3 and 1/2 stars as the food was decent. This review is from their recent appearance for the 4th of July festival at the Waterfront. I'm sure all the vendors were surprised a bit by the turnout of people. Nearly all the vendors were out of food just before dark. There was a huge wait, well over an hour on line then another few minutes for the food. As soon as I ordered a fried chicken bun, they took down the sign for it so we lucked out. The problem started with the line itself though - it was so confusing, at first no one really knew where it started and it would've been nice if they had someone run the line. When we got up to the front they were fairly friendly with taking orders and recommendations but non of them were wearing masks or gloves. Is that how it is at their main location? We got the meatloaf - tiger tots and fried chicken bao buns. Both were again pretty decent but as expected the tots were more heavy on the tots and a bit skimped on the meat. Not bad but have had much better organization and food from a food truck, even at packed fests like this one. Perhaps the brick and mortar location is better.

TLDR: Loved the meatloaf and Korean cornbread! Came here spontaneously! I was originally on my way to get Thai food, but I thought that Korean/southern food fusion sounded really interesting. I asked the cashier what his favorite items were and he told me to get the 3 bun combo: steamed buns with choice of meats and two sides. I chose the meatloaf bun which he highly recommended, along with the fried chicken and BBQ pork. For sides I got the Korean cornbread and a medley of vegetables. Of the buns, my favorite was the meatloaf. It was flavorful, tender, crispy and I would probably order just that next time. The chicken was also great. I also quite enjoyed the cornbread. The cornbread had a great texture and it was sweet and buttery with a slight kimchi flavor- really good. I was not a fan of the vegetable medley; I thought there was too much going on. Service was great. paid at the counter and they brought it to the table outside. Workers all wore masks and hand sanitizer is provided. The cashier was friendly and was extremely helpful. Would come again to try other things!

3.5 stars. I'm always excited to partake in Restaurant Week. Winter 2021's takeout/delivery format was definitely funky and different, but interesting... though there were lots of kinks to work out, like some businesses just not having that special $20.21 meal at all? But I digress. My friend came across Memphis Seoul and we knew right away that we had to give them a try. I mean, soul food by way of Korea? Hell yeah. The verdict? Great entrees, average sides, disappointing desserts. Let's start with the mains first: the Korean BBQ meatloaf was absolutely delicious. Tender, moist, and flavorful with a little bit of sweetness from that bulgogi marinade. The BBQ jackfruit was also delightful. The sauce was perfectly smoky and tangy, and I liked the texture of the jackfruit. Great option for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. The kimchi coleslaw was nice and refreshing with a great pickled flavor. The ramen 'n' cheese was okay, though I would've preferred it creamy rather than solid and somewhat dry. The Korean cornbread was weirdly soggy and I didn't enjoy it at all. As for desserts, the strawberry soju cake looked so pretty (think Pepto Bismol but make it classy) but it was so unappetizingly sweet. For what it's worth, my friend really liked it. The peach cobbler also suffered from sweetness overload, and it was much more dense than I imagined. Guys, cut back on the sugar please. They were both big portions though. Would definitely order from here again, especially now that I know what to avoid... and more importantly, what I need more of in my life! (For those wondering: meatloaf. The answer is always meatloaf.)

Stumbled upon this gem while picking up a kettlebell from someone in prospect heights (I know mad random). It was tucked in on a side street closer to Franklin Ave and the unique name made me yelp the menu. Menu definitely looked legit as well as the reviews so I ordered some food from Yelp to go. Inside were two young people preparing and packaging the food. I asked one of them what his favorite items off the menu were and he said EVERYTHING! I was a little skeptical as I have never tried Ramen and cheese, and or collard greens from a Korean restaurant but, baybeeee it 'twas DELICIOUS! A mix between sweet and spicy and the ramen tasted just like regular "black folks" Mac! The fried chicken was a bit too greasy but that's ok, just take off the skin and chow down!

Discovered this place 2 years ago at Tastes of Franklin (Ave), so this review is a long time coming. Ordered takeout twice in past month - I'm obsessed! Their fried chicken always has me craving more. Best part is that you get to choose which pieces you want. My go-to is 2 legs and 1 thigh. Korean cornbread and kimchi coleslaw are amazing. Not a big coleslaw fan but I decided to give it a try. Pleasantly surprised by how flavorful yet subtle the flavor was, almost a zesty ranch taste that went well with chicken. Korean cornbread is consistently moist. The banana pudding is solid. This time I decided to try the Strawberry soju cake. Good cake, and nothing more trademark and true to southern "Seoul" food than strawberry cake. Disappointed that the icing was hard to eat, thick and a little sweet, cake didn't really give much soju flavor. I'd probably stick to banana pudding next time. Don't forget to order from their website instead! Support your small businesses like this gem.

