After lunch, I decided to stop in this small shop for some ice cream. They are next door to each other in the Bethel Pike Shopping Center north of McGalliard, so finding free parking was easy, though a little crowded. Inside the sweet shop, there are tables for guests who wish to enjoy their choices while there. At the back is a long counter with their buckets of ice cream on display. You can get samples of their flavors before purchase. Note on the right hand side is a list of daily specials that might be of use. There are also menu boards for pairings of ice cream and cookies that are available. I went with a lighter option and chose a raspberry sorbet (sherbet?) The woman behind the counter was friendly and promptly helped me with my order. She pointed out that my order qualified for a daily discount which I had missed. Very nice! It was mid afternoon and from what I could see one employee working. She was in the back when we walked in, and she didn't acknowledge us or anything. It was several minutes until she walked up to the register and stood there. Again, didn't acknowledge us or even look at us, I wasn't sure if she was ready to take our order or not, but I went up and ordered. She didn't say anything. Seemed to be completely annoyed that we were even there (we only ordered 2 cookies). She walked off to bag our order before I paid then handed me the cookies and walked to the back. I'm sure people have off days or maybe have some things going on, but at least acknowledging your customers and saying "hi"and/or "thank you" would be better for your business.

Insomnia hits the classics like snickerdoodle and chocolate chip. And they do it well. My personal fav is the mint chocolate chip. It is a chocolate based dough with a goodly amount of chip and mint. A warm and refreshing cookie for that afternoon work day break. Want to spice it up? Make it an ice cream sandwich with their decent selection of hand dipped ice cream. And get some cookies to take home. While they're a little pricey, no one will complain.

I don't play with donuts. I'm a donut-eating fool. Donuts are my thing. I have glaze running through my bloodstream. I've never eaten better donuts than the ones I got from Concannon's in Muncie. In fact, I'm planning another trip to Muncie JUST to visit Concannon's and get some donuts. What's a two-hour round-trip drive when you can be rewarded with amazing donuts during your journey? I visited Concannon's by myself, and although I wanted one of each of the donuts they had in the bakery case, I limited myself to three donuts: a glazed pretzel-shaped yeasted donut, a blueberry cake donut and an old fashioned donut. My go-to at any donut shop is usually a glazed twist, but they don't have glazed twists here! Instead, they have a glazed pretzel-shaped donut, which turned out to have all of the elements of a glazed twist, but it was just bigger and more twisty. It was amazing, pillowy, slightly sweet and even more delicious when you pull it apart with your fingers and eat it bit by bit. The blueberry cake and old-fashioned donuts were my favorites, though. These melted in my mouth, especially the old-fashioned. It was so tender and fresh. The old-fashioned is one of those kinds of donuts that I wish I enjoyed with some coffee, but instead, I ate it solo while dancing around delightedly in my hotel room. Concannon's has lots of other sweets, desserts and baked goods, like cakes (including mini cakes and individual cake slices), cookies, whoopie pies, chocolates, popcorn, candies and all sorts of other goodies. There is also a cafe with coffee and other beverages available. This is a must-visit if, like me, you love donuts, but also a must-visit in general because it's such a Muncie institution.
