So I recently got into an accident 1 day ago on October 8th. The agent I originally spoke to about my accident approved my claim and ordered a tow truck company to pick up my vehicle to take it to the mercury collisions center. The next day I get a phone call from Rebecca V. around 1pm and from the start it seemed like an interrogation to find a reason not to honor my claim. She didn't bother to ask me how I was doing or if I was okay. She did ask me if I hit someone else, how many people I had with me and even questioned if I was on the policy, and then asked me if was using the vehicle for work. She did tell me I don't get a rental car. So I explained to her that the accident occurred while I was delivering groceries to an elderly lady because that's what I do on the weekends. Because I get compensated for charity work I guess they can't honor my claim. As soon as I mentioned delivering groceries she said she'll have to talk to her supervisor Crystal because she's pretty sure I'm not covered while working. I was a little confused as she hung up. I tried calling her on two different occasions at 2:30pm and 4pm but she didn't answer. I left a message with her and her supervisor but received no callback or anything. We'll see what happens tomorrow and we're skeptical about continuing to hold insurance with mercury. It was ugly feeling after being in an accident and it got even uglier knowing that they treat their customers this way. I wish I would've saw these reviews earlier because I'm obviously not the only person they've done this to. An update after I received a phone call today 10/10/2017 almost 24 hours after speaking with Rebecca V. She called me back. First thing she says is "I need a recorded statement saying you were working". Really? I've given two statements and I have no need to move further with another statement so you can fabricate some story to get you out of honoring my policy and claim. I then began to tell her that I don't want another phone call from you until you have an answer for in regards to my claim. So she hung up. Let's see what happens now. An update on 10/11/2017 - Okay so I took the initiative to contact the corporate office because I wasn't getting anywhere and Rebecca V. She Is never in the office to answer the phone or she's screening her calls. The representative from the corporate office called Crystal the supervisor whom I left a message for and never got a return call until now. She was a little more polite the Rebecca V. but it's very difficult to tell if she's being genuine or just trying to get me off her back. She said she's still waiting for her manager to make a decision on my claim and explained to me that she would keep me posted. She later called me back towards the end of the day to tell me she still didn't get any feedback from her manager. So as of now we have gotten nowhere and are now going on to day 4. My boyfriend bought his parents old Lexus for me to drive. I didn't know the insurance policy was cancelled until I asked him about it and he said, "You never insured the car?" I had no idea, the car was in his name and he never said a word to me about insurance. Ok, long story short, I needed to get an online policy ASAP and ended up going with Mercury because they quoted me $152 for a 6 month policy, which included roadside assistance. Flash forward 6 months and my renewal is $239.00 for the same coverage! Unfortunately, I didn't get a renewal notice by mail because my BF misplaced it. I knew it had to be close to my renewal date and logged into my account and it was literally expiring at midnight. I opted to split the payment in half and then find out all the particulars. The next day I called them to ask why they increased my policy by 30% and they said my previous mileage was 3,000 and now it's 6,000, but as soon as I send them proof that my mileage is still in the 3,000 category they will lower it.....5%. Excuse me? Five percent (5%)...what about the other 25%? They couldn't give me a straight answer and basically said take it or leave it. I started doing some online investigating and found horrible reviews with people complaining about the exact same thing! The more I read the more pissed off I became. I emailed them directly telling them I wanted to cancel and was sick to my stomach reading all the nasty reviews. I also inquired about how much they were going to screw me for canceling. Three days later I get a call from their broker wanting to know why I cancelled my policy, etc...Huh? Cancel? I threatened to cancel and told them they suck, but never thought they could just cut me off without any kind of notice,paperwork or signatures...I have changed insurance companies in the past and it's like pulling teeth. Therefore, I was driving around for 3 days without any insurance. I called AIS and they tried to fix the misunderstanding with my not-so-nice email and had no luck either. The best they could do was issue me a new policy. BUT.. it would cost more because of my lapse in coverage. Seriously? I calmly told them "Hmm?...Well, ahh, let's see,...NO f@%*ing way!" Oh, and they charged me $45 for cancelling. I'm still waiting for my refund. I've read from others it takes forever to get your refund. We'll just see about that. They