It was always a pleasant experience. At some point, a macho-looking guy started working there, and almost every time we ordered, he would mess up either my order or my friend's. When I brought back the wrong drink, he not only failed to apologize but would grumpily exchange it for the correct item. If it had happened only once or twice, I would have dismissed it as him having a bad day. But since it kept happening so frequently, we eventually stopped going there. They are conveniently located a few doors down from Planet Fitness on Steinway Street so when I walk to the gym every morning between 6-7AM, you get that smell of fresh baked bread and coffee. It is heaven! I always get the three cheese breads for $5; which are the perfect size to have with a cup of coffee in the mornings or a slice of pionono; which is the perfect size dessert. I had originally planned to get breakfast somewhere else but I'm glad I stopped here. I need coffee in the morning to feel alert and human so I got some. I ordered the French breakfast croissant and a scone from the bakery case to eat on the train later. There was a fair amount of seating available and there were outlets, which I am always looking for. Because I had my suitcase I noticed right away that the space is very narrow. They also have a time limit on seating due to space concerns which is not uncommon for NYC. I didn't run into any issues, just a consideration. My coffee and breakfast croissant were delicious. The croissant was flaky and buttery and the eggs and mushrooms complemented the flavor, and the little salad on the side added some freshness. The space was sunny and there was art on display with an explanatory plaque. The bathroom was papered with newsprint including French recipes I wanted to write down. Long Island City was a convenient place to stay when I was visiting and I wanted to explore the neighborhood more than I did, so I'm glad I found Cafe Coco before I left.

It's a narrow small cafe but has a fair amount of seating for solo cafe trips or perhaps meeting someone. No large groups indoors. But they did have a backyard outdoor seating which with the summer heat smelled like a dry wood sauna in a really good way. It was a cozy feeling. They had some fans running outdoor too which was considerate. Now for food, my friend got the white chocolate latte while I grabbed the lemon tart (almond flour cake) and a sea salt chocolate chip cookie. CC cookie: maybe around a 3.7-4 out of 5. The texture was surprisingly soft and chewy. Like REALLY chewy. It looked like it would have some crunch or crisp to the edges but it was all soft and chewy. If that's your thing you'll love it. I thought the flavor itself is not bad but definitely like my cookies a bit more crispy on the edges. Would go good with milk tart: 4/5 good lemon flavor, more dense than I expected but very moist and delicious. I would definitely get it again because I am biased towards almond flour cakes. Would go great with coffee or tea and is imo a perfect summer treat. Especially slightly chilled. White chocolate coffee: not strong white chocolate flavor, just a standard avg coffee. Not a deal breaker but would not seal the deal as a 5 star cafe unfortunately. I haven't tried the breakfast options so I'll definitely come back for that.
