Been going to Esparzas since 1993. Have eaten in the restaurant at least 1-3 times a month since then and order food for pick up multiple times in the last 5 years. Today's pickup was more than disappointing. Front desk girl actively looked to see if I tipped when signing the receipt for food I drove to the restaurant and picked up myself then scoffed when I didn't tip. I don't tip for pickup because you aren't actually providing me with any service. We tip 30-35 % when dining in if the service is good and never less than 20% even when the service is bad. Ordered 2 orders of queso flameado, Senora dinner and 2 cheese enchiladas with double ride along with big bowl of queso and guacamole and came home to see no tortillas for the queso flameado and a tiny paper lunch sack of chips even though I ordered a large queso and guacamole. Esparza's-- This place is amazing!! The decor is great, perfect Mexican Catina vibe! We got the Queso Royale--a must! A huge bowl of queso with ground beef, guac & pico surrounded by warm tortilla chips. Devine! The salsa is a served warm, which I love! It also had nice spice to it. I got the veggie fajitas and added a chicken breast. It. Was. Perfect. Loads of veggies- shrooms, red/green bells, zucchini, yellow squash, & onions. The chicken was grilled perfectly as well! So yummy! I had their house margarita and it topped it off...chefs kiss! Chuy was our waiter and he was fantastic! Great attitude, lots of fun and very attentive! We ended up at Esparza's after Main Street Bread/Bistro turned out to be completely packed--full patio, line out the door, and a growing crowd behind us. Downtown Grapevine was adorable but way busier than we expected, and we weren't in the mood to wait an hour for brunch. Enter Esparza's, which we spotted just down the street. We walked right in and were seated immediately--a blessing given the Main Street chaos. They were busy, but not uncomfortably packed, and the vibe was friendly and relaxed. They're supposedly known for their margaritas, so of course I tried one - house marg in the rocks with a salt rim. It was good--solid, balanced, enjoyable--but I'm not sure I'd call it "famous." Still worth ordering. Food-wise, we were pleasantly surprised. We came in expecting tourist-trap, bland Tex-Mex. But everything was actually flavorful and better than expected. Lorenzo's Mexican Dinner (tamales + enchilada, rice & beans) was supposed to come covered in chile con carne, but he swapped that for green sauce. I stole a bite of the tamale--honestly pretty darn good, but would have been better with no sauce at all. I had a lunch special (tortilla soup + chicken soft taco). Perfect portion, really tasty. One kid got a taco plate, the other got chicken nuggets and fries (because kids). Both ate happily, but the taco plate was the clear winner. Was it life-changing Mexican food? The food was subpar. My chicken fajitas were steamed or sauted, they were not grilled. The bell peppers and onions were almost raw. On the condiments tray I had about 2.5 tablespoons of refried beans. No cheese. The salsa was closer to spicy ketchup. Someone in the kitchen does not like cilantro. The prices were unnecessarily expensive for the low quality. I have been eating at Esparzas since 1999. We were very disappointed in the low quality of the food. We will not be back. It was a severe departure from the high quality standards of their past. My only thought is they are primarily serving tourists, thus the lack flavor and quality. It was a sad visit. I have to judge this by food quality only since it was takeout. But the entire takeout process was excellent. We had even left a critical bit of information off of one item, the fried avocado, so they waited for us to arrive to finish rather than get it wrong. Speaking of the fried avocado, it was wonderful. In fact every item we ordered was very good. Servings were excellent in size. I thought their salsa was particularly good for a restaurant, which is probably why hey sell it by the jar. They rave about their margaritas, but I found the ones we ordered to be pretty ordinary and not better than any other restaurant. Fantastic Experience for a Large Family Gathering! We originally had a reservation for about 65 people at another restaurant in Grapevine, but they unexpectedly closed a few weeks before our event. Scrambling to find another spot, we reached out to Esparza's Restaurante Mexicano. Even though they don't typically take reservations, their team was incredibly kind and encouraged us to come at our desired time and they would do their best to accommodate us. We showed up at 5:00 PM on a Saturday evening with our large group, and with only a short wait, they managed to seat all of us together in a side room near the front--what a gift! The service was truly top-notch. The staff was attentive, friendly, and handled our large group with ease and professionalism. By the time we left at 7:00 PM, we were all full, happy, and so thankful we chose Esparza's for our family reunion meal. You know how family gatherings can be--lots of people, lots of moving parts--but everything went smoothly, and the atmosphere made our time together even more special. Perfect day for an outside patio and Esparza's has a nice one! Sunny, 70 degrees Fahrenheit, with a cool light breeze. Birds singing, blue sky, perfect day for some Mexican food on the patio. I ordered the Number 5 Lunch Special, which came with a Soft Cheese Taco, an Enchilada, and a Crispy Beef Taco for 10.99. When the runner brought my food, they only brought one of our plates of food, and so I waited while my lunch mate finished their food, then finally mine came. I visited Grapevine to check out the local boutiques and the farmers market on a Saturday. While at the farmers market, I asked around to the locals where I should go to lunch, and 2 different people suggested Esparza's. It was right around the corner from the farmers' market. Esparza's had plenty of parking and was seated right away. The service was good and took our order promptly. I ordered the mixed frozen sangria and frozen margarita. It was so delicious. It had great lime flavor and was refreshing on a hot day. I also ordered the quesadillas off the appetizer section. The quesadillas were stuffed with meat and veggies. They were filling and a good choice for an entrée or to split with someone. The inside of the restaurant was cozy and had a great Tex-Mex vibe. read more

