This place is MASSIVE - perhaps too massive? I was looking for something specific and in a bit of a rush, and navigating this space was not great. Everything is super spaced out, and it's not overly clear where things are. I ended up trying to find someone who worked there to ask for help, and it took me a while to locate anyone. The person I did find didn't know the answer, so I had to keep looking. Their stock of what I was looking for - simple hooks - was pretty low, so I had to go to another location. Overall, it's your average big box retailer. Prices are more competitive than Home Depot, seem to have a bit more variety as well, but the workers there are super hit or miss. I've had online orders go smoothly, but on my first order the worker in the back told us that we didn't have to check in with customer service. Fun fact.... You do. This was followed by the security guy following us to the parking lot and accusing us of stealing. As former contractors most of our acquisitions were based on what we needed for working projects, so we doubled up easily by shopping at Menard's for most of our work & household stuff. Now that we're retired any expenses are budgeted with Menard's pricing & location, helpful staff & immense product availability our favorite place is Menard's for the long haul. I returned an item and asked for store credit because I've been a customer there for a very long time. They messed up and didn't give me the appropriate card to utilize it and wouldn't help me straighten it out. Said I have to do it on the website and "it's very difficult." I couldn't figure it out and emailed the "front desk" email suggested on the GV store website and crickets. I drive by the Home Depot to get there. No more Menards for me unless I have to go there first something very specific. Very poor customer service, especially to a loyal customer. Came in to look for a new light fixture and bathroom vanity. This place is always so well-stocked, and everyone who works here is so helpful! We quickly were directed to the correct aisle to peruse the selection of in-stock and special order cabinets. We also did a cruise through the lighting department, where we found an excellent selection of light fixtures. An unexpected treat today was a pianist, whose lovely lovely music made for a pleasant errand. If you live in the area then you have probably been to a Menards in your life. There is an a lot to say about this large home improvement store. Overall you can find basically anything you need for your household needs here. I will say I actually prefer Menards or Lowe's or Home Depot any day. I definitely feel like a staff here are always friendly and super helpful. I also enjoy that you can find grocery items, pet items, honestly they have a lot of random stuff and you end up filling your cart with things you didn't know you needed. We ended up going for some bathroom/kitchen needs and were able to find everything pretty quickly. I would definitely recommend checking this location out as everything was pretty easy to find and when we got stuck an employee was always nearby to help us out. Also make sure you check the bottom of your receipt, often they are doing a rebate program where you can cash your receipts back in for money. read more

This one stop all home improvements shopping place is all that you need in your neighborhood. I've been here many times to get to our hardware and electric household needs. What I've loved about this store is their size, various items they offer and their ever stock full inventory. The top floor is literally a housing community of different homes with the different kitchen styles at display. I recently had a chance to take my father in law to this store while I got there to get some tools. Since he had come from India and to this store for the first time, was instantly impressed with this store, I took him around this store. He watched the most of the section in the store with bewilderment. His remark, "Inga ellaame kedaikum polarike" which typically translates to "Looks like you get everything at this place". I suppose if you're a contractor and already know everyone there, it might be fine. Maybe if they know you, they act like they're employees of a large retailer, and answer questions and try to be helpful. But if you're not a contractor, stay away. I was just looking to finish a small project. So I ordered a few pieces of lumber online. I got the email, Your order is ready for pickup! So I went to pick it up. I was sent to several wrong places beginning with my entrance the lumber yard. Back and forth. Go all the way down there to the right, the first guy said. He was wrong: I needed to go down there to the left. How stupid do you have to be not to know right from left? Remember, this is a big lumber yard. I finally got irritated after being batted back and forth by lazy workers who couldn't have cared less about my customer experience. So I raised my voice, which woke up the hungover millenial who I finally found to look up my order, who then informed that in fact my order was NOT ready for pickup, and not all of it was in inventory. Some of it might be. He didn't seem inclined to do any digging. He needed constant prompting. So, when he said nothing to follow up, no "Sorry about that" no "Let's go see what we do have in stock", I said, "Well, are you going to help me look for these pieces of lumber, because if I try to find them myself it will take me ten hours." At which point he resentfully heaved himself up from his computer and took me to look, which is when he discovered that in fact they didn't have any of my order at all. Not a single piece. Again, he didn't follow up, leaving me to say, "So, you will be refunding my money, then?" At which point he said I needed to go speak to someone else. At which point I left the store, because If I had stayed I would have started yelling, and I didn't want to do that. So, I had to go online to request a refund for the order that they didn't fulfill. So, my advice: stay the f**k away from Menard's. The brain-dead people working there couldn't care less about customers. They're rude, unhelpful, and obviously don't want to be working there. read more

