Now, for starters, when I think of a room "suite" you're expecting pretty nice amenities. You definitely want to feel like you have the comforts of home at your disposal. This room is listed as having. . . White Water Ocean Views King Featherbed Wood-burning Fireplace Mini Fridge Private Bath Tub and Shower So, let's get into it..... Firstly, I found it very easy to reserve the room via the app from Booking.com It's one of my preferred travel reservation methods, and the Inn Keeper John later reached out to confirm payment details and to charge the room just before my stay. That part was very simple. We arrived on Sat 14th around 3 ish in the afternoon to be greeted by one of the hosts named Diane. She is very welcoming and friendly. Gave us a little tour, asked if we needed anything, showed us to our room, etc. Diane gets 10 stars for her individual role within the Bed and Breakfast. Mind you, December is VERY cold in Mendocino. Some roads can be flooded. The ocean waves are angry but beautiful. It's windy and rainy. It's cold!! But I am dating a winter snow bear so she likes to feel the chill while retreating to a comfortable room. For this review, I am going to simplify it with a pros/cons list of how the experience was for 2 days, 2 nights. PROS --- Diane makes homemade cookies daily. Delicious! Delicious homemade breakfast served daily outside the room (picture) Wonderful upstairs views of the ocean tides Best homemade pesto sauce I have ever had during breakfast A very large plush king sized bed with like 12 pillows A mini fridge which is appreciated Strong fast wifi connection A seating area to eat cookies and interact with other guests Walking distance to the town of Mendocino A large enough room where we didn't directly hear too much noise above or below Up front parking right by the Inn You have a set of keys to come and go at all hours from the front locking door to your room. CONS --- Featherbed, you say? It is so plush, that you have zero support for joints. For those of us in our 40s, we went from a relaxing massage in town, to waking up with back and joint pain from it being too feathery. No support. Tub and Shower? Sure. They even have a cute lavender sleep bath salt. What could be the problem. How about that the tub only filled up with barely lukewarm water. My breath has more heat. The tub and shower wasn't cold, but it definitely did not warm us. My partner had to use the tea kettle to boil water and pour me a bath. The lamp on one side of the bed kept flickering and wouldn't turn on. We had one lamp across the room by the sofa. One small lamp on the other side of the bed. One very wobbly lamp on the table by the bay view window. And the bathroom lights. The room is dark and dreary. Oh, let's not forget the wood-burning Fireplace. I have never been so anxiety filled near a fireplace. The fireplace is the only place to really have warmth. The room itself is large and drafty so it will get cold. There's a tiny space heater behind the couch but that does nothing. You could touch it with your hand. The fireplace chain screen that is there as a safety measure so you don't have fiery embers flinging out on the carpet or worse, on you, doesn't close all the way! It is very old and outdated. Downright safety hazard! I was cold every day, and every night. I couldn't get heat from the tub, shower, fireplace, space heater or anything! Obviously, we cuddled and had the bed blankets, but then your back hurts from the pillow softness. The couch is more comfortable. I am not even going out of my way to find negativity with the stay. This is just how it went! For the price of this suite, my experience was very disappointing! I have been cold ever since! We would not stay again.

Staff was friendly and helpful. We checked out too early for the breakfast (starts at 9:00 am), so can't tell you much about that. If in the area, I'd stay again.

The rooms are so cozy, and offer so much more character than your run-of-the-mill hotel. The beds are comfortable and spacious, bathrooms clean and well maintained. You will not regret your decision booking a room here. They also partner with the Skunk Train so make sure you book this place before you buy your tickets! There's also a chocolatier nearby that you must absolutely try. The gift shop near the chocolatier also has so many cute pins, souvenirs, and even alpaca wool socks!

Their grounds are very nicely done with drought tolerant plants. Overall this was a nice stay. I booked our room on hotels.com and you have the choice to either pre-pay, or pay once you arrive - both options being the same price. The only inconvenience for us was that there was no EV charging station on site. We charged at the Tesla chargers a couple of miles away - which was fine, but it definitely is nicer when our car can charge while we're at the hotel.

No noise issues being just off the highway. Never heard my neighbors. Bonuses: bonfire is lit on the property from sundown until 9PM, complete with leather lounge chairs. We loved hanging out here. Spacious dog park for the furry ones. The only minor issue we experienced (which isn't worth removing a star over) is the finicky heat/air units in the rooms. When we arrived, our room was icebox cold, with the A/C blaring at 65 degrees for some reason. We set the unit into heat mode at 69, but had dealt with these kind of units in the past and knew it would take forever for the temperature in the room to become comfortable. We left for dinner and came back to a very comfortable room. This lead us to our final observation: no heating or AC in the bathroom. That makes for one chilly experience in the winter, but certainly not a deterrent to staying here again.

