It had this loungey vibe with gold and dark blue tones and selective dimming that gave an upscale yet inviting and friendly vibe. Nice large bar with screens of sports and news for patrons and good music. I'm for it. II. FOOD (5/5) Yo this place ain't joking. Hard to find fresh veggies, but they had some. Peach and Strawberry Sweet Tea were great, though definitely sweet. Peach was slightly more refreshing for what was to come. Cornbread (APP, $9, 5/5) - Some of the best cornbread all around. Big but moist with decent crumbling, and so good with homemade strawberry jam. Cornerstone of the meal here. It's BIG so you can definitely share. Somehow it was even better the next day(?!) Sweet T's Fried Shrimp (APP, $19, 5/5) - Perfectly breaded and fried golden brown without being too heavy, this one was surprisingly delicious with the dips. Very good reco from our server. Fresh Baby Kale, Pear, and Goat Cheese Salad (APP, $14, 4/5) - Very much needed some sprinkling of greens. Pretty good though portion could be a bit larger. Catfish Nuggets (APP, $16, 3/5) - This one we didn't care too much for. Bit salty, one-dimensional. Stone Ground Cheddar Cheese Grits (APP, $10, 5/5) - ROCKET SHIP! This was literally the BEST GRITS I've ever eaten, and I've eaten enough to fill a bath tub! Wow! It had the perfect level of buttery, robust deep cheddar flavor with bits of crispy bites within, creamy smooth texture, right level of seasoning, and crazy level of addictiveness. I found myself rationing it with every other item on the table. WHAT?! I could write an essay on this one but it is ridiculously good I would come back again and again just to eat this. Grits done well, y'all. Grits done well living his best life, right here. Just writing about it makes me drool. III. SERVICE (5/5) I forgot about service because I was writing about 'em grits but our server lady was pleasant, made great recos, and took our money. So she was good! The few times I've been here, the food has been consistently good. This was first time having catfish and grits at this restaurant. I was a little skeptical because there's no gravy. After I tasted my meal I realized it definitely didn't need gravy. The grits were creamy and the fish was golden and crispy. My sister had the yams, mac and cheese and fish. Everything was delish. Finally made it to Sweet T's for a date night with Hubby. We made a reservation on a Sunday evening. The area in Teaneck where the restaurant is located has a free shoppers parking lot nearby. One we entered we were hit with very loud music to the point where the host could not hear me and kept telling me he didnt see our reservation. Finally i spotted our name and off to our table we went. The restaurant is small and was very packed. The staff definitely works hard maneuvering around the restaurant and serving guest. We did realize that our reservation time was in the middle of their Sunday single and mingle event which was why the DJ was present and the music was louder than the normal. When the event wrapped and the DJ left i think it turned much more pleasant in the dining with overhead music playing and we were able to talk to one another. Our waitress Jade was so wonderful. She took our order and apologized for the wait time (we didnt mind) and treated us to complimentary shots which was nice of her. I love the tablet menus especially for those of us who can see the menu without glasses, the bright tablet with nice pics of the food and drinks is a nice touch. Now lets get to the food......OMG Amazing!!!!!!!!! Literally the best soulfood i have had at a restaurant in a very very long time. I had the catfish with Mac n cheese, Yams and Greens. Every bit of it was sooo flavorful. Perfectly seasoned!! I was in heaven! The portions are huge that we took food home. My husband had the fried chicken and i usually dont like the breast meat this chicken was not dry at all!!!!! They have a nice cocktail menu and they are perfectly crafted. Had a craving for Biscuits and Gravy, googled places in Bergen County and Sweet T's was on the list. In short...I'll be back! There's plenty on the menu that sounded really good so that will bring me back. Also, All Day Happy Hour! Maggie, the bartender, knows how to make a Margarita! The dining room and bar area are both very attractive with a lot of color and pictures. The staff was very welcoming and the place had a good buzz going on with plenty of diners and it was just after Noontime on a Friday. I did have the biscuit and gravy plus the fried deviled eggs off the bar menu. Really good and looking forward to being back at Sweet T's soon. When we arrived, we told the person in the front that it was our first time there. He said "welcome" and took us to our table. We opened the menus and they were iPads which was kind of fun. Mine was dead so we shared the one that worked. Then the wait began. No one came over to give us water, no one came over to help us order or give us recommendations. There were only 5 tables with people so it wasn't busy. The guy who greeted us and another guy were sitting down by the front door glued to their phones. This place is a vibe. It's great for dates, friends, family, etc. I love that they use ipads as menus. That made the experience so much easier. The food was delicious. The food and the Service was Great. My 1st time visiting this business. The food is Amazing everything I ordered was excellent. Especially the Deviled Eggs and the Collard Green Dip. Everything was Awesome. I do recommend the sodium needs to be cut down a bit. Also drain the Collard Greens a bit more before served... Do enjoy everything on the Menu. This job is located across the street from my job and I had been dying to try it once I saw the "Coming soon" signage. Southern comfort food is definitely not common in this area of Teaneck. I placed my order online and walked over to pick up my food. The hostess was kind and he