Not sure, he might be the manager or the owner. He asked us whereabouts we were visiting from and we told him Southern California but that I was originally from San Francisco. He was telling us he used to work the fishing boats up and down the California coast. We enjoyed talking to him and hope to see him when we return next year to Hanalei town. Located right in the middle of town on the main drag along Kuhio Highway. Just after Titus Kinimaka's Quiksilver store and before the plaza BIllabong (AI Forever) is in. Cant miss it. You can feel the care, passion, and connection these folks have to the land in every bottle. We especially appreciated learning about their farming practices and how thoughtfully they source and grow the ingredients that go into these amazing spirits. The tasting with the owner was such a memorable experience. He was incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and generous with his time, answering all of our questions and giving us a wonderful tour of the distillery. His passion for what he does really shined through in every bottle. We loved the ʻOkolehao made with Ti root and cane sugar, it was such a unique taste of Hawaiʻi and made the perfect gift for my boss when I got home (he promised to share). The vanilla rum, dark rum, and lilikoi liqueur were also incredible, and we loved getting to try such a creative variety of spirits. Hanalei Spirits is a true gem. The quality of the spirits, the care for the land, and the genuine hospitality made this visit unforgettable. We're so grateful for the experience and can't wait to enjoy these special bottles at home!

It's located at the beautiful Kilohana Plantation, so even if you're not a big rum drinker, it's worth visiting. You can wander through the gardens, stop by the sweet shop, grab a bite at Gaylord's Restaurant, or catch the luau. It's just a really nice place to spend an afternoon. It's highly recommend making a reservation online. However we couldn't book online, but we called about an hour before and were able to get in. I also had no idea the tasting itself was complimentary, which made the experience even better. Our Rumtender, Randy, was awesome! He walked us through the history of Kōloa Rum, explained each variety, and shared his favorite ways to enjoy them. It felt more like chatting with a friend than sitting through a tasting. Safe to say we were convinced--we ended up bringing home two bottles! Whether you're a rum fan or just looking for something fun and different to do in Kauai, I'd definitely recommend adding this to your itinerary.

Every day is a different experience as they use different rums and premixes. We came on the Mai Tai day with about 10 others. When signing up, it looks like they can sometimes charge, but there was no cost when we signed up. It is located across from a modern shopping area, next to the local highway (not fast). You enter the plantation area that is a wide open flat grass kept area leading to large older building and entertainment like plantation tours, train and restaurant. Drive the little winding path to the left side and there is the Koloa building with a gift shop and tasting room. When you check in at the gift shop you can browse or wait on the porch. They will check ID and confirm no children. In the bar tasting room, you will be given a large shot and then tasters, not more than 2 shots total in liquor. You can ask for water, and you can use one of the two shot glasses to pour any leftovers into if you don't like one of the rums. NO SHARING, it is part of their license requirements. Great rum. I will not explain because that is part of the experience and they do it much better. Friendly staff. No pressure. After the tasting, they offered to take pictures and answer questions. This is a good stop for rainy days or when you are on your way from one side of island to the other. Located on the south side on the main road (highway).

On Kress Street just off Rice Street in Lihue, it's easy to find with lots of town parking all around. The building has garage doors on all sides, so when open you get to enjoy the fresh island air and plenty of sunshine. They also have cozy lighting at night. Despite being brand new, it already has a well developed feel with many beer styles on tap including all the classics like a pils, IPAs, hazies, and dark beers. They also have seltzers, bubbly teas, and non-alcoholic beverages. The horizontal fermenters are the centerpiece behind the wood bar; they gleam and catch the eye. To the back left is their main brewing area, which has plenty of space to expand and can which is coming soon. A merchandise area and future to-go beer fridge are to the left. Seating is either at the bar or one of many tables around. The layout is great for small groups or even large group events. You're welcome to bring in your own food, and there are a ton of local takeout options within walking distance. I tried every beer on tap, and can honestly say they're already making high quality styles. This is a great spot and I can easily see them making beer on Kauai for a long time coming.
