Tried this restaurant for the first time. Ordered Nutella martini and regular martini. My new favorite and drum roll goes to Nutella martini it was delicious. The food tasted so good love the freshly baked bread it was hot and soft. We were a group of 4, my friends ordered some chicken stuff and enjoyed it. My husband and friends loved the calamari, they mentioned it was different with a sauce but over all added a nice punch of flavor. The burrata wood fire pizza was perfect. Would love to visit this place again and try more next time. Last but not the least the chocolate cake is to die for OMG they had these tiny chocolate pieces in the cake it was so good with the caramel. read more

Stopped in with my wife for some apps and a drink after work. Unfortunately not the best experience. Saw there was a happy hour menu, so we tried the meatballs and pizza for apps and she got the Pinot Grigio and I tried the Cabernet. I could only get down barely half the glass of cab and when I called her over to send it back, she never asked if it was ok etc. or why I did t finish it. And I did ask her how the cab was before I ordered it and she said great! Clearly never tried wine before. I also saw that I was charged for the bad wine. No biggie, but in a better place they would have tried to make it right. I tried a Hendrick's and tonic next, and the tonic water was definitely flat. I tried to ask nicely if the tonic water was flat and she never even tried it, just saying oh no, it's fine. Very disappointed with that service and the drinks were terrible. As for the food, they might not have any spices in the kitchen as the meatballs could have had some seasoning added so they didn't taste so bland! Pizza was eh at best. Someone should teach them about salt and how a little bit brings out the real flavors! We won't go back...the wait staff seemed more interested in talking to each other than they did the customers. And the side of the bar nearest the door was cold as they kept one set of doors open, so always a cold blast coming in. No wonder so many restaurants are failing these days. read more

I love this place... Love the atmosphere (inside, bar and outside), the food and the service is always outstanding. I love that they have gluten free bread and pasta options (even though they charge a few dollars more ). The cocktails (average $14 each, which is a bit steep) have all been delicious. It's usually busy for both lunch and dinner, so I suggest reservations. read more

I really wanted to like Mercado Kitchen, but our visit fell short on nearly every front. Our server was also tending the bar, which meant we constantly had to interrupt her mid-conversation with a bar customer just to get any attention. She offered us bread, told us it would be out in seven minutes, and then forgot it entirely. She also forgot our appetizer order altogether. When the food finally did arrive, it was cold. On top of that, we practically had to beg her to come check on our table. The whole experience felt rushed and neglected. To top it off, we complained to the manager on our way out, and they couldn't have cared less -- the response made us feel as though we were the problem. We were welcomed back by Stephanie W and decided to use the opportunity to try their brunch menu. Much quieter inside than we're used to - arriving around 1pm on a Sunday - but it was still a welcoming environment. Our server was exceptional. Was there when we needed her and offered help when we had questions deciding on our meals. We started out w the ricotta & bread (I'd recommend asking for extra bread!) and it was a great start. The mimosa was also delicious. The breakfast pizza was definitely the highlight for me but the short rib meal was also good (just wish it had a bit more textural differences). Overall, another great dining experience. Brunch prices are no different than their dinner menu so expect to pay dinner prices. I was slow to the Mercato party as the reviews were so mixed. I needed something close to home and decided to try it. When I walked in it has the wow factor times 1,0000. Beautiful interior and a bar that goes and goes. The day I went the garage doors were open and the breeze was magnificent. I was so impressed, until the food came! We order bruschetta which came and was too pieces. They were both several inches thick not crispy not your typical bruschetta. I ordered the Woodfire salmon. It presented so beautifully. I was so encouraged. However, it was cold. The portion was plentiful. It just wasn't warm. My friend had the brave short rib which he liked. We had the peanut butter chocolate brownie for dessert, which was tasteless. Service was just OK. The reviews are very accurate of my experience. read more

Mercato is an Italian restaurant located in the Shops of Farmington. We came here for lunch on a Friday and had a very delightful experience. We sat inside but there was a patio area; it wasn't too busy yet but there were a few other patrons. The interior decor was very classy, clean, and rustic. The service provided was excellent; friendly, fast, and attentive. The food was fantastic. We ordered fried calamari $17 as an appetizer; lightly crispy, cherry peppers, marinara, spicy cherry pepper aoli, it was very delicious. I also had the Calabrian Crush cocktail $14; chinola passion fruit, Blanco tequila, lime, and Calabrian chili agave, this was sweet and spicy, my kind of drink. For my entree, I had the Ricotta Gnocchi; braised short rib ragu and stracciatelli cheese; the gnocchi melted in my mouth and the flavors danced with each other, I loved it. I also wanted to try out their "get figgy with it" pizza pie; next time! My family all thoroughly enjoyed their meals too. I even finished off with an espresso martini as my dessert and it's one of the best I've had. Mercato will definitely be on my regularly go to list! read more