asked me if I wanted a glass of water while I waited for my order to be brought out. I've never had that happen before and it was so kind. I waited less than 5 minutes. My friend and I tried their corn bread with strawberry butter, Mac and cheese and banana pudding. Everything was delicious! The corn bread was definitely the winner to me - buttery, not overly sweet! The Mac and cheese is give a 7/10 and the banana pudding 7/10 as well. I definitely want to try more of their menu but since I was at work I didn't want to get any fried or too large of an entree. I will be back soon to try more! The menu - well you don't eat southern food if you want "healthy" choices but certainly they offer salads and vegan choices. I'm apparently late to the party when it's comes to this NJ favorite. Sweet T's became famous for their delicious soul food at their Montclair location. They recently opened this location in Teaneck on February 1st. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners, a husband and wife duo who were both so pleasant. They spoke to me for about five minutes and gave me their suggestions on what to order and the wife even came over during the meal a few times to check in. They have a VERY extensive food menu. A few things that surprised me was that they have some breakfast items on the dinner menu and they had a few vegan options. Their mocktails menu was also very impressive (I think they're still working out their liquor license?). I'm used to seeing only 1-2 mocktails when I go to a restaurant, but they had several, mostly sweet teas (get it, SWEET T) and lemonades. For my meal I ordered the fried catfish entree which came with two sides. I ordered the mac and cheese and collard greens. I really wish I could've ordered the corn bread as a side but unfortunately it only comes as an appetizer (I though that was a little silly since it's the same price as a side but it's okay). My friend who was with me ordered the beef short rib, mac n cheese and potato salad. Everything we had was incredible, but the catfish was rally the star of the show and the corn bread with strawberry butter really blew me away. This cornbread was just the right amount of sweet and that strawberry butter was *chefs kiss* . I liked that the cornbread wasn't overly buttered or greasy. The restaurant markets itself as "healthy soul food". While I wouldn't go that far to say it's "healthy soul food, I do think they have nice variety and healthful options (it helps that they don't cook their food in pork too). At the end of the dinner, they gave us to-go containers for our leftovers (plan in advance. You will probably be taking leftovers. They do NOT skimp on portions, unlike so many soul food places these days). Overall, my experience was a 5/5. The food is exceptional, the portions are generous and the service was very attentive and friendly as well. A few things to note: 1. This location is cashless so they only accept debit and credit card. 2. Gratuity is automatically included at 20%! They will highlight this on the bill but it'd probably be better if they let you know up front. 3. The menu is entirely pork free, so you don't have to worry about your collard greens being cooked in ham or lard if you don't eat pork. Vegan options are available upon request too. read more

My husband and I were deciding to try a new spot and see if there were any dishes we wanted to incorporate for our Thanksgiving, to give us a break from cooking, while supporting a local business. My husband is from the South (SC) so we have a standard. We ordered and shared the following: the smothered chicken with a side of Mac n cheese, black eye peas, and a lemon Bundt slice. The smothered chicken was great. Spot on with flavor, texture and presentation. The Mac n cheese looked amazing and while the pasta was cooked well and the cheese was nicely melted, there was an extreme amount of salt. Not just flavored well but to the point we had to stop eating. The black eye peas were okay. They had the small pieces of turkey meat which was a nice touch of flavor. The lemon Bundt smelled great, was dense but too dry. I understand a sweet mixture that seemed to be butter based was intended for it but should not have to be eaten with every bite. I told him that I unfortunately have allergies to wheat and dairy and he went into the kitchen and came back with a full list of what I was able to eat. I ordered the Salmon cakes and collard greens with a baby Kale salad that had green apples, walnuts, cherry tomatoes and a lemon vinaigrette. The salmon cakes were delicious with a little fresh squeezed lemon and tartar sauce. Light and flaky, The collard greens were flavorful and not too salty which is so key. This was my first time to this location and I was super excited to try it out. From reading other reviews I was aware there were no alcohol options, however, it was byob. Upon arrival we were informed that we would have to wait to be seated. After about five minutes we were informed that the manager would have to be called regarding seating as my table is not ready. This was mind boggling as there several tables available at the time and I had a party of 3 (see pic below). We were later informed, after a talk with the manager, that we would have to wait for the table with a party of 10 to finish, and then the table would be cleared right away so we can be seated. This was confusing as had a reservation for a party was for three including a child. I asked the hostess if we can take one of the four tables available and she reported I could there and then move when my table was ready. I was flabbergasted and asked why. I inquired if it had something to do with the high chair request and she stated no. She stated there is a party of three coming soon, though they are late for there reservation. I inquired why the party with a reservation after me would be seated before me when I was standing right