We recently tried this restaurant for the first time which is a newer establishment to the area. I wanted to give it a while to settle in and work out the kinks that new restaurants always have to work through before trying it. The Ambiance of the restaurant is nice, upscale & decorated in the theme of Dia de Los Muertos (day of the dead.) We did not make a reservation and waited for a table for about 30 minutes. We started with Margaritas that were tasty & not overly sweet which we enjoyed, and a chips & salsa flight that came out in a timely manner *all three salsas & chips were bland. For the main course, we both ordered Mesa Plato's, one with steak & the other carnitas, both were served with what appeared to be black beans & rice combined (very unappealing looking, and NO flavor.) ALL of the food we ordered with the exception of dessert & drinks, were what I would describe as extremely bland and not very flavorful, which surprised me as Latin food is known for its flavor. Service was fine. The tab for two after all was said and done came close to $120.00 w/o tip, so perhaps not the least expensive place to eat for a non-flavorful meal. Went on their third day opened and I'm definitely coming back! Had great tapas, the shrimp tacos are fantastic as well as the carne asada ones and the Calmante drink was one of the best I've had! If you like spicy hot food this is your place . Everything is spicy including beans and guacamole . Stay away if you have very mild palate .

My husband and stopped by for lunch. The restaurant is attractive inside. We were seated right away but took awhile for our waitress to arrive. We ordered the corn burrata with these "special" chips they talk about in the menu. The burrata was delicious but the chips were nasty. Thick, slightly chewy and difficult to bite through with absolutely no flavor. We order the pizza like item with carnitas. The crust was made from those chip things. The topping on the "pizza" were terrible. Not much flavor just bitterness and that crust was awful. We were so disappointed. Also the prices on the menu are different than what they actually charge you. Not a big deal but we only ordered 4 items and 2 were a dollar or 2 more than advertised. We didn't have an menu item changes either to explain the price difference. The side items are crazy expensive. A cup of buttered hominy $6. Hominy is so cheap. Service was great, nice environment, but $14 for two barbie tacos is crazy. Your birria dip shouldnt outlast your tacos. Charging for chips and salsa is also unheard of in this area. This place would be better suited for downtown denver with their tiny portion to cost ratio. read more

We visited Mesa on March 9; we had a reservation and were seated promptly, and that's where the promptness ended. Our cocktails took forever to arrive and were plopped down on top of a menu. The starter took a long time because our server forgot to order it or left in the kitchen too long. The Papas Bravas were extremely oily, salty, and did not have enough of the sauce. we ordered two taco selections, Birria Quesotacos, which was greasy and underwhelming, and the Carnitas, just OK. The cocktails were decent when they arrived. Our server, while pleasant and smiley, was very inefficient (not clearing plates, etc,), but the mood among the servers et al was not happy. Except for our server, I saw few happy faces. The ambience was nice. We won't go back; the service was not good, the food was lacking, and the atmosphere was not one of a happy, cheerful restaurant where people go to have a good time. I contacted the restaurant under the 'Contact Us' button and have heard nothing, which is not a good sign. read more

We were very curious and gave it a try. On a Valentine's Day evening it was pretty quiet, although they said we would have to wait 30 minutes for a table. We decided to sit in the bar. The food is very average and lacking flavor. The chips are Tostitos heated under a heat lamp. It took 25 minutes to get simple tacos. The bill was $80 for chips and salsa, three Mexican cokes and 6 tacos. We won't be going back. read more

The restaurant is nice inside but seemed more like a bar. Too loud inside. My family wanted a nice meal for the price, but couldn't even have a conversation. The food was average at best and over priced. You have to pay extra for everything. I had to pay extra for chips and salsa. Then again for 2 small tortilla with my posole. read more

my husband and I tried Mesa kitchen for the first time. The food was excellent, everything tasted fresh and authentic. The ambience is very nice and the service was great. We had reservations for Saturday night. It was busy so I took that as a good sign. The hostess was lovely, our waitress with the nose ring was awful. She could not have scowled more if she tried. Very short with us. It took over an hour to receive our dinner, water was not filled, our drinks were lost in limbo...but when I actually received my dinner it was really good. Because of the delay, the manager comped our food, which we appreciated. I may consider going back once the kinks are worked out, but will not be seated in that waitresses' section again. Everyone has a bad day but after reading other reviews this was not her first time. Will not be returning anytime soon. read more