This place is colossal, two floors and they have everything. Books, magazines, food, plumbing electrical, roofing, we even bought our trampoline here! This trip I was looking for kitchen cupboards. They have a whole huge layout and the woman who helped me was super friendly. I came home with some many brochures. I didn't like that they didn't have price sheets, but I guess not everybody is like IKEA! She said I could come back and we would make up a layout they would price it up for me. Each kitchen came with a price for a standard set of cabinets so you can compare, oh that kitchen was $2000 for that amount of cabinets and this one was $4400, so I had a rough idea.They had a funky teal cupboard which I loved and she also told me the option of paint matching cupboards for an extra fee. Would've never thought that was possible! Especially since she said it was sprayed on then baked and sprayed and baked again. It wasn't just when they are cheap paint that would gouge. Very clean and up to date Menards, and good customer service. On this particular visit, my mom and I needed to repair our screen door to the patio and needed a new screen and some wood. Very helpful employees. Russ at the front desk was helpful in directing us to the wood area, the self-serve saw to cut the wood and screens. (I thought it was just like Home Depot) I was approached by elderly male employee telling me that I had to leave immediately because I had my dog with me. I love what they've done to this Menards. It's bigger. It's better. It's bomb. The employees are very helpful. We always find someone to help us. In fact, they usually find us first. There have been times they don't know exactly what we want or are looking for, but they do their best to help us locate it. I've been working on a lot of projects at my father's house and Menards has come in handy. The only real issue I have with them is that many of their smaller items are sold in bulk instead of individually. Therefore, I sometimes find it more useful to go to a local, smaller store that can sell me a few screws instead of a 10-pack. Otherwise, this has been great for larger items such as sledge hammers, sheets of siding, filter masks, goggles, and the occasional economy size of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups to help me keep my sanity while working on aforementioned projects at my dad's. read more

Menards has a good selection of pet supplies, I have to come here because my cat is picky about his litter. Thankfully, he's cheap like his dad and prefers the Menards brand. While I'm here I also get cat and human food for excellent prices. They also carry a great selections of paint and canning supplies. read more

This is the cleanest and most up to date Menards, which is why I go back. You can get your grocery shopping done, while picking up a hammer, then plants for your garden. Around the holidays, and weekends, it's not uncommon to see someone playing the piano! Take the escalator upstairs, where the carts magnetize, to avoid slipping. The attached garden center is huge. I will often go to the checkout register here, because inside the lines are so long. The only annoying part is going back inside the main store to grab my rebate forms! Menards often pays you back for shopping with them, just remember to send your rebates off in time. About 4-6 weeks later, a check will come in the mail to be used on anything in store for the next trip. read more

Some months later and yet another bad review. I decided to order online and pick up from the store. Bad idea. The person pulling the product off the shelf didn't know to look closely at the labels to make sure they were giving me the same items. Then the employee helping me decided that he would bring me another size and say "will this work"? What? No... So, I then ordered online and delivered to my house. Same thing. Not I have one right and one wrong item yet again. Either there is no training program or there is no way to cross check orders. This has been such a hassle.... read more

Customer service is nonexistent. Difficult to find any employee period and when you do find one, asking a question is an imposition and beyond the employee's scope of knowledge. We purchased heavy pavers and received no assistance with loading them into our car, which seems like a total liability from a business perspective. Not sure if this a Golden Valley specific issue or a widespread issue with Menards as whole. Regardless, really unfortunate, we will be taking our business elsewhere from now on. read more

Let me start off by saying that this isn't my normal Menards and I was only in there for say 15 minutes tops. This menards was well organized, the employee I dealt with (Betsy) was absolutely fabulous (she was quite the comedian), and everything I needed was on sale (and I got a secondary discount). Most of my time was spent in the outdoors section; picking out stones and plants. They had more choices of stone that other stores, but their plants were seriously lacking. Half of them were dead or just looked extremely sad. :( I honestly cannot comment on much else, but if they put a little more effort into their plants I probably would have given them 5 stars. read more

