This place is great! (as you can see from everyone's reviews) Like the Cannery Ballroom, they bring in a lot of awesome bands. I saw the Protomen and She&Him here as well as some others I can't remember. It's a pretty small club so there's a more intimate setting with the band. You have a pretty good view of the stage no matter where you stand and i don't recall poles all over blocking your view. Then there's an issue with the place overheating. The air vents are in the back and seem to reach only about half of the club. You have to pick your poison, either be up close to the stage and be hot or stand a little further back and stay cool. In the summer during packed bands it'll be even worse. It's not as bad as Cannery since, like I said, you can at least stand in the back for relief from the heat. I've seen a prior review mentioned it being in a "bad area" and I have no no no clue what they're talking about. It's perfectly fine. And it's within close proximity to the convention center and a less than 10 minute walk to the broadway party district. Very cute place. Great servers. But it got HOTTER THAN BLAZES by the time the show started, the A/C system is apparently not designed to keep up with the heat generated by the crowds. And also, I don't know how they haven't been sued b/c they have loose rugs (with no sticky backing) laying around the place and I tripped TWICE on these things that were all bunched up and almost killed myself (didn't see them with a crowd of people around me). I don't know how someone hasn't got injured on them yet! read more

3.5 As an event venue, Mercy is a bit tight. As a music venue, it's intimate. Does that make sense? Enjoyment of the space will entirely depend on what brings you out. To try & enjoy ML as an event venue with many people moving about, the space tends to get very cramped, very quickly. It's hard to pay attention to a variety of things at once because it's rather difficult to move around. It's the sort of space that if you are planning on having an event, you should plan for either something small or something progressive that allows guests to get in and get out to another space. Spending a few hours in the confines can be a touch claustrophobic. As a music venue (its intended and best use), Mercy Lounge makes much more sense. The space that's cramped as an event venue becomes intimate for a musical performance. That has much to with the fact that, typically, for a performance people aren't milling about. They're staying still and being respectful to the performers, other guests and to the venue. For shows, the bartenders are quick and friendly. The beers are $5 a draft pull and the acoustics lend themselves well for concentrating on one thing (with lots of voices and feet bouncing around everywhere, with a lot going on, it can be a bit overwhelming in another setting). Come for the music. Think carefully about an event. Enjoy your time. read more

Somehow I've never reviewed Mercy Lounge. I notice I've covered most of the other music venues in Nashville but slipped up with this one--and some of my earliest Nashville shows took place here. Before I even lived in the area I took a few roadtrips to Nashville to see shows here when bands I really liked were playing. It's mostly a solid place to see a band with a few notable issues. First---it's a great size and decent layout for a mid-sized (popularity wise) band. It's an intimate, up close kind of place. Bigger than the End, smaller than Marathon. They have on-site parking (huge plus) for only $5 (not bad at all). Drinks are cheap. Easy in and out and I've seen some pretty great shows here. So what's not to love? Well...even if you're not an ear-plug fan (and I've made myself become one anyway over the past few years to save my hearing and still keep going to shows) you better become one at least for the night if you're headed to Mercy. That's because the acoustics in this place are outright deafening. One of my favorite bands played here a few years ago and though they are a fairly loud band this was the loudest I've ever heard them and I've seen them 10 times in 10 different venues over the years. Here I could barely make out a word of the vocals (and they have clear vocals typically, a very narrative song-writing is important kind of band). I left with the worst headache of my life. Plus there are some posts and polls in odd places so if it's an active show watch out. And getting to and from the bar with a drink at any point can be cumbersome. That all said, I saw one of the most active shows by one of the loudest bands around here not that long ago and it worked really well with little to no issues for me. Sound was clearer than in previous visits. I've noticed some great shows coming to Mercy in the next few months so I may have to revisit, particularly for the more singer-songwriter style events. read more

Checked out the mercy lounge for the first time last night to see Porches & Girlpool play and I was not disappointed with the music or the venue. It was relatively spacious for a small-medium concert and wasn't overpacked despite there being a decent amount of people there. They also have a fairly affordable drink menu, which is always appreciated. Service was fast and the overall vibe of the venue was cool. My only critique is that their photobooth didn't work and tends to steal people's money -- that being said, they have a sign explicitly stating this, so using the photobooth is really at your own risk. The staff also was very transparent about this. Overall a fun venue, would recommend checking it out! read more

