The skill level applied to repairs at this shop is truly amazing. We have taken numerous items here to be rewoven and each and every one comes back looking like there was never any damage. It is true the turnaround time on repairs can be onger than you might like but that is because they are very busy which we take as a tribute to the wonderful work they do. Walked in close to closing on a Friday and was quoted 3 weeks to fix a tiny hole (we're talking the size of a pin head!!) in my mini kilt. When I questioned why a tiny hole would take 3 weeks, the woman relented and said 2 weeks, and she'll call me when it's ready. Two weeks to the day I call to check on the status and find out they haven't even looked at it! Several days later I get a voicemail saying it's done, but I was out of town by that time. When I was finally back and came to pick up, it was around (you guessed it) 3 weeks. They charged me $50 to repair the single, tiny hole. The repair seems to be good, but I don't care what it involved- $50 is waaaay too much. If you go, get a quote before accepting anything. Also, their tiny store is crammed full of clothing. There's shopping bags full of garments stacked all over, and no discernable order. I hand wrote my info on a note that was pinned to my garment. I was worried they would lose my mini kilt that was given to me from my parents. read more

Exceptional work. These women are miracle workers. I've taken heirloom quality clothing, as well as contemporary pieces to them for almost 30 years. For example, my grandfather's Irish cable knit sweater with moth holes. They rewove the complex cable patterns, with exact matching yarn... the end result looked as if there had never been a hole. Their work is in high demand, so you might have to wait... but the wait is entirely worth it. read more

Excellent work done very inexpensively! They did an excellent job repairing a suit that had a hole in it so that the repair is essentially invisible. They cautioned me when I first brought the suit in that their work takes time and they have a very long waiting list. I took a pair of lightweight jeans that I needed for the hot weather to have the zipper replaced.They were purchased a while a go at Sierra Trading Outpost in Reno NV, and like most items that are sold through liquidators there is usually a blemish or some reason they did not sell very well. With these jeans it was the zipper! It would not stay up every time I sat down! They were a great pair of designer jeans I really did not want to part ways with so I took them to Menlo Atherton Reweavers. The are down to two lady's that work there, so it took a bit longer than I thought to get them done. I stopped by to see where they were in the queue and to my surprise found they happened to be next in line to get done. These gals do very good reweaving work. I've picked up many a bargain at a thrift store with one flaw--a rip or a hole in the garment. A quick trip to this place and the hole is fixed, Each job has been invisible with great inspection on my end. The location is small and humble (they were on University Drive in times gone by). The owner is originally from another country but has very good English skills. You can tell by her work that she has been done reweaving for years. All the women who work here are very busy getting the task at hand done, so don't expect a super friendly greeting when you arrive. One will gal will stop and help you when the timing is right. I couldn't believe my luck when a friend mentioned this place -- I knew right away that they were the ones to save my expensive and delicate sweaters that were hanging in my closet only because I paid so much for them and they got snagged or came undone the first few wears... Nina took in my sweaters and did a fantastic job with the fixes. I also had them fix a sweater dress and she had brilliant ideas on other efficient fixes. I was thrilled--NEW LIFE for my beloved BCBG items! I picked up my stuff yesterday. I'm glad I can still wear it. It was worth $30 or so to perk up a couple $150 sweater. But I docked stars for service here. First off, when I dropped off my stuff, upon seeing a different area code I was informed that I had better call in to check on when it would be done, usually a week. OK... Turns out, i called and then I did receive a call to my IL area code (why? when I had left a message from a 650...) saying that my things were ready. But when I showed up, no one could find my stuff. I was asked to check for my things on a rack. I did so and then moved on to the rack next door. I was scolded. Literally scolded, "no, not that one!" I explained that I had already looked in the other one, to which she responded, "no you didn't." So I stood aside. THEN I was scolded for not helping. I was waiting. I had made a special trip out of work to make sure I could pick these up before closing time. After being scolded for not helping, I kept looking. Who knew? IT wasn't organized. Just a bunch of hangers and bags. We called Nina. She eventually called back, JUST as we were discovering my Target bag filled with my things. I was scolded yet again, "You see, that is why you should have been helping." And AGAIN as I walked out the door, "Next time you have to help more." Are you freaking kidding me? I don't mind helping give a look, but to scold me for NOT doing your job properly when I have no idea of your system...I don't want there to be a next time. Sadly they did a great job fixing my items. So if I'm in a bind, I don't know where I'll go. But frankly, that was the worst possible service I've experienced in a good long while, and I am offended. I've taken 3 sweaters to Nina for reweaving, and can't tell where they were fixed. They all look perfect! I have to hold light up to the back, and even then, the work is barely noticeable. She did two cashmere sweaters, one of which was a basketweave design. At drop-off, she said, "We'll try our best. This is a difficult pattern." It was perfect! Don't expect a quick turnaround, as she's very busy, and obviously takes pride in her work. But if you want a completely restored garment, it's worth the wait. read more