    Trio bao sampler

Which genius thought to mix up korean and soul food!? That combination goes so well together! I came across Memphis Seoul while walking through the Atlantic summer festival. There was an aromatic BBQ scent and a huge crowd of people surrounding this booth, so my friend and I had to check it out. Their menu is mostly soul food with a korean twist in it. My friend and I ordered the trio bao sampler with BBQ jackfruit, bulgogi meatloaf, ... and I can't quite remember the last one. I was most excited to try the BBQ jackfruit, because I heard jackfruit is a great meat alternative. It was weird to imagine jackfruit as meat because I've only ever ate jackfruit as a fruit alone! Memphis Seoul did a great job with the Jackfruit because when I first bit into it, it tasted EXACTLY like meat and I didn't have any suspicions that it tasted like meat alternative. I was mindblown. After trying the other meat baos we ordered, I realized then that what I initially thought was meat was actually jackfruit. If you taste the other meats in comparison, you'll notice there's a different texture from the rest. But you won't notice it at first bite! The jackfruit has a chewy but soft texture, and has a *pulled pork* texture. As for the bulgogi meatloaf, I normally don't like meatloafs but my friend wanted this one. Similar to regular Korean bulgogi, the bulgogi meatloaf bao here was sweet. The sauces they used to accompany all the baos complemented the meats so well! I had a really good experience here, esp with the Jackfruit. I would highly recommend this place to my vegetarian friends! Hoping to come back to visit the actual restaurant.

Amazing blend of American soul food with Korean food, hence the name "Memphis Seoul." I would never have thought that this fusion would be good together, but it really was amazing!

Half rack with pickles and ramen mac'n cheese

2nd time visiting this place! First time the meatloaf and rack of ribs. This time, 4 pc fried chicken combo with cornbread and kimchi slaw. Wife got the half rack of ribs with pickles and ramen mac. We also got an order of tiger tots with sauce on the side. The person taking our order recommended the Gangnam sauce and we love spicy so we got the kpop atomic sauce. The Kpop sauce is legit spicy, lips are faintly tingling still as I am writing this review. So let's get into it! We got here. Inside was not available, some patrons had arrived before and had been eating their meal. So we opted out and sat outside since it was 56 degrees out. Anyways I ordered the food and waited, the service is good. The guys working that day were polite and help making order easy. The ribs are very very good, I mean these are the slutty, been smoking for hours I mean HOURS, so it literally slips right off the bone. I mean it's like the meat is so delicate it breaks up with absolute ease. The Kpop sauce drizzled on top of the ribs, a little slaw and a pickle to make the perfect bite! Yikes major flavortown, dunk a tot and pop that in right after for some crunchy texture. They have loaded version of the tiger tots, you can add sauce and protein, next time for sure. Lastly the fried chicken, as I bite into the first piece I instantly get the biggest crunch! Normally KFC (Korean Fried chicken) is double sometimes even triple fried. This one is the crunchiest chicken I have ever bitten into! With that being said, the flavor I was expecting from the chicken fell a bit short. The chicken looked perfectly spiced with huge pieces of cracked pepper visible in the breading and the color is slightly darker and was thinking the chicken would be a little spicy but was deceivingly less flavorful than expected. There was no flavor of spice in the chicken. I'd give this a soft 4 stars, I'm glad the guy recommended getting the sauces, adding the kpop atomic sauce to the slaw and the chicken made both much better! That Kpop atomic sauce is what gave this meal more flavor and the Korean kick that it needed. The spiced cornbread with honey is 10/10 eat that joint when it's hot!! Anyways great meal and gentlemen working today we're great. The food fell a little short today with sides not as flavorful today and the chicken even though super crunchy lacked slightly in seasoning and was on the tougher side. Got a piece that was unedible because it was fried to long. Wish we had room for banana pudding but were way too stuffed, next time. Tips, get sauces! At least 2-3 kinds. Get the cornbread and Banana pudding!! Also there was no bathroom at this location, I was told to use the pizzeria next-door.

