We ordered river rock and had it delivered. I understand it says manufacture may vary but it does not say the quality may vary. They had Mastercraft on the website and they sent Highland. I feel when the rocks look very different and it is not just a different manufacture it something we should have asked if we accepted the substitute, like every other store does. And we are losing our delivery fee to return it. When they called to set up delivery why didn't they tell us they would be substituting the brand? All this could have been avoided. I had a very bad experience just at this particular Menards because of just one particular assistant manager. Perhaps she was in charge late Friday due the Peter Principal. Clarisse is a sturdy woman, a physical labor role, devoid of employee and customer contact is clearly called for. A few days ago I bought and assembled an electric fireplace/TV stand as a house warming gift for wife of 40 years. She loves it. Today I brought in the sale paper to get an instore credit for difference in price. Regardless of the fact that the Customer Service person was already preparing the correct paperwork, the store computer ok'd the adjustment, but Clarisse overload the Menards' master computer system and insisted I bring back the unit I assembled for a refund and if more unassembled units were in stock, I could then start over and buy at the lower sale price. First time coming here, I've passed this place up a few times and I finally gave this place. It's a modern looking store. It's really bigger than you think when you walk in the door. It features everything you want in a Menards. They're already got Christmas stuff set up. Outdoor stuff is cheap (at least what I was looking for) always a fan of the refreshments by the check out. Menards is very good for building materials and home repair items, Fair prices, good selection of items. No self checkouts, to me that's a big plus. Most employees are knowledgeable of items and where to find them, a few have not been, but over all I find shopping a positive experience. I had an unfortunate situation with the outdoor manager and store manager of the Cresthill, IL location on Saturday, 4/13. There were 6x6x8's marked as $2.49 each and when I got to the register they rang up as a lot more. The cashier called someone up after we showed her pictures of the sign and that individual told us it was mismarked. He then called the outdoor manager (or lumber manager up to speak to us, I'm not sure of his title) and he was rude to us. He was not friendly or apologetic and stated he could not give us the mismarked price and that someone had moved the signs around. We also spoke with the store manager, and he would not give us the price on the sign either, nor a discount on a purchase of 2x8x8's for our trouble. He too was rude to us. It was not our fault that the lumber was mismarked, but they made us feel like we were the ones to change the signs, and I can assure you we were not. We always shop at menards rather than home depot or lowes, but this time we left and took our business to Home Depot. I will not return to the cresthill location ever again. read more

Long review overview rented a truck they forgot to fuel it up and we were almost left stranded while on the road. Customer service was bad when we complained Full story: Rented a pick up, the casher that check us out was new, I know this because she told us she had never assisted in a rental, no one helped her with the rental no one walked her through the steps on how to ring us up. Once we got the rental we drove about 30 min when the low fuel light came on. The pick up only takes Propane fuel so we had not idea where to get that. I called Menards four times to notify them however no one answered. I had a relative drive to the Crest Hill Menards to let them know that we were about to be stranded because they forgot to refill the fuel. While at Menards my relative witnesses Manager Becca yell at the poor new girl that checked us out without any guidance! Luckily we were about 20 min from another Menards and it was arranged that they would fill us up. When we got back to the Crest Hill Menards I asked to speak with Manager Becca. While waiting to speak with her I overheard her speaking about the customers at the service desk (us), the casher came back and stated she would ring us up and not charges us the extra time. I became upset because 1. I asked to speak with the manager and she was neglecting to come up and speak with us and 2. Because not only did we go over the time because of their mistake but we also drover extra miles because of it so I believe we should not have been charged with the extra miles we drove to get to the other Menards. The casher called Becca and asked her to come up and meet with us. Becca came up did not speak to us, spoke only to her cashiers, then finally addressed us and asked how close we got to running out of fuel. As my husband began to answer, she started talking over him and said "oh wow really" my husband hadn't even answered her, so her cutting him off was very rude! Becca seemed unapologetic and uninterested in servicing us. I am upset by her attitude and lack of professionalism when it comes to training her employees, yelling at them in front of customers, and handling store errors. read more

This place is horrible!!! Been here for one hr and between 2 managers no one can find the lawnmower that my husband is looking for that was actually on sale in the Menards paper. We were told there were 2 left and they came in in April 15th. One of the guys stated that inventory has not been done in over a year. That's poor Management!! And the Manager I spoke with was Becca! Now every Menards is pretty much like the others...clean stores, great products and decent prices...but I'd found that the personnel at this particular location went above and beyond my expectations during my most recent visit. I stopped into the Crest Hill store yesterday when I was looking for a sign board and since I had a little extra time on my hands, I decided to wander around the store to see if there's anything else I needed while here. What was I thinking? OF COURSE there's other things I needed...after all, I'm in a handyman's/woman's heaven! But as I cruised the different departments, I must've had at least three or four different employees ask me if there was anything they could help me with while using a very friendly approach. One of them even said "Well, if you DO need anything, I'll be right here to help you out." I found it very refreshing NOT to be hovered over like a vulture's prey. Sometimes you just like to browse. I'll definitely be back here again. I just wish it was in my own neighborhood...they'd get a lot more of my money if they were! read more

