Best moving company we've ever used. I called my top two choices, and Jim Hinkel himself from Great Rate Moving replied, and immediately set up a meeting for the following day to look over what we wanted moved, from Santa Rosa to Roseville in Placer County. He showed up exactly on time, to the minute! I immediately liked him, and was happy that my other choice didn't get back to me until late the next day. We primarily had the large pieces we couldn't move ourselves (couches, a heavy dining room table, etc.), along with four trees, one of which was 6' tall and planted in a plastic garbage can. Jim gave us a fair price, and again showed up exactly on time on moving day, with his helper Alonzo (I'm pretty sure I got that name right). They were so very careful with our stuff, and loaded everything up within an hour. Jim had set up his crew so that we only paid for Alonzo to load, and for another employee, Nick, to unload us at our destination, saving us a few bucks by not having to pay for two guys on the drive up and back. Once he met up with Nick, the unloading took just an hour, again with extreme care taken by Jim and Nick. They placed everything carefully, and Jim even helped me zip the cushions back onto one of the couches. We were so happy with them we were almost beside ourselves. Big high-fives after they took off. Stop looking at other movers and call Jim! This was the best move I've ever had, it went smoothly and I didn't feel like I had to jump in and be the third person because they were so efficient. The truck was packed beautifully, and everything was protected nicely. They didn't drag things across the floor, or put anything down too hard. Then, they stacked everything to perfection in my garage because my house is under construction, taking care to put the boxes I'd need to access in a month or so in places I could get them. Even though they had to stack things away from the walls, it's still nice and stable and compact. They're excellent at fitting things together. I moved from cloverdale to SF, they arrived on time, communicated well ahead of time, and didn't complain once (that I heard anyways!) about how much stuff they had to move or how heavy it was. Plus they were both very pleasant people to be around. The rates were fair, it seems like moving costs in general really jumped since my last move 8 months ago, but the hourly rate was good and the fees were straight forward, no hidden costs or surprises. read more

Best moving company ever! Rolando, Sacramento, Luis and Riccardo were awesome. The movers showed up on time to load and were right-on with the estimated time it was going to take. The guys took great care to wrap our furniture and were good with communicating any questions or concerns. Rolando was very easy to get in touch with and was even able to move-up our move date on short notice. Moving to the new house was a breeze with Rolando and Sacramento unloading and setting up our furniture. We had a move within our complex that we originally intended to handle ourselves, but then got delayed after we discovered a flea infestation in our new apartment. So we were left with several large pieces of furniture, including a solid wood and glass cabinet, our TV and TV stand, and our IKEA queen-sized bed. The couch would not fit through the front door and they tied it up and hoisted it up to the second story balcony to bring it in through the sliding door! They made it look easy. I was moving from a 550' square foot apartment to a share rental and I needed a mover. The first estimate I received the guy started charging me for "stairs" right off the bat, and it was up to several hundred dollars before discussing actually moving. All of these ancillary charges were unbelievable, plus I hardly had anything to move. I contacted Jim and he came over to take a look. He was so nice and he knew I had financial issues (then the fire hit right before I had to move!!) and gave me a few options to keep costs down and accepted the job. He arrived with Brian and they just really knocked the job out. I had stairs were I lived and also where I was moving. He didn't charge me one penny. The move only took a couple of hours and he and Brian really worked hard. If you want an HONEST mover, someone you can trust and someone who will give you options even if it turns out to be less of a charge for them HIRE JIM GREAT RATE MOVING!! I will never, ever be able to thank him enough, plus being a single woman who knew nothing about moving, it was so relieving to be able to trust someone.
