We ordered furniture from Melray's's in 7/2021 prior to closing on our new home in Central New Jersey. We dealt directly with the owners daughter and her Father. We gave an ample deposit as we designed and ordered an entire living room and dining room set of furnishings. Picked exquisite fabrics and materials. We hand picked the store due to familial relationships established for years. We ordered a set of living room chairs, a Bernhardt sofa, pillows, lamps, and a particular coffee table. They delivered the dining room set two years ago. We purchase additional products from them on top of the order which we paid in full upon delivery. it's been more than two years and we still don't have our furniture. We've gotten every excuse "under the sun" from Ms Philipone. Our calls and text have fallen upon death ears with no reply. Now we are forced to file a lawsuit which is being served within the next five days. I beg you to please not deal with these folks at all. They lack integrity and will bullshit you to no end. I'm reporting them to the Attorney General in hopes that the state of New Jersey completely shuts them down for unwarranted practices in business. I honestly wish I could give 0 stars. I'm not sure if the people that work here are truly just incompetent or if they are looking to scam their customers or a combination of both. Please do not do business here. You would be better off going to the circus if you wanted this kind of treatment. Ordered a bedroom set in May, scheduled delivery for September, and then everything went downhill. First they scheduled the wrong delivery date. Then the wrong set was apparently delivered in the correct box to the warehouse. From there, the correct set apparently traveled all over the East coast and landed itself in PA - this bedroom was racking up those frequent flyer miles! It was on the trailer, off the trailer, in a warehouse, back on the road, maybe even on the moon? I don't know but I heard every story in the book. 5 stars for creativity I guess! They would be better suited in the entertainment industry in my opinion. Long story short, the bedroom never came. Each new delivery date came and went. I was asked "give me 3 more days" for 6 weeks straight. Absolutely absurd. Keep in mind they had my payment IN FULL this entire time. This store is completely untrustworthy and chaotic. I got my first apartment entirely furnished by this place , i bought three rooms of Broyhill , the fontana collection. Quality furniture built in America's furniture state North Carolina . 28 years later , i'm back . My experience with this store and new owner, Amy, has been quite unpleasant. I ordered a dining set here years ago and had a good experience but boy, has this place gone downhill since then! The store is kinda depressing with a 2nd floor that is downright scary. The furniture I ordered never came despite multiple promises that it will be delivered. Everytime I emailed, called or visited the store I am giving false promises of a delivery that never happened. I finally call the manufacturer after a year went by and was told that the order has not even been processed yet! Insane! Melray's is a scam artist, I had the same issue that everyone else is claiming that they had. After all the lies about where my furniture was, I just asked for a refund of my deposit. I was told they would refund to original payment, would take 5-7 days, I am still waiting and went back for proof for the return and they said they never give receipts for returns and I find that highly suspicious. We ordered our table in early December. I placed the order over the phone with the male salesman who works there's. The estimated arrival was 4-6 weeks. At 6 weeks I still hadn't received a call to schedule my delivery so I called the store , who told me the delivery side wasn't in at the time and they would leave a message for someone to call me back. They did not call me back so I called again and this happened a second and third time. Finally I received a call from the woman , Amy, who scheduled my delivery for last week in January. In the morning of the delivery date I received a text that they opened my package and the table was damaged (attached with a small picture of the corner of the table with scratches) and asked if I would still like the table if they gave me back $250 for the inconvenience and have one delivered to the store and me within a week. A week passed and she kept telling me it hadn't arrived cause the delivery was rescheduled . 2 weeks from original delivery date she scheduled for the new table to come that week. The morning of delivery I received yet another text explaining that the table did not arive . Once she said the table arrived she set up another delivery date in which she said she and the other salesman Allan where going to deliver it themselves but he got hurt (therefore stating they have access to the table). It went on for another 6 weeks of setting up delivery dates and excuse after excuse of why it wasn't coming on the morning of. She kept telling me she sent my refund but I never received it. She then personally dropped off a check from their store that bounced . My husband went down to the store and she gave him the money in cash and said the table was coming today 3/19/24. She then texted again saying she's done all she could to get us the table and she was deciding to give us our money back and not give us our table because it's been crazy for her . She dropped off the remaining cash that night . Although in previous weeks "she was planning to deliver the table herself ". When paying for the