The Mercy Lounge is the favorit-est of my favorite venues in Nashville. Almost all of the bands I like, local and touring, play here at least once when they come through town. It's a smaller, intimate type venue where you can get right up in a performer's face if you want or you can chill out off to the side at a table. It's what I'd picture my own club to be if I was lucky and financially secure enough to have one. Their main bar is long and decorated with vintage pin-up girl characters which helps lend to its rock-n-roll attitude. One of the best things about the Mercy Lounge is it's variety of shows that come there. I think it's one of the few, if not the only, venues in town which are not type-casted to a specific genre or music. Their calendar hosts bands from all ranges of the music spectrum and some weeks I can find myself there almost every night. They have a full bar with a decent selection of beer on draft, you can get local brew Yazoo here which is alright by me. Their drink pricing is pretty standard for a venue but they offer drink specials sometimes on nights they do events with local bands. Every Monday night they have 8 off 8th which is a hosting of various local musicians and bands that rotates from week to week. It's always free and it's a good place to be to cure the Mondays. They have a couple of pool tables and some booths in the back room which is a fun place to hang out in-between sets or during an opening band you're not interested in. They have a limited menu, which I have yet to try, but it looks like you're run of the mill 'i've drank a little too much and need to munch on something to clear my head' kind of bar food. Not overtly disgusting but nothing really to excite me into trying the fare. Their door man is touted as the best in Nashville and the bartenders are nice, but usually busy. The parking lot is limited so come early if you don't want to pay, otherwise the independent lot next door can range anywhere from $5 to $15 depending on the expected turn out and how evil the people that own it feel like being. Another thing to note is that the Mercy Lounge tends to sell out easily, especially for bigger name bands. It's best not to wait on buying tickets to shows here or you might find yourself standing in the parking lot hoping someone has a mercy ticket they'll throw your way. Also its located in the middle of an industrial district next to the railroad tracks, so there isn't really anything within walking distance. So if you feel like continuing your evening somewhere else after a show at the Mercy Lounge I suggest you keep your alcohol intake down to a beer or two. read more

I heart Mercy Lounge, its WAY better than Cannery. The room doesn't have that weird L shape. I have been here twice, once for Mayer Hawthorne and once for Space Capone. The Mayer Hawthorne show was SICK! Sadly it was 1/4 full. On the other hand I got my picture with Mayer after the show, I was a giddy-giggly mess. So that's Mercy's secret. You can see band members walking around through the crowd intermingling with their fans. The place is intimate! How many other venues can you do this? Especially someone as big as Mayer. (We're on a first name basis now.) The other great part about Mercy is the back room. Speakers still allow you to listen to the music but give you space to chill out a bit if you want too. AND, your tab can be used at either the front or back bar. It's really kind of amazing. They have three pools table in the back, some seating and air conditioning. There is also access to the side deck. Really, what more could you ask for? As a concert goer I will continue to see whatever I can at Mercy. read more

Adding to the 5 star trend, is there really anything else to say that others haven't already said? We came to see Pantha Du Prince who was opening for Blonde Redhead. Can't imagine a more awkward combination of folks mingling. The Redhead crowd filtered in slowly over time, probably wondering who the heck was making all that noise with glass bottles and wood on the stage, and why only two people were dancing (me and my date) at the front. I sure as heck don't know why we were the only two people moving around at the front, I mean it's Pantha people! Anyway I digress. So overall: parking was a cinch, getting in was a cinch and since we got there early, we got to the front no problem. Smaller, darker, more intimate, but without being stuffy, claustrophobic or smelly, well not yet at that point in the night. I like the Mercy lounge for a small venue. The sound and lighting was respectable - which is a must to see live music. I enjoyed that they had an outdoor patio so you could sit outside and view the Nashville sky line for a bit if you wanted. The bathrooms were a tight squeeze, but manageable. It did take a bit of time to get a drink, but when you're trying to serve that many people with only a few b-tenders, what else do you expect. I was saddened in the beer selection and the fact there were no drafts on tap! Really you're a bar for brew's sake! So we opted for the $3.00 PBR's which I guess is a good deal if you're 21 and broke LOL. read more

Mercy Lounge hosts a variety of local bands, events, and artists that are gaining popularity. I like Mercy Lounge but it's not my favorite place to see a show. It gets very stuffy up there, and the last time I saw a show I could smell the hipsters as soon as I walked in. It smelled musty. I appreciate the drink specials and smoke free atmosphere, and it's cool to be up on the second floor and have a great view of the city. I will say that you get served drinks rather quickly and they are reasonably priced. But there's just something about it that doesn't get me excited when I hear there is going to be a show here. The parking can be nutso, I remember when the lot outside was free and miss it. Now I have to park down the street (and once I somehow stumbled upon Third Man Records!) and it's a bit of a trek to get there. Good think I typically wear comfortable shoes to a show! I like Mercy Lounge but it's not a venue that gets my engine running. read more

