This was my first experience with Menlo Art Cleaners. I hope this experience continues. My previous dry cleaner closed its business (for good). At the suggestion of an acquaintance, I tried Menlo Art Cleaners to have a very nice, poly-filled winter coat (for very cold weather) dry cleaned. It came back looking wonderful -- I hadn't had it cleaned in a long time, tho' I don't wear it a lot. The price was exceptional, probably less than I would have paid at my previous cleaners. The timing was roughly a week. I was in no hurry, but my first experience will, hopefully, make me a repeat customer. read more

I have been a customer here for many years. Though this is the most reasonably priced laundry in town, I am sorry to say that his business now has a new owner and does not provide the same quality of service as before. I have spoken with the new owner regarding my concerns, and he is agreeable but there is not much improvement. Though they claim to use a "Green Process" for cleaning, they aren't anymore. Shirts have come back with either perfume odors or smelled of wash water. Commercial products labeled "Tide" and "Kirkland" are visible in the washer area, and I doubt they are green products. The pressing is not as meticulous as before. A few of the collars of twill dress shirts show signs of being pressed so hot that the interfacing began to melt. The owner claims this is normal for this fabric, but it had not happened in over 20 years and now it is happening to all of them. They are very expensive to replace! I have also observed that they scrub collars with a stiff brush and I am finding shirt after shirt that is worn out all along the back of the neck. I have also not seen this before in 20 years. I have enjoyed years of great service at Menlo Art when Steve Lee owned it but now I am frustrated and ready to move on. read more

After wearing a white dress to a formal, I was left searching for a dry cleaner that could restore the dress to it's natural state of white rather than cranberry juice dyed pink. My friend recommended Menlo Art Cleaners for their natural and green processing, and I was pleasantly surprised. The owner was very honest with me about pricing after seeing the dress ($19 for a white cocktail length dress), and even called to let me know that it would take a little longer since he wanted to make sure everything came out. I ended up suggesting Menlo Art to a friend who hadn't done his dry-cleaning for 3 months...and I think price-wise, he was pleasantly surprised as well. I don't have any complaints. I turned my clothes in, got a 5% discount as a first time customer, and the lady even let me pick up my clothes after their closing time (I was 1 minute late) and she actually booted the system up for me. Thank you, kind soul :) It is quite pricey though. read more

I felt like I was in a Larry David episode. Ok, you have a few work shirts or poly/cotton blend suit to dry clean, yeah sure. This place can probably handle it. Fine silk or anything you really love - no flippin way. After an unexpected and extended argument with the owner, I felt shaken. Without greeting me he blurts out "I didn't do this...take me to small claims court." I get it, you don't want to give up what you earn. Let's be real though. I gently show him where the damage was done on both sleeves . He brings up God and accused me of the damage! I ask him to explain the process of caring for silk clothing. He shows me. Right in front of my eyes his employee used a hot steaming iron with a sleeve. Further damaging the silk. Unfortunately he aggressively held his position and tells me he's going to give me $50 store credit. Yeah...no. After being bullied he gave me a check- not for the full amount I paid for my dress. Best dry cleaners in town! I've been coming here for the past 2 years, and except for 1 mishap (see below & thus the 1 star deduction), haven't had a problem with any of the dry cleaning that I've gotten done here. Plus, the guy that works here (I think he's the owner), is always super nice & helpful. He even remembered my name after my second time here! Just goes to show how meticulous he is about his business. My one word of caution: Do not bring your leather items to be cleaned here. They outsource their leather and fur cleaning services, so it technically wasn't their fault. I took my white leather jacket in to be cleaned during the summer. When I got it back, I didn't bother to check it...but come fall, when I'm ready to wear it again, as soon as I took it out of the plastic cover, I knew it would never be the same. It lost its buttery softness and the pockets on the front were all stretched and deformed, like the cleaners really stuck their hand in there to get cleaned. I could have gone back, but never got around to it. But I've learned my lesson. So now I bring everything there that I know they can do in house because they're terrific at that. :) read more

