Replaced 2 of 3 lights ... was told they were installed wrong causing cracking on water tight fixture. Now tile cracking and lots of loose tiles! "Bond beam cracking" and gonna be expensive to repair! Called Rick and of course "no warranty coverage ". I can never recommend a company that doesn't stand behind their work .... Working with Rick, Maggie and Brett and the rest of the gang at American Heritage was a great experience and they knew exactly what we were after. We started with a sand lot and ended up with paradise. Fiberglass pools are the way to go in Palm Springs. I have several friends with more expensive gunite pools and the cost of upkeep on our pool is near to nothing compared to what they go through. The pool heats within 3 hours during the cold months and it practically takes care of itself and uses very little chlorine. Our pool vacuum keeps it nice and clean year round. Even with the supply chain issues during our install, American heritage came through for us and had alternative suggestions for what we wanted to achieve. We had a great time working with everyone. Not only did they help us with financing, the pool, the pavers, the concrete, electrical, they also helped us find great electricians, plumbers and other contractors for our other projects. read more

The pool looks great and I'm happy with the overall look! We did experience some hiccups throughout this experience that sucked the fun out of building a new pool and ended with not the best customer service unfortunately. I would highly recommend holding on to your contract closely throughout the process. Ask a ton of questions/do research before signing. Pool lingo is their second language and completely foreign to you if you've never had a pool. So you naturally trust the experts and whatever they say, but ASK QUESTIONS AND DO RESEARCH, don't let anyone make you feel rushed at any point of this process (getting a quote/at signing/through out build out/final walk thru). It's a huge investment and you should game plan every single detail prior to signing a big contract. That was my mistake, I feel like I trusted too much and didn't ask enough questions and allowed the rushiness. Lesson learned! Ask for photo updates or even visit your project weekly so you can get accurate updates. Or better yet, install a ring camera where you can see the work yourself! We had concrete pad/pavers leading to the pool (that were part of the design on the contract) that weren't poured which was a bummer since it was such a cool design factor. They did offer to correct it by pouring those on another day but it was a period of bad weather, so that would've pushed my project even longer and we were already a month and a half past due so I couldn't afford more time. They did give me a refund for the missed concrete though! I'd recommend putting in the contract that they hand off the pool to you completely full with clean and clear water and no dirt. I was handed off with a dirty pool which was super surprising. They told me it has a lot of dirt at the bottom bc of construction/wind. They have a pool cleaner that cleans for the final two weeks of their work, but that doesn't necessarily mean he will be done once it's clean, he literally is done once he's been going for two weeks regardless of how it looks at the end which is odd but I assumed I'd get a clean and perfect pool at the end. They said they could do me a favor and send him one more time on their dime for me but that still didn't do the trick. I had to pay a pool cleaner to come and really get it clear. But they were kind enough to refund me the amount I paid for the pool guy I hired. The first week of renting out my airbnb with the new pool, there was a leak under the concrete, pouring water into the backyard. I notified them and they were quick to send someone out the next morning to fix it and all is well now! So even though I didn't have the best ending to my experience with them they definitely tried to correct the issues. I have 4 other properties in the area I plan to build pools at this year and I am open to looking at other builders but also potentially using them again. I learned a lot from this experience and I'm sure applying all the hiccups I experienced this go round will make for a smoother next round. If you're reading this review right now, you probably are having great visions of putting in a pool and imagining how great it will be. Then run from this company and pick another. What a nightmare. We called Margaret in Feb 2020 thinking we will be swimming by summer. Ha! It's now January 2021 and it's still not done. No water and the place is a mess. Dealing with Rick and Margaret for nearly a year has taken all the fun out of putting in a pool. After excuses about permits, they finally broke ground in July. Weeks would go by and nobody showed up to work. They said the gunite has to cure. But the equipment shed, surrounding rock work etc could have been worked on during that time period. They dug a trench for pipes and left the trench open for a month. We asked him to give us an update every Friday when this had been going on for months and he refuses to do that. Rick is becoming so hostile, he tries to create a relationship that we are afraid to call him with concerns or our input on how we want our pool to look. We are spending $150,000 for a rock pool and slide, spa, waterfall and we are not allowed to discuss the aesthetics with our contractor. When we try to meet with them to discuss items or a safety rail of rocks at the top of the slide (it was very hard to visualize the rock formations and elevations of the structure from a birds eye hand drawing) Rick just says "talk to me when I'm done". But by then, he will be nearly paid in full. I don't want to talk to him when he's done. I want to talk to him now. But he is so hostile it's impossible. He keeps asking for checks we've already given him (Margaret lost apparently). I tell him I'll write him a replacement and stop payment on the other (text him actually as he doesn't talk to us) This has been a year long nightmare. He's threatened to walk off the job a few times. He told us excuses of family health issues, his own health issues, and finally told us he's taken on too many pools. He sends out one or two guys and they putter around slowly one of them, the big guy does absolutely nothing all day. Stay tuned for an updated review of how this whole nightmare pans out. We had concerns about the back side of the waterfall/slide when he used some of our rail road ties to help support it. Rick treats us like we're harassing him when we ask for updates and why it's taking so long. They broke a water line and turned our water off for weeks. On May 13th, 2021, I signed a contract with American Heritage Pool to construct a new swimming pool. Because of COVID-19, the work began in November 2021. The excavation occurred on 11/22, 11/23, and 11/24/2021. I also told Miguel, the foreman that the gas company needed to approve where he planned to run the gas line before excavating. He cut two lines leading from the utility meters to the rear of the property. American Heritage Pool Company did not call 811 - Dig Alert before excavating on 11/22/2021. I fired them. The California Contractors State License Board determined that American Heritage Pool Corporation violated one or more business and professions codes, particularly, the Dig-Alert Law. I am in the process of suing them. Do NOT hire this company. read more