This was our first time at Mesa and we were not disappointed! 2 adults and 2 kids in our party including one very picky eater. We got the salsa flight and 3 of us enjoyed all the salsas, the picky eater enjoyed the chips haha. I got the Pollo Pastor Tlayudas (Mexican Pizza) it was so delicious. One of my kiddos had the carne asada tacos and devoured them, my picky eater got the quesadillas and cilantro lime rice on the kids menu and loved them, almost cleaned the plate. We finished with the Churros which, were just fantastic and came with 2 dipping sauces. I highly recommend this place it's a great atmosphere with a fresh take on some classic dishes. You will pay a little extra, but I felt it was all worth it. The portions were thoughtful and not overdone, so we didn't come home with the normal 2-3 boxes of leftovers. The service was very fast and we never once were waiting around for refills, food or any service. Very excited to have a spot like this in a neighborhood full of chilis and Red Robin's. read more

the Burria tacos were okay but needed something like lettuce or cabbage and/or sour cream, beans and rice were extra. Guacamole wasn't great just ok. Churros were too greasy. its ok to serve smaller portions but food should have layers of flavors, no layers here. read more

I've gone 3 times and loved it every time. The servers are friendly and helpful and the food is delicious. The drinks do take a little while to come out but they're very good! I have mixed reviews on this one. The inside is nice, open & spacious. The Peruvian Brick Chicken was delicious & the aji Amarillo sauce could've been devoted by itself! The paprika roasted potatoes that comes with the chicken was good but badly in need of some salt & evens batter rubbed with some garlic. So good.......but could've been far better. The Birria queso tacos....where do I begin???? The worst we have EVER had! Birria tacos are our favorite so the thought of having these 7 min away was exciting BUT Nao flavor!!!! So bland......so so bland. The boy flavor they had was like cinnamon. The cheese should've covered the entire taco shell but was coldly piled in the bottom of the taco shell. My husband struggled finishing them.lol despite thinking this would be the highlight of the meal. Back to the good. The waitress was awesome, knowledgeable & around if needed. There was a wine tasting by one of their winery options so I scored a free wine tasting which was so GOOD!!!! In short...they need to work on their flavors. Also...... $14 for for only 2 TINY flavorless tacos.... Sorry, no. Too much money, left hungry, no flavor. The brick chicken though....highly recommend! read more

Just a little common sense would have gone a long way to create a consistent customer. Ordered the Mesa Tacos and requested lettuce wrap instead of the tortillas. Was told no, that if I wanted lettuce, I'd have to order a salad. The waiter was so embarrassed, very apologetic and was put into a difficult position by the manager. Needless to say, this decision as well as the manager to not be brave enough to come over and have a civil discussion will keep us away from this establishment. read more

We thought the atmosphere was really nice and the service was good, but the food was just ok. It was a bummer to have to pay for chips and salsa. It's always a plus when you they bring you complimentary chips and salsa or bread while you're waiting for the food. I also did not like the fact that you cannot mix and match the tacos. I wanted to try the carne asada and the grilled chicken lime. Rice and beans are also not included. Kind of a let down. I guess if you are looking for facier Mexican/Latin this is a place to go. I have lived in this area for 40 years. I have watched the restaurants that have been in the same location prior. Macaroni Grille and Oreganos were the last 2 I remember. Both restaurants closed and makes the selection of places to dine reduced again. We tried Mesa on 11/7/23 and I waivered on sending in a review or just being in the silent majority and not return. The service was slow, the food was slow, the wine delivery was slow and the waitress was non existent when there was problem how she handled the bill between a gift card and a debit card for the remaining balance. We sat there waiting for her to return numerous times to try to correct the problem for an additional 20 minutes. I finally gave up and when getting up to leave, the GM showed up and although was nice, failed to remedy the problem. I foresee this restaurant going down the path of their predecessors unless they turn thing around. BTW, the food was mediocre at best and over priced for what we ate. I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more
