Not great at all. Better places to try so let me save you the trip and some $. Tried each type of food (nice, small menu which I really like) and honestly nothing blew me away. Nothing I would crave, want to go back for, or really enjoyed at the time. Everything had an awkward sweetness. I can only liken the flavor to what you might taste if you bit into a piece of fruit past it's prime - a kind of sour sweetness. It wasn't BAD, but it took me a WHILE to try and finish it. And I definitely had some weird stomach reactions after (TMI) lol! It's a fine experience if you're into hunting out Food Network features spots, but for boasting a Food Network level chef, I was surprised to find that I would not go back. If you're into trying local Food-Network-featured places, sure, try it at your own risk. Bring your own drink; they only have hipster, pricey beverages. I honestly don't understand why more people aren't taking issue with the way this place is run. Exorbitant pricing. Over $20 just for a burger and fries order if you don't go through on a $12 special. The meat was paltry, and the fries tasted freezer-bag quality. On top of that, they don't even spare you a drink of tap water. You're scammed into paying for "boxed water" even as a paying customer if you forget to bring your own. Hydration shouldn't be a privilege for patrons; this seriously needs to be redressed. The only reason that I'm adding a second star is because I appreciate the kids' zone they have set up. Where do I start... had an amazing dinner at Mel's tonight. Hubby had the rib eye cheesesteak I had the 10 West Burger we also shared the mozzarella sticks. All our food was fresh and delish!! The burger and cheesesteak were both cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Both were served with fresh homemade potato chips they were so yummy. The mozzarella sticks were HUGE and had the awesome cheese pull. Fun atmosphere and the staff was very nice and engaging. We had the pleasure of speaking with Gina who was so kind and welcoming. I had told her we saw Mel's on social media and had to take the 30min ride to check them out. We were so happy we did! I shared with Gina it was my hubby's birthday, she gave him a chocolate chip cookie to celebrate!! The cookie was HUGE, fresh and delicious. A perfect ending to our perfect meal at Mel's!! 5 stars bcuz were no misses on my 1st visit to MBB. The space is clean homey chic relaxed & fun all at the same time. Sonny boy had the 10 West burger with bacon jam on English Muffin I could see the yummy juices dripping over the homemade pot chips which he insisted I try- best homemade chips I've ever had not really a fan of the homemade chip but these were fantastic especially with added flavor of the burger juice. I had the salad with skirt steak perfectly seasoned & grilled the salad was not overlooked the fresh chickpeas were a great addition salad greens had a nice chilled freshness, thought I wld save 1/2 for lunch tmrw but I could not stop eating it. The sweet potato fries were melt in your mouth creamy on the inside & perfectly crispy on the outside without a hint of oiliness not done yet tho-- we brought home a choc chip cookie & an oreo rice Krispie treat both were fresh & delicious but that cookie is something special I will be thinking of that amazingly satisfying spectacular treat for some time. Sonny Boy was eyes rolling in the back of his head impressed with that cookie freaking delicious! Food was freshly & expertly prepared top quality eats served by friendly & attentive staff. The three stars is the rating for the entire experience of having lunch at Mel's. I got a cheeseburger, onion rings, and a soda. If I was to rate just the food it would get five stars. The burger was nice-sized and very tasty, and the rings were terrific. However while I will be back, it won't be nearly as often as it could be. Why? Burger at $14, onion rings at $9, and a half-sized (8 oz.?) bottle of soda is $3. With tax and gratuity it is over $30. This is a lunch that is my go-to; I have it all the time at different restaurants throughout NY and NJ, and nowhere does it cost nearly this amount. I know the burger is made with the best cuts of meat, and quite frankly I can rationalize its price, but the cost of the rings and especially the drink takes it out into space. I attended an 18-birthday party at Mel's and they handled it wonderfully! Boy the location and the physical layout (inside/outside) were ideal for a summer get together. I though the food met my expectations, but I admit, I don't eat burgers. Nice that they had many other things on the menu including a pulled chicken sandwich served in a baguette ( great!) and a crispy chicken sandwich ( not as good as the pulled chicken sandwich). Those were also the best pretzels I've ever had. The absolute best part was the customer service. The staff was accommodating to our needs, patient, friendly, and did all they could to make sure the guests had a nice time. I'll return when I'm in Tenafly again! read more

Based on past reviews, my friends and I tried Mel's (a woman-owned business) and were not disappointed. Everything (mozzarella sticks, sliders, burgers, homemade potato chips, sweet potato fries and chocolate chip cookies) were DEE-LI-CIOUS! And, for us, who appreciated Motown music, that topped the scale of our visit. We will be back to try some of Mel's other goodies, like her ribeye cheese steak and chicken sandwiches! read more

In great anticipation I anxiously waited to taste the burger from Mel's Butcher Box. I heard from a family member that it was amazing! Twenty minutes after opening they already had a full house for the lunch crowd. A very good sign! We looked over the menu and decided on the Mel's double and the ribeye cheese steak. Doreen helped us with our order and gave us a buzzer to alert us when our food was ready. The owner was buzzing around interacting with patrons and taking selfies. The interior was pleasing to the eye and very clean. But due to the crowd we decided to eat curbside. After we found a table outside which was very sticky by the way, but was sanitized by the wipes that you need gloves to handle. The buzzer alerted me at the food was ready approximately 15 to 20 minutes after ordering. I went inside to retrieve our lunch and I must say the arrangement look pleasing to the eyes. My first bite it was a whole lot of flavor mixed in with a hint of cheese and onions but very very dry. I prefer my burgers medium well and very juicy, this burger was neither. The bread was too much and the cheesesteak was identical to the Burger. The chips that comes with each sandwich (so you do not need to order fries) is an excellent touch and I enjoyed them more than the fries. This will not be my last time here, I will try to order to my preference and see what the results will be. The milkshake was good it tasted just like vanilla ice cream with whipped cream on it which is very pleasing for me. I would definitely recommend that you experience this place for yourself. Note I'm assuming the burgers are all well done unless you order otherwise so keep that in mind. They come with chips on the side, enough of which you don't need to order fries. After driving over an hour from Dutchess County New York and spending over $65 I am inclined to give this place three stars because of all the efforts I went through and disappointments I experienced. However I do see the potential and the experience was wonderful and I shall return. Till we meet again! read more

Heard about this place a while ago and it popped up on DoorDash tonight so I jumped on the chance to order. All I can say is YUM! I got the prime rib sandwich with sautéed onions added. The horseradish sauce is incredible (ordering extra next time). The big mozz sticks were huge! They were not traditional stringy stretchy cheese, it is more of a smooth creamy heavenly cheese. A little strong on the pricing and I asked for onions on the burger that they charged $1.00 extra for. With the pricing they should have not charged for the onions I think. Besides that If I were back in the area I'd probably go back but I live on the other side of the county so there are many other choices in between with more fair prices. Excellent little place right across from the railroad station. Outdoor seating, nice and clean, good, quick service. Had the cheesesteak that was excellent, served on a nice, toasted baguette type bread with American cheese, perfectly melted, onions and some type of aioli, meat was delicious and tender, had sweat potato fries and they were also great, nice and crispy.
