So I pass this cute little place on my way home every day and I've been wanting to try it so My boyfriend booked me a massage as a gift . First I will say they were very accommodating with figuring out a time that works for me and I love that they are open until 9 for us working girls! I went in and the place is tiny but very clean and welcoming. Then I met Julia, my massage therapist ,and she was so nice and friendly. About half way through my massage I wished I had purchased the 90 minute massage because I didn't want it to end. I have had several massages before and some that were way more expensive but Julia really concentrated on my concerns. Usually I go for a Swedish but this was more of a deep tissue. When I say deep I mean she got into muscles that I didn't even know I Had but it was never painful...perfect amount of pressure. Long story short I wanted to take Julia home with me. Such a great experience! I will definitely be back anytime I need to "treat myself" ! read more

I am a walrus-like 36 and half weeks pregnant. A prenatal massage in not generally in my budget, but my achey butt and swollen feet think otherwise. I just got a 75 minute session (for the price of 60 minutes) with Alexis. It was pretty awesome. My cranky muscles were practically singing. Alexis also recommended some home care to help me with foot and lower back/butt pain. The pillow arrangement helped keep me comfortable even though I had to be on my side the whole time. If I need to, I'll consider coming back for a labor inducing massage around 39 weeks. I'll even consider coming back, if I can get over my cheapness. read more

I had a massage with Crissy last night, and I feel sooooo good today. I'm not a regular massage-getter, even though I really enjoy them, just because I feel like it's not an expense I can justify -- but after a really busy work conference and two international flights in 5 days, I definitely needed one. I love that Melt gives new clients an extra 15 minutes on their first massage. Crissy listened to exactly what my concerns were and really addressed them, and even when it hurt, it felt so good :) I also really appreciated that she got feedback from me after, and some advice for how to keep myself loose. Also, when I told her it'd been over a year since my last massage, she recommended I come back quarterly/seasonally -- I loved that she didn't try to convince me to come monthly, or something that would just not be reasonable for me. I've been seeing Becky at Melt for therapeutic deep-tissue massages for just under a year now, and every treatment I've had has been wonderful. I have a lot of joint issues and have cranky, knotty muscles all over my body, and Becky is just a lifesaver. After trying many different massage therapists in Manhattan and Brooklyn, I had just about given up on finding someone with great technique and reasonable rates, but Becky is totally that person. She can attack trigger points like nobody's business, communicates very well throughout the whole massage, and always makes sure you feel comfortable. I always look forward to my sessions-- if only I could afford more frequent, longer massages, life would be perfect! read more

Absolutely fantastic--highly recommend to anyone looking for a therapeutic massage. I went to Melt after developing some back pain following downhill skiing. I was able to get an appointment the same day at 8:30 p.m., making it easy to get to after work. I signed up for the 60 minute therapeutic massage. Upon arrival, I was immediately greeted by my massage therapist (Colleen) and taken to the room. Colleen conducted a brief intake interview, and gave me a two page form to fill out describing the reason for the visit and some other basic information. The massage was thorough and significantly relieved the pain in my back. It didn't cure it entirely, but I felt noticeably better afterward, and the following day--this after three days of roughly unchanged discomfort. The ambiance in the room was excellent, very soothing, and the entire facility has calming and professional atmosphere. Colleen also had some insight about what muscles might be involved in the discomfort, and recommended two stretches that I could do on my own to help loosen the knots in those muscles. read more

Took the Couples Thai Massage Workshop and it was so amazing. Yves was very knowledgeable about the body and how to massage it in a way that connects you and your partner. It's a very small class so it's more personal. Three couples maximum. As someone who gets nervous in large crowds, this was a pleasant surprise. The two hour class consisted of targeting muscles that you feel are tense. Yves asked us in the beginning of the class what body parts we wanted to work on and then she demonstrated on us how to massage our partners. On top of showing us how to massage, she'll explain what each movement does for your body. Who knew massaging your face could clear your sinuses and massaging your feet can help with migraines?! Now I know! Facility is clean and quiet. 10/10 will take another class! read more

I absolutely love this place for so many reasons. They took extremely good care of my husband post back surgeries and were very attentive to all of his many medical needs. I also love prenatal yoga here and have been coming on Thursday nights throughout my pregnancy. It's been an extremely helpful class both for calming purposes and providing some flexibility all around. However, my major complaint (and star deduction) is that they don't have someone as a receptionist. I understand being a small business but the nearly 10+ times I have tried to book a massage I have been frustrated by the inability to actually get in touch with a human!! Update: email is the key and they took amazing care of me last night using some acupressure to help try and induce labor - I can't recommend this place enough to propel. read more