If you're looking for a pool contractor and expect any level of professionalism, basic courtesy and decent execution, this is not it. American Heritage Pool is by far the worst contractor we've unfortunately had the dishonor to work with. If you're doing your homework and researching prospective pool companies (we did not do this) please read all the one star reviews on this page, those past clients are not exaggerating, we experienced it first hand ourselves. Maggie was initially kind in the beginning so we contracted her company to build our pool in December with an estimated completion date of March 1st. On May 6 we had to cancel the contract due to alarming and inadequate work due to them cutting corners anywhere they could. Once they found out we were on to them, all customer service went out the door (although not much existed to begin with). On once occasion her husband Rick completely lost his temper and caused a scene yelling at my partner while he and his team were at our home and called her a dummy for asking questions. When asked why they changed the design of the pool without consulting with us they said they don't do design consultations so if they make a mistake, you just have to take what they give you. They stopped answering calls and responding to emails labeling it "harassment." Every once in a while we were able to get through to them via text. I kindly asked Maggie on multiple occasions to send us a quick text (since proper scheduling was too much for them to handle) when her crew would be coming by to do work on the pool so that we could be prepared but she never did that, not once. One morning my fiancé and I were in bed with the doors leading to the backyard open when one of her guys unexpectedly walked right by us. Zero warning! When we finally canceled our contract our pool was still only 50% complete and cracking due them pouring the gunite/concrete in two phases several days apart when it's typically done in one single pour to prevent cracks from forming overtime. While most reputable companies bring a backup gunite/concrete truck on-site on the day of the pour, American Heritage chanced it by only ordering one truck which then broke down midway through the job and was left as-is for a few days. The electrical was not done to code, the gauge of the wires and underground conduit were inadequate and smaller than they stated on the contract and what is standard and safe. They lied about passing the electrical inspection and after we obtained the job card from the city which contains every inspection done we learned that American Heritage failed to call for an inspection altogether on such a crucial part of the construction and buried their shoddy work. When the city finally came to look at it after we called for the inspection ourselves, they said the electrical work was a fire hazard. Mind you this electrical is being pulled from our home! As other reviewers have mentioned, when you try to cancel a contract with them, they will threaten you with a mechanical lien against your home. They front load the payments by inflating the work on the first few phases so if you cancel you would have paid for more than what you are left with. They will send one to two guys to work on your pool every other week prolonging the process. Simply put, they're a nightmare to work with and have zero integrity. read more