infront of her. I proceeded to inquire on why I can't be seated now and give the next reservation the table that would be cleared soon. We sat there and starred at each other for about 30 seconds. I honestly was about to leave because the math was not adding up. She then allowed up to sit at one of the four opened table. The were several items in the menu not available. This sometimes happens when restaurant newly opened. I wanted to try the salmon cakes but will try them next time. The cat fish and grits were delicious. The cat fish was seasoned to perfections and fried perfectly. The French toast was sweet, however, the ice cream toned down the sweetness and was the perfect combination. It is recommended to make a reservation. I went for brunch and was informed I could order off the regular menu after 12pm. 20 percent tip is included in the check which were were informed of when we received the check. This is a cashless establishment. Im hoping things get better at this location. The establishment is clean with a cute vibe. I am going to get FAT. I cannot believe Sweet T's opened so close to my BFF's house. We are in trouble. We visited the Montclair location about a month ago and we kept talking about how good the food was and how we would return soon. And then BOOM, they opened a location in Teaneck! Woohoo If you haven't tried this place, give them a chance. They just opened and their food seems very authentic, and it's delicious. The place has a great vibe for everyone. Probably some of the best soul food I've had in a long time. Place is small but intimate with nice decor and southern hospitality feeling. I was looking forward to this spot because everything looked so good. Unfortunately it was a complete miss for me. Ambiance is nice, customer service is great, but the food is salty and bland. I showed up about 12 mins after I received my pickup text, and I drove another 12-13 back. By the time I got home, all my food was soggy. Short rib grilled cheese, chicken wings = soggy, salty and very bland. I thought the short rib would be the star of this meal- it was tender but flavorless. Potato wedges were cut into quarters, so they were large and poorly seasoned. Sauces were boring and did nothing to amp up the food. The Mac and cheese was the saving grace- not overly salted, perfect crust. It came with one of the meals, but a side is $12. Not worth it. I should have known the meals would be bad when I spotted a hair at the bottom of the bag. Luckily, I carefully checked all the food and sauces, and there was no hair. One of the owners responded to a Google Review that the "quality matched the prices". That's a bold statement to be making since the quality of the food was very poor. I really wanted to love this place as it's a new, local spot. But I didn't. First the bartender started plugging happy hour, when happy hour was over. The service was not great. We had one drink and spent a lot of time trying to wave down the bartender for the check. My friend and I just got the salmon bites; nothing special. They were on the happy hour menu for $5, and the bar menu for $10. Somehow the bartender assumed we wanted a $20 portion; which we didn't even see on the menu. Reader, this appetizer was more expensive than most of the entrees. There was a bit of back and forth about it when we got our check where she asked us if we wanted to have this reduced on our check. How is this even a question? If we didn't why would we bring it up? Meanwhile, the owner was right next to her and didn't bother to get involved. This after diving into the history of the restaurant and the one in Montclair. Classic leadershit. Apart from that, the fluorescent lighting beaming from the kitchen made the whole place feel like a medical office. The only thing I liked about this restaurant was the music. The mac n cheese was very good, it's a gooey type not creamy but very good. The short rib grilled cheese tasted more like they put pulled pork on it, it was very sweet so I didn't enjoy that too much there wasn't a lot of cheese on it, it was more pulled pork. The delivery service they sent was a bit of a challenge because the delivery person didn't speak a word of English, he kept showing me his portable cash credit card register and since I never ordered from a DoorDash or GrubHub before although he had my credit card on file it was very confusing. I had to go in and out of the house get a credit card and again it was very challenging not to have someone that spoke English especially since I was a first time customer for whatever delivery service they use, it was odd for me because I have food delivered at least once a week at I never even go to the door I have a table set up out front that says please leave food here and I do know I had a credit card on file so that was annoying. read more

Yay! I don't need to go to Montclair! For this anyway. As expected, I had a wonderful time at Sweet T's. The food was delicious. They ran out of Sweet tea, so I ordered the lychee martini. I'm assuming they used dry vermouth in there because I hated it. I would have ordered something else if 4 sips hadn't already gotten to my head. The fried okra was greatly improved with the aioli; otherwise, it would have been bland. I don't know why I was disappointed with the corn bread, even the strawberry butter wasn't doing anything for me. I'm going to blame it on the terribly dry martini for throwing off my palete. The fried chicken was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. I like that it didn't taste salty. My mom wont throw out my leftovers and then lecture me on sodium and HTN. The mac n' cheese was delicious as always. I got the vegan collard greens and it was far better than the one with turkey. Even my friend who has never met a collard green that she liked was converted. I did not like the peach "cobbler" to go. It was just puff pastry and a bunch of peaches on top.