Well, I know this isn't necessary a completely fair judgment, but I can only judge it based on when I was there. Apparently I was there on an unusual quiet day, because it was a Saturday night and there was hardly anyone. It was the Saturday right after gay marriage became legal and all these Pride festivities were going on. Pros: The venue is huge and can accommodate at least 2 groups playing at the same time that wouldn't bother each other since they're on the opposite end of the floor. They have free pool and darts, and I love the balcony (smoker's area) because it has a good view of the city. I didn't smoke, but that didn't mean I didn't enjoy the scenary. Cons: Because there were hardly anyone there, the music was painfully loud, and the only way I could escape it was to go into the pool room. Considering how little people there were, the cover charge seems unnecessary and overly expensive for what we got as an experience. So, all in all, I would have to be really in the mood for music by random bands or my favorite bands play there to go back. There are bajillions of places on Broadway with live music. read more

The Mercy Lounge is one of my favorite venues to see bands in Nashville. It feels a lot like a "Nashville Venue" if there can be such a thing. The building has a very lofty feel with exposed brick, large floor to ceiling windows, and exposed wood support beams. The wood makes the venue feel kinda down home, but the huge windows and the good views of downtown Nashville out the Northern windows make it feel urban. That to me, is the dichotomy of Nashville, it is that little big city. The Mercy lounge stage is at the end of the long rectangular space. There is a lot of standing room from the front of the stage through the center and towards the back of the room. Off to each side of the room they have tables, and the long red bar to one side. The lighting setup for the stage is really good. It helps create a nice mood during the shows, and I think they actually have someone running the light system during the bigger shows. They will often run a recording for the bands as well. Not a lot of venues will do this, but the Mercy Lounge occasionally does. From the perspective of someone who has gone to see bands play, and also played several shows at the Mercy Lounge, I give this venue five stars. The sound system is high quality, and they have good competent sound people. They actually know how to run their monitoring system, so you can hear yourself when you are on the stage. The venue is non-smoking! But, all the cool kids take their smokes and stand around outside on the second floor balcony to mingle and smoke. A good show for locals is the Monday Night 8th off 8th where they showcase 8 artists, each artist plays 3 songs. It's a fun night because all kinds of different people show up, and if the band is bad you know they only have a couple more songs to play! Also, Lightning 100 does some showcases for Local Spotlight artists here, and that always brings out a good local crowd. This is a great venue for local music, and smaller national acts. Mercy is one of my favorite places to see a bigger act because it is easy to get close to the stage even when the crowd is large. It manages to bring the intimate setting of some of the smaller venues into a larger space. Mercy takes good care of the bands that play there and thus are able to maintain a good enough reputation to draw in shows that wouldn't play at a lot of Nashville's other venues. That being said, when shows could have fit in smaller venues I often wish they had because as a hang-out Mercy is less than ideal. The mixed drinks are served teeny tiny and they very rarely have specials (though the $1 Yazoo at the Cream Anniversary last weekend was a great treat). They've been doing a lot of remodeling lately so I look forward to Mercy's future. The new floors were a good sign of progress. The remodeled bathrooms were as well, until they seemed to stagnate at the half-finished point (hopefully not a fitting metaphor for the Mercy's overall progress). It's hard to be a girl in the midst of a sweaty show and not have a bathroom mirror. All in all, Mercy may have its faults, but I know I will keep returning because really, what's my alternative? read more

My boyfriend and I saw Meg Myers with Jarryd James opening last night. This was my first time coming to Mercy Lounge and it's a really nice little venue with exposed brick and red velvet, a bunch of modestly priced drinks and a really nice lighting and sound system. It is a standing venue, and pretty small. I'd say full capacity (standing) is maybe 500 packed tight? Crowd was 18+. Meg rocked, but that doesn't have to be said. *wink* The major downside of this place (and Cannery Ballroom, for that matter) is that there are no seats, and not enough air flow. If you have a delicate constitution, get lightheaded standing in one spot for a long time or are claustrophobic, I can't say I recommend. I don't even have those problems and the lack of air flow, crowding and standing was getting to me. Just a head's up. read more

