Over the last year we've been to this establishment about 5 times. I wish I could say that every time was amazing, but sadly I cannot. I feel like whenever my girlfriend and I go by ourselves it tastes fantastic but literally every time we bring other people to share this place they fail miserably. I want to share the pros and the cons of this place. PROS The cochinita is amazing. It's flavors remind you of homemade goodness (when cooked right, because I've also had it when it was really dry). Their brunch menu is pretty cool and their Tres Leches is out of this world! CONS Mesa is extremely inconsistent. When we love it, we LOVE IT but when the food is less than mediocre it's just not worth it. For those who are looking for good service, you probably won't find it here. The waiters are often new and unexperienced and have a tendency to forget your table, however the management is really nice and very customer service oriented. Overall, this place is a gamble. You can either have a good time and experience great Mexican cuisine or you can have a bad time with less than mediocre results. I would say give it a shot, who knows you might have a good experience! read more

Being from San Antonio, you know I'm going to judge with a heavy set of standards. Wasn't quite sure what to expect, but since I'm moving to down the street I had to give it a test drive. The lunch crowd was pretty much gone. The chips and hot sauce were fresh and home made. Served warm, the salsa was pretty close to perfect. Not so spicy that it leaves an after taste like a lot of other restaurants. Went with the tacos al carbon, which comes with rice and refried beans. Beans can make or break a meal in my book and they passed with flying colors. The only minus was they needed salt - usually I don't use much salt on my food but once I added it, they were superb! The carne tacos were well seasoned as well, with grilled onions and peppers nice and caramelized. Overall a really fantastic lunch - I was very surprised. In the past we've enjoyed meals here but today we stopped in for lunch and our order was wrong and the food was cold and not fresh tasting.

Unfortunately I was by myself when I had lunch here. I wish I could have shared my experience with my wife. We are staying at the Vineyard RV resort and pass this place each time we go to the park. I stopped in and was greeted and seated right away. I tried the tacos and split it between the Red fish and the brisket. It is hard to find a good fish taco in Dallas but the Red Fish was excellent. It was better than the brisket, which was a bit flavor flat. The place is clean and the service was great. I would go back for sure! read more

Went here for Valentines day and I have to say I was a bit surprised with the understaffed scene in respect to a "holiday". It wasn't even that busy and yet service was just so slow, with one bar tender and having to wait for a table (which many were available but "reserved"). It was overall kind of strange. It's a beautiful little spot with a great outdoor area. Everyone was friendly, and I did enjoy my meal and drinks. So, that's where the 4 star comes in, I do hope next time I don't have to wait almost 15 min from waiting to be acknowledge while sitting at a not to busy, to receiving my drink order, because it's a cute spot to hang out and I'd be willing to give it another try. read more

We went for dinner last night, based on the reviews we saw on this site. We were very pleasantly surprised! The MOLE Enchiladas were TERRIFIC! The Spicy Margarita was great--my wife "didn't like it".....enough to order a 2nd one!!!! She had the Red Snapper Tacos, and they were really good. The Queso Fundido w/ Chorizo was also excellent. Food was ok nothing special, not typically what you would expect. Service very, very, slow, seemed understaffed for a Friday night. No refills from bar etc. we happened to sit on the "Air conditioned" patio it was hot and there was a singer who was so loud we could not even hear the conversations at our table. Multiple request to turn it down and nothing. For a $150 tab for 4 I expect more, keep in mind we all Only had one drink bc they never came back so we could order more. If you are thinking about enjoying a great experience at Mesa Restaurant let me tell you DONT GO ! Go to 7-11 and get a bag of Doritos and some Pace Salsa and you are off to a better start than the chips and salsa that are served at MESA. The Con Queso was so bad that we sent it back! It's Velveeta ( and not the jalapeño kind) it's microwaved and so thick with some of the tomato paste ( their salsa ) dolloped in and so thick it wouldn't come off the spoon. $27 for two frozen seafood enchiladas with absolutely no side of either rice and beans... really rice and beans cost nothing to serve. Good Mexican/TEXMEX food is not pretentious but this place thinks it's the cutting edge ! I disagree........it will be closed in less than 6 months ITS THAT BAD ! read more

Coming in from Houston we were shocked to find this place. The waiter MASON was awesome very attentive had everyone's cups filled at all times (party of 13) which is always something I notice. The brisket torta was beyond what I expected came with waffle fries (yum) the avacado sauce blended well with the French bread, was slightly toasted. The salsa and chIps were good. Quesadilla plate was huge and definitely shareable. Everything for the most part was good. Service was great thanks to Mason. Will definitely be coming back !!! read more

