I barely visit this restaurant because of the tiny space inside, I feel suffocating! But the food is actually pretty good . So this time one of my friend took me there saying they renovated the place. So I decided to give it a try, like always place is very busy. But it did look much better & cleaner. It's an authentic Bangladeshi restaurant, also share the space with a Tibet restaurant on the corner! Food is 100% halal & service is always great. I love their sweets too. We tried traditional Bangladeshi polau, beef bhuna( curry), chicken shikh kabab. Curry was pretty good but too sweet for my test. The beef curry reminded me of wedding food. I definitely wished the curry was spicy tho! While I was eating my food I saw they put coriander leaves on beef tehary, never in my widest dream I thought I would seen something like this! Ate here tonight after working at the US Open as guest services. I had brought both the vegetable samosa and garlic naan that it was really good, delicious and fresh. Food here is flavorful and the prices very affordable. More than fair portions for the price too. It's a bustling space, tables to sit but quite a few of the tables are right next to the steam tables so you can't exactly walk right up and take a look. Still most is visible if you're tall lol. This place is filled with locals who you can tell know exactly what they want without even looking. Don't expect to find a seat immediately because the seating is far less than the constant flow of customers. My son and I waited around 10 mins, kind felt like we were starring at people just waiting for them to finsh eating so we could swoop in and snag a table. ( there's no host seating as this is a very casual spot). The server saw us standing and told me he'd take my order and reasurred me someone would be done eating soon. He was right, 2 minutes later we scored a table. Worked out perfectly cause our food was on our table 5 mins after. We got Chicken Samosa ( 2 generously stuffed slightly spicy ones ) 2.99 and piping hot. As a matter of fact, several times during our meal I observed kitchen workers walk by with trays full of Samosas ready for frying. My son got the spicy Tandoori wings , the char and spices were perfect. He immediately ordered more to go. I got the one of the combination meals- rice ,dhal , goat and potato (choice of veggies). Couldn't finish all the rice even sharing with my son. Very hearty portion. Got a nice cup of chai too, much needed as it was so windy and cold outside. All that came to a mere $21 . We ordered Chicken Biriani, Aloo Paratha, Garlic Nan, more chicken samosas and wings to go - $27. Man good food at these prices , amazing. If you get out at the correct entrance (accoring to City Mapper) you will be standing right in front the shop when you exit the subway stairs. Also noteworthy, this restaurant is sort of divided in 3 sections. At the very front is the take out section , you can order right from the front door area . My sister raves about this place for their vegetable samosas. They come in 2 pieces for $3, $1.50 each. The exterior is perfectly crispy and the filling is flavorful. The size of the samosas is HUGE and they also come with green chutney for each samosa. How thoughtful -- it's like preparing each samosa for success, guaranteeing that the flavors just explode in your mouth. We've also tried their chicken samosas, which are also great. However, the vegetable samosas are far superior imo. We haven't had anything else from here so note that this review is based on the samosas only. Samosa-wise, other places can't compete. This restaurant got much neater, lighter and cleaner after recent reopening. Me and my friends absolutely love the food here. We usually order garlic Nan, chicken tikka masala, goat curry, peas soup and fried eggplant. They sometimes give free peas soup upon request. It was one of the first spots me and my friends tried on our self-led Queens food tour based on the borough's very own rapper/chef, Action Bronson, and the restaurants he featured there on his Vice show "F*CK That's Delciious". This review is only for their chai and their samosas. It's such a busy place that I was a little intimidated by their menu so I stuck with those two things. But goodness what a great choice I made. The chicken samosa was superior- really nicely spiced and fat with meat. So plump- juicy and crispy. I did enjoy the vegetable samosa as well but the chicken was the clear winner. The chai was nice and smooth though I wish it was a little stronger in the green cardamon. Just make sure to double check how much they charge you- I think they over charged me when I went my first time so just kindly ask them how much the item is before you order to make sure there's no confusion. They just renovated this place and it looks nice. The food was superb!!! Food-ordered egg curry, rice, spinach and samosa (meat). Out of this world good. The only thing is it was closed for awhile due to renovation, so it can be hard to confirm if this place is open or not. Ambience- hole in the wall vibes, gets full fast, but people are friendly and you can join another table. Price-reasonable. Staff- get the job done. A very local go-to restaurant for quick pick-up. Checked their reviews and can tell they are here for quite a while. A Bangladeshi quick food and kebab place. A bit puzzled when first walked in and had no idea how to order at the beginning. But the staff was nice. Ordered the palak paneer. Compared to other restaurants I tried in Jackson Heights they added tomato and were less creamy. A bit too spicy but tasted