Memorial Park is beautiful but customer service rep Ms. E is rude and argumentative without cause, and should not be in the position she holds. I see from other comments that her lack of concern for grieving families this is a long standing pattern of behavior. My brother who has been managing my dads burial from a distance did not deserve to be treated in a cruel way. My parents bought three lots, plus two in another section. There have been arguments about whether they were prepaid, which they were, and finally, days before we leave to bury my dad, Elena sends a document asking us to waive our rights in case my recently deceased father was buried in the wrong place, because we could not come and confirm! She included no map or diagram, not letter of explanation. Its been a nightmare dealing with Memorial. We are shipping my dads body from Florida to get him to Memorial to be with my mom and our brother, meanwhile my other brother had a stroke and my younger brother God bless him has been trying to manage all of this. Now I am concerned for his health. That is how bad this has been. May my dad rest in peace finally, in the right grave near my mom and brother. This process has been awful, traumatic and stressful for no good reason. Ms. E, your ego is getting in the way of you doing the right thing by families needing comfort. Shame on you. . My family and I have complained numerous times about the dead grass, the neighbors overgrown plants, etc. they don't do anything And then on today, Father's Day, I go to visit my parents expecting to have some privacy, and they have a woman standing there taking notes and measurements on sites. After 15 minutes I turn to her and say, how about a little privacy. Absolutely disrespectful. How about waiting until I and others walk away idiot. This place is a joke. read more

Seemed to be kept up very well. This is the resting place of Robert Reed ( Mr Brady ). It was kind of sad to see how small his stone was. It was in a very nice, but unimpressive area. But then he may have wanted it that way. The Mausoleum was huge! The stain glass windows all around were gorgeous. The inside is hand painted art deco with art deco iron and stone work. It even has a big pipe organ. The crematorium building looked like it was in need of repair but had a pretty garden. read more

i purchased a small bench to be placed on our three plots so the elderly friends and relatives can rest while they visit the graves. The cemetery is threatening to remove the bench and toss it as part of their annual cleaning. I hereby only give permission to the cemetery maintenance personnel to only remove dead flowers from the plot, nothing else. The bench is placed on the plots that my family has purchased and is not in anyone's way. If the bench is not there in the spring, i will start to eat healthy and exercise and outlive everyone who is currently employed by this business and will not be purchasing myself a plot for them to profit of. read more

Update on November 23rd, 2020. Julian Moldovan at Memorial Park worked with us beginning late September to work together to rectify the issues with our son's headstone. He met us at the site and discussed the issues with us in detail, took us to several other stones to discuss options, and fixed the lettering. He has promised that they will make it right or replace it, not matter what- which is great. Julian also called about a month after our issue was resolved to check on us. We are happy with the service Julian has provided and are very happy that Memorial Park wants to make this right for our family. read more

I wish there was an option for zero stars. Went today to check on our family's gravesite inly to find expensive shepherd's hooks thrown away as well as artificial flowers that sit in a permanent vase affixed to headstone. We always had until October 31 to clean the sites up before winter. Apparently there is a new guy in charge of the grounds who didn't bother to mail letters out regarding a new B.S. policy. We were told the items were near a grounds keeping building but hooks were damaged beyond repair. Horrible people who don't care about grieving families. True disgrace of a cemetery. read more

My family decided to make good use of a grave site in a family plot by donating it to The American Legion Department of Illinois for use by a veteran in need of a final resting spot. The staff at Memorial Park Cemetery was very helpful, in particular, Mr. Uilian Moldovan. He walked us through all the necessary steps to complete the donation process and helped with all the needed paperwork. In addition, the grounds and buildings were immaculate. I have many experiences with this cemetery over many years. From "misplacing" my grandfathers headstone to pointing mourners and the hearse the wrong way to my grandmothers funeral to finding my grandfathers stone shifted, I always have an uneasy feeling when I visit. Recently I visited my grandparents, a friend and my great uncle. The area where my great uncle is buried always looks unkept. This time in-ground headstones were covered with grass and weeds. I almost missed my uncle. Great way to treat a Korean War veteran. I saw another headstone that had been lifted by a tree root. So disrespectful! I am glad I rejected my grandparents offering of buying me a plot there. I wouldn't bury a Barbie doll at Memorial Cemetery. read more

The staff at memorial park have been wonderful in the weeks and months following my Grandfather's passing. I drove to the cemetery to visit his spot, and I had stopped by the main building to ask for directions. Two staff members immediately stood up to assist me and were kind and incredibly helpful. They remembered my Grandma's name and details about his burial immediately. I was also provided a map and given detailed directions--I found his spot easily after that. Several months later, I sent an envelope with some dried flowers to the cemetery, simply listing the address and adding a note to ask if someone could sprinkle them on my Grandfather's spot. I wasn't sure they'd get there, but very soon after I sent them I received an incredibly kind email from Julian with pictures of the flowers on the spot. I am so happy with the service and beautiful place my Grandpa is buried. read more