I probably spend more money here than any other store when the weather is nice. It is getting to the point where I know the employees by name and the aisle numbers of all the stuff they have. They will take pretty much anything back with the receipt too. I have been to a good many home improvement store in my life and the people here are really some of the nicest. Whenever I have a question someone is there to help or at least get someone who can. They have great hours too, so there is really no need to ever visit Home Depot again. I think they are open until 10 on most days. Extremely useful for nighttime plumbing disasters. The biggest plus here is that they let you pick up orders, which I have taken advantage of a few times now. I recently bought some lumber while it was on sale and I can pick it up in a week when I need it. Awesome! read more

I have shopped at this location since they opened this location. We have spent thousand of dollars over the years for various items. Last week I had to exchange a sump pump that failed. I could not find the receipt. I called the store to see if I could exchange it because I did not have the receipt. I was told by 3 separate people that yes I could. While I was there I received great customer service from a lady named Maureen. When I went up to check out I was charged for the new pump. No exchange. When confronted by the supervisor, Jay, I was told they usually don't do any exchange even on product with lifetime warranties. Yes, I got a bit loud. It was that this point that Jay said I could just leave the store. I have never been treated like this before ever. Jays attitude and tone was horrible. I asked for the manager. The manager Brian gave me the same story about returns and exchanged. But in the end Brian let me exchange the pump that again had a life time warranty. Thanks to Jay. One of the worst experiences I've had as a consumer. Made a purchase online for in-store pick up. Called the store earlier in the day for information regarding a family member picking up my merchandise and was advised by a gentleman that, as long as the email printout was brought in along w/the third party's ID, pick up would be fine. My father, who has the same last name and ID reflecting the same residence, was refused pick up. I talked with a so-called manager named Kathy over the phone in hopes of providing additional info (credit card number used to purchase online) but was told to simply "call customer service and cancel the order." No attempt was made to come to an amicable solution or agreement. She was very rude and unconcerned. I agree with the many other reviews and should have taken heed. I have purchased several items from this location in the past but will now drive to a further location instead of returning. read more

I was purchasing some pots in the garden center and the shelf (with arrows) indicated they were $3.99. I have worked in retail, so I checked the label and the description matched. When I got to the register, they rang up $7.99. I told the cashier that they were marked and the whole shelf was labeled $3.99. She got on her radio and attempted to describe the pot to someone but didn't have any gardening knowledge or reading ability as she didn't use any of the words on her screen that described it. After several minutes, (with a huge line forming behind me) they decided that the computer was right and it didn't matter what I had read on the shelf. I wrote an email to corporate describing the incident and they said "we reserve the right to charge what we want for our products" On a separate occasion, I asked a garden center employee if they had any dahlias. She held up a petunia and asked if that was one. She held up several other plants and asked if those were it. I wanted to tell her to stop trying to help me at that point, it was painful. read more

I have had great service before but lately workers have been rude. I tried calling to see if a particular brand of paint was sold here. They answered and hung up without giving me a chance to say anything. Twice. Decided it was easier to stop in since I was down the road later in the day and a group of girls were huddled having a conversation and ignoring customers. I stepped up for help and one agreed to help but acted like she doesn't get paid to work and assist people. If I would've known my interrupting their conversation was going to be such a problem I wouldn't have bothered in the first place. I never complain about service but this was above and beyond. I will be giving 2 stars however because other workers in the garden center were very welcoming and could teach their coworkers a thing or two. read more

I shop here a lot and have dropped a ton of cash in this store, but my wife and friends say I should "drive to friggen Mexico" rather than go here. The biggest reason is that the last three times I have gone to the Crest Hill store, I have been overcharged for items that were on sale but not rung up at the sale price at the register. In each case, my order was suspended while I waited for more than 15 minutes for someone to go check the price. This happened yesterday 11-28-15 and I finally lost it and asked to see the manager, who basically could have cared less. Again, this is there times in a row. (1) plumbing supplies (2) a fence and (3) an air purifier. All were on sale and came up at regular price at the register. still beats Lowes read more

I had $250 stolen from me at their customer service desk.I returned a xmas tree in Feb. that I was told would be credited to my Big Card account.They do not give you a receipt stating this,they just tell you & then return your old receipt.Credit did not show after 1st statement & I was told it takes up to 2 billing cycles.2 cycles later,still no credit.Received a report from card co. that a store credit was issued & used at their store.I contacted store Manager,showed him evidence of merchandise purchased,witch was groceries,& told him to check my card history.I only purchase home project material & not groceries.He said he spoke to cashier who could not recall anything so I,as a consumer,am out of luck.I waited as instructed for credit to be posted & then was punished for doing what they instructed me to do,by telling me too much time had passed.Sounds like a maneuver to cover their liability for possibly having & hiring dishonest employees.No accountability at this store,so please be careful with returns at their customer service desk. read more