So this review is loooong overdue and prompted by the fact that I have spoken so highly of my experience at Melt with Becky that a friend bought me a gift card for my birthday! I was there about a year ago and I am sad it has taken me this long to write a review and that I can't go more often. Apparently I talk about it enough! Many times when you go for a massage it feels formulaic, two minute on this muscle, 1 minute here, etc. Totally not the Melt experience. I left feeling relaxed, cared for and nurtured. I think that's what the difference between a back rub and a massage. Becky LISTENED to me, was engaged and aware of my reactions to pressure and adjusted without me saying anything. I am so excited to go back and I know in my heart it is time to stop thinking of a massage as an indulgence but as self care - because I definitely could use a little more self care - as we all do! One of the most underwhelming, average, at times deeply uncomfortable, massages I've ever received. I was hesitant to book here because I've heard so many mediocre reviews from neighbors and friends, but I live just up the street and at 7.5 months pregnant this seemed like a good, nearby option. Definitely should have listened to friends. Total waste of money. I left with all the exact aches and pains I showed up with, except for a few new ones because the way I was set up on the table was so uncomfortable and at times the massage tugged painfully at my already stretched belly. Also did not receive a full hour. Started 10 minutes late because of set up and ended exactly on time, so really was just 50 minutes. And then another 10 minutes was spent poking lightly at the soles of my feet? So bizarre. When I booked, I specifically asked if the masseuse was good at prenatal because I didn't want an inexperienced person, and was assured by the front desk that she was. I guess they're paid to say that about everyone. What a disappointment. Will never return. read more

I've gone to other places in the city, and nowhere else pays as much attention, or gives as thorough treatment as Melt. I tried out Melt for the first time last week and had a great experience. After a minor injury, I needed to get in ASAP, and Alexis was able to squeeze me in the same afternoon. She did a great job of listening to my needs and I left with much more mobility in my neck and shoulders as a result. She even followed up the next day to make sure I was doing okay. I cannot thank Melt enough for fitting me in for a last minute massage. I hurt myself pretty badly in the gym two days prior so I was desperate not to mention worried I had done some serious damage to my back. My therapist, Chris was amazing! He listened as I explained my injury and focused on working it out for the entire hour. By the time I went home I felt sooo much better. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! Called and made appointment for a deep tissue for some chronic pain and symptomatic aches from a cross country move / two week stint on an airbed. After what felt like a generous sunscreen application and me requesting a bit more pressure the hour was up and my therapist finished and told me "if i were to work harder on you, i would do damage to myself, i don't specialize in that kind of massage. Here are two names of some of our other therapists..." to which i almost laughed because she wasn't pressing hard or even remotely hard. I accept that maybe i need a little heavier pressure but i informed them of my request beforehand and they gave me totally subpar service, took my money and then said here's how we can help you next time. what a waste of money read more

To be honest, my first experience was unpleasant. I left my session feeling in pain and not relaxed at all. I was about to write a bad review on yelp, but I saw so many good reviews and figured the masseuse I had was just not right for me. I decided to give Melt Massage a second chance and emailed the company about my experience. To my surprise, the owner emailed me and called me to talk about my massage. She listened to what I had to say, and answered all my questions. She went over the thought process of the masseuse and what might have been causing me discomfort. I was set up with another appointment and the owner worked on me the second time around. This time- the massage was amazing!! She applied just the right amount of pressure, and addressed my problem areas. I felt so relaxed and loose afterwards. I really appreciate Melt Massage. This place is a scam and a waste of time. I booked an appointment for a prenatal massage for noon. I left them my phone number to call me in case the time didn't work, but they didn't. Instead they sent an email 30 mins before my scheduled appointment (after I had already driven over to the location and searched for parking) they canceled my noon appointment and told me to pick from other times available. They had an appointment for 1:30pm, which I expressed my frustration with them and given the amount of discomfort I was in due to my pregnancy I said I'll take the 1:30. After almost an hour of waiting, my body was in such pain I couldn't stand around and wait anymore, I called their number numerous times to no avail. I then proceeded to email them to let them know that their new time wasn't going to work because the waiting period in between their new scheduled time and the previously scheduled time was so lengthy. After all, I'm in my third trimester and the aches and pains of it is something they should be familiar with and not push their clients to have to stand around and wait for over an hour. Not to mention, they don't even have a facility you can wait in, what kind of massage place is this where they have nowhere for you to wait in? 30 mins after I cancelled they wrote me an email saying they are going to charge me a cancellation fee for canceling my appointment within the 24 hour window. I totally understand 24 hour window cancellation policies, but this appointment was just booked 30 mins ago and now they want me to pay $45 for canceling it? I didn't bill them for my wasted time, yet they want to bill me for their "wasted time" even though the appointment was JUST booked. I'm shocked that this is how they conduct business and am surprised that they aren't more accommodating to appointments booked right before the appointment time with their "policy". A waste of time, money and overall terrible customer service experience. read more