Not only is he reliable and a man of his word but his quality and workmanship is superb. They are well priced and fair and do beautiful work. Early summer of 2016 we had Rick and Maggie come out to our home and help us come up with a plan for an inground pool and backyard reno project for a fairly small space, relatively speaking. Our pool was just finished in January. It is just amazing and more than we could have wished for. We have had a houseful of guests that are just amazed at how well it all turned out. And we have all been enjoying the new beautiful pool, spa, and patio. We choose to work with Rick and Maggie after getting several estimates and meeting with several other pool builders. Rick and Maggie are really great to work with. We left a couple of days after signing the contract and returned a few days before completion. (Im glad we were absent during all of the demo and construction.) We have had to reach out to Rick to assist us with some issues with learning to use controls and he has been great to get back to us and work through the issues with us. Wow!! What can I say. This was undoubtedly the worse experience of my life. Never have I dealt with a contractor as unprofessional as Rick. I don't know where to start except run don't walk to another contractor. The pool is fine but Rick isn't. We changed things along the way and Rick would give me a verbal figure and I paid him in cash immediately. However for months and I mean months he has refused to give me an itemized list of all the charges that added up to a whopping $80,000. He ran over the timeframe listed in the contract without even an apology. The pool was finally completed weeks after the timeframe and only because part of the cost of the pool was funded by a bank that gave a drop dead date that was upon us for completion or he would have lost money. At the end he gave me a three minute tutorial on operating the pool at the main box. Way too much to take in at one time. I paid him over $2,000 to be able to operate the basic pool features from my phone. He handed me the box and said here get someone to install it. I paid $8,000 for additional pavers including shipping based on his estimate of the amount of pavers needed. He claimed all the unused pavers were his and I didn't pay for them. If he estimated how many pavers it would take then why isn't the extra pavers mine? Plus I paid for the entire shipping costs of the pavers but he refuses to give me a breakdown line item of all the expenses. The last time I asked again for the breakdown he threatened he would give it to me but I would owe him more money!! I have no extra pavers for future repairs and no idea where to get them. Rick begged me to get the bank to release the final payment to him because he needed the money so he could pay his men. Once I did getting him back here was nearly impossible. There are many fine pool construction companies in the Valley. Do yourself a favor and check them out. read more

Just bought a property in Desert Hot Springs and needed to build a pool and spa. I was lucky to find Rick from American Heritage Pool Company. He came to my house to take a look at the yard and told me what type of pool and amenities would be good for my house, he also gave me an estimated price right then and there (which most of the other companies wouldn't do). His price wasn't the lowest from the others, but I felt the most comfortable with him and he seemed like the most reliable out of the rest. Thankfully, I was right about him because he wen't above and beyond what I asked for. I bought this home as a vacation house so I was only able to visit on the weekends, therefore, I had to instill my full trust with Rick and he definitely didn't let me down. He told me it would take 7 weeks, but by the 6th week I was already swimming in my brand new pool. He also gave me a lifetime warranty! I can't thank you enough Rick! This job (my 2nd time using them) was completed to the letter of the contract. Pool was retiled, coping ground down and topped with flagstone, old plaster was acid washed, and soaked with chlorine to brighten. Not cheap. The tile work was good, the coping redo was good, the plaster cleaning was not. Not even close to acceptable (heavy, very dark calcium deposits on pool bottom) Pool needed bead blasting/sanding to remove heavy calcium deposits leftover from long period of abandon, this after I was assured this would come off with acid/ chlorine wash. I get that hiccups and problems arise but when the owner attacks the customers' "pool cleaning judgement/credentials" without even seeing the pool... The fix was an 8 hour job that I did myself (105 degrees outside) after owner threw a fit via text after I voiced a calm, reasonable complaint with the quality of work. read more

We used American Heritage Pool Corp.in the fall of 2013 to design and install an in-ground spa that would "waterfall" into our existing pool. Overall, they did an awesome job. Billed exactly to estimate, but probably about 2 weeks behind schedule if I recall correctly. Curing and tiling seemed to take a little longer than planned, but it was no real issue for us. We have had tons of compliments on it, we had no issues with their work whatsoever, mechanically or cosmetically. We worked closely with them during the design stage, and they were the ones that came up with the suggestion to build it off the corner of the pool, we had first thought it should go square at the end of the pool. There was existing blue tile edging the pool, which we were hoping to match for the spa, understanding that the existing tile was about 20 years old. After much effort, they managed to find almost an exact match from some supplier. We were shocked and amazed, and obviously very happy that they went to the trouble to do that. Others would likely have just said "no - that tile is no longer available". They have been really great to work with. read more
