    Soccer Mommy - 6/9/24
    Dustin H.

First time to finally check out The Blue Room (for the Soccer Mommy show on 6/9/24) but I'll be back for a few other shows this summer. It's a really great place to see a show. It's a small room, so if the show is sold out like the one I attended is it will get crowded but not oppressively so--I was never pushed out of my space or shifted around and there were always bubbles of extra space to move around as needed. The sound in here is fantastic and the lighting is perfect. Drinks are reasonable and beer is cheap--just don't expect to get one very quickly from the indoor bar as you're going to be in line for a bit. Really no major complaints. Parking is iffy and the neighborhood can get a little unpredictable after dark so if at all possible you may want to take and Uber or catch a ride instead of parking in the area if you have the option.

Anything Jack white touches turns to blue. Best flex of a spot to take someone who's never been here to see their reaction to the Wonka vibes it delightfully gives you throughout the entire experience. This spot has different things going on throughout the month, check their event calendar as it constantly updates. Loads of free events here. Delicious drinks and awesome staff. 10/10! Best of Nashville.

Now the star of the show was Malik ( hope I'm spelling it correctly) he was a joy to the experience that I had. We walked in at the right time for the group tasting. I'm 30 years old and have used this license without issue for years. When I asked what specifically was wrong with the ID, nobody could provide an explanation. Instead, staff consulted a manager and simply told me they would not be serving me. Meanwhile, the other members of my group, all around the same age and carrying valid IDs, were able to order drinks without issue. As an Asian customer, I left this establishment believing I was racially profiled. I was singled out, denied service despite presenting valid identification, and never given a legitimate explanation for why my ID was supposedly unacceptable. Since the incident, I have found multiple reviews from other customers of color describing experiences that raised similar concerns about profiling and disparate treatment. The entire experience was humiliating, unprofessional, and unacceptable. There are plenty of businesses in Nashville that can verify IDs without treating customers this way.

There's a row of boots on the wall, which I think is for display only and a call out to the time when they actually sold boots here. This historic building itself feels like a shotgun (long and narrow) and apparently once served as a Civil War warehouse and later the Sho-Bud Steel Guitar Company. To prolong our stay, we ordered cheeseburgers and beer (fries and onion rings were extra) for brunch. I tried to interest folks in their $6 "Recession Special" - A grilled or fried bologna sandwich piled high, with a bag of potato chips, a Moon Pie, and a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) beer, but got no takers. We sat up on the balcony, which we had all to ourselves and with a nice view to the main floor below. Our waitresses were down home friendly, hard working, and good at what they were doing. We felt right at home and this was perhaps the most classic and authentic Nashville experience we had here. The band even wished my Happy Birthday. :)

There was no live music available at the time, but they did have a DJ which I thought was spinning the turntable rather well. It's my bad that I didn't also catch on that his is basically a Tequila Bar, rather than a more general craft cocktail establishment. Judging by the well stocked bar and the word of our waitress, other alcohol and their associated craft creations are available, but it's pretty much off menu and not well into our waitress' repertoire. And yes, Cinco de Mayo was just a few days away. One member of our party just wanted a soft drink, which was not possible that night as their CO2 was down. That did make me wonder whether the non-alcohol drinkers had much to chose from here. I suppose we could have then wandered over to the Redemption Bar at Chief's? Anyway, we're not Tequila Drinkers, and since other drink options appeared to be guesswork, we left towards more traditional mixed drinks (and live music) at a nearby Printers Alley bar. This was a rare night that I really wanted a craft cocktail in a smooth environment, and in the end it just wasn't the same.

Our seating was prime with the beautiful supper club ambiance, the food was the best meal of our whole trip (I especially loved the new tomato-goat cheese appetizer-I would eat that for dinner!), and the service and hospitality was top notch. I had a cucumber gimlet that was so light and balanced to start as we enjoyed the first band of the evening entertainment. The appetizers were amazing - crispy artichokes and potstickers. The filet was cooked perfectly, and my husband's chicken was tender and according to him, "the best I've ever had." We finished with an espresso martini that was dessert in a glass as we really enjoyed the second band, who entertained everyone with such energy, and a conga line! So. Much. Fun! Thank you, Marco, for how intentional everything was during our visit. You really have the art of hospitality down to a science.
