Have tried this place several times and given them many chances. All times mediocre or subpar, and too expensive. This is not a luxury bakery to be charging luxury prices. On our most recent visit we got almond croissant and a pistachio cream croissant. Both were stale and bready. Basically bread rolls at about 5 bucks each. On our visit prior they were selling valentine's day cookies in late march at full price. They are cutting corners for profit. Will not return. read more

So happy they redesigned this bakery it looks so beautiful and clean inside. I have lived in astoria almost 10 years and it was until recently that I started coming here. The staff is really nice and the desserts are delicious! I love there pumpkin spice iced latte,cookies,ham croissant. What an upgrade! Astoria Bakery is the cleanest coffee cafe in the neighborhood. It's a totally different shop than what the owners bought it as. The cannolis and Oreo truffles are crazy delish. My friend is addicted to the raspberry cookies. We are regulars here and the women who help us have noticed. The treats are endless and always the freshest they can be. Watch carefully as the bakers are in and out putting out the freshest batch of each treat. Yum! The rewards program is great, for every 100 points spent you earn one $6.50 coupon that can be used on anything in the cafe. It's all digital, just type in your phone number when checking out to earn and redeem your points. Come in on a Saturday morning (mask, please) to grab a mini cheese spinach pie and a latte. I will start with the good: almond croissant is delicious and they have good bread. The not so good: cappuccino was weak. I tried giving it another try by asking for an additional shot and it just made it bitter but no real coffee/espresso flavor. They should consider changing their brand. My teen daughter who is obsessed with cupcakes and sweets said theirs weren't palatable because they were too sweet! After taking a bite of the cupcake I had to agree! Why?! This is a great little bakery and Café located on Dipmar's Boulevard corner of 45th St. It's been a business since 1964 and provides a wide variety of bake goods including cakes and cookies along with pastries. They have an amazing assortment of croissants and other bakery goods for breakfast. Give the Apple tart a try as well as the mozzarella and tomato croissant. Saw this cute store on my way to therapy, stopped and made an order for custom cake with my company's logo and 12 cupcakes (blue/orange) for an event I was hosting as I am an event coordinator at LaGuardia airport. What an embarrassment, ax I opened to see my order, unfinished cupcakes (no frosting), cake was not near the picture I provided her. This is a charming little space with a lot of outdoor seating on the corner of the street. They have a variety of cookies with fruit filling or chocolate and other desserts like tartes. I got a few biscotti from here and loved them because they were soft and easy to bite into. Lots of enticing options to choose from, but settled on a simple Sugared Jelly Donut ($1.50). Soft donut with a sweet punch from the sugar on top - jelly inside is your standard grape variety. Astoria Bakery is a nice family run business that has been serving the Ditmars area for the better part of 45 years. This place doesn't get as much kudos as nearby rival Martha's Country Bakery or La Guli but they still serve a decent variety of old school Italian treats and desserts. Food always tastes best fresh. Their "just out of the oven" times usually in the mornings and afternoons, when during most of the day they're in the back making up fresh batches of everything from mini-cakes to depleted cannolis. The college looking girl (daughter?!) seems to be in the front often with a cute smile and friendly service enough to keep waiting customers happy while giving thorough explanations of every item. Generally their fruit tarts and little cakes are what keep me coming back. Cannolis and various sweet breads are also pretty decent. The prices are also pretty solid, ranging from $1-3 per item and each one is fairly big. I will say I'm not a fan of the mini cupcakes or most of their cookies. The dryness of the cookies and overly crunchy texture has kept me from wanting more. Another negative is the fact they close so early every day, leaving only Ditmars locals to sample their goods. With Martha's opening till midnight on some nights, it's no wonder they're getting the bulk of the attention. read more

This unassuming bakery is a hidden gem. The decor and eating space is standard, they have a spacious outdoor space that's comfortable even in rain. The food and coffee are amazing. I went back and forth whether to post this. First, please notice that I gave AB&C four stars. The decor is excellent, the people inside are very nice and everything I have had - iced coffee, cookies and the shake I just murdered - are excellent. I want this place to succeed. It's one of three places close to me (Krave, Loukoumi) that I have tried to support during the pandemic, even when I'm not working. If what I write below doesn't bother you, then consider this a 5 star review and please support them. I mean that. So, there is one thing that really disappoints me. And this is after I just got home from there. There is a sign outside...a rather nice one...asking people to wear a mask inside. This is obviously out of respect to the employees and patrons. I've been inside multiple times when there were customers without masks. It happened again today, so I politely mentioned something (I believe to the owner, not sure...super nice guy). He was brutally honest with me, which I appreciate, when he told me that he's afraid they'll lose customers and/or get bad Yelp reviews if something is said to customers who don't wear masks. I know businesses are struggling. I understand where this is coming from. But one, the sign is just a facade then. Two, it's a slap in the face to customers who wear masks - and the employees who risk their health to work there. I'd have more respect for the answer if the sign wasn't there. But to be afraid of someone who might post a bad Yelp review because you asked them to put on a mask? C'mon. Most normal people would read that bad review and move on. Again, I understand his point of view from a business standpoint. But as a customer, I am not sure what to do, whether to support it anymore. This isn't the only business who does it. Krave does as well, as do many others. For folks like me, we have to accept that many folks won't wear masks. But I don't have to accept when a business posts a sign that says they care and then doesn't execute caring...even if for their own employees. Which sucks. I really, really like the place. I searched high and low for an affordable, quality bakery for my wedding cake this past October. Let me tell you something: ASTORIA BAKERY is UNREAL. They made a gorgeous red-velvet cake (I posted pics) and UNBELIEVABLE cream cheese frosting. I brought in a picture of a cake design I liked and they replicated it to a tee. As if this wasn't enough, they charged HUNDREDS of dollars less than any Manhattan bakery, delivered the cake on time to my Tribeca reception site. Ask for Jack. He was amazing to work with, and the two times my fiance went in to drop off payment and finalize plans, he sent him home with a complimentary large box of treats for "the bride" (that would be me!!). This is real small-town, old-school Italian treatment and prices. They made us feel like family. And that cake.....WOW. They blow Magnolia and Buttercup Bakeshop's red velvet out of the park. We got our sons first birthday cake here. They told us we could have exactly what we wanted no matter what it was. We got yellow cake with chocolate butter cream filling and whipped cream frosting. I made no mention of decoration but they went ahead and made the cake absolutely beautiful. They made a great memory for our party and we are very grateful for that. It's a bit off the beaten path for ditmars blvd but absolutely worth the detour. read more