Amazing customer service, and great at what they do! I splashed DNA loading dye (which contains 2 dark, concentrated blue dyes) on my favorite shirt. When I brought it in just before closing on Tuesday, Steve told me that he wasn't sure if he'd be able to get it out, but he'd try a small spot first thing in the morning and I should come back Wednesday to let him know if I thought he should finish getting the rest of the spots out. When I came back at noon on Wednesday (prepared for the worst), Steve said "I have bad news, you lost your chance to get a new shirt." He got out every single spot, and it looks just like new! In 5 minutes, I had my shirt back and I was headed home. I'm so impressed! I will definitely be taking all my dry cleaning there in the future. AND it's a green cleaner. Which makes me feel way less guilty about dry cleaning my clothes. read more

A little pricey, but it's green and convenient. Rather than using the old dry cleaning system, this outfit offers gentle laundering - which is actually a "wet process" - but they still will press your suits and shirts. I prefer this cleaner over the Hoot & Toot right across the street. read more

Well, this is my second review about this Dry Cleaner in response to the comment from the owner. He claims that he offered me to do " special treatment". He LIES! He told me that no other dry cleaner can clean this dress better and what he offered me was as follows: Go to any other cleaners and if they could clean this better then bring the coat and the receipt back so that I will give you a partial refund!!! I explained to him that I do not have the time to bring this jacket back after it has been cleaned by another dry cleaner but he insisted that is the only way that he can give me refund! I am not sure where the owner has learned running his business but he first must learn that when a customer brings a clothing for CLEANING that means that he/she wants his/her clothing to be cleaned EVERYWHERE including the the armpits. If he does not get that then I don't know why anyone wants to try this business. The owner (named Steve) is an unprofessional, dishonest man who runs a crappy business hence I strongly discourage anyone from visiting this business. I have taken items to this cleaner a few times without problems--no worse and no better than other cleaners. However, after my most recent experience, I will not return. I had a silk dress that was dry-clean-only. I realized it had a few spots on it, took it out of my closet, and it acquired, mmm, pet damage. Menlo Art assured me that they would do what they could and that they understood the dress was dry-clean only. Without notifying me, they decided to put it through a regular wash, which, suffice to say, ruined the dress. (If I had wanted it washed, I would have done it myself!) The sheen is gone, it is now a couple of sizes smaller and misshapen. Then they had the chutzpah to ask for $16. Avoid. read more

My wedding dress was a very detailed dress and I was wondering where to dry clean it too. So my friend recommended that I got to here, I was hesitating thinking that he might ruin my dress, the owner told me a very detailed explanation of risks. I listened to him and he asked me to think about it. I think this was generous because he didn't try to force me and he also felt as if this was his dress too. I thought about it and I came in the store crossing my fingers that my one-of a-kind dress wouldn't be ruined. I let him wash it even though I had to pay a little extra. I knew it was worth it. When it came out, it was magnificent and I was thrilled to wear it. It looked just as it looked when I was window shopping with my fiance. I was so honored and I really wanted to thank him!! I wanted to put in a plug for this place after they helped me avoid a near dry-cleaning crisis. I was headed to a horse show for the weekend, dropped off my show clothes on a Monday afternoon, and asked for them to be ready by Wednesday evening so I could pick them up on my way out of town. I asked the guy helping me for the closing time on Wednesday, and erroneously heard him say 8:30 p.m. I drove up two days later at 7:30 (never having thought to re-check the closing time clearly printed on my receipt-- who the heck stays open past 6 p.m. in downtown Menlo Park anyway!?), walked up to the main entrance, and felt my heart sink as I noticed all the lights were off realized my terrible mistake. I started rapping on the door, hoping someone would be in there to save me from being totally screwed without my competition clothes, and sure enough, the same gentlemen who'd helped me a few days earlier popped out from behind a corner a few minutes later and let me in. I'm sure he was just about to leave and go home, and he could've easily ignored me, but out of the goodness of his heart he opened the door for me, gently reprimanded me, retrieved my huge pile of clothing, and even offered me a new client discount despite my obnoxious knocking and tardiness. Fantastic service. I got an inkstain on a very nice linen blazer and when my local cleaner could not get the stain out, they sent me to Menlo Art. At that point, I was pretty much resigned to throwing the blazer away--even checked the website of the store where I bought it, and it was no longer for sale. So at Menlo Art, Steve told me he would remove a little of the stain and email me photographs to show me what it would look like after. A couple hours later I got the photos and it looked ok. So I gave him the go-ahead. Next day I picked it up. The stain was gone, the blazer looked great--much better than in the photo. On top of that, Steve said he didn't want money because I had already paid for a cleaning at the other cleaners, who was a friend of his for ten years and they help each other out. Amazing!
