The food here was lackluster, with Velveeta in the quesadillas and the only available veggies shredded lettuce and tomatoes. My husband got an enchilada plate that was a uniform brown color- brown enchilada sauce, tan rice, brown retried beans. Not even the dreaded shredded lettuce!! The salsas were decent, but chips were stale. The ambiance is festive and dominated with Corona paraphernalia. The prices are cheap, but maybe not enough to match the food quality. Overall, pretty poor, but we were hungry and they fed us, and the server was exceedlingly nice. And hey - we didn't get food poisoning!! I'd go somewhere else... read more

If they had negative stars this place would get it. I gave this place a shot even after reading the previous reviews. My husband was a local and said it was good. So let's try it!! My first tip this place was going to be a problem was when they asked if we wanted something to drink and asked if we wanted the fountain pop with a free refill. Meaning you only get 1 refill! Which is fine. I don't drink a whole lot but don't limit it! She then brings out hot salsa and mild. That's it. She then asks if we want a few chips with it? Hmmmm. No. Let's just drink it from the plastic cup you brought it in. Of course we want chips!!! After about 5-6 minutes she brought the chips. I'm thinking they made them fresh since it took so long and we were literally the only patrons in the place. Nope. We got cold, stale chips that she probably ran down to the gas station to get. On to the main dishes.... My husband had tacos and a burrito. I had chicken chimichanga and my daughter had an enchilada. Well, it would have been nice to eat with the family but the friendly waitress first brought my daughter's dish. 2 minutes later my husband's and then 4 minutes later mine finally came out. At this point I am done with this place since everyone is already done eating. I took one bite of what they call a chimichanga and I pushed it away. It tasted like canned chicken soaked in grease, wrapped around a tortilla that sat in grease before frying then topped with either American cheese or cheddar. Not sure which one since I didn't make it that far. The waitress comes back after 5 minutes. Again, the only patrons in here and she asks if there is anything wrong. I told her it wasn't what I expected. Her response was "bummer". Really? Absolutely disgusting and pricey! $40 later I am ready to be sick. Save yourself the time and money. Pass this place up and go to Taco Bell! read more

This use to be my favorite restaurant to go to always! I thought that no one could beat Mendoza's. Over the years the food has gone downhill and the service has gotten bad. My family gets alot of carry out oders from here. Lately they have been SO stingy with the hot sauce. I ALWAYS offer to pay extra for it. One time we got 2 little plastic cups like they hold probably 2 tablespoons, for 4 burritos. I went back in and the waitress acted scared to ask the boss lady for more. She then said that it would be .50 for each extra container. That's fine but sometimes you pay for the extra and sometimes, you don't. They portions and the burritos have gotten smaller. Heck I'd rather pay more and get a nice portion than get a smaller portion and be charged more. I've stayed away from here for quite a while due to these things. Probably the worst meal I've ever had. Got bean and cheese dip as an appetizer that was served with greasy stale chips and was basically a slice of american cheese melted onto some canned refried beans. The chicken in the dinner was obviously shredded canned chicken and tasted awful. The beef tasted like it was seasoned with Ortega seasoning from the grocery store. The restaurant itself could have been a cool setting (it's in an old garage) but was dirty, outdated, and dingy, and I wasn't confident eating food from the coolers. The staff did seem nice and friendly, but they didn't ask how the meal was for us a single time (we were clearly not too pleased with our meal). Overall it was extremely dissappointing. I could have gotten some canned ingredients and packs of taco shells and seasoning at the store and had a cheaper, better meal. read more

Ate here for brunch after staying the night at the Super 8 in town. Our party of three, including a latina, found the food to be perfectly good in every respect. It was rather bland and the question about whether or not we wanted onions was odd for a Mexican place (we all did), and the selection is horribly, horribly poor, but on getting the food we found it to be perfectly tasteful and I was assured, at least somewhat authentic to what cheap food in Mexico would be like: Conclusion, the locals don't really appreciate Mexican cuisine here, so the cook makes what will sell, which isn't much. It's nothing special, the ambience is terrible, but they are producing decent food within those limits, and it's probably fine by the middle-American palate. I found nothing wrong with it, just nothing to stand out, either. read more