There for the first time last Friday. The ambiance/ layout is top notch - open but still some privacy. Drinks at the bar were decent - I'd say quite heavy on the ice. Staff seemed very professional and attentive. Food - not great. Caesar's was bland, breaded chicken same - thin, tough - seemed like frozen store bought. Steak appetizer was ok, quality meat but again bland. Penne vodka average. We will be back - probably just at the awesome bar for apps! read more

Another amazing dinner at Mercato in Canton. Great lighting, so perfect. Dim and warm. Atmospheric tall ceilings like eating in a restaurant in the meat packing district. Excellent and super friendly front of house. Excellent meal and absolutely perfect service from Chris who was friendly, attentive, and on the money 100%. We had the corner booth and it was delightful to see the whole room, from our vantage point. We had spectacular branzino, calamari, pizza, chicken parm, mussels and great sangria. The ambiance was good and the tiramisu was excellent but all of the main courses were extremely under seasoned. I had the ricotta gnocchi and it was almost flavorless. Even after adding salt it still wasn't a very flavorful or enjoyable dish. Don't feel the need to revisit. read more

Last night my family and I went to Mercato for dinner. I have passed by them so many times while shopping in Canton, last night was my first time dining here. Upon walking inside I had a feeling they would be of quality, just based on their beautiful and elegant interior. Since it was a super warm day we got seated outside. I cannot remember the waitress' name, it could have been Ali or Allison, but she was lovely, she gave excellent recommendations, and checked up on us frequently. From the drink menu I started with the Apple Basket cocktail. This tasted like a crisp Granny Smith in a cocktail! Yum! We got complimentary bread and olive oil. The bread was delicious, with the super crunchy crust. The olive oil had an "M" in it, written with balsamic. This was so creative and attractive. I got the Charred Peach salad and the Get Figgy With It Pizza to share. Their pizzas come in just one, personal size. Others in my party got the Margherita, and the Three Little Pigs Pizzas, as well as the Brussels & Burrata app. My salad was very fresh, light and green. It had plenty of greens, avocado, pistachios and grilled peaches. The pizzas are thin but not flimsy. They are charred, and wood fried. I loved the Figgy pizza. Prosciutto and fig jam are a dream combo! This was a wonderful first time at Mercato! Everyone was very satisfied with their meals, drinks and service. We will be back very soon! read more

Mercato took over the space formerly occupied by Feng and they have a very nice Happy Hour lineup of discounted food, cocktails, beer and wine. HH food includes six small plates for $6-$9 - MOZZARELLA STICKS with Parmesan cheese and Marinara Sauce, CRISPY BRUSSEL SPROUTS with a Balsamic Drizzle, a CLASSIC PIZZA with Pizza Sauce, and Mozzarella cheese, TRUFFLE FRIES with Truffle Oil, Parmesan cheese, and a Garlic-Dipping Sauce, WOOD FIRED CHICKEN WINGS with your choice of three sauces - Garlic-Parmesan, BBQ, or House Hot Sauce with Blue Cheese, CRISPY EGGPLANT NAPOLEON with Roasted Tomato Marinara, Stracciatella, and a Balsamic glaze. Selected Cocktails are $7, Beers are $4 and wines are $6. So as you can see, you can do pretty nicely here for an early dinner on any weekday. HH specials are only offered in the bar, so we plopped ourselves on two barstools and ordered a $4 Michelob Ultra and a $7 Clementine Cosmo (Vodka, Triple Sec, Fresh Lime, and Clementine). The cosmo was great and fairly strong. We went with three of the HH food specials -the eggplant, pizza, and wings. The eggplant was FANTASTIC - the best of the three. We pretty much gave up on cooking eggplant at home, because it's so difficult to cut it thin and cook it so it comes out tender. Even when we order it at a restaurant, it sometimes comes out in thick rubbery slices. But Mercato's version was perfect -thin slices crispy on the outside, buttery soft on the inside served on a delicious layer of marinara. The pizza was a thin crust New Haven style six-slice pie that was very good. Zero complaints with it. The Garlic Parmesan Wings were the weak link. Some of them had rubbery skin and could have used a few more seconds in the old fryer. But in all fairness, the Garlic Parm coating was delicious, and the well cooked wings were terrific. Our HH feast of two drinks and three food choices totaled just $38.63 after tax and before tip. And that made us pretty happy. read more

On its way to a great Italian place. We stopped by on a lively Tuesday evening and it was jammed! We waited about 30 minutes for a table by the outdoors. It's a similar format to a marketplace which isn't a surprise given the common restaurant group. We started with a charred Caesar salad. It was missing the char but it was still delicious with lots of cheese and yummy croutons. I then had the chicken scarpariello which had a big piece of Murray's farm chicken and a great pan jus. It came with broccoli rabe, sausage and roasted potatoes. So much I had leftovers. (Don't miss using the bread for the sauce too). The scallop dish was also a big hit as was the short rib gnocchi. Service was great though the kitchen was jammed so we waiting a bit for the main course. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and can't wait to come back. read more