Awesome new location!!!! Huge covered patio that's perfect for lake season. Food is actually probably better than the Dallas location! In my top 10 favorite places to eat for sure in Dallas. Food is extremely average. Got the tacos al carbon and the meet was covered in mystery liquid and dripping out of the taco. The tortilla seemed liked it was Mission brand and just thrown in the microwave for a couple of seconds. And they had shredded cheese on them?? Not how you make tacos al carbon. The salsa is sweet and not good. Decently nice waiter so hate ragging on the restaurant but man their food was not good. read more

I was a bit skeptical at first. It looks like a generic Tex-Mex restaurant from outside. It's in Grapevine. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The chips were warm and crunchy. Salsa had a really good flavor, but not at all spicy. We ordered the Roberto queso, which I recommend. I'm pretty picky about queso and this one made the cut. All the extras (guacamole/ground beef/sour cream) definitely add flavor. I ordered a single beef crispy taco. Nothing overly special, but it didn't get soggy right away, which was a definite plus. The beef fajita nachos were good. Two had already been removed from my plate when I took the pic. It comes with jalapeños, sour cream, guacamole & pico. I played it safe as I didn't want to try something and not like it and have wasted money. The fajita meat was flavourful and very tender! My boyfriend had the carne asada; ordered it cooked medium. It was delicious and perfectly tender. We rarely order dessert, but decided to splurge. He had the flan. I had the tres leches cake. Flan was good but had a strong coffee aftertaste. The tres leches cake was huge and we ended up deciding that the sauce drizzle had a Kaluah flavor. It was a little drier than I like for tres leches, but it was good. I'd order it again! Overall, we gave it 4 only because they were serving a limited menu. Granted, capacity was at about 25% as the state begins to re-open. Would have liked to try the salmon and crab based on some of photos I saw in other reviews. I'd definitely go back and give a few more dishes a try. read more

Eh, just not that impressed with the food or prices. However the restaurant is very pretty. Kudos to the design team as it's elegant and majestic. We stopped in at 5 when they opened on a recent Saturday, and were immediately seated. I had a hibiscus margarita which was really good, but ordered the house frozen next and it was way too sweet. I couldn't even finish it, yeah it was that sweet! I ordered the beef fajitas and was very disappointed. The tortillas tasted like mission brand, not homemade as they claimed, the meat had little flavor and only had 5 slices. The black beans were good but the rice was plain, steamed white rice? Really? $20? The salsa and chips were good, so there's that. My husband had a seafood dish, and he said that was very good yet small for the price. All in all for the price of the drinks and food we'll take our business back to Cristinas. It's just not that good, and I hate giving negative reviews :-( Always an honest review though...of that I guarantee! read more

