Do they sell regular bottles of rum and piña colada mix? Going to Kauai in 2 weeks and don't want to buy the huge Costco size.

Yes they have rum, but I'm not sure if they have the mix. At least they carry a variety of juices.

We love this little institution of a liquor store in Hanalei. They've been there since 1946?!…read moreThat's amazing. It's your one stop shop for drinks of every variety, snacks, musubis and their awesome souvenir tees & hats. I bought 4 tee shirts. 2 were gifts.... They loved the tees as one I gave to my dad. He wears it all the time. My girl bought a hat. She loves it. It's perfect for the beach. Love the old logo. Love the new logo. The older gentleman that was manning the register was super cool. Not sure, he might be the manager or the owner. He asked us whereabouts we were visiting from and we told him Southern California but that I was originally from San Francisco. He was telling us he used to work the fishing boats up and down the California coast. We enjoyed talking to him and hope to see him when we return next year to Hanalei town. Located right in the middle of town on the main drag along Kuhio Highway. Just after Titus Kinimaka's Quiksilver store and before the plaza BIllabong (AI Forever) is in. Cant miss it. Parking out front. Make sure you stop in and buy something.

Only negative is that the selection of local hard seltzer was really lacking, we found there to be much more variety at local grocery stores. (they had a wide selection of "Big Seltzer" (Truly, White Claw) though) They do have some decent HI-brewed canned beer though. (such as Maui Brewing's Pilsner, pictured)

Has ample free parking in a cute little mall. There are self checkout machines in Princeville but not in the Foodlands I know on Oahu. I took a pic below. The store is clean and well stocked. I did not need to interact with any staff.

So during our trip to the…read morenorth shore of Kauai, we stopped into this location to explicitly get a variety for our lunch on the beach. It turned out great. Foodland is a Hawaiian original, founded in Honolulu on 1948 as Hawaii's first modern supermarket, and continues to be owned by the founder's family. It has 31 locations across the islands, but only one is still open in Kauai (the Lihue location closed during Covid). It's kinda hidden, so would need to explicitly look for it. It's a medium size supermarket. The poke station and hot deli are located together with the same associates manning both. It was busy and crowded around that area, so important to pull a number and wait. Once my number was called, got seven different items and the associate was patient. My wife doesn't like poke, so made herself a hot lunchbox for a good price (one Korean chicken drumstick at $2.50 each; cheddar cheese tots $2.79 for 0.31 lbs; one corn cob $1.29) while I made a deconstructed poke bowl ($3.38 for 2 scoops of white rice; chili garlic crunch ahi $4.80 for 0.30 lbs; Poke fresh ahi hawaiian style $11.56 for 0.34 lbs; california style ahi $4.80 for 0.30 lbs). My favorite was the California style, with the avocado. It reminds me of the taste of a California roll. Hate to admit it, but paying for almost triple the price for fresh ahi tuna isn't worth it...the from frozen was still great as a poke.

I was told at check-in that we were " upgraded" to a 3 bedroom. I was like hmmmm? Ok....but I don't need a 3 bedroom, a 2 bedroom is fine. Not sure if my paid reservation was given to someone else? The 3 bedroom upgrade only had one room with a/c. We definitely needed it the nights we were there and all of us ended up sleeping in the same room each night cuz it was too stinkin' hot. So it would've been more cost effective for us to have just rented a 1 bedroom instead. Very expensive for what's provided all around. Pool is nice. Housekeeping staff friendly and I give them props as I didn't see one roach or centipede the whole time in my cabin. There's a front desk person whose from Stockton, CA (can't remember his name) very friendly. A different front staff person a female and local however was not friendly or helpful at all and when I went to inquire about something at the desk and treated me as if I was a absolute bother to her and like I was asking the dumbest question she's ever had to answer. Of which it quite possibly was...but for what this place costs per night and a tacked on " resort fee" you need to at a minimum pretend that you don't think I'm and idiot. This is run by " coast" properties now. It used to be run by Aston. It's really gone down hill, you don't get what appears on the website, nor do most cottages look as great as their lobby as reassured by others also staying there when we got to talking at the pool. Never staying there again. I go often to this side of the island because all of my family lives on the west side. So to the rude lady at the front desk...no, I'm not just a "dumb haole," But am "hapa", and if I wasn't? You should still treat like a local. Got aloha?

The convenience of having a kitchen and bar-b-que were a plus with young children. My husbands favorite was the front porch where we could sit back and enjoy the sunset while the kids played bocce and croquet on the lawn. I would recommend an ocean view or ocean front if available.