This place is great for the aesthetic. Drinks are over priced as well as the food. Food is tasty but still overpriced. The drink menu is all based around orange flavored drinks and they're not good. The few times I've been there I've just had my own cocktails because I did try some drinks from the menu and they were terrible. This place has so much potential. I wish they'd redo their drink menu and adjust their prices a bit. As for service, nothing jumps out. They're not rude or anything they're just average. read more

Excellent restaurant!! Very cool ambiance with lots of glass, rustic tables & modern decor. We were seated in the terrace room (all glass) which gave us an amazing view of the lightening storm. Our server was fantastic, attentive, knowledgeable & super friendly. The food was delicious. Started with Brussels & Burrata, which was amazing! The grilled Filet Mignon sandwich was out of this world. It consisted of filet mignon pieces, garlic parmesan, arugula, tomato, fresh mozzarella, crispy onions & house made flatbread!! The Wood fired bolognese was equally as delicious. We barely had room for dessert, but had to! The expresso cheesecake is a must try, absolutely incredible. A relatively new restaurant in the Canton Shops. We've dined there a handful of times, mostly for lunch. My wife has ordered several pasta dishes and found them lacking in flavor. Not sure how you can't make a red sauce tasty. I usually order a pizza which seems to be brick oven fired. Crust has a nice char in spots, thin with very little flop. One lunch, I did have to send one back because the dough was under cooked. But when done right, it's a pretty good pie. The bright spot is the espresso martinis. They offer an additional shot of liqueur providing at least a half dozen of choices, mine is always the Baileys. Again, it's an ok place to get a bite, but it is still just an additional average restaurant in the Farmington Valley. read more

Mercato has a lot going for it, including a great location and cool decor (but very dimly lit). The menu was pretty expansive and priced in realm of expectations. Our party of 3 ordered a cocktail, a few beers, a couple apps, 2 pizzas, & penne vodka. Consensus was it was fine, but not great. Our server was very pleasant, but was stretched thin across 8-9 tables which hopefully was an anomaly. Wings were pretty good; whipped ricotta was nice and pizzas were a bit undercooked. Pasta was uninspired. I'd like to go back and try the scallops w/ mushroom risotto... we'll see read more

I live in Canton and had a friend with her 3 kids visiting. We went to shop at Barnes and Noble and decided to try this restaurant. It was great atmosphere, food, service and reasonably priced. The kids enjoyed it as much as the adults and it was very friendly. The waitress made recommendations and checked on your frequently but not to the point of over doing it. I did have a cocktail as well and it was very tasty and not over powering. Defiantly need to go again read more

We've been to Mercato 2x now and I can totally appreciate this place. It's not authentic old school Italian like you'd find in New Haven, more American style with solid food, cocktails and service - with some things are better than others. Favs: fried eggplant appy, regular calamari, pizza, espresso martinis, overall ambiance and service.. Ok: chefs calamari (too heavy on the balsamic), burger was mediocre, pastas are good but I've had better I'm a stickler and a purist for espresso martinis and on our last visit I went out on a limb to try their espresso martini specials, I was in the holiday spirit lol.. and they were pretty good! Yes sweeter than I would order but my curiosity was satisfied.. I like the shopping center it's located in and when we we return we will def take the servers recommendations and continue to explore the menu.. that's part of the fun! read more

As with all marketplace group restaurants the interior is well done. Menu provides plenty of choices and food is of average quality. Waitstaff provided excellent service and food came out quickly and was hot. Also as with all marketplace group locations - the manager is a conceited, slicked back hair, chump - too cool to crack a smile, make any contact with or interact with a guest (or employee for that matter) he was present my entire meal watching something on an iPad at the bar. The only thing needed to complete the look was a tooth pick hanging out of his mouth. Little man syndrome perhaps? Used car salesman look achieved. Mercado read your reviews- your patrons and staff deserve better than a cheap sport coat and a bad attitude at all of your locations. This behavior is what sets the tone for your impotence. Walked in and sat at the bar where immediately the bartender told us to hold on so she could talk to a co worker. There was more staff then there were guests, and the managers were in the back being so loud it disrupted the entire restaurant. Then when something came out wrong (it was frozen) I watched the bartender tell the female manager who was dressed so unprofessional, I watched her roll her eyes at me. Honestly I expected better from an establishment like this. But clearly if this is how management is okay with their staff acting I should expect no less. This is now the 3rd time food has come out either frozen in the middle or cold, with zero apologies from management. read more