She made us feel welcome, listened to us, and genuinely cared. We had a small issue with our TV that couldn't be fixed, and she went above and beyond to make things right. Her kindness set the tone for our whole stay. And honestly... we didn't even end up needing the TV. In the morning, we woke up to the most amazing surprise -- SEALS, right outside our room! if you want special lodging for a weekend getaway to mendocino, i highly highly recommend the…read morehayloft apartment offered by mendocino preferred lodging. not necessarily for the budget minded traveler at a little under $200 a night, but if you are willing to splurge a bit, you won't regret it. the apartment is nestled in the woods far away from the center of activity so it is very quiet and secluded. it literally has everything. i was completely impressed by my stay there. sure they had a hot tub overlooking the forest...but it was on and ready when we arrived. sure they had a fireplace...but it had enough starter blocks, kindling, and logs for the time of our stay. sure they have a tv and a stereo...but they have discs, movies, and satellite too. sure they have a nice comfortable bed...but it also has a skylight overhead which is almost as good as a mirror. sure they have a full kitchen...but they also had a juicer complete with 12 oranges ready for juicing. did i mention the complimentary brandy... if you are planning a trip up the coast, i urge you to give sue and jim a call. please...do it for your own sake. and if you don't believe me, take a look at the website as they have lots of pics that give you a good feel for the place. they also have other properties to offer with names like cottage cove and oceans spledor. based on my experience at the hayloft, i'm sure these are great places to stay too although the prices start to climb pretty rapidly. the hayloft: sooooo sweeeeet!

This made me afraid to use the 3 DuraFlame logs that were kindly provided lest we die of smoke inhalation. We noticed the note that said there should be "fresh fruit, oranges for the juicer and muffins" we saw, an empty fruit basket and no muffins. OK slightly disappointing but whatever at least there was coffee in the refrigerator and plenty of pots, pans, silverware, plates etc in a spotless kitchen. A trip into the bathroom revealed crappy glycerin soap at the sink, and in the shower.. OK slightly miffed now.. when we pay $211/night I expect spa style soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and maybe a shower cap. When I perched upon the toilet I was startled by the seat shifting a good 1" or so. I also noticed the bathroom sink had dirty looking cracks in it. I could have forgiven the bathroom except the crappy soap and lack of spa style toiletries. The love seat was cute and the television was of a decent size, I'm not sure how big I would guess 25". However the love-seat was pretty hard and not particularly comfortable. One of those "looks good but don't sit on it" jobs. Off to the bedroom, there was a note when we arrived that the shade to the ultra-cool skylight over the bed, one of the reasons I picked this rental was broken and that they had left it in the closed position to allow us to sleep.. which was nice.. but I wanted to stare up at the stars not a black-out blind. Still bearable, UNTIL we laid down to check the comfort level of the bed, upon visual inspection it appeared to have a padded topper so I was hoping for the best. Unfortunately that padded topper must have been placed on solid granite! OMG! After 1 minute of lying on my side my hip felt bruised! There is NO WAY I could ever sleep on this bed, my boyfriend agreed. So we were there maybe an hour, and already left to search for something else knowing full well that we likely just ATE the $422 this room cost us, but also not wanting to ruin our vacation because we couldn't sleep the whole time. Before we left I looked to see what the HORRIBLE mattress was made of, it was a Serta Perfect Sleeper that looked like it might have seen a few years. We've had trouble with these at other locations, they're VERY hard. We found a very nice room on Noyo Harbor for approximately $98 a night that had a better view than the Hayloft, a MUCH more comfortable bed, and even a continental breakfast. It was at The Harbor Lite Lodge in Fort Bragg. I won't go into how much I liked them here but I will review them shortly. I think we should call the credit card company and see if they'll give us our money back for the other room, we rented it with the expectation of at least being able to sleep in the bed, and that didn't happen.. *UPDATE* Today we received an email stating they had refunded one of the two nights we booked, and the security deposit. Normally they require a 30 day cancellation but considering the circumstances they refunded part of our money. I didn't expect that AT ALL and am pleased I think that is 100% fair.
