My all time fav spot for a classic bowl of pho. My kid loves it here and always ask for a side of extra noodle which is a great addition, not many places offer that. Food comes out quick and all at once. I hate when I'm sitting there waiting for others dishes while drooling into mines haha Cozy spot, not a bunch of tables, decent amount but I suggest making a reservation to be safe. They serve a plate of shrimp chips on the house rather than bread. Def oily but hey it's tasty chips. Everything was flavorful no need to add any hot sauce or even hoisin to the pho. That says a lot! What can I say about THE BEST Vietnamese restaurant that I have found in Jersey thus far. Don't let me enjoy all this deliciousness by myself, go try it. I met a few friends there for lunch and enjoyed their $15 lunch special and was blown away by how authentic and freaking delicious everything was. I grew up in Queens where I ate Vietnamese all the time and have been searching for the same quality ever since moving to Jersey. I finally found it!!! And the portions were huge. We all took food home. We've even done take out a few times and ventured further into their menu and were not disappointed. Street parking available but can get tricky. Not a lot of spots. Just had lunch with my wife. We've eaten here several times and keep coming back because the food is soooo good. I've worked extensively in Asia and the food here is authentic. We started with the Vietnamese summer rolls with duck. So fresh, the outside rice wrapping belies the crunchy and delicious interior which with its peanut sauce could be lunch on its own. My wife had the Basa fish dish in ginger sauce while I had the house noodles. As you can see from the pic's beautifully served. Atmosphere is nice while the service is friendly and efficient. My standards were a bit high for this restaurant due to the amount of good reviews. I was expecting food with bursts of flavors, but I got the exact opposite. We ordered: Summer roll with shrimp (4 pieces) $11 - 2/5 The presentation was beautiful but the rolls were BLAND. It was basically cold lettuce, plain noodles, carrots, cucumbers, and tiny pieces of shrimp wrapped in rice paper. The peanut sauce didn't do much for flavor enhancement. Spicy Saigon Chicken $19 - 3/5 This dish comes with string beans, bell peppers, and a cup of white rice sauteed in a chili sauce. There was a good portion of chicken and it was cooked well. My issue is that the sauce was SALTY! I couldn't taste any chili and it wasn't even mildly spicy. Garlic Chicken $19 - 2/5 The dish came with zucchinis and string beans sauteed in garlic sauce...... and it had absolutely no garlic flavor. Just another SALTY dish. The STARS of the show were the Thai Iced Tea ($5), Vietnamese Iced Coffee ($5), and the complimentary shrimp crackers with a spicy chili dip. Those were the most flavorful. Service was great, so no complaints there. The restaurant is small with a casual/laidback ambiance. Maybe I caught them on a bad day? I know they have a lunch special menu so maybe I'd give that a try and order something different. But based on this experience, I'm disappointed with the lack of seasoning. My partner and I stopped by for dinner and it wasn't very crowded. The service was quick and attentive: immediately after sitting, the staff brought out our waters and a bowl of shrimp chips. I ordered the Banh Mi Sliders, which was plated creatively-- basically your average pork banh mi cut into 4s instead of halves, with some pickled veggies on the side. It didn't really taste like an authentic banh mi, but it was still really tasty. The mayo and hoisin sauce gave it sweet and rich flavors. Unfortunately, the pork itself was quite dry / rubbery. It would've also been nice if they had more options for the banh mi protein filling, including vegetarian options. The bread also wasn't a traditional French baguette (it tasted sweeter and was soft and pillowy rather than crispier) but was nonetheless delicious and provided for a nice texture and flavor profile. Overall, the bread and sauces were the highlight of this dish. My partner ordered the Crispy Tofu entree, which was really good! Shadow of former establishment. Something has changed at this restaurant, Having visited a few years back and enjoying some real Pho, we decided to go again recently. Absolutely Not the same food. I should have seen the signs when our veg spring rolls were flat( like potstickers) , no lettuce, mint, cucumber. Dipping sauce was made of soy sauce instead of noc cham. Our Pho was extremely sweet and definitely not authentic , not served with traditional basil. Plus $19 a bowl. This restaurant is located in downtown Tenalfy in proximity to the train tracks with ample parking all around. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, which is perfect for days like today. