I'm shocked that the reviews here are so low, this is some of the best Bangladeshi food I've ever had and the service was extremely friendly. I'm from Silicon Valley and we're swimming in Indian restaurants from every region. We initially came in for a quick bite before dinner plans in the area. I got a chicken lollipop and samosa and was surprised by how much flavor it had. My expectations were low since they said they didn't have any chutney to come with the samosa and offered ketchup instead. However it definitely didn't need it and had so much flavor and moisture on its own. As we were munching on our two small items, we were consumed by the smell of the other dishes they had. We left to dinner at the other restaurant and were completely stuffed, but I HAD to swing back to this restaurant to get some of their curries togo. I got one of the fish curries which had some pickled vegetables and one of the goat curries. I've never had this much depth in a fish or goat curry before and it beat out any I've had before. I was literally sucking as much of the gravy as I could from the bones when I got back because I knew I wouldn't be able to have this level of depth and flavor in a curry when I get back to California. The service was so friendly. They were smiling and chatting with us while we ordered and were attentive in the beginning even though we got two small items for like 5 bucks. For full disclosure, we're East Asian and this was our first time trying Bangladesh cuisine. The goat biryani was delicious. The goat curry and fish were both good, but the portions were a bit small. The restaurant was clean and the table layout had a diner feel to it. The staff checked on us a few times and made sure to clear the dirty dishes. I feel it'll be more inviting if they had labels for the food since everything is new to us. We were a bit clueless about what they were, how much they cost, or what they came. Their overhead menu was only for the fried chicken and burgers. We were never given our check and ended up paying at the register. I didn't know the tip was already included in the bill, and that the gratuity screen would pop up. I ended up tipping twice, which wasn't much more, but it left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth because I felt like I was being deceived. read more

Saw this cute little restaurant on the way to catch the subway during a recent trip to NY. The desserts in the window looked fabulous. So one night, while picking up some food for the trip home, we decided to give them a try! We ordered the chocolate moose and Mango Lassi. Both desserts were amazing. Well I seen from facebook about hello Bangladesh restaurant, so went to try the place today what a bad experience we had. Starting from somasa no salt ,then sheek kebab, Chapli kebab no flavor and dry, lollipop chicken no flavor, momos it was completely dried, then kala beef bhuna it was ok but no serving spoon. We ordered naan it ok but parata no taste but only smell like old oil it was waste of our time and money. We was like discriminate I was looking around all the customers had real dinner plates on the table , except us we was served with paper plates. The place needs good training with service and needs good chef to stay in business. Btw they need to put paper towels by the hand washing sink. read more

Great addition to the neighborhood. Food and service are spot on. It's a comfortable welcoming space for a family meal here or just tea with dessert. We tried a traditional fish dish done two different ways (one with mustard seed the other fried), beef tehari and a mixed vegetable. Good variety of options, some vegetarian but mostly contain meat. True to Bangladeshi cuisine, everything is pretty spicy. The alu vorta and bhortas were incredibly spicy. Much of the holiday selection was fried items. Worth visiting if you have a high spice tolerance and eat meat. Service was very helpful, those who didn't understand quickly brought over someone who did. They were patient and explained each dish and answered questions. It's very hard to find Bangladeshi food anywhere, and when I find it, I have to try it. At Hello Bangladesh, there is an assortment of different types of rice and biryanis, chicken and beef curries, as well as a few veggie dishes. I ordered the chicken biryani and saag paneer. It came out to a very affordable $8 (it is almost impossible to find a meal this cheap in NYC). The saag paneer was so flavorful and rich while the chicken biryani had the perfect amount of spice. My one issue with the biryani were the chicken bones in it, but this is typical in Bangladeshi cuisine--just make sure to watch what you're eating if you get a biryani or curry with bones in it. read more

We ordered: - 2 goat biryanis - 2 chicken lollipops - 1 momo - 1 yogurt After sitting for over 15 minutes, we realized most of our food hadn't even arrived. My friend went to grab samosas himself like it was self-service. When we asked the server where the rest was, another guy came over and said, "We made it and put it back." Huh?? What does that even mean? Cooked food and tossed it in reverse? When the food finally came, the goat biryani smelled like it was marinated in regret -- stale, off, and probably made when Nokia was still cool. The momos were bone-dry, and the chicken lollipops looked radioactive with all the red dye dumped on them. Even worse? We ordered two half goat biryanis and got served a full and a half. Had to point it out like we were auditing their kitchen. And to top it all off -- the table next to us sounded like a political debate club straight from a tea stall. Loud, annoying, and totally unbothered by the disaster being served. This wasn't a meal -- it was a health hazard. If the NYC health inspector isn't knocking soon, I'd be shocked. Rotten food. Ran inside to use the bathroom which was very clean and also grabbed a pastry to try as I've never tried Bangladeshi food. $8 got me this huge square warm pastry that was filled with chicken and egg. I'm not sure what it's called but it was very delicious! They chopped it up and boxed it. It was a good size portion for the price. The staff were very friendly and explained what everything was. I am Bengali and I can vouch that this place is the real deal!!! I ate lunch on Saturday and came right back again on Sunday, their cooking was so good. Not just the food but also the hospitality is also amazing. A particularly excellent find was the "Bogurar mishti doi" (sweetened yoghurt from Bogura district) which brought memories flooding back of my childhood festival lunches.