Great Italian restaurant. I've been to Mercato several times and always had fantastic food and service here. For pasta dishes I tried a few and favorite being the Spaghetti Alla Chittarra. The spicy tomato sauce tastes like my homemade pasta sauce with just the correct amount of spice to it. The wood oven pizza are personal sized with nice amount of charred crust and great topping. Decor and ambiance is modern, clean and welcoming. read more

There is a reason the Farmington Valley is the home to mediocre Italian restaurants. This place fits right in. As my kid would say, "it's very mid". The atmosphere and ambience is very cool. I'd def come back for a drink. In fact, the appetizers we had were the best part of the meal. Meatballs were decent albeit totally under seasoned and super bland. Artichokes were excellent and olives were good (tough to mess olives up). We ordered the pasta zozzona. It was fine. So plain and under seasoned. We had to add salt, pepper and ask for red chili flakes. Total snooze. Also ordered the lasagna: not too bad. Best thing that came to the table. The total fail was the peppardele rustica. Omg. It's awful. It's almost a sweet dish. Yes it's chicken sausage but that doesn't mean it has to be sweet!!! It's basically a breakfast sausage. Nothing in the menu description would Lead me to think the dish is sweet. In fact it sounds yummy when you read it. Dear god, it's bad. Hard to imagine the chef is proud of what goes through the pass. You taste your food? Our server was excellent and nice after a slow start. She was super busy so she gets a pass. I will try it one more time, order differently and sit at the bar. Maybe just apps?? It can gain or lose a star when I go back. read more

I've been to Mercato in Southbury once before and the canton location 3 times so far. I really enjoy this restaurant because it's aesthetically pleasing and just beautiful! The menu is large and offers an amazing variety of appetizers, entree and pizza. We always have gotten plenty of apps to share a few pies. The apps are always great and unique/ the pies are alright. The food is honestly yummy here and it's a great place to go with a group for a fun night, and it's also romantic and cozy. My favorite dishes are the eggplant napoleon, lamb chops, Brussels, fried calamari, ricotta toast, and charred cauliflower. The veggie pizza is my favorite pie. The pies are Naples style pie. One of the best aspects of this restaurant are the drinks: a great wine menu and always delicious drinks!! I love the pear martini and al the classic espresso martini. Everything, including their specials, are unique and interesting. The bartenders and service are awesome. The bar and decor is stunning. read more

Very busy Saturday night. The hostess was incredible! Very helpful, very knowledgeable and very accommodating. This place was packed and the noise level was very high. I felt I had to shout so my friends could hear me. Not an ideal atmosphere for me personally but the background music was very good. Our server was very nice but it definitely felt like the kitchen and bar couldn't keep up with the orders. We had to wait too long for our drinks and our food. Again just an observation and one experience. Right before the holidays, keep in mind the location is right in the middle of the shopping center so everyone shops till they drop and want to relax and enjoy after. Beautifully decorated, strong drinks. Don't expect too many choices for beer and the cocktails just didn't do it for me , taste wise. I would try the wine next time. The food was good, I didn't took pictures of everything but the most memorable was my olive oil cake with pistachio ice cream. Tried to come here 4 times (with call ahead reservations) before getting a seat. Now have been twice, once for work and once for fun. Carbonara is good with a nice crunch cauliflower twist but more oily than creamy. The gnocchi is tasty but not the most pretty dish. Polpo is tender, Brussels are great for sharing. Hand made mozzarella sticks are yummy but they came out after our dinner was served way late. Just seems like they need to work out some of the "operations" but staff is friendly. read more

I have to say that our server was lovely, and the host energetic and kind. The space was clean and has good vibes all the way around with that balance of greenery and brick. I hesitated write this review because I really really wanted to be blown away. This is a new location to this restaurant company and I can understand a few hiccups, but the bare minimum isn't really the makings of a great time out. I was there as a party of 5 to have Sunday brunch for my birthday. As I stated the host was very kind and seated us in a corner table. The table top was so loose that our waters kept spilling whenever someone moved- and with 5 people that was going to happen.(But it's a few months of opening, how could this table have been this broken?) With the way that the company advertised their brunch I felt like there would be a lot of options. There just isn't. Don't get me wrong. The food was good. The BEC pizza was delicious and my husband was a big fan of the mozzarella sticks but there were only a handful of options for said brunch. As we ordered, and it was brunch, we had asked for coffee, only to be sadly informed that they have no caffeinated coffee in the restaurant except espresso. (I'm not exaggerating when I say my best friend's partner slipped out of the restaurant quietly to purchase us coffee at the next door Panera. ) Being excited to treat us to the mimosas bar that is again, heavily advertised, imagine how disappointed I was to find out they didn't have 2 juice flavors of the 6. No sparklers , no fan fair just tiny carafes of runner up juice placed on the table. Now I know what your thinking, maybe we went at the end of brunch so some things may have run out.