screwed up on my online policy; showing my due date as 12/20/17, instead of 12/4/17 and thank God I got a screenshot of it, because no sooner did I mentioned it, and it was gone. "Technically", I prepaid for a policy and then cancelled it before it went into effect. Technically. We'll see how far my screenshot of their error gets me. On December 8, 2020 we had a water leak causing damage to our house. The following day on December 9, 2020, I called Mercury insurance to open a claim. On December 14, 2020, Claim Adjuster Brian Turner called me. This Mercury Insurance claim adjuster was making me open 4 different claims and pay 4 different deductibles. I ended up opening two from the four. The adjuster not only refused to make repairs to some of the damage caused by the water leak but even though I had already received my renewal letter on 12/2020 and my escrow had already paid another year of insurance with Mercury Insurance, I have now received a Notice of Non-Renewal letter from Mercury Insurance dated January 12, 2021. Mercury is refusing to renew my insurance because of the claims. Mercury is saying that my insurance coverage will terminate on April 2, 2021. I cannot believe that I have been with Mercury Insurance for many-many years and now that I needed their help and opened my first claim ever, as retaliation they have refused to renew my insurance. I have tried getting quotes from other insurance companies but they do not want to insure me because of the most recent claims. I have been treated unfairly by Mercury Insurance not only because they tried making me open multiple claims which I opened two of the 4 they wanted me to open, they are also refusing to make repairs to some of the damage caused by the water leak. Now I have received the Notice of Non-Renewal letter reason of termination: Non-Renewal-Underwriting Reasons Claims History. It is very unfair that these Insurance companies can sell you insurance, have you as a customer for many-many years and collect from you but on the first claim, they drop you. This is about Mercury insurance terrible so-called service after someone hit my car who was at fault. -My Mercury adjuster Mr. J. G., who was supposed to take care of my claim did a very bad job. -He didn't return my phone call messages which occurred in different occasions. He also flaked out in different times when he said he would call me back! -At times it felt like my adjuster was working for the at-fault party's insurance company and against my interest! -He was very passive when it came to getting the other insurance company accept liability for my car's damage, but very aggressive at me when it came to pay me a small fraction of my car damage costs. -You must go to Mercury's own body shop affiliate: Mercury forced me to get an estimate at its own body shop which gave me a ridiculously low estimate. -Even though I had rental coverage with Mercury, they refused to pay reimbursement for car rental cost. -The worst part was that he didn't submit to the other party's insurance company any of the photos that I had taken from the accident scene and submitted to him! As a result they denied liability (as they didn't have any proof that showed their member was at fault) which cost me dearly. Mercury Insurance VIA AIS I cant tell if its AIS or the Mercury insurance all i can say is Mercury doesn't understand how to calculate GPA or AIS doesn't explain the backwards math Mercury uses but either way the premiums paid for vs. want was change and stated were off by hundreds of dollars. AIS Bait and Switches their customers!!!! and all they can do is blame the Insurance company they placed my insurance but the fact is its their issue on their side. The sales person who set up my policy although is nice guy - he couldn't get it right!! it took hours to get things started for a simple policy I did online. Then made and offer for which i paid the premium and the trouble started after adding a second driver. my premium was 1463 for 3 driver 2 cars - added a driver and was told new premium was 1963 approx. Since then Mercury couldn't calculate a GPA for the live of them and changed my premium by $300 but then when i got the policy change it went to $2663 then asked once Good Student Discount was correct what my premium would be and i was told $1963 but hen was told it would be $2350 approx. Nothing changed on my policy but the $300 Good Driver Discount but my policy changed by $600. I spent less then 15 minutes and went to Geico got the same original offer from them and paid $1988 for exactly the same thing! AIS then is trying to charge me a 10% cancellation fee because of their misquote and changing of terms. The headache in dealing with them is not worth even calling them. Absolutely worse office in Burbank, CA. I was a customer for over 10 years and not one issue. I asked them to please add my daughter to the policy and they came back with a $500 quote for a little over a month. I said no thank you, I will look elsewhere. Come to find out they didn't accept me saying no thank you and are charging me because I didn't write the words "please exclude." Like wtf!!?? If you needed me to say that, you should have told me, because that's your job. Once I found out I immediately wrote