I have very mixed feelings about my experience with MelroseMac--because ultimately, I got what I wanted (data recovery). They were successful. But it was an incredibly stressful experience. I really liked the Melrose Avenue storefront atmosphere and didn't have to wait very long to see someone at the counter. I explained what I needed for my MacBook laptop and it appeared to be no problem. I gave them my existing backup drive and told them they could just delete any old backups to make room on it if they needed to. I asked how long it would take, and the counter rep said, "Eh, 2/3 days. Maybe tomorrow." That was on August 23, 2021. I just got my data recovery back today, October 6. On August 26, I called to check status. They said he's working on it. On August 27, I called to check status. They said he's working on it. I asked if they could check and see exactly what's happening, and they called me back to say the technician was still working on it and they didn't know if he would get to it that day or the following Monday but they would reach out when it was completed. On August 31, they called to tell me my backup drive was full and asked if I would authorize the purchase of a new one from them. I said yes, and I waited. On September 2, I called to check status and they said he's working on it. I begged them for more information, telling them that it had been 8 days. I was on the verge of tears on the phone, and they just said they'd call if there was a problem. On September 3 before the Labor Day holiday weekend, I went into the store and asked to talk to a manager. Fortunately, the manager was right there (I think her name was Veronica?), so I was able to tell her that I was just looking for a straight answer as to what was going on with my computer, as it was Day 9 at that point. She looked up my account and told me that the data recovery job was beyond their capabilities at that location but that they could transfer it to their Burbank location if I authorized them to do so and paid $100 deposit. I gave them the go-ahead and paid the deposit, but the manager advised me that their transport wouldn't be able to bring my laptop to Burbank until the following Tuesday, September 7 and that it would take Burbank at least 3-4 weeks just for diagnostics. I'll write a separate review for my experience with the Burbank location as my Melrose location experience pretty much ended there (other than confirming by phone on Sept 9 that the laptop had indeed been transferred to Burbank). But here are some final thoughts. I went to MelroseMac because it was an authorized Mac repair shop, but the whole process felt shady like I went to some back alley computer repair place. I think they need to work on managing expectations much better -- had I known how long it was going to take (and how much money it ended up being in the end), I might've taken it elsewhere or tried to sled the hard drive myself. I get the impression that every time they told me the service tech was working on it, he wasn't really working on it -- and that just ramped up my anxiety. I also don't 100% trust that the data recovery actually WAS that complicated or required as much money as I ended up paying. But because it feels like I was lied to -- and definitely kept in the dark -- they never really earned my trust in the first place. I wonder how long it would've taken them to call me with the update I got when I walked into the store in person. When were they planning to tell me they needed to transfer to Burbank? So much for calling if there was a problem. If time isn't important, and you don't suffer from anxiety, MelroseMac is probably OK. I'd already done an online support session directly with Apple and had taken my laptop to the Genius Bar, so I felt like I'd exhausted my other options. And I am happy with the final result. But it's been a rollercoaster ride and over 6 weeks of misery (and A LOT of money). read more

Went in to get one key replaced on my keyboard because I need it for work. I was told they don't provide that service and would need to replace my whole keyboard which would take a whole week. !!!!!!RIP OFF WARNING!!!!! I've been coming here for years.... Staffs are very very nice... They earned the star BUT!!!! If you wanna get your mac fixed don't even think about coming here !!! Here's the story! My iMac couldn't boot up and looked like hard drive is corrupted so I brought it in.... First, they charge $75 for diagnostic ( which I dont mind but FYI "An actual apple doesn't even charge you!" ) Then the next day they called me and told me that hard drive is corrupted need a replacement... - 1tb hard drive cost $140 - $16 for mounting!!!? Seriously!?? - $40 for thermal sensor cable.... - plus tax - labor $175 Total $466 without tax.... Moreover, I ask them about backing up.... They have to do another diagnostic which now $100 the on if I decide to do the back up it starting from$150!! Once again!!! APPLE STORE DOES NOT EVEN CHARGE YOU FOR THAT.... THEY BACK UP YOUR DATA FOR FREE!!!!!!! So total comes up to $696 ...... Next day I went to apple store and pay $198 and everything is taken care of. A high end shop that services creative professionals. If you go into an Apple store, they will have every version of Macbook Air and iPad available but if you try to buy a high end MacBook Pro with say 64 GB of RAM, you will half to wait for them to build and ship it to you from China. With Apple quoting me a six week lead time on a 16 core Mac Pro, Melrose Mac was able to deliver it the same day. I anticipate years of business with these guys. Thanks Christian and Brice! UPDATE: Christian told me that I could trade the glossy display in for a matte version. He emailed telling me his boss said not without a 15% restocking fee IE $1000. I wrote a response asking them to reconsider and I heard nothing back. After following up 3x, I decided to bring this to yelp. I spent $18,000 on a Mac Pro + Pro Display XDR and they can't even give respond to an email. If they ever respond to me, I'll go back, but we will be using The Apple Business to outfit our production studio until then. Final Update: After reading the review, the sales manage called me saying they would take care of me. This was more than I actually expected as I was just looking for ANY response from Christian. I