Riverboat Fried Chicken Sandwich, Ramen 'N' Cheese (12 oz. serving), Korean Cornbread (12 oz. serving)

I love fusion and was excited to try this spot. I was thoroughly impressed by how crispy and juicy the friend chicken sandwich was -- highly recommend! I also ordered two fixin's/sides, the korean cornbread and the ramen and cheese. The cornbread was good. The "korean flavor" was mild. The ramen and cheese was tasty at first bite -- it had a sweet chili sauce flavor to it -- but after I was full from eating everything else, I wasn't feeling it much anymore. The inside of the store is small and it's more of a takeout spot.

    Meatloaf bao

Tried this spot out at a food festival over the weekend. They had a long line plus it was Asian inspired food and they had bao buns so I needed to try them out! They were extremely busy and worked super slow but after waiting over an hour to order and get our food.. not the best food I've tried. After we ordered we noticed they were heating up the bao buns in a microwave oven and not sure if this is how the prepare at their storefront or because it was a food festival. The food was not terrible but we had high expectations because of the line and the photos looked amazing. Not bad of a place to eat from just don't expect a burst of flavor town.

Really wanted to like this place because I am a fiend for fusion food, but unfortunately for the price it just didn't stand out. I only tried one catfish bao so take this review with a grain of salt, but for $8 I really expected more. The slaw was just normal slaw (so much missed potential for fusion flavors), and while the catfish was very crispy, it was almost too much crisp and not enough fish, and I couldn't really taste the flavor. Also a tiny portion. Would try again if they were running some kind of discount, otherwise just too $$$

Bulgogi meatloaf (looks burnt, but was good), ramen with cheese, and roasted veggies.

The waitress was super professional and gave us suggestions from the menu items. She suggested the Peaches Punch (rum and positive vibes) and she did not disappoint. Peaches Punch was sweet and citrus. My fam is southern, migrated from North Carolina to Brooklyn, so I am not a stranger to southern food. My mother was a sou cook in a small water front hotel on the intercostal waterway, so I confess I am a chair side critic of collard greens. I do not like collards simmered too sweet. I also like to add vinegar. So we ordered the fried catfish, cornbread, and collard greens. The catfish arrived seasoned and crispy. I added a dash of Texas Petes hot sauce, they seriously offer a variety of hot sauce. Love it. The collard greens were inviting, aromatic, and tender. The smell of the collards reminded me of Sunday dinner after training. Yes, it tasted old school, I greatly appreciated the southern vibe and the great southern hospitality. The main entrées were affordable and the drinks were worth every penny. This is within walking distance from my home. I will definitely return for collard greens. Please make a date to sit out on the sidewalk and order those collards.

During a recent breakfast visit celebrating both my mother's birthday, I had a disappointing customer service experience. I would first like to recognize the young gentleman who served our table . A mexican young man. , He was professional, attentive, and courteous throughout our visit. The issue arose when I ordered a Peach Bellini that did not taste as expected. It lacked the peach flavor I had enjoyed on previous visits and tasted more like orange juice. I asked if it could be replaced with a ginger ale. My server was handling another table and zi was willing to wait. . But a women of Spanish decent light skin and heavy set approached our table and explained there were policies regarding returning something. . Rather than simply processing the substitution, she repeatedly encouraged me to keep the drink and offered to add more peach flavoring. I explained several times that I simply did not like the beverage and preferred a ginger ale instead.. I also told her I an celebrating a birthday abd do not wish to go back and forth. She tried to explain all drinks are made thd same which is not the same. She has to remember she does not just represent herself but the Peaches establishment. As a former bartender, I understand that drinks can vary, despite efforts at consistency. My concern was not the drink itself but the lengthy discussion. I felt pressured to justify a simple request during what was meant to be a special celebration Our bill exceeded $100, and as a longtime customer, I expected a more customer-focused response. If there is a formal policy regarding drink returns or exchanges, it would be helpful for it to be clearly posted. They eventually substituted it. But I should not have to goI though all that. Overall, my experiences at your restaurant have been very positive, which is why this incident stood out. The food was excellent, and our server was wonderful. I hope this feedback can be used as a coaching opportunity. Customer concerns are often best resolved through listening, empathy, and flexibility. .