I want to leave a review for what is really a lifetime of customer service experience for our family at Memorial Park Cemetery. My mother's side of the family is buried all the way back to my great grandmother and grandfather. Recently I had to deal with something for the plots where my father is buried and as always Julian the Manager was so helpful and on top of our needs. This is my second update after 06/26/21. Today I can say with a sigh of relief that we are on our way to the conclusion of our saga of erecting a memorial monument at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie. Couple of days later after my negative review on 06/26/21, I immediately started communicating directly with Gene Stasevsky, who at the time of my contact with him had already ordered all the necessary stencils. My direct contact with Gene dramatically changed our ordeal in a positive direction and eliminated miscommunication. The engraver Tom, who was entrusted with this work, turned out to be the highest professional and a person of his word. Tom did his job flawlessly and very quickly, and he is the nicest person on top of all. Here I would like to express my gratitude to Gene Stasevsky and Tom not only for their professional and prompt response to our problem, but also for understanding our frustration and heartache. Now we are waiting for the very last stage of the completion of our project and after this all our problems will be solved. We are confident and have no doubts about it. Thank you. read more

For the Record: for almost 10 yrs since my parents were buried in Memorial Park I've had an excellent working relationship with all personnel from top down involving the care & maintenance of select planted annuals..........until 2015. A dispute on plant quality arose with the Greenhouse that year which was eventually resolved, yet unbeknownst to me they froze our Account thereafter for the disputed payment not fully settled which I was totally unaware of. I had never before experienced such lack of customer service & communication, as was the case here. Lately, I have tried in vain to make settlement to restore the old working relationship, but the new GM Jim Herzog has been unprofessionally adamant about the situation he personally was not even previously involved with! How can this be?? It appears there are no longer any friendly folks at the top anymore unable to understand and unwilling to settle our unresolved differences going forward. Sad. read more

This is a beautiful place, but some of the people working there are profoundly negligent. After a friend of mine was buried here, they put up a temporary marker that incorrectly indicated her religion. I called them immediately and told them of the error and they promised that it would be corrected. Now, almost three months later, it has not been changed. read more

When a person or business provides exceptional customer service, I think it's important to let others know. We had such an experience with Rebecca Janic at Memorial Park Cemetery. We brought Rebecca a problem that she patiently and expertly helped us resolve. There was an unused plot at Memorial Park Cemetery that had been in the family for generations. Everyone agreed that it should be used for a specific person. Sounds simple, right? Not so. It turned out there were now multiple heirs for this plot, each owning a share. Rebecca understood the problem and and patiently helped us understand the quit claim process to tie up all the legal loose ends. Rebecca was extremely responsive via email and phone which was a huge help since we live 2,000 miles away. Now the family wishes can be fulfilled. Thanks again for the outstanding service. read more

I'm so sorry for other folks bad experience here. I've had two great ones. Both times, I had to find burial sites that were way across the place (this place is huge) and had no luck on my own. Then when I realized the office was at the Gross Point Road entrance (not Skokie Blvd entrance) the staff brought me to the sites both times and they were extremely nice about it. I found this place so beautiful, I'd wished my parents were buried here. One really nice thing, they have vases in the mausoleum building that you can put real flowers in. Extraordinarily disappointed. After my husband died, I called to discuss the engraving on the stone. A week later no one had returned my call. Called back. Everything was to be taken care of, but then I had to call to request a proof for the engraving. Then never hearing back again, I called to see if the stone was complete and I was told that everything had been done. No one informed me. Fast forward to the dedication. I called on a Wednesday to make arrangements, no call back. I called again on Monday told t hem I wanted a sign for directions as well as a covering for the stone. Dedication was yesterday and neither request occurred. A really lousy way to treat people in such an emotional and difficult time. read more

Just had the worse funeral experience of my life -- and I have done thousands of funerals -- at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie as they are told to say by "corporate" "a proud Dignity Memorial Service provider." When we arrived no one was at the gate to lead the procession to the grave. The tent that the family had ordered was blocking the road because the cemetery had ordered the vault so late that it had not yet arrived. I have people, some facebook friends even, who work for this company but I have to say their motto ought to be "Dignity: Proud to be heaping one indignity after another on you and your loved one." read more

The burial service was nicely handled, however, over six months later, the gravestone has still not been finished and placed at the burial site. When we went into the office to inquire, we were given several excuses, such as "paperwork lost," or "computer problems" which seemed implausible. In addition, our relative had placed a downpayment on interment fees several years before her death. They claimed they had no record of that and charged us full price. Only after digging through her records for several hours and finding the receipt, did they admit she pre-paid ("whoops, don't know how we missed that" was the excuse), saving us over $3,000 we almost had to overpay. Would be one star, except, as I said, the actual service was nicely handled. read more

I really like this place. It is calm, quiet, & peaceful. The interior looks really fancy. The ceilings have really cool designs on them. The walls have a marble texture to them. I try to come here at least once a year. I usually come here when I have family in town, on Chinese New Year, or when I have nothing to do. My great grandparent's (my dad's grandparent's) are buried inside of the building. read more