guess in the end, they took care of me. Started off as a 5/5 review, I think 4/5 is fair as I was ignored for about a month after spending close to $20k. Arrived at MelroseMAC in a panic after trying desperately to deal with a crippling storage issue on my MacBook Air. I fully expected to have to leave it for a diagnostic to untangle the mess I had made of things. Instead, I was lucky to find Peter at the repair counter; he listened to my sad story with patience and then -- incredibly --and in literally a matter of seconds, located the problem and fixed it. 451 podcasts that I had unwittingly downloaded had absorbed a huge portion of my storage capacity. Peter explained how to avoid that in future and also formatted an external hard drive that I couldn't get to work so I could do a much-needed back-up. A few days ago I was on my computer and having my coffee and I stepped away to take a call and when I came back I had a black screen and some rainbow lines in the corner of my MacBook pro laptop. I called apple support and they could not get it going for me, I tried to get an appt with the genius bar but they were none available until way later on in the day. I then found Melrose Mac. I got an appt right away. The store is beautiful, clean and all the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I got Jesse to help me, after literally a min he asked me " do you have a cat" I said yes and he said well there is your issue a cat bite in the corner, I have seen this before. I couldn't believe it. I have apple care and this store is a certified apple center. Since parts are coming from China and are hard to come by I knew it would be at least 2-3 weeks before getting my computer back so I bought a new one so I can now have 2 in case something like this happens again. Jesse helped me transfer all data from my broken computer to my new one. He was so patient and so helpful and I felt taken care of. This location is central and so easy to get to. I will never go anywhere else for any issues I will have. So thanks to Melrose Mac and to Jesse for helping me through a super stressful situation. read more

I rarely ever write a review. I don't see the point of constantly needing validation. That being said, I do see the point of recognition. Yesterday on July 11, 2023, I was between a rock and a hard place. I needed to get a new laptop of some sort, and I had a very specific budget, and I came down to the wire. Melrose Mac was my last stop. I will say this, because of Katie Jamison, who is a literal hero, Melrose Mac is forever going to be my IT, computer, tech store. Because of Katie, I was able to catch up on what appeared to be an instrumental amount of work. If you need anything involving computers, I absolutely recommend this location. They have everything you need, if they don't have it, they can get it, and the best part is that the people who work at this location genuinely care. I'm a boomer trying hard to keep up with tech updates. My MacBook stopped connecting to WiFi. Peter suggested updating from Firefox to Sonoma (yes I already said I'm trying to keep up with tech). I didn't have enough space on my hard drive, so Peter showed me how to delete apps and then suggested I transfer my photo libraries to a hard drive, sold me the hard drive, and showed me how to transfer the files. An hour and a half later, we checked to make sure photos had transferred, and started the Sonoma update. I wasn't able to wait, so I left my Mac returned for it, all installed, connected to WiFi, and ready to go. The store was immaculate and every staff member was polite. I was blown away by how pleasant and easy Peter made this process, and i noticed while I was waiting that other clients were getting the same great service. I can't say enough good things about MelroseMac and their staff. After downloading the latest update, macOS Big Sur, my MacBook Pro gave me a notification about my battery needing service, so Apple sent me to MelroseMac. I dropped off my laptop at MelroseMac on January 9th for a battery replacement. They told me it would take 2-3 weeks to get it fixed, or I could pick up my laptop while they waited for the battery to come in. I decided to leave it there. On January 18th, I got a call from them to let me know my laptop was ready for pick-up. When I picked up my laptop, not only had they replaced my battery, they gave me a completely new keyboard. I could not believe it. Previously, I had issues with the keyboard, but Apple products are expensive to fix and I was already out of warranty, so I did not even mention any keyboard issues to anyone. Well, I'm not sure what program my laptop fell under with Apple recalls or something, but MelroseMac not only replaced my battery, and keyboard, but they did not charge me a single dime. UNBELIEVABLE. I really hope their business grows and grows, businesses like this could charge for those services, even a handling or storage fee or anything, but they did not. They are an HONEST business, and I am so grateful for small businesses like this that help out the community. I can't say enough good things about the support I received from Pete and Jesse at Melrose MAC. I brought in two of my students laptops that needed repairs and they were very honest and straight forward about what repairs they could and could not provide. One of the laptops was too old so they referred me to another company. The other laptop they let me drop off and they reset it to see if that solved the issue. They probably spent two hours with me and didn't charge a dime. I'm so grateful for that kind of customer service and care. They let me know one laptop wasn't worth repairing and where I could go to get a used one for less than what the repairs would cost. I was having computer issues and ended up coming here instead of the Apple store because they had the soonest available appointment. However, when I got there, I realized the diagnostic test would take 3 days, so the help I needed wouldn't be immediate anyway. Moreover, I had already googled and troubleshooted (troubleshot?) all I could with my computer, so I feel like I generally understood what the issue was already, and I really just wanted to know if there was any way I could still salvage any of the files on my laptop. However, I feel like the only way I could get anyone