table over the phone they told me I would receive the charge from a "mills bakery " because their machine was down. This is a complete scam and I wish I came and read these reviews prior to purchasing but my family has received furniture from this store and therefore I trusted it would be smooth. I ordered a couch in October, 2024 and paid in cash. I was told it would take 6-8 weeks for delivery. Every time my delivery was scheduled (5) times, I received a call from Amy with one excuse after another on why the delivery was cancelled. This went on for 4 months. I had finally had enough of the run around and demanded my money back. I truly believe that the couch was never even made and instead of being forthright, I was given the run around. Therefore, we had no choice but to dispute the charge on our credit card even though it's still not the full amount We can't express our extreme disappointment we experienced throughout this entire ordeal. Not only are we out a significant amount of money, but we also suspect you sold us furniture directly from the showroom without disclosure. If I could give no stars, I would. This was the most horrible furniture experience I've ever had. I left feeling like it was a big scam. They took my order last Feb said it would be delivered in May, then said it came broken, then it will come in August so I waited it out, then it was more games; the whole warehouse had COVID the day it was going to be delivered, the next delivery date was canceled for a family emergency, then they couldn't deliver it because it was also broken, then it was on a truck from a place 5 hours away but still no update for 2 weeks. I finally said enough after 8 months and canceled it. We then had to get Amex involved to fight and get our money back. Melrays provided falsified manufacture purchase orders and shipping documentation. After some investigation we learned the manufacturer pulled the franchise from Melrays and had no record of any order going back 2 years which predated my deposit. We ultimately went to the store, confronted them with the truth and was given a refund in the form of a check which surprisingly cleared. This USED TO BE a reputable business. I have furniture from here as recent as 5 years ago and my family has shopped here for generations. However, don't be fooled by the success of their past like I was. It seems that ever since Amy (original owner's daughter) took over the business, it has gone downhill. It is now criminal. I ordered a bedroom set for my 2 year old son on August 28, 2023 and put down a $1400 deposit. The estimated arrival was for October or November. It never came. Then, we had a set delivery date of Dec 19, then Dec 29, then Jan 4 and so on. Every week we got a new excuse. We got everything from "weather delays" to "family emergency" even to "the owner of the warehouse died and his children won't release the furniture". I believed them all because I had worked with Melrays in the past and knew them to be an honest business. After waiting 6 months and still no furniture, I started to get suspicious. I read the other similar stories on various online platforms and realized that our furniture was likely never coming. My 2 year old has been sleeping on a mattress on the floor for 6 months because they didn't deliver. Amy pretended to care every step of the way, offering cheaper sets that she had in stock that we could keep "until our very nice and more expensive set was delivered". We asked for a refund and she told us she would give us a refund. However, we never saw the refund. She claims to have mailed us a receipt but we never got it. I ordered the same set elsewhere and was able to get it delivered in just 3 weeks time. DO NOT FALL for their history like I did. They are no longer a reputable business. read more

I placed my nursery furniture + glider and ottoman order on February 13th 2018! My furniture didn't come until May 1st and my glider and ottoman came on May 25th, AND EVEN AFTER THAT MUCH TIME GLIDER WAS A WRONG COLOR!!!! This place has been in North Arlington for years and it's essential to have a furniture store like this in a small town where I lived in for a majority of my life and one thing that I dislike with the blue laws in Bergen County it's of course closed on Sundays. I ordered a sofa, one and a half chair with an ottoman and was told they would store it for me until I was ready. Over the next year I added a queen size bed, a firm 16 inch mattress, a daybed and a twin size mattress to the order. When it came time for delivery - there was a problem. Amy showed up at my house and explained that somehow water had seeped into the furniture and it was all damaged. When the furniture was delivered we received the WRONG daybed with the correct twin mattress and the queen sized bed with the WRONG mattress. The mattress is 6 inches high with water stains on the bottom of it. About a month later we received the living room furniture minus the ottoman. I would not recommend anyone shopping there. If DO receive furniture, it won't be for months or even years...and there's a huge chance it's incorrect, a knock-off, a floor model, or damaged, and they'll make little to no effort to correct the situation. They'll pretty much consider it "your problem" if they give you the complete wrong item. I came to this store due to the 2 positive reviews to check out some furniture and perhaps mattresses. Street parking by the way, neighborhood nearby has some parking, but main street is metered parking. Like everyone said, this place is EXTREMELY huge... I didn't get a chance to explore the