This was a really well maintained cemetery before it was purchased by Dignity Memorial. It is now a disgrace and they should be ashamed that are operating a business that is supposed to be service oriented and compassionate. I have a family plot that has 12 grave sites. My parents and son are buried there. I went today and their gravesites have not yet been planted for the summer- which is a considerable amount of money to do every year. The graves are covered with weeds and the grass has not been mowed. It is July 3 and this should have been finished the beginning of June. I have called the manager- who never returns a phone call. I hated to even give this place 1 star. I urge anyone who reads this to find anyplace other then here to bury your loved ones. read more

Don't use this location! Had to chase them down to answer questions, they don't return calls! One employee in particular was so rude, mean and had zero compassion while planning my mom's funeral. And it was freezing cold out and I had to climb through the snow to find the plot where we were burying my mom like I was an employee, they couldn't even do it! This place scares me!!!!! read more

I agree that this was the worst funeral experience ever. Here is a copy of the letter I sent to the CEO of Service Corporation International. Memorial Park is part of SCI's Dignity Memorial provider network. This place really gets 0 stars. Yesterday we buried the cremains of my mother-in-law. Because of the unprofessional, thoughtless and cruel behavior of one of your employees, we almost were not allowed to bury her. My mother-in-law died a little over a year ago on March 8, 2013. Because of the suddenness and manner of her death, the family decided not to bury the cremains right away. We decided to wait until we were better prepared to deal with a burial and also to wait until the family could all be together again since many of them live in different parts of the country. My husband met with someone at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, Illinois shortly after his mother's death. Memorial Park is part of your Dignity Memorial provider network. Don pre-paid for the internment, was told everything was taken care of and all we had to do was to pick a date. At the beginning of July 2014, my sister-in-law spoke with someone named Betty who works in the offices at Memorial Park. The internment was arranged for Monday, July 21, 2014 at noon. She emailed Betty all the documentation that was asked for and told everything would be set up. Unfortunately, Betty would be on vacation that week. That day the family gathered at the cemetery. The grave had been dug, chairs set up and water provided. Each person there spoke a few words. It was quite emotional. About half way through, I noticed a car pull up and a tall man in a suit got out. He waited by the manager of the crew and the crew across the road from where we were. I did not think much about it because it is not uncommon to have office staff at a burial. Just as my husband put the urn in the grave and we were all about to take turns putting the dirt in, the man walked over and asked if my husband's name. My husband answered him and then the man who turned out to be one of the general managers, asked if my husband had the permit for burial. My husband said he did not and that when he paid for the services, he was under the impression that everything was taken care of. My sister-in-law also said that when she had spoken with Betty she had been told that everything had been set. The man said he did not have the permit but would go back to double check, got in the car and drove away. If this poorly timed interruption was not enough, when we tried to continue with the burial, the manager of the crew said we could not put dirt in the grave without the Illinois State Permit for Burial. It just all seemed beyond surreal.As we waited, my husband, my nephew and I went over to the crew manager. To say the least we were all very upset. I questioned why a hole was dug if there was no permit to bury. Apparently, they had the permit to dig. This does not make any sense to me. I understand that state law is state aw, but why would you dig the hole, if you didn't have the permit to fill the hole? Both my husband and my nephew asked "What if this was your mother?" After about 20 minutes, but what seemed like much longer, the general manger returned, permit in hand. He apologized, but honestly it was too late for that. We finished the service and left in a stunned state. Here are my questions: 1. Why was this detail not taken of before the internment? Who did not double check to make sure all the t's were crossed and the i's dotted? If there was a problem, a simple phone call to my husband would have saved the incredibly cruel interruption of this sacred ceremony. 2. Why did the general manager wait until we were about to bury my mother-in-law to say something? 3. Why was the hole dug if everyone knew it could not be filled? 4. How could someone who runs a cemetery be so incompetent as to interrupt services and ask for paper work? Other than this experience, I have never witnessed such an inept action at a burial. According to SCI's Code of Conduct and Ethics for Officers and Employees dated August 9, 2011 "There are some forms of behavior that will not be tolerated, including, but not limited to Disorderly, indecent, immoral, unethical, unprofessional, or abusive conduct." I would say what transpired meets all of these criteria and the family is asking that some form of consequence be imposed and that we be notified of the consequence. Memorial Park has the contact information. I feel that as CEO, you should know what is going on with your affiliates. I also think the Board of Directors should know, so I am sending them all a copy of this letter. In addition, you will see an unflattering review on yelp, a description of the proceedings on Facebook and any other social media I can think of. read more

I was saddened by the response of the new management of Memorial Park Cemetery, as they are attempting to strong arm Corp. Bitton's father into removing the two flags from his son's grave. If the size of the flags was non-compliant, this should have been discussed prior to their installation, not two years later. The flags are a fitting tribute to one who gave his life for our freedom. Please show some respect for both the living and the dead! read more

My father has been buried there since 1970. As far as we can tell, he's still there. Thus they've kept their part of the bargain.
