I've used Mentor Movers twice in the past year, and they've been consistently outstanding both times. They show up on time, move fast, and actually know what they're doing--which is rare. I solicited multiple quotes, and off the top of my head I know they came in at half the price of Fresh Start Movers (PS stay away from them lol! They were horrible and so overpriced). White glove quality with Mentor Movers though (And I am picky lol!) The crew was professional, efficient, and handled everything with care. We used them once to move from our apartment on the third floor to a townhouse just across the street. They did a decent job and were timely enough, but ended up charging us more than quoted for the move. When we bought our house, we decided to use them again, but this time was much worse. We emphasized that we wanted an accurate quote and mentioned what had happened last time. We gave them every dimension of every item we have and they were familiar with most of our items from our first move. They assured us the quote was accurate. They understaffed massively, so the first half of the day barely any progress was made until they called in more staff. They also brought a smaller truck (than they used for our smaller move) and made us pay for the extra time and trip to get the ONE item that wouldn't fit the in truck that was 8 ft too small. When I voiced my concern about the truck, the only answer they gave me was that a bigger one wasn't available. How is that our fault and why wasn't it mentioned until after they were in the process of putting our belongings in it? The crew was nice and they worked hard. But to top it off, we had to pick up a few big items to center them, a very sentimental lamp broke, and we couldn't find all of the parts for things (light bulbs, screws, etc.) Why did we have to pay nearly double than quoted for a local move? Their error with staffing cost way more time and they used a truck way too small, which added another trip across town that we had to pay for. We did not want to refuse to pay what they were charging when we were in such a vulnerable place at the end of such a big day, but it is not right at all. I'm curious to know if every client pays more than quoted. read more

I would give these guys 15 stars if I could. We had a tricky packing and moving job helping our elderly father in a sensitive time. Everyone at Mentors was absolutely wonderful to work with. It does not get better than this, folks. I called and they answered the phone (that alone scores points!) and scheduled me for the next day. A 500 pound refrigerator that had already had two previous nerve wracking failed attempts at moving up 20 narrow funky stairs with other movers and these guys came fully prepared with proper moving gear for this particular job and enough muscle to complete it swiftly. They remained masked the entire time. Clearly they understand the importance of teamwork and everyone knew their position. They enjoy each other and had a contagious energy that was really nice to be around. I think they like what they do, where they work, and who they work with. That is a rarity worth pointing out. I wasn't worried like I was with the last two attempts. I saw this company to be fully capable and was able to just let them do their job. They laid the protection board (like cardboard on a roll) down so they wouldn't harm my new flooring, were very aware and careful of the fridge's handles, and would have moved it into place had there not been contractor's stuff back there in the way. We had a massive sofa (200 pounds) that needed to get down a tight staircase. The guys efficiently wrapped our sofa, draped the staircase glass, and protected the area with their gear. They safely and effortlessly moved our sofa downstairs and cleaned everything up in no time. We had a minor hiccup with payment involving our deposit and a credit card service fee of 3% that we worked out, but I would recommend reading the contract carefully and make sure the deposit if any is returned to you. Also, if you want to avoid a credit card fee I would recommend paying cash or check especially on bigger jobs. Great crew! Shout out to Thomas for his awesome attitude and customer service. We moved from a one bedroom condo in Novato, CA to a home in Petaluma, CA. The condo was on the 3rd floor with no elevator (stairs only). Three men arrived at 745 and were finished packing all of our items into the box truck by 9AM. By 10AM, the entire truck was unloaded appropriately in Petaluma into the designated rooms. It was the most efficient and safe move I have ever had done. I was highly impressed by the men. They even dismantled our bed frame and reassembled it, too. The guys at Mentors Moving were very friendly and easy to work with. The only drawback to five stars is further damage to my bookcase. To be fair, this is a very bulky/heavy piece of furniture. However, I would like to see movers handle the item better when setting it down, being careful not to drag it, which is, very likely what caused the damage. I was informed by the guys loading my truck of the damage which I appreciate. I would say when working with your movers, be overly involved in managing any items you have concern of potential damage. JR called the day before the move to confirm the appointment and clarify directions to my hard-to-find apartment. He gave me a window of 7am - 8am for arrival the next morning. Around 6:40am I got a text that they would be arriving in about 20 minutes and right at 7am Miguel and Hector arrived! We had Mentors Moving recently upload a storage container for us. They will also unload it. Dealing with them proved to be accommodating and flexible as well as reliable. Thomas and his crew did a great job. They showed up right on time and got to work immediately, and did not stop until the job was finished. Thomas was on top of what was going on and directed the others accordingly. Arturo was also a hard worker and knew what to do. They were careful with our furniture and disassembled pieces that needed it, like the bed and dining table. Very happy with the whole experience. We moved roughly a 2 bedroom sized apartment with baby and pets from Marin to SoCal from a one story house. The most painful part of the process was organizing and packing. All the artwork was handled with care and perfectly protected. Sean was a great communicator, his crew was super punctual, efficient and friendly. His road dog was super sweet (literally) and accompanied him at the drop off location. While they seem to be a bit more expensive than the other quotes I got, I was very happy with the peace of mind and communication from the get-go.