Oh Menards, you're not what you used to be... This is the Menards that I "grew up at" & always had a special place in my heart for it because of familiarity. Unfortunately, ever since the big remodels that took place all over, the compromise for getting more selection is getting less service. Before the remodels, the Richfield location was actually my favorite because it was the smallest AND it felt like a small town friendly hardware store...but then they remodeled (but that location is for another review ;-). I've been to this location a number of times since the remodel awhile back, but honestly, ALL of the Menard's location have the same feel to it (but prices are nice...darnit, I bet THIS is why people shop at Wal-Mart)...shoppers are nameless & faceless. I walked in with a to-buy list that was going to take hours to find if I didn't find someone to help point me in the right direction (ALWAYS where the fun begins). I started at the Guest Services counter. I'm going to save a couple paragraphs here and just write that they didn't know (& I KNEW that was going to happen...I just wanted to be surprised). I WILL say that I really do adore their paint department. I've only had really nice people help me out and have remarkably sparkling personalities...so beeline it to their paint department; you will feel loved! I will also say that they have a better selection on a number of items that I can't locate anywhere else (besides amazon). When looking for nails, after narrowing it down to a few aisles, I asked for help (because no one offers it no matter HOW MANY times they see you passing them w/ a look of inquiry on your face. Sidenote: *sarcasm alert*) The upside is that my Fitbit got more steps in than I was expecting (especially when walking waaaaay around the two salesmen pitching for DirectTV (c'mon! I'm trying to shop here!). The other upside is that Sunday's are definitely the day to go for the live piano music (totally out of place at a hardware store, of course, but it's still AWESOME!). 742 hours later, I re-emerged back out into the parking lot with all the items I had gone looking in for...except the one item I accidentally left at the paint counter while getting paint mixed. This is my home improvement store that I go to consistently. I run into the same employees often and they are very courteous, friendly and helpful. Prior to COVID the store was always stocked and I've never had difficulty getting or finding what I've needed. This is not about the Menard's store. It is about their rebate system. On two rebates I never received. I have received some for smaller amounts in the past. I don't wait for the 11% off sales anymore. I dislike going through the hoops for the rebate and then possible not receiving it. Now I wait until the item I want is actually on sale if I don't need it right away. I keep a list of things to look for. I agree with Liz E. about the rebate system. On 10/18/2018 she wrote: "I can't understand is why Menards has these big sales with 11% off - but they make the customer go through the hassle of filling out coupons, mailing it in and then waiting for your rebate. Why not just give the 11% off at the register??? I know you're expecting a certain number of people to not send it in - but seriously - this is the least customer friendly sales tactic I've seen in years! Shout-out to Jeff who was running the forklift in the yard on Saturday, July 27 around 7pm, and Mick in plumbing! Husband and I went to Menards to pick up supplies for a lawn sprinkler system, needed a bit of help to make sure we purchased the right parts. "MICK", the gentleman working upstairs in plumbing was super helpful, and gave us tips to help prevent the rain from washing out a newly seeded lawn (burlap!). The 3 large coils of tubing we needed from the outside "yard" appeared to be out of stock, until my husband noticed them about 20 feet up on top of the shelving. Found "JEFF" in the yard, he drove his forklift over and had the pallet down within minutes, then drove to the back of our car so we could load them right in. He worked the forklift like a master, and was super friendly. Menards - keep hiring guys like Mick and Jeff, they are the ones who will keep customers coming back! read more

No frills here, but the prices are cheap and the staff is super nice. I stopped in briefly to return some items I didn't end up using after installing some new ceiling fans. I expected to leave disappointed: I didn't have my receipt, and I had opened one of the packages and realized I had gotten the wrong item. I was going to try to return them anyway! I was very impressed with the teenager working the service desk. No problem with the open package--thanks for bringing back all the pieces. No receipt? The new Menard's stores are ridiculously huge. The good part about that is the massive inventory, but the drawback is that it can be time-consuming if you need to hit a few different departments. I needed plumbing hardware/fittings, laminate floor glue and drywall repair compound. This required me to walk to 4 parts of the massive store (on two levels). Am I being kinda whiny? Yes. Truthfully, I expected this walking in, realizing that this store is aimed at folks with bigger projects. The part about my visit that was irritating though, was how difficult it was to find someone to help me find the items I was looking for. I had to interrupt a conversation to get the guy in plumbing to help me, and there were employees in drywall repair doing nothing as they watched me search for the compound. The massive inventory and convenient location will bring me back, but the customer experience is definitely lacking here. read more

I almost left the store at that point but instead went upstairs to look around and I found plenty of bathroom hooks in the bathroom department. I have loved shopping at menards until I went to the one in golden valley and had to deal with the manager Cody.. I was looking for a matrix blk and decker drill that showed eden prairie had 3 I went their and they didn't have any, manager said he would look and call me back he never did, no big deal they were busy, I understand. So I went to golden valley noticing they had 4 online, I get there and the price is 69.99 and EP had it for 64.99.. at this point I was driving all over and very annoyed with the lack of organizing with menards. I got to the register and asked for the manager about the price. I explained this situation to Cody very politely, he said well unfortunately that's not my problem and I'm "going to stand my ground on my price" ... I explained I've worked in retail before and for $5 to keep a customer happy is worth more than you "standing your ground".