I injured my lower back 7 days before writing this review. After seeing the reviews I decided to give it a try and scheduled an appt for Sunday 9/14. About me: I'm a part time dance instructor/performer and full time office assistant. Dance is my passion, so I devote a lot of time and energy into it. Review: After filling out the online info the night before, I received an email replied early in the morning. I also received an email reminder of my appt, allowing me for plenty of time to either re-schedule or cancel. Location: it was easy to find (they have a sign with their logo), close to public transportation (including the Atlantic Terminal LIRR). The place has a welcoming atmosphere, great taste decor. I was welcome by a pleasant girl who announce my masseuse, Helen, of my arrival. Helen was very cordial, gave me some papers to fill out and listen carefully to what happened to my back (lower back injured, pain in the morning, can't sit or lay down for too long, lots of pain in the morning). The room was nice, peaceful, nice ambient music, temperature was cool but not cold. Helen was really amazing, she worked through the muscles always hitting the right spot, it was gentle yet strong where it needed to be. It was a enjoyable and therapeutical, like touched by healing hands. At the end of the session I felt new and re-energized. I got massages done before (both therapeutical and relaxation) and I never experienced anything like Melt. I am absolutely coming back and highly recommend to anyone. read more

I've been going to Melt throughout the second and third trimesters of my pregnancy for prenatal massage and love it. I was seeing Julia for the majority of this time, who I would highly recommend, although she's currently taking some time off while she has her own baby. Julia is wonderful though - a great, deep touch and understand of specific prenatal needs. Since Julia went on leave, I've tried a number of their therapists, all who have been pretty good. I would definitely recommend Kate as well. Melt's rates are very reasonable for massages in Brooklyn/NYC (which can be crazy) and it is a small, local business, which I love to support, rather than a big spa or chain. As some Yelpers have mentioned, there is no receptionist and that can be a little awkward when you walk in and inconvenient if you're calling and need to get ahold of someone quickly, but for the most part, it hasn't been an issue and they are very responsive via emails to book appointments. Overall, I've had great experiences going to Melt over the past months and plan to continue to do so following my pregnancy and also for future prenatal massages. read more

I went to Melt on a friend's recommendation and my massage was with Alexis, one of the two proprietors. The studio is small and is no frills. However, they created a lovely, intimate space that is definitely private and calming. And once Alexis starts the massage, I guarantee, you don't care if you're in a formal spa environment. She is really great. I've had great massages, mediocre ones and terrible ones and I would say that this definitely in the great range. She really listened when I talked to her about my problem spots, she was responsive to any comments I had about pressure and I felt so much more relaxed after. If you're looking for the whole spa experience, Melt isn't for you. However, if you're looking for a great, affordable, effective massage, I strongly recommend giving them a try. read more

I've been to a variety of spas over the years, and one thing I've always found is that the ambiance is wonderful, but the massages themselves have rarely satisfied me. Despite the cucumber water, flickering candlelight, and sandalwood wafting through the air, I typically leave wishing that there had been more--more pressure, more understanding of my body, more partnership. And then I found Alexis. Other people have mentioned that Melt is a pretty basic operation. It is. I LOVE that. I actually loathe cucumber water and the regular glass Alexis gives me is great. Instead of the dimly lit cave I've experienced in traditional spas, her massage room has sunshine seeping in through a window. That means when the massage ends, I open my eyes and feel awake instead of being hit with the usual groggy disorientation. Don't get me wrong--there's still music and lightly scented lotion, and the environment still builds a feeling of relaxation, but these things are treated as more of the background, instead of the point of the visit. Which leads me to the massage itself. Before and after every session Alexis asks questions, takes notes, and talks about the ideas she has for my particular issues. Her approach isn't just rubbing the spot that hurts, it's talking through how all of the different muscles connect throughout my body, and about how loosening a spot in my neck might help a knot in my shoulder blade. I had serious spinal surgery five years ago, and she is helping work through some residual pain that caused. She's even sent me video exercises to help strengthen some of the areas that hurt. I rarely write reviews. But few things make me as happy as a trip to Alexis. I feel so lucky to have found this place. read more
