nice crust. Marinara was standard -potato-leek puree (4/5): came in a cute little cup to drink out of, good flavor -gamberoni (5/5): prawns were a good size and perfectly grilled. The sauce was a good addition -polette (4/5): meatballs were juicy and the pesto was flavorful and creamy. Interesting thing to have as an appetizer though -fettuccini carne (5/5): I always have an internal struggle about getting a red sauce or a cream sauce, so this was the perfect option as a creamy red sauce pasta. Serving size was good, and there was also plenty of meat and mushrooms, which I loved! Flavor was great! -lamp chop (4/5): good grilled flavor, but one was slightly too raw for our liking so we had to send it back to the kitchen to cook it some more. Our waitress was very understanding though! The mashed potatoes and veggies were also good. -tiramisu (3.5/5): good flavor, but there was wayyy more cream than ladyfinger, so the textural balance was off. And I love cream! -peanut butter chocolate brownie (4/5): really good but also pretty sweet. Loved how thick the whipped cream was, but didn't taste as much peanut butter as I would've liked Overall, I had a great experience for their valentines day prix menu. Food was great and I would definitely go back to try their pasta!

The pace of our dinner moved along exactly as expected. Service (Jess, et al) is friendly, professional and timely. Members of the service staff moved in and out efficiently to refill water, remove plates and keep our table uncluttered. The dining room is busy and loud (or maybe we're old), so there was quite a bit of "what did you say" in our conversations, but it did not diminish the experience. The wine list provides a great selection to complement the menu without breaking the bank. Menu prices are in line with what we see these days - and the large portions make dining here a great value. Our table ordered Pollo Scallopini, Vitello (veal) Scallopini, Melanzane (eggplant) Parmigiana, and the off-menu special Salmon Piccata. Everything was excellent. The veal was a big hit with the table. Strongly recommend making a reservation. Looks like they do a good job with larger parties without impacting smaller tables and couples. So capacity is very limited. 3) We ordered lemonade for kids. They serve it in short glasses filled with ice to the brim (despite our ask for "no ice"), effectively reducing the liquid volume. We paid $35 for lemonade. 4) Food is very uneventful, nothing was remarkable. Their gnocchi with meat resembled Chef Boyardee from back in college times. Not sure why this place felt so pretentious with really no substance to back it. With so many options around like Montecatini, Doppio Zero, Benvenuti, La Fontaine, etc, not sure how they are still in business. Definitely not recommended for families, and have a hard time figuring out what audience they cater to.

Our waiter left us sitting for very long periods of time between courses, and we actually had to flag down another server to get the check. For my part, I expected better than the food I received. My husband and I split the chopped Italian salad, which we both agreed was rather flavorless and definitely underdressed. I ended up pouring some of the oil and balsamic vinegar from the bread dipping plate into the salad, which made it a little better. I ordered the Tuesday Trio which was a sampling of three supposedly popular pasta dishes. The Tagliatelle with Ragu was OK but a little dry. The corkscrew pasta with sun-dried tomatoes and pesto cream sauce was actually quite good, but my biggest disappointment was their rigatoni à la vodka, which is one of my favorite dishes. This restaurant's version was heavily flavored with smoky bacon, which, in my opinion really drowned out the lightness of a creamy vodka sauce. It was also pretty salty - I couldn't really eat it. However, my husband's Pollo de Toscana was delicious. Overall, I was unimpressed. I know there are better Italian places out there. Probably won't be back.

We originally planned to grab boba and eat at a different restaurant but when we parked the smell in the air called us to Tomatina instead. We originally came in and the older gentleman said they couldn't seat us right away and to come back in 20 minutes. We didn't mind and took a walk around the block and was seated right away when we returned and he brought us menus. A waiter came and was friendly, making sure he got the order correct. It seemed like he may have been in training. We decided to each get a lemonade, share the meatball appetizer, I ordered the pasta trio and my husband ordered the chicken parmesan. The meal started out nice with the drinks immediately coming out and the appetizer shortly after. The drinks were good, however they were out of pint glasses and came in a collins glass instead. The waiter mentioned the lack of pints and the smaller glass calling it fancy but didn't reference if we'd get a discount or a refill due to the smaller portion as a result of the glass switch. The meatballs were tender and had a good flavor. The sauce was nice and the bread was serviceable. After we finished our appetizer, there was a lack in service for at least 15 minutes. They did not clear the dirty dishes, offer water, or provide any type of check in. While we waited, my spouse had noticed a pasta entree (and a salad) was put up and was placed on top of a pizza box. He didnt think much of it until we started to realize we had been waiting longer than felt appropriate and noticed it was 3 different colors, like you'd expect for a pasta trio like I had ordered. Eventually the pasta was removed and we gave the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't my food that had been sitting out for at at least 10 minutes and they were just slow. A few minutes later, a waitress brought our entrees and they finally cleared the appetizer plates. I took my first bite and my food was cold. Not it cooled down but was still kinda warm, any food that was exposed to air was physically cold to the touch. My husband tried to flag the waitress down that delivered the food and her and another worker were talking and looking at their register with no awareness of the rest of the room. Given the service thus far, I just got up with the food and walked it over. I explained it was cold to the point where I said she could touch it (I proceeded to touch a noodle) and it's obviously too cold to be served. She apologized and said she talk the the cook/chef. My spouse watched as she went with my cold plate to the open kitchen and it was clear that she explained I said it was cold but they were not planning on remaking it and just reheating it. A trio of pastas with 3 different sauces would not be reheated in a pan so the assumption is there would be a microwave involved. My spouse got up and approached the cook and waitress that reheating the pasta was unacceptable because if we wanted reheated pasta, we could get something from a freezer section grocery store. At this point the waitress seemed shocked that we'd say anything about them choosing to just reheat the food. After a few more remarks they finally said that they'd remake my food. But that'd mean I had to wait while my spouse ate or my husband would wait and then their food was cold when we eat together. At this point, the service was so bad and they made it fell like we were inconveniencing them by wanting at least warm food, my spouse said we just wanted to settle up and leave. Again it took them a minute to process that we didn't want to stay there anymore and eventually said we could just leave. We left and have no plans on returning. I would consider trying a different location since it's a chain, but I will not be back to the Walnut Creek location. I give Tomatina a very generous 2 stars for the service at the very start of the night and the flavor of the meatballs.
