It's like a high-tech community center where people can pursue their passions. there's plenty of meeting space, great wifi, lots of restaurants nearby, and great people. This collaborative workspace serves as home to meetings, conferences, un-conferences, and more. You can rent office space in this expansive, sprawling building. (Rather, it's thee buildings in one, all sort of connected. This place would make a KILLER haunted house!) The space is truly meant to foster collaboration and creativity. Staff encourages those working and visiting to "ask permission later," and treat the space as their own. Bucketworks is a great addition to Milwaukee in that it is all at once a community and learning center meant for everyone. As someone said at BarCamp (an un-conference that I attended and Yelp sponsored that was held in the space), "these are the schools of the future." Love.

We rented the facility for my daughter's wedding and reception. We had 175 guests. It was perfect! The wedding was outside in the lawn surrounded with beautiful oak trees. Our guests enjoyed the outside patio. Our caterer served dinner in the beautiful dinning room and porch. Later we had a dance and reception in the spacious downstairs area. I would highly recommend The Gathering Place for any event. It was beautiful, and the folks there helped us with every detail.

This review is strictly for their semi-annual Ebleskiver & Medisterpolse (Danish Sausages)…read morebreakfast they have twice a year. They do a FANTASTIC job managing the crowd & cranking out all those delicious ebleskivers...all with smiling and friendly volunteers from the Lodge. The most recent time, Nov. 2017, they advertised it on their facebook page so the crowd was much, much larger than usual but everything still went smoothly & the lines kept moving. I'd say we waited 30-40 minutes in line...but well worth it! The price was a mere $8 for a "full" order which consisted of 6 eblelskiver, 2 links of the medisterpole (Danish sausages which are very delicious), a slice of kringle (they had apple, cherry or blueberry kringle to choose from) & coffee. You could order a 1/2 order as well for less. If you aren't familar with ebleskiver they are essentially pancake balls that are pan fried like a pancake in a special pan with wells to pour the batter into. You can eat them plain or split them open and fill with jelly & sprinkle powdered sugar on top. On the communal tables there are bowls of grape jelly and powdered sugar to put on/in your ebleskiver if you wish. DEELISH! Their wonderful volunteers go around and refill coffees and put down fresh paper placemats, napkins & plastic utensils as folks come & go.

For shame, RF! UCC = United Community Center = "... a comprehensive social service agency serving the families of Milwaukee's south side. Programs range from education to elder programs, meeting the needs of three year olds to 93 year olds and everyone in between." So what that means, exactly? Bruce-Guadalupe community school, Latino Arts Inc., Cafe el Sol, Walker Square Neighborhood Development Initiative, elder/youth programs and so much more. While all of these community-centric programs and pursuits are not just worthwhile (they're also necessary!), it really warms my goofy, cynical little heart to know that there are arts programs for children and young adults alive and well right down the street. Latino Arts puts on a number of shows and exhibitions throughout the year... so if you're an MKE culture vulture, you should definitely consider checking out their schedule! It's here: http://www.latinoartsinc.org/home.htm They bring in nationally-recognized acts; the music is stellar, and I really enjoyed the gallery/art on display this past weekend. Also of note? I'm pretty excited about the Dia de los Muertos/Ofrendas. Cultural, community goodness on the south side, y'all!

Mixed feelings abound for this community center, partially supported by my donations. They have an…read moreambivalent attitude towards the neighborhood, they allow neighborhood community meetings here, but their parents association is somewhat hostile to the neighborhood as they don't feel that the neighborhood is part of their community (most of the students don't live around here). Some of the parents are downright dangerous when they are dropping off or picking up their children, and collectively they bring traffic to a standstill for a half mile radius twice a day for over an hour. They are parking bullies, since they don't have adequate parking facilities, they "reserve" public spaces in front of the school for administrators, workers, and guests they consider "VIPs" adding to parking and congestion problems in the neighborhood. They didn't help with our neighborhood speed bumps (they really don't seem to take much interest in the safety of area pedestrians), or the playground we built and they use. They have an award winning music program, but they don't invite the neighborhood, they seem to purposely snub the residents right around the school. I'm a little suspicious because every child in this school is cute, without exception. What happens to the homely children? What have they done with them? On the other hand, they do a great job with the elderly people under their care, the Cafe del Sol is wonderful both for food and entertainment, the gym and health club are very affordable and well used by the neighborhood. The small art gallery is usually interesting, with rotating displays. A small number of interesting handicrafts are sold here too.