Love the comments about being the only patron and needing to ask for chips once served salsa. I can relate. It wasn't pricey but we didn't get much either. I had a bean burrito, tasted like canned refried beans and shredded cheddar. No seasoning. Friend got the chicken chimichanga. Just shredded chicken inside. Awful. A couple at another table were grimacing as they ate their painfully bad food. The woman told the waiter that her Sprite tasted like 99% water. The husband mentioned that the chips were the most stale chips he'd ever had. As we left, we witnessed something we will never forget: Employees were taking all of the salsa we hadn't eaten--both from our table's salsa dish and other tables, SALSA THAT CUSTOMERS HAD ALREADY DIPPED INTO--and they were actually PUTTING THE LAST BITS OF SALSA BACK IN A GIANT, UNCOVERED CONTAINER IN THE FRIDGE!!! I love Mendoza the owner is there 24/7 her husband died and she never gave up. and The food is authentic. I get it a lot of you white folk don't know the actual difference between commercial Hispanic and the real thing. Obviously she's stayed in business for years so somebody likes her food wether they choose to dine in or out. Who cares if it's a dive restaurant the food makes up for it. Her sauce is fantastic her burritos have real shredded cheese not velveeta by far. Visited here last year. The food was okay at best. It wasn't very authentic Mexican. It was someone's take on Mexican. The salsa was in a small little plastic container and wasn't fresh and the chips were so stale. Since that is the first impression of a Mexican restaurant...strike one. The server was nice but if you like authentic Mexican food, this isn't the place. Perhaps if you like hybrid Mexican with a more Italian sauce taste...maybe you might not object. If I could give zero stars, I would. We only visited because it was on Restaurant.com, and the coupon was rejected as soon as we were seated, anyway. The restaurant does not have a liquor license, so only serves beer and Mikes Hard Lemonade type malt drinks. We had to request chips and salsa, and when I saw the waitress get the salsa from a lower shelf that the beer sits in, I was sick to see that it was in an uncovered glass bowl. While waiting for our food to arrive, I turned around to the sound of a microwave running, and realized it was my chimichanga being heated. Will never return. read more

June 22, 2015. I can't recommend this place to anyone. Wait staff were kinda friendly but were not even aware of what items were on their menu. Forgetting desserts for kids meals and messing up 2 orders even though they wrote it down. I could get past that if the food was really good, but as others have said velveta cheese and bland chicken don't justify a $12 meal. I get more flavor and enjoyment from a $5 pizza. Long and short of it. There are many better options around. Don't waste your money here. read more

Yuk. This place stinks. Very poor attempt at mexican food. I ordered a burrito with beans cheese and verde sause. Thats it. I got beans and cheese - no sause. The burrito was skimpy, not wrapped well at all. Just kind of plopped on the plate. I had been waiting for my coffee for over 5 minutes, so I went to the counter to get it because I only had a few minutes. I asked the older lady/ owner if she could grab it for me and she blew me off. The owner was rude, and this was the second time I had tried this place, and had the same experience. Poor food, poor service, and a crappy attitude from the owner behind the counter. Do yourself a big favor and go to the gas station down the road and get a frozen burrito, and heat it in the micro. Love love their Mexican pizza and it was double stacked. Great price too. Not big on atmosphere but the food makes up for it. Had cheese enchiladas too and it was good but would have been better if heated longer. Little on the cool side. We were told everything is homemade even the salsa which was good as well. read more

My family and I stopped in after spending a couple nights at nearby (a 20-minute drive) Kalahari. I'd purchased a Restaurant.com gift certificate the month before to use for one of our meals while away from home. When we pulled up, I have to admit, it wasn't what I'd expected. We weren't impressed when we walked in either. The decor would probably suit the late-night tourists the best. However, it smelled so good inside and we were greeted by two friendly women: the cook and our waitress (I'm sorry that I didn't get their names!) We all ordered something different (I had the combination plate - a little bit of everything good, my husband ordered a taco salad - dry and enchilada with homemade sauce, 13yo ordered a chili dog and chili fries - each with homemade chili sauce, and we ordered the kid's meal quesadilla for our toddler, plus we ordered supreme nachos as an appetizer. There were no complaints at our table! Everything was fried but it was oh-so good, and I was satisfied with the toppings on my food (shredded lettuce, cheese, onions and tomatoes) The two ladies working were very friendly and we all chatted throughout our meet. I was disappointed to see that the only guacamole on the menu was not ala carte to be served with chips. The menu was a little confusing in some places too.