an email with those words and they canceled it but are still charging me. I called the Burbank, CA office and spoke to the agent who proceeded to yell and scream at me. My kids could hear him and I wasn't even on speaker phone. Maybe he was having a bad day, but I don't care, there is no excuse to yell at someone. I asked him to stop yelling and when he didn't I hung up. I canceled my car and home insurance with them. First it was because after more than 10 years of loyalty he wouldn't admit he was wrong and reverse the $200 charge, but then I ultimately canceled because of his gross behavior. I chatted corporate and they sent me an email stating the charges would stand. The fact that they don't have a backbone to stand up to such negligent behavior is sad. This is the worst company ive ever dealt with. I was in a car accident on Jan 17th 2022. The driver that hit me was insured by Mercury totaled my car. Walked home from the accident site about a mile or so did 9 days of covid quarantine then I had to pay $785 to get my car from tow yard. Had it towed to my sisters. Mercury adjustor came out said it was a total loss. My car was in the street for 2 weeks until the city threatened to impound it. I had it towed to my house. 2 more weeks go by and again the city made me move it. Once again i had to have my car towed so i would not lose it while im waiting for mercury to come pick it up and pay out my claim. I thought mercury had finally picked up my vehicle , but no just found out it was towed by a private tow company that thought it was an abandoned vehicle. This accident was not my fault. Yet i am stuck without a vehicle trying hard as hell to not lose whats left of my vehicle so i can get my claim paid. Mercury agents are impossible to get a hold of. Feels like mercury is trying to screw me out of a vehicle by not contacting me not answering my calls and simply behaving as if they have no intention of paying out my (100% their insured drivers fault ) claim . read more

Been with them for 20 + years. Never had an accident, never made a claim, no tickets. My credit rating excellent. I noticed my payment went up an additional 15% for no apparent reason. I've noticed it had been increasing every six months, but this increase woke me up as it prompted me to check other insurance companies. Get a load of this...to cover 2 cars for 6 months was 1,600.00...I shopped State Farm, Allstate, Geico.I was offered better coverage for $500.00 for 6 months...from all of them. I called Mercury and I was told, they would make an adjustment and only charge me $950.00 for 6 months. I mentioned I felt I was overpaying for a long time, but I didn't know any better. They had no answer. I believe they were just waiting for customers to complain, so they could charge exorbitant fees, until you complain. Well after 20 + years, I made a change. I feel like a won the lottery as I saved $1,100. I am very disappointed with their ethics and I'm never going back. Do yourself a favor. Shop around before considering them. read more

What good does it do to get "a good deal" on insurance costs if when you need it, its almost a 100% guarantee you will be denied. The only way you wont be denied is if there is literally no way for mercury to spew bullshit or dig up some nonsensical ridiculous reason their "experts" have determined you have no right to be covered, but keep sending that monthly payment. Expensive, Surprise Deductible, and Horrible Customer Service - Avoid Mercury Insurance! I recently had the misfortune of choosing Mercury Insurance for my home insurance, and it has been a complete nightmare. Their rates are outrageously high compared to other insurance companies, and to add insult to injury, I was hit with a massive deductible that was a complete surprise. The cherry on top of this disaster is their abysmal customer service. I don't know if I just had the misfortune of dealing with the worst agent on the planet, but the experience was beyond terrible. Their lack of empathy and unprofessionalism during my flooding relocation debacle was shocking. I've had enough of Mercury Insurance and their incompetence. I'm switching to a different company as soon as humanly possible. In fact, I've easily found at least 5 other insurance providers that offer better coverage and pricing. Beware ! Mercury insurance does not pay market value for your vehicle in the event of a total loss. The tactic they use is to use is to say any factory equipment over the base model is considered a modification and therefor must be disclosed when the policy is written. For example; if you have a Eddie Bauer or Harley Davidson edition ford truck, but fail to tell Mercury in writing when the policy is started, they will only pay for the base model. Mercury treats factory equipment packages as "modified" in order to get out of paying fare market value. P.S. If you actually modify your vehicle (change the wheels and tires, lift a truck etc) they will cancel your policy in the event of a claim and just refund your premiums leaving you with the accident liability. You can read about several high profile cases where a Mercury pulled this maneuver. Mercury is an F rated company for a reason, if only I would have looked into them prior! read more