Mercy Lounge will always have a fond place in my heart, as it's the first place I ever saw Guilty Pleasures (fab 80's band). I've seen so many other shows here I can't even name them. My favorite experience though to date --and this is in all of Nashville not just at ML--was several years ago when I went to see my friend's band Fairfax, and after several hours and MANY drinks later, another band took the stage. They just happened to be in the area and wanted to sing a song. The band? REM!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah. The place is that cool! I've also seen many celebs there, if that's your thing. They'll stop in on any given show, any given day. The bar area is roomy and well-stocked, and the bartenders are as efficient as possible. Friendly too! My advice if you want to see great live music in Nashville, and you should--check Mercy's website. You can't go wrong with any of the music there! And the drinks aren't half bad either... read more

Mercy Lounge is obviously a major player in the Nashville music scene. The focus is definitely on the show - the sound quality was awesome, and the local bands were surprisingly great. Admission was a super reasonable $10. Even though the venue is serious about their music, the space and the crowd give the impression that this is just a regular hangout with no pretenses. Bartenders were responsive, always looked your way despite how busy the place was, and somehow understood what you said despite the fact that they probably couldn't hear you at all. We did have a funny time counting the number of minorities... it totaled 5 or 6 that night, across several hours, for a packed room across a huge space. Not so great, but I do realize it's Nashville.. Worth a visit as a tourist? Yes! It's not a visit to Nashville without live music. Mercy puts on great shows that feel representative of the talent that Nashville has to offer. read more

Just when I think that I couldn't be more smitten with Mercy Lounge... I attended my first Rock and Roll Trivia Night on Monday. Sure, I only answered one answer correctly. Yea, I don't normally get all too thrilled about beer specials but I drank 3 beers like a real sport. Not to mention that I am still partially hungover from the weekend's mischief. With all that being said, I had an absolute blast and can't wait to get a couple of groups together and make this a regular part of my schedule. One of the two primary 500-capacity standing room rock clubs in Nashville (the other being Exit/In), Mercy Lounge is a solid music venue. Situated at 1 Cannery Row, Mercy Lounge is part of a complex of music venues, including the larger Cannery Ballroom and smaller High Watt - together, quite the music hub! In an old cannery factory/warehouse, each room has an industrial feel, with hardwood floors, exposed brick and ventilation, and high ceilings. At Mercy Lounge, you'll find both local and nationally touring acts. The sound here is generally good, though a number of factors go into that (PA system, band, sound engineer, number of bodies in the room, etc.). The floor plan here is nice, with the stage in the front of the room, bathrooms in the back of the room, the bar and merch table on separate sides of the back half of the room, and a slightly elevated area with bistro tables/stools between the bar and stage. Also available is an uncovered, outdoor deck, where smoking is permitted. The bar offers a decent selection of fairly priced beer, liquor, and wine, and the bartenders do a good job. Parking can be tricky, especially on nights with multiple rooms hosting shows. There is a $5 paid parking lot at the venue, but I generally look for free parking on adjacent streets first. My biggest gripe with Mercy Lounge is the structural columns that, depending on where you stand, can partially obstruct your view of the stage. So keep that in mind when hunkering down for your spot. read more

Mercy Lounge, it has been twice now that you have provided an awesome drinking experience. Whiskey fueled dancing, furious drinking, laughing and tom foolery. This place is a host to an excellent music venue. The crowd both times was, fun, enthusiastic, non-violent, and raging or maybe that was just us.. bonus. The new years eve event was fucking awesome. Sweet ass 90's cover band destroyed the venue. And as I am attempting to recall the night through a whiskey tinted memories. One thing is for sure.. We had a blast.. and will return. read more

My mom, fiancée, and I saw the Ultimate Garth Brooks Tribute this Saturday. We had a wonderful time. The band was fantastic and the staff was amazing! My mom needs to use a wheelchair because of arthritis in her knee. Eron was very kind and made sure that we were comfortable. They personally escorted us from the elevator to the stage area and made sure my mom had a great view of the performance. Additionally, the staff is extremely responsive via email. My fiancée emailed the venue in advance to make sure that the space was wheelchair accessible. The staff responded immediately. It's no secret that Cannery Ballroom is NOT my favorite venue. I feel like the acoustics in there totally suck unless you're right up front. However, I'm pretty obsessed with it's sister venue, Mercy Lounge. From big names to local favorites, this music venue will never disappoint. The drinks are reasonably priced, they have pool tables, Monday night rock 'n' roll trivia, the owner is a riot and the music has and IS always top notch. I dropped by here last week to see my first concert since moving to Nashville. As I had come to see the band, and hadn't heard anything about the venue, I came in fresh with no preconceptions. What I found was one of the best small concert venues I've had the pleasure to experience in my three decades on this planet. The stage is perfectly set -- accessible to a GA crowd with excellent site lines. The sound system was great, though the drums/bass can easily overpower the higher register instruments and vocals in space like this if not balanced correctly. I really dig this place as a music venue. Been here to see a bunch of acts, one cool thing about this place is that it seems to get some pretty cool, big performers, but it is in a nice, intimate venue. I also like the bar, they really charge fair prices and it always seems as if I paid too little. You're stuck with plastic glasses as far as I can tell, but it's probably for the better. They also always seem to have really good draft beer, not crappy domestic swill like Budweiser, but cool craft microbrews like Yazoo and the like. They also have cocktail specials, but seriously, the magic is kind of lost for me when I get a fancy gin in a Solo cup. But they have no problem poring healthy doses of whiskey when needed. Wait times are all really reasonable, too. They have a side room that I've only been to once when I went to a party to celebrate the release of Jack Daniel's Honey Spew, the most foul-tasting brown water ever conceived. But hey, the party was nice! They also have a nice deck for the smokers, if that is your bag. All-in-all, a really nice scene. read more