They do the impossible. Buy a two piece size 8 outfit and need it redesigned for a size 12 person? Sure, why not? Find that moths have destroyed the woolen designer coats your girlfriend bought 40 years ago in Paris? Want them to look the way they did 40 years ago? No problem. Takes a little time, but no problem. And they are creative and imaginative in finding solutions. I have in the past used businesses designated as "tailoring," but their work is incomparably better. read more

I would honestly give this place a negative star if I could. I went in with confidence, being referred by somebody in the industry. I had a nice Nordstroms Sport Coat I was very fond of, but noticed a month had been equally fond. I had a hole about the size of the ball end of a needle... probably wouldnt have been noticed, but I knew it was there so it bothered me. I went in, showed it to them and asked if they could do anything. I explained that if they couldnt, just please be honest because I would rather not spend the money for a shoddy looking job; or possibly make it look worse. She went back and forth a few times....."oh, this is a very difficult fabric....its in a very difficult spot....the pattern - its very hard to match." All reasonable responses, so I actually pushed for not doing it if she wasnt sure she could. To which she immediately said leave it here, ill take a look at it, call you and let you know. About a week later I got a call saying my coat was ready, please come pick it up. Ok....I guess they were able to work with it. WRONG! This was absolutely horrendous! There was literally a square patch over the small hole. About a quarter inch by a quarter inch, I didnt even know what to say as I looked at it...I honestly just stood there for a moment trying to figure out what to say. The best part was, she knew how horrible a job it was; so as I looked at it (not saying a word), she defensively told me, "Its was in a very hard spot... very hard to match the pattern." We had already gone over this, which is why I repeated lets not do it if it is going to look bad. Not only did she take the liberty to do it and not call me to tell me she was going to and how much it would cost - but the jacket is now completely unwearable...very disappointing. My favorite part was when she told me that is will be $50, followed by the excuses of hard pattern to work with, again. I honestly sat there for a few minutes thinking whether it was worth refusing to pay for. Somehow it came to a personal integrity thing and I shelled out $50. I regret every cent I gave. Subsequent to this, I went to the person who referred me and told him what happened...to which he replied, "yeah, sometimes they do great work, other times its total sh*t." Would have been good to know that before. read more

I dropped off a pair of pants to be taken in, and two pillowcases for mending in late Ocotber. Now, in March, my(wool) pants are ready, too late to wear anymore. My pillowcases did have the zippers re-set. But the cost was astronomical, and way beyond what I remember being quoted (about $60 at the time - and I thought that was high). I was charged $40 for the pants and $80 for thepair of pillowcases. If you have money to burn, this is the place for you! read more

I have sewed my own clothes for several years now. Before I could make my own clothes, I went to Innocencia for all my alterations. She always wanted me to look my best. She insured this with her critical eye and her alteration skills. If something wasn't worth altering i.e. it did my body no favors, she would tell me and therefore wouldn't get the revenue. I remember the time I brought in a high end designer skirt from the 1970's. I asked her to make it fit me. I couldn't wait to show off my "vintage" skirt. After I tried it on, she looked at me and said it wasn't worth it. I was grateful to her for saving my money and not walking around in an unflattering garment. I still go to her when I have fit issues with the garments I create. I treasure her frank opinions plus she is a dear person. I consider her prices very reasonable. I know what it takes to make a well fitting garment that enhances the wearer. read more

I have gone to this shop for over 20 years. Recently, the oldest member their sewing team, Teresa, retired. She was the best; her reweaving a work of art! Since her retirement the business has gone straight downhill. Nina and Inocencia do not reweave well at all! Almost a year ago I took 2 sweaters to have reweaving, and 3 pair of pants to be shortened by machine. My husband picked up the pants and when we went to wear them they had not been shortened yet we had been charged $40.00! I was furious! I went back and told them; they insisted they had shortened them! No refund! I took my 2 sweaters (which had not been touched Ina year) and left! I will never go back!! read more

I'm so sad. I used to love this place and recommend them to everyone. They did totally invisible repairs of a few moth holes in cashmere sweaters for me, making them good as new. Last time, though, I had a couple of sweaters where the stitching holding on the collars had unraveled a bit and needed to be reattached. Took them in thinking it would be the usual flawless work. Instead, I got two sweaters with really obvious, lumpy, uneven repairs in poorly matched thread. It's bad enough that I think I might rip it out and try just sewing it myself with regular thread. I can't see how it would look worse. So disappointed. I'll try them again for minor hole repair, but won't do anything like the collars again. read more