to assess anything about my computer was to pay $75 for the diagnostic test, because the person at the counter basically just wants to get through the people waiting to be seen so their team can look at the computers on their own time. I was not provided with any insight on what could be going on on the spot unless I asked specific questions, and my device was hardly touched beyond being turned on and stripped of its case. I tried to explain what had happened, but I felt like my explanations were not being engaged with because, again, they just wanted to take it in for their team to look at, which is frustrating because it means you can't really explain directly to the people performing the diagnostic test what you have/haven't already done to fix the issue, or what the issue even is. As a result, I waited 3 days and paid $75 for an email hinting that *I* had been the one to wipe my hard drive / attempt to wipe my hard drive, which is obviously not true and could have easily been clarified with a simple in-person conversation that could have taken 15 minutes, not 3 days. They also couldn't tell me if my files were recoverable and only sent me the link to another organization that specialized in that work, which again, does not take 3 days to do. I don't want to blame any of the workers, because the customer service itself wasn't the issue, and I imagine building a business off of troubleshooting problems with computers & phones makes for a very emotional and frustrated clientele, so I didn't want to be a problem customer and make a huge deal out of everything -- but at the end of the day, I don't think their process was best for me and what I needed, and I wish I had known that before I wasted $75. Based on my experience, if you have a simple question or a quick issue you just want to talk through with someone, you'll want to go somewhere else. read more

My experience there yesterday with Rochelle was likely the best I've had at any MAC/APPLE store since I moved to Los Angeles in 1989. She was kind, resourceful, funny, patient, informed and off-the-charts helpful. So much so that I've decided to buy a desktop computer there just so I can be more a part of the Melrose Mac family. Absolute best customer service experience! I came in because my speaker on my phone was struggling. It's been so tough to fix phones over Covid and it can really hinder your entire life.... talk about an essential business. It is impossible to get an appointment at an Apple Store and we all know when you do that it is an absolute zoo. Not here , here it was the greatest experience. These guys are terrible. I come in for a common phone screen repair and Jesse tosses out an arbitrary number $200 with a blank stare waiting for me to be shocked without even asking me the model first. I said I think he's wrong and he looks it up and says I'm right - $129. As he was looking that up he tried to encourage me to just replace the whole phone. As if the new $500 iPhone can be replaced for less than $200. Does he want my money or not? The Apple server for verification is down so I come back a day later and Jorge helps me. Jorge sets me up for a repair and orders the part - or so I'm told. Tells me they'll call the following Monday or a Tuesday. He calls me Tuesday saying I actually needed to pay up front and they actually needed to keep the phone while we wait for the part which was never ordered 4 days prior. New manager rules. So they apparently have a breakdown in stocking common parts, store policy, staff communication, and customer service. Don't make stuff up and certainly don't lie to your customers when they could have made more efficient arrangements like Jesse apparently wanted from day one. Well he got his wish. Simply put- I come in for a keyboard repair, and after waiting 25 minutes, get helped by a cold female employee who tells me my laptop will likely be erased (incorrect), compels me to take off my protective case and then doesn't even look at my laptop, and then tells me I may have to wait several weeks for parts to come in while they hold the laptop. What about the apple store, I ask her. A nicer guy speaks up and tells me that the apple store can hold parts for you, and is more likely to have them in stock. What he didn't say, was that when you set an appointment with them, they won't make you wait close to 30 minutes, and will look at the laptop right then and there. This store has a seriously flawed procedure, and I'd only recommend it if you need a repair done that apple won't do. It likely will cost you more money and much more time. And who can afford to be without a laptop for 2-3 weeks?? I'm pretty disappointed. In myself for taking my business there to save a trip to the apple store. 2 stars for the general decency of the 2 employees who were not helping me, minus 3 stars for the cold and unhelpful employee and the crappy as hell policy of holding your laptop while they order parts and trying to upsell you on things like a backup. read more

I had to come here about 2 months ago. I had to come here because none of the Apple Stores were open due to covid. This was unfortunately the closest one that had available appointments, and it was over 30 miles away from me. The employees are pretty unpleasant, they act like robots and are not personable at all. It took 2 weeks just to replace the battery on my MacBook Air which is insane. The price was decent, but it really took a long time. Also, they make you wait outside for a long time even when you have an appointment. Are you guys overbooking or what? Because I had an appointment and still had to wait almost an hour outside. At the minimum, you can give people an accurate appointment time. Why make me come at a certain time if you won't let me in for another hour? Standing outside in unpleasant weather. Then when you come inside the customer service is very poor. Everyone working here seems depressed(I feel bad for you guys.) The parking situation is horrible. Some of the parking meters nearby straight up do not work, and I got a parking ticket regardless(cmon LA fix your meters!!) I really wish they had their own parking lot. 2 stars because my computer was fixed, but it did take a couple weeks which is super inconvenient, considering all it needed was to replace the battery of my MacBook Air.