It always seems like a friend or a friend's band is playing here for 8 off 8th on Mondays. For that alone, I come here probably more frequently than I do any other venue. I think my 2 favorite shows I've seen here were when DeerHoof played on the Milk Man tour and seeing Wanda Jackson on my birthday. Both shows were superb and oh so memorable. The Mercy has 1 really great thing going for it: Artists can play here on an intimate level while fans have plenty of room to stretch out and get comfortable. The venue is also a loft with a pretty good bar and a smoking patio with a lovely view of downtown Nashville. I must agree with everyone prior to my review. What's been said about the Mercy Lounge has been said many times. We all have a favorite show and good experiences at this place. It's a solid venue that isn't going anywhere anytime soon. read more

This is easily my favorite music venue in Nashville. Most of the bands I love play at one of the three stages in this multi-venue complex, and I look forward to the Mercy Lounge stage the most. Mercy Lounge is the perfect medium-size venue. The stage is viewable from almost anywhere in the room, the drinks are reasonably priced for a concert venue (especially the tallboy PBR cans), and the acoustics have that great "old brick warehouse" sound. I'm leaving off the fifth star because of the lack of free parking. This isn't a tourist trap on lower Broadway. While $5 is not outrageous for parking in Nashville, it's still annoying to pay on top of the ticket price and service fees we have to shell out for to get in the door. I usually try to get there early and grab one of quickly-disappearing off-the-street spots a little closer to Cummins Station. read more

Mercy is a staple in Nashville and a really great venue. But that is kinda where it ends. No bells and whistles, very basic, certainly needs some upgrading, bathrooms are horrid. It kinda just is what it is. But that is okay. I'm not here for the venue, I am here for the shows. It's not a place to go "party" - it's a place to see a good show. It beats out places like 12th and porter ANY day. But they book great shows, always have a friendly staff, management is great. read more

I LOVE the Mercy Lounge! I've seen SO many awesome shows there, like VHS or Beta, and last weekend there was a free event to celebrate their 5 year anniversary with some amazing bands. Since I have only been here once, I am going to revisit this review and update it. A few key points to make: Because I went solo to a show; I was able to branch out and check out the facilities a bit more in detail. I really enjoyed the wall of posters showing the upcoming shows that are near the bathrooms. The bathrooms are a bit rough, but it is a music venue after all, right?! The staff here were really great. They were informative, accurate and went out of their way to explain to me the history of the building. Thanks for the shot! The sound was good. However, the sound guy/engineer wasn't having his best day. The timing of change on stage to the sound were off and at time not even balanced right. I was able to find the "sweet spot" and like the acoustics of the venue. But, keying in sound is an art and I just wasn't feeling it. The trains that run very near to the venue give this place a unique vibe. And, its also a bit distracting. The rough cut timber, exposed brick walls and very high ceilings give this venue a good vibe. The show was only about 25% full. Mercy Lounge is a great place to catch a rock show and grab a cheap drink. It is attached to the same building as Cannery Ballroom, but the layout of the Mercy is much better. The place can fill up on a night where they have the 8 off 8th showcase. I've played in my band for it before, it's a great way to be introduced to Nashville as you get a sample of 8 awesome bands, both newcomers and bands that have been around for a while. When I first thought of the music scene in Nashville before I moved here, I would automatically think of the lower Broad honky tonk bars blasting out country covers all night. I didn't really think of a place like the Mercy Lounge. But it is refreshing to see that music other than country is making a bigger presence in our city. It's places like the Mercy Lounge that I have to thank for that. read more