I wanted to love it so much especially since TikTok critic/MMA fighter Keith Lee visited them in 2023, but my experience was not like his. I want to say that online reviews are almost about accurate. They were out of cold salads and collard greens which was an issue for other customers at times as well. No problem, they were super helpful and offered an alternative but not a good one. I had steamed vegetables that mashed in my mouth like mashed potatoes when I took a bite. I did end up going to another spot for collard greens and potato salad because you can't have soul-food without that. I had the rib dinner with mac n cheese and yams and a tiny piece of complimentary cornbread. The ribs definitely taste amazing but they don't take off the membrane in the back which is slimy and gross. I left that part behind. The yams were sweet and good BUT.....that mac n cheese is NOT soul-food Mac n cheese. Here's the thing I figured out, they use such little cheese but season the noodles very well that you don't truly notice unless you love mac n cheese, which I do, so I noticed it lacked so much cheese but had seasoned noodles. The rib dinner was a 3/5 because ribs were great but sides needed help. I had rice and peas as an additional side and fried wings. The wings were ATROCIOUS! I ate the smallest one and didn't eat the rest. How can you serve such huge feathered wings like that? It was a nightmare. The feathers being on it turned me off. This tells me they don't make their food with care, they move quick to be one and done and I want my food cooked with love and care. They were also frozen wings that were thawed and seasoned, I know the difference. The rice and peas were okay 3/5 as well. Overall the food was not worth the hype. Customer service was beautiful for sure but the food was not it.

I stopped in today to take food for work and I am currently sooo disappointed. I ordered a meatloaf dinner. Here we go... The meatloaf was dried out, definitely stretched with breadcrumbs and completely void of flavor. I asked for gravy all over. I guess they didn't hear me. The macaroni was bland and colorless and the cheese was missing! This mac had all the flavor of a hospital meal that was prepped for a patient on a salt free, seasoning free, flavor free diet. The collard greens tasted frozen maybe??? No specks of meat or flavor of any kind. Mitchell's Soul Food is CASH ONLY and it was nearly empty when I arrived. I can see why. I am unabashedly greedy and also not big on wasting money so I forced it down. Every bite made me sad. The only kinda/sorta "pro" was the low price. Still not worth it. Never again!

I also got a side order of just the BBQ ribs as well and found that the portions were very generous and the price was a steal!!! The oxtails were tender and the Mac n Cheese was solid and the Cabbage also was seasoned well. Flavor wise, I am a little particular as my all-time favorite Jamaican food spot was back in Boston but this was definitely a strong contender. The BBQ ribs were on the sweeter end and were not my personal favorite. The cornbread was a bit dry but coupled with the meal it worked out once incorporated. Overall, the next time I'm back I would love to try the rest of the dishes as they have a lot of great options at a super fair price point!!! Definitely check it out!

The rice was soggy, the gravy had an unpleasant taste, and the overall appearance of the food was a complete turn‑off. The portions were very small, some items were burnt, and even the cornbread portions were tiny. When I saw what they claimed was a peach cobbler, I was shocked. It looked more like a pastry stacked with peach slices straight from the can. Nothing about it looked homemade, and it was just as unappetizing as the rest of the meal.

One thing I cannot stand about restaurants or food trucks is having a large menu that you cannot…read moreconsistently deliver. If you have 10, 15, or 20 items on the menu but most of them are unavailable, what's the point? That pretty much describes my experience with Harlem Seafood Soul. I've driven past this food truck many times while operating the M60 and finally decided to stop and give it a try. Looking at the menu online, I was excited. Catfish, whiting, mac and cheese, collard greens, shrimp and grits, and other soul food favorites all sounded amazing. The problem came when I arrived around 1:30 in the afternoon. I wanted catfish. Sold out. I wanted whiting. Sold out. I wanted mac and cheese. Sold out. I wanted collard greens. Sold out. At that point, most of the options available were shrimp dishes. For a place called Harlem Seafood Soul, I expected more of the soul food menu to still be available in the middle of the day. If items are regularly selling out that early, then either more food needs to be prepared or the menu needs to better reflect what's realistically available. Another thing that surprised me is that I've visited other food trucks and carts that have been featured on TV shows, and many of them have an app, online ordering, or some way to place an order ahead of time. Where do you order Harlem Seafood Soul from? If I'm spending over $30 for lunch, I'd like the option to place my order in advance and have it ready when I arrive. To be fair, the wait wasn't long, and my frustration isn't with the people working there. Everything looked good, and I'm still planning to try the shrimp and grits. My issue is with availability. It's hard to get excited about menu items that aren't there when you arrive. I love supporting Black-owned businesses, and I want Harlem Seafood Soul to succeed. That's exactly why I'm leaving this review. The food sounds delicious, but you've got to do better with keeping your signature menu items available. Customers shouldn't have to arrive before lunchtime is over to have a chance at ordering them. This visit felt like a disappointment. Honestly, I'm not even sure if I want to give it another try. When a menu gets you excited and then most of what you came for isn't available, it leaves a bad first impression.