whole place for 1 reason, listed below.. So I walked into the store, the store wasn't bright, not a problem. The store is pretty much dead, there are no customers around, but there are 4 employees ( I think they are employees) Sitting and standing around the register chatting and laughing about stuff. So I walked a bit closer... expecting some sort of greeting..nothing. It was pretty awkward, so I Initiated by saying "How are you guys", ONE out of four people looked at me, and nodded her head. The other three ignored my existence. They continued to talk. So I walked around the store for like 10 seconds and left. Pretty terrible customer service for retail store, especially in the furniture / mattress business. No "How are you doing" or "Looking for something" or "Can I help you?" Zero starts would be more accurate! I ordered a bedroom dresser, mirror, night stand, and leather sofa from Melrays in March 2022. I was told the bedroom set was expected in July and the couch early September delivery. I received the couch October 24, 2022. That same day a bedroom set was delivered and it was not the set I ordered. I immediately called Amy at Melrays. She said to keep the set as a loaner and she would fix the problem. Then came the series of lies, excuses and series of unbelievable events. First I was told the furniture was lost in the warehouse. Waited two weeks to hear back they could not find it. Then another week they found it and it was so damaged. They said they would order again and have it to me in two weeks. Then came two more days, two more weeks, excuses, lies and lack of communication. This week I was told the furniture would be coming and I arranged for someone to be at my home (I knew from three other missed delivery times and waited windows not to take off from my job again). I got a call that morning that once again there was a problem. At that point I said cancel the order and come pick up the loaner set. It took two days and several requests to get my credit back on my account. Now I have to start the process again of looking for furniture. It is shame since back in the day this was the best place around to get furniture. Now it is unorganized and outdated in their management as well as customer service. Ordered a bedroom set on April 26th. They collected 50% deposit. Written on the order was an approximate 8-10 weeks delivery timeframe. I was willing to wait. Fast forward to August, I called multiple times, told product is arriving next week, then another week, then another week. Called multiple times in September, same story. October 17th still no furniture or communication from the store. My fiancé called the manufacturer today and was told Melray's hadn't placed an order with them since 2021!!!! So basically they held my money for almost 6 months and never ordered the product! Mind you, the product is available and can be shipped immediately from the manufacturer from a new warehouse of theirs in Virginia. I called Melray's today to cancel the order, person on the other end was extremely rude when I shared what the manufacturer told me..as if I was wrong!!! This is just an update on how bad this company is and how they lie to their customers. I told the gentleman who owns the warehouse that my furniture should've been at, that Amy stated she went to the warehouse and that my furniture was not unloaded yet. Meanwhile, he stated that she was never there, that my item was not received, and that he gets this a lot from Melray's customers. So today I called Amy and I told her that I spoke to the gentleman at the warehouse and I told her exactly what the gentleman said. Amy tried to cover up and said it was another warehouse that she went to that had my furniture and that she took a picture of my sectional while she was there but when i asked for her to send me the picture she refused. So I did a second follow-up and called craftmaster and spoke to them, they explained they can't give too much info but what they could say is that the sectional was not shipped, was nowhere ready to ship out, and wasn't even paid for by Melray's yet. I was also told that they get a lot of calls from Melray's customers complaining about the same situation as well. The only way that I found any of this information out was by doing my own research and contacting everyone. If I trusted Amy saying my furniture was there who knows what would have happened (especially since I was told they didn't pay for it yet but had my money). Melray's has been in my hometown for decades but I never gave them a chance before. My mistake. The service from Tim and Amy was outstanding. I am a demanding customer, having been in customer service for 30 years, and the team here gives only customer satisfaction. You need a great sales professional like Tim to help you realize all they offer beyond what is in their showrooms. Tim guided me to make sure I bought real furniture well priced and smoothly steered me away from MDF and cheaply constructed pieces; most anything you want can be ordered. I went in to find a home office desk and left with 7 pieces for 3 rooms and more to be ordered. I'm done wasting my time with high priced, middling quality Restoration Hardware, Arhaus and Pottery Barn. Melray's offers better made goods and personal service not from a script. The owners cared so much about a great customer experience they were personally involved in delivering my furniture because of an exceptional situation and to ensure I had a sofa on move in day. The quality of our new sofa is outstanding and the fabric we choose ( with the help of our decorator) is beautiful.