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was very clean. As for the food, we were not as impressed. My dad and I split the Spicy Saigon Chicken, which was tender and came with a delicious sauce. My dad ordered the Meatball Pho and I ordered the Spicy Lemongrass Soup, which were both fairly bland with not much taste in them. We've been going to this local favorite for many years and missed it during the shut down. We returned recently and it was as good as ever. Warm and friendly service, the same consistently reliable and diverse menu. I've had several of their soups: chicken pho, house noodle soup, and a very special duck soup with a savory, rich broth . My experience in general with spring rolls or egg rolls is that they're heavily fried with not much to offer inside. Not here.The spring rolls were very light with generous portions of tender duck. We both had the noodles with chicken and curry sauce which were on the sweet side and not too spicy, nicely flavored. The items on their menu are always consistently good. They do have specials from time to time which are also quite excellent. This is a very popular local restaurant and deservedly so. Next time we're in the area we will certainly return. Coronavirus knocked us off our game for a while but this week we got to enjoy outdoor dining at Simply Vietnamese on a perfect weather night. The wait staff is pleasant and knowledgeable. They were taking appropriate Coronavirus related precautions. The menu is filled with awesome choices, the kind of place where you can't go wrong with any choice. We selected 4 appetizers. Banh Mi Sliders, Bao Buns, Peanut Sauce Noodles, and Barbecue Ribs. That was an excellent chance to sample a lot of vibrant flavors. We moved on to sharing the beef combo pho, a perfect amount for two people to get a decent portion. Very flavorful broth and tasty beef balls were the highlights. We shared the basa filet with ginger scallion sauce for an entree, extremely tender fish, sizable enough portion, and a great sauce. I definitely recommend Simply Vietnamese. read more

So I stumbled on this spot for lunch and ordered my meal online. I ordered the spicy vegetable pho and it came to $14.93. When I arrived I parked in a lot nearby. I walked in and told the man I was there for pickup. The waiter handed me my food and I left. When I got in I had to find a big bowl to put the food in because they didn't provide one. I tried the crispy chips with the spicy dip and that was good. Then I ate the pho and it was very, very spicy but good. It was very flavorful and had plenty. Delicious! My mom and I tried the spicy lemongrass coconut soup with chicken and I added extra bok choy. SO good! We both absolutely loved it. Creamy, spicy, yum! The perfect balance of flavors and a huge portion too loaded with goodies. Absolutely great food! Always fresh and always tasty. The only thing that I would mention is that, to me, the pho broth is on the sweet side. I tend to like a more salty base, but I'm always able to add seasoning to have it the way I like it, but since that is a personal preference I would not want to remove a star when everything is always so good. I found this place doing Yelp search for a Vietnamese restaurant near my house when I just couldn't bring myself to drive down to Chinatown to go for the real thing. I have been here on a couple of occasions so I am reviewing multiple visits together. On my first visit I went strictly to have a bowl of Pho. The portion was just about what I would get in New York, taste was really good but the price was doubled, not surprising around here. On my second visit I wanted to try a couple of different items. I saw on the menu under sides that they offered a cup of pho soup, which was great since I didn't want an entire bowl, but was only given broth. When I questioned it the server he said it was right. I told him I misunderstood being that that's not how it was described on the menu so I asked for a small side of noodles. He looked annoyed. I was charged for it. The steamed shrimp dumplings were ok. I found them to be somewhat bland and the dough too thin. The Bao buns, on the other hand, were fantastic. Service is not the greatest as we had an issue with a dish that came out but didn't see the server for quite some time so my hungry companion just ate the food and told them afterwards and was given a slight discount. Also ordered shrimp summer rolls that were mostly vegetables and barely any shrimp. I think it's an okay spot for a quick fix for pho, but I probably would not order the summer rolls again. I've been here somewhere between 5-10 times now, and sadly each time I've noticed the prices getting a bit higher :( their pho is still really bomb, great broth and very yummy for a decently sized portion. This time I decided to get 2 apps and a pho with a friend. My friend got the tofu & vegetable pho with vegetarian broth, and interestingly they completely changed the vegetables from last time. It used to be mushrooms and assorted veggies but now it seems like it's string beans (they look and tasted like they were from a can lol) and zucchini. The banh mi sliders are good but kind of messy, but very decently priced. My favorite was probably the summer rolls that come with a peanut sauce. Overall, the staff are very friendly - we tried to get outdoor seating and were accommodated very quickly. They try to enforce a 1.5 hour rule but not sure if it's actually followed. It's also in the middle of downtown Tenafly and always bustling. It's one of my go to spots for Vietnamese so I'll likely come again; if you've never tried it before I recommend any of their pho's and the summer rolls! read more