What does it take to get a good alteration? I mean come on people, I have to admit I used to hate getting my clothing (in particular my pants) altered. I don't know why exactly but I have a feeling it has something to do with the fact I was bitter about being short. After many years of trying to find the perfect place that would not ruin my jeans and would make the length AS LONG AS POSSIBLE (duh people, short people where heals!!), I found this place through my sister of all people. I walked in, was greeted by little old eyes staring at me until one finally said "hello" and was promptly told to go behind the curtain and change. Adjusting and figuring out the length took no time at all and before I knew it I was out the door and back in the glorious sunshiny weather. The best part of all is the fact that I have asked if they could please please please do a same day alteration and even though it was a little bit more expensive they had no problem getting the job done.!! Fabulous just for that. Of course, I do not ask them to do that every time but it is nice to know that if you have an "emergency" alteration they will help you out.!! So, I would definitely give these ladies your business because they are nice and do a really good job. Just remember it is Cash only...!! read more

It all started when I was shaving the pills off my new cashmere sweater when all of sudden I heard a noise that didn't sound good. I looked down and noticed my pill shaver had shaven a hole in my cashmere sweater. Thinking that there was nothing I could do I did search the question how to repair holes in cashmere. Menlo Altherton Reweavers popped up and I thought I would give them a try. Although their customer service was not all that great the service they provided and the results of their work was amazing. I couldn't even tell when the hole was until I flipped the sweater inside out and really searched. Amazing job done and would take my sweaters back there again if needed a repair. read more

These three little "mature" ladies are miracle workers on sweaters with holes from moths, snags, and other wear and tear. I have had probably 15 sweaters repaired with them over the years, and I don't know how they do it, but the work is always amazing. I usually can't see the repair (at least not from the front), and I've had them work on "tissue weight" cashmere. You don't even need to have those little samples of extra yarn that the designers sometimes attach to the price tags (who keeps those things organized?) They can take "extra" yarn from seams in the garment without any damage. The ultimate test was when my mom accidentally cut the sleeve of a new sportcoat for my dad while cutting off the square tag that was affixed just above the cuff. This was a navy gabardine, and the cut was at least an inch long. I had her ship it to me, and they fixed it remarkably well, you have to know where to look to see it, and I thought it was hopeless. He wears it and nobody notices the repair. I have heard they also do alterations, but haven't used them for that. Cash only, most sweater repairs $10-20, depending on the depth of the problem. read more

I have been sending my fine knits needing repair to a woman in the midwest who does excellent work, but she books 3 months in advance. So I thought I would try this shop with a few cashmere sweaters that had developed holes. They were both cable knit and I had no extra yarn. One was a fine knit, the other a chunky knit. The hole in the fine knit was in the braid pattern and the hole in the chunky knit was not. Both sweaters were expertly repaired. I cannot tell from where they took the yarn to repair and where the holes were previously. The time needed for turnaround is a bit long (I think it was 2 weeks before the sweaters were ready), but more than acceptable for the level of work they provide. Yes, do be prepared to help identify your items on the rack and it can be a bit disorganized when dropping off/picking up, but again, for the quality of the repair, i'm okay with that. 4.5 stars. read more

I have never reviewed anything in my life, but I was so appalled with the customer service at Menlo Atherton Reweavers that I decided to create a yelp account. Menlo Atherton Reweavers would be receiving zero stars (if I could give them that)from me because they have the worst customer service available, it was expensive, late, and wrong. I have never gotten anything altered before and decided to take my $70 dress in to get hemmed and the arms fitted. When I got there, the two women working did not even look up at me until I spoke and asked them if they could alter my dress. They did not answer my question merely asked if I needed to try it on. As a novice I had no idea that was an option so I hesitantly said no. They replied with "typically people need to try on a dress before getting it altered. So I did and wondered why they even asked me in the first place. Then I had to ask how when I would get it back and they said they promised 3 to 4 weeks (which is an incredibly long amount of time), but only told me that after asking if I were in a hurry and I replied no. In all the fluster I forgot to ask how much it would cost and they were not about to tell. 4 weeks later I called to see if my dress were ready to pick up, and they said no they needed another week. So now it's week 5 and they were ready for me to pick it up. I go there and they great me at the door boxing me in at the door so I could not come in and told me it would be $70. I was furious and told them it was late and that cost as much as the dress and I would never go there again. They did not let me try on the dress and so I immediately came home and tried it on and found the arms to still be too big. So upset! This is a terribly run business. read more