yummy. I also tried the chicken Kebab, which was juicy. I've always scoffed at my Bangladeshi parents for seeking out Deshi food on their travels, especially when they're in NYC. Why ignore the numerous restaurants and holes in the wall where exciting culinary creations are being explored for food that you can make at home any time?? All this cynicism was swiftly swept away when I saw a man carrying out an enormous platter - like Atlas holding up the world - of giant Jilebi fresh from the fryer. I knew I had to have one and when I finally but into the Jilebi, it's sweet, sticky syrup bursting into my mouth, oh baby did I discover what love truly means Ok, but before dessert let's talk about dinner. You absolutely must get a Laccha Paratha and wrap it around literally any of the curries, but Beef Kala Bhuna is probably your best choice for this combo. The Koral Fish Curry was SO delicious. It tasted fresher than any fish I've had, not too fishy or oily at all. I feel like the Chicken Behari Kabob was probably the least Bangladeshi of all the foods we had, but even that was spectacular. The grill items are the first you'll see when you walk into the restaurant, and I won't blame you if you're so captivated by these sights that you don't order any of the OG Bangladeshi foods. But be strong, order a grill item sure, but don't miss out on all the essential Bangladeshi foods (as mentioned above). The Begoon Bhaja and kala jeera pulau are phenomenal and fresh too. The only thing I was disappointed by was the Chicken Roast; it tasted a little old and the flavors weren't quite up to par. Ok now for dessert: DEF get a kala jam and a jilebi. If I'd had any more room in my belly, I would have ordered another laccha paratha to wrap around my kala jam. Next time inshallah Look, mom's cooking always comes first, but when Amma is the one raving about the food you know it's gotta be good. Nice local place in the area of Jackson heights. The atmosphere is very busy but warming. Our server was very enthusiastic, nice and made us laugh a bit with his humor. Food was pretty good, can't really complain too much with the price point. Got goat biryani and 2 samosas (one chicken and one vegetable). I kid you not I have passed by this place so many times in Jackson Heights and never went inside. Although the delicious sweets I saw from the windows made my mouth watering. So finally my friend and I visited on a Saturday afternoon. Must they are COVID friendly. Initially we were going to do take out but decided to enjoy our meal there. They have buffet style with fresh food and they carry a vegetarian selection as well as meat and fish. We ordered curry chicken, curry goat, basmati rice, dhal and spinach with cheese in it. I must add the portions were large, however my friend and I asked for take out boxes so we can have the rest later on at home. I really enjoyed the curry goat with basmati rice. The curry goat was not too spicy and the meat was very tender. Overall the curry was well flavored and tasted delicious when I mixed it with the dhal and spinach. It was delightful to enjoy an authentic Indian meal in a restaurant especially in the neighborhood. We then ordered some sweets such as Jalebi. They make their sweets fresh and they sell by a pound. I absolutely love this restaurant. Restaurants like this are what make tracking down restaurants in NYC worthwhile, not restaurants selling $18 bowls of ramen with lines of people with huge scarves, handlebar mustaches, manbuns, or a combination thereof snaking outside. It is no frills, the food is quite good, and due to its location and said lack of frills, it is dirt cheap. It is located right next to a staircase for the above-ground 7 line subway station at Roosevelt Ave. station, wedged in between countless other stores serving the South Asian diaspora. There is a Tibetan restaurant in the back that I have yet to try, so between that and the apparent popularity of Merit Kebab, it gets crowded and fast. If you hate the idea of others sharing your table or booth with you due a lack of seats, this restaurant is not for you. I'm a huge fan of their lunch specials; for $9, you get a curry of your choice (goat, chicken, fish, or beef (!!)), rice, mixed vegetables, lentil soup which is rather spicy, and a "salad," which is some lettuce and cucumber slices on a small paper plate. This is not the highest quality Indian food you will ever eat in your entire life, but it's pretty good, and for the price, it's an insanely good deal. I am almost always the only white guy in here eating, with everyone else seemingly originally from South Asia and elsewhere, so if people whom I presume grew up eating food like this frequent this restaurant, it's the real deal. I wish they did not use plastic utensils, given the waste, but I do my part by bringing them with me and then throwing them in the recycling bin where I live, just to be safe. In summation, if you want some good South Asian food for an insanely good price, swing by here for a lunch special or just come by for dinner and start trying new things. The only turn off is because the food is cooked early in the morning it's heated by microwave which makes sense due to the large quantities they cook but is kind of a turn off. I opted to heat my food at home but ate the samosa right away ( They heat it in the microwave). It was pretty good but had a mushy consistency compared to other samosas, but the potatoes and veggies were well flavored and the outer shell was buttery and light. The channa masala(chick pease) were very strong in flavor but n ou t off putting at all.