I read the bad reviews and I am perplexed?! First of all this is not a tex mex restaurant so don't review it based on your limited knowledge of Mexican cuisine as there are many different regional styles of cooking. The cuisine here is Veracruz style. The chips and salsa are yummy. Chips were not greasy. I ordered the Mole Mama Cata which was delish! Hubby ordered fish tacos and he enjoyed them. Loved the tres leches cake. They serve you a Mexican cocktail in a shot glass at the end of the meal that's on the house. It's called El Torito made of rum, milk and peanut butter! Taste like dessert...yummy!! Service was excellent! We never ran out of chips, salsa or water. I was nursing my baby when our food came out and the server opened up my napkin and placed my utensils on my plate for me! WOW!! Will def be back to try other dishes! Since I live right down the street and pass this place everyday, I figured I would give it a try. Our waiter was very good - attentive, friendly, and helpful with the menu! They brought Chips and Salsa out right away, and gosh, their chips are wonderful! Not the normal chips you expect at a restaurant. We also decided to get the Queso, and it took a few minutes to make since they make it fresh everyday. It was different than the queso I'm used to - it was baked in the oven! It was very thick, and had a lot of flavor to it. Good choice! After we ordered our main dish, the food came out very quick, warm, and flavorful! This might sound weird, but I loved their rice! I have never actually taken rice home before, but this rice was so good, I even took the extra home with me :) Overall, good food, good atmosphere, and good service. Disappointed. Ok, so... I really, really wanted to like this place, and giving them three stars was a bit of a stretch for me. I would have given them one star due a couple of blatant sanitation issues, but since they are still brand new, I thought I would be fair and give them an opportunity to fix these issues (SEE MY COMMENTS BELOW). Living nearby, I've driven past this place many times during the (seemingly) long period of construction, (maybe I was just overly anxious for something new to open in the area) so today I decided to give it a try. We arrived at 11:30, and there was only one other party (of three) seated. The decor and color scheme was odd, and if I had been brought there blindfolded, I would never have guessed what type of cuisine I was about to order. Normally, I would not mention a restaurant's decor, but for the prices they were charging for lunch, I would at least expect it to be somewhere I would want to hang out and enjoy the vibe. We were quickly greeted by our server Luis, and he set down a very small plate of chips and salsa. Growing up in Southern California (and being an admitted food snob) I am quite picky about chips & salsa. I believe it's the benchmark of any reputable Mexican restaurant, and it's usually a pretty accurate barometer of the ensuing meal. The salsa was good... no complaints. It was obviously freshly made and had good flavor, but the chips... not so much. They were clunky, unsalted, and greasy... very greasy. We were hungry, so we ate them anyway. We finished the petite plate of chips and salsa quickly and was offered more by Luis, but they never made it out. I would have gladly reminded him, but I never saw him again until our food arrived, which I thought was strange since there was hardly anybody there. I ordered the shrimp tacos and my girlfriend ordered the chicken chili relleno. When the food arrived, the plates looked nice and they both seemed to be a decent sized portion. There were three tacos on my plate with a side of beans and rice. The tacos looked looked great and had a good amount of shrimp. They were garnished with shredded cabbage, mango (maybe papaya), and drizzled with a spicy looking sour cream sauce. I was excited to try them, and they certain passed the visual test. But when I took a bite, I was thoroughly disappointed. There was absolutely no flavor to speak of. I could tell the shrimp were fresh and they tasted clean, but they needed salt... desperately. I don't need a ton of salt on my food, but I do need my food to be seasoned properly, and this was not. The homemade tortillas were very bland and very greasy, like they were cooked in lukewarm oil. There was no fresh masa flavor to speak of, and they were just blah. The spicy looking sauce had no flavor either, and I sat there wondering if the chef actually tasted the food they were sending out. Maybe they had an aversion to salt or something, I don't know. The beans were ok, a little soupy maybe, and they were also greasy, which started to seem like their trademark at this point. The rice was visually appealing, but when I took a bite, all I could taste was bacon. Not that bacon is a bad thing, but it seemed to overwhelm the whole dish and just didn't seem to work for me. I tried my girlfriend's chicken chili relleno, and it was ok... nothing special. The chicken they used was almost certainly left over from the day before, and tasted like store-bought rotisserie chicken. I tasted the jasmine rice on her plate, and it was good and cooked perfectly, but more grease... Damn the grease!! All in all, it wasn't the worst experience in the world, and almost seemed as if the dishes were created by a reputable chef who may have taken the day off and entrusted his (or her) creations to a line cook or something. Hopefully that's the case and they wouldn't ordinarily let greasy, under-seasoned food to make it out to their customers. *Note about sanitation: First of all, I noticed that every table had been set, and had all of the drinking glasses placed upside down on the tables. The tables are non-varnished, semi-porous wood which cannot possibly be sanitized properly. I know it's common practice in the restaurant industry to put glasses down in such a manner, as well as setting cutlery directly on the table instead of using a napkin, but its not a good practice and can get people sick. I always request a new glass and/or silverware if I encounter this... and so should you! I noticed the bartender helping out with the table-setting. He was carrying stacks of plates in each hand with his thumbs pressing down on the top of them. This is a big no-no! I watched him do this several times. It wouldn't be such a big deal if I hadn't witnessed him wiping tables and moving chairs around in between. I hope the owner reads this feedback and makes the appropriate corrections. I wish them well, but I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. read more

It was mine and my husband's first time here. From the time we walked in to the time we left, customer service was outstanding! We decided to sit at the bar and eat where we met our bartender, Falk. The chips and salsa were great! Our dinner was amazing, I had never tried Mole sauce as good as that. Mesa is a solid restaurant, but not exceptional. We had a reservation, but still had to wait about 10 minutes for them to get a table ready. When we were finally seated, we were greeted fairly quickly by the waiter who was friendly. I had literally just sat down when he asked what I wanted to drink and I hadn't even had an opportunity to look at the drink menu so I ordered iced tea. One person in our party ordered a Tecate beer and the waiter asked what is that? Needless to say we were a little surprised. Even though they did not have Tecate on the menu somebody who works for a Mexican restaurant still should know what a generally widely available Mexican beer is. So, others in our party ordered a corona and a house margarita. The portion sizes are very generous and the food was served hot. We did like that the black beans and rice were flavorful and our waiter checked in quite frequently to make sure we didn't need anything. Overall, this is a large restaurant with friendly service, good potion sizes, and good salsa. The food was good but it's not Mexican food I would go out of my way for. read more

I had called ahead to forewarn that I have a service animal and the hostess I spoke to didn't just smile and nod when we arrived but re-introduced herself and shook my hand! It was very professional and yet her smile made me and my friend feel so very welcome and comfortable!! Such a wonderful first impression...which only got better! The open patio is beautiful, our server was gracious and personable with perfect timing, and the food...DELICIOUS! We shared the combo fajitas. I like my onions a bit more sautéed but still super yummy and the peppers weren't soggy like most places. Our experience was so friendly that we mistook our food server for our waitress!