This place has to be surviving on location alone (which is great), everything else here ranged from horrible to middling at best. For starters, (and by far the most unforgivable sin, especially around here), this was the worst margarita I have ever had. I ordered a house rocks margarita and the sour mix tasted like it was either not being refrigerated or it had been in the fridge way too long. Either way it was somewhere between not fresh and rancid, and I couldn't get past the second sip. The salsa tasted like it came out of a jar, the chips were stale, and both my grandmothe'rs fajita nachos and my breakfast quesadilla had poor quality cheese that was unappetizing. Also, the tortilla soup tasted processed and the eggs tasted like they were cooked in a dirty kitchen. Overall, this place has been open for over 40 years, but without being the only Mexican restaurant on main street I doubt they would still be in business. Save yourself the bad experience and go down the street to Baja, you wont regret it. read more

Posting for awareness. While dining here, there was a bug trap behind the bar that was completely full of dead insects and clearly visible from customer seating. It was directly in my line of sight while eating, which was extremely off-putting. I understand restaurants need pest control, but a visibly full trap in plain view of diners--near drinks and bar service--is not appropriate. It ruined my appetite. I did speak with the manager, who was polite and removed the charge for the meal, which I appreciated. As far as what I ordered, I ordered two cheese enchiladas but they came out with globs of cheese on top of them and the beans. I couldn't eat it. Especially after seeing all the bugs in the catcher. The manager and bartender were polite. I just hope they take the bug trap out or hide it from view. The location and building have the potential to be a great restaurant. They only had a limited holiday menu however and not many vegetarian options that are normally on Mexican menus. Prices seemed high to me as well. read more

We were brought here by a coworker friend. The food was excellent! We started with the queso flameado. It was the best we've ever had!! The cheese wasn't as greasy as flameado usually is and it was packed with perfectly cooked onions and beef. So so good!! I had the combo of brisket stuffed fried avocado with chicken tortilla soup. Wow, the brisket is tender with a great spice. The avocado was perfectly fried. My husband loved his brisket quesadillas. We've had some in San Antonio but he said these beat those by a long shot. I came here with a large group and they were able to seat us instantly and brought out our food quickly after ordering. Our service was attentive and consistently checked to make sure our drinks and chip baskets were full. The majority of the table ordered enchiladas and they all agreed that they were excellent. However, the eggs in the migas were cold, which is the reason for 4 stars. What a quaint place. The food was good. We saw a variety of drinks so I presume the bar was good. Service was better than average so vey happy with that. My only issue was how absolutely loud it was. I suspect it was about 100-120 decibels, maybe more. It's a huge open room with no noise abatement. And on this Saturday evening, every table was occupied. He was prompt with the drinks , and orders and brought things without us asking . We shared an order of fajitas which were yummy, but a too heavy on the onions . The regular Salsa was ok but weak , however their spicy salsa is a green salsa had a nice thick texture and it was great . Spicy enough to have the kick . Oh how the ripples of one mistake completely changes your perspective... Tuesday night, we drove over to Blue Goose for dinner. We arrived, and there was signage up saying they were closed due to remodeling (though I don't recall any prior notice on social media or their site which is odd). I was told "Hey why not try out Esparza's, my friend has been going there most of her life". At this point, I just want Mexican food NOW. We pulled up, and I had a transformational change in expectations. Mind you, I'm half-Hispanic, lived in DFW for the vast majority of my life I've had probably every Mexican franchise or independent (Like the most praised, and underwhelming Joe T. Garcias). Esparza's is a rare gem. The queso is fantastic. If you get the fajitas, they taste like they were cooked on a wood fire grill. Even items like Puffy Tacos transported me back to a simpler time when I would have Puffy Tacos at the now closed Caro's off of Blue Bonnet in Fort Worth. None of the pompousness of Joe T's. No 2 item menu. The staff is incredibly warm and friendly. I write this as someone who's had all kinds of Mexican food. Whether it be in Mexico, or LA, NYC, Nashville, and DFW. For me, this my new consistently going to Mexican spot. If you want proof? I found this place on Tuesday, and I am sitting here picking up a Togo order on Sunday. We've done 4 visits in total in less than a week. One more thing worth mentioning? I hate refried beans. Absolutely hate them. I think I'd rather be waterboarded than have refried beans. The double refried beans from Esparza's is a revelation. I LOVE them. You can ask my spouse how many times I've eaten wings in our relationship, and if I eat them the way I do here. It's that legit. I just don't eat refried beans. These double fried refried beans make me feel like I can walk on water, raise the dead to life, and feed 5k people with a simple fish and a loaf of bread. read more

We had dinner on Saturday evening and surprisingly we're sat immediately inside. Our server was wonderful and answered all of our questions. It was extremely loud inside, so I would not recommend sitting inside if you are hard of hearing. We were practically yelling to hear each other. I had the stuff, avocado and tortilla soup. I've had this before, so super excited but I was very disappointed when it came out. The soup was lukewarm, and the cheese and the avocado wasn't even slightly melted. I also had a Esparza margarita. It was ok, extremely strong. There are so many Mexican restaurants in Fort Worth and Grapevine that next time we may stop here for a drink, but we will definitely go somewhere else to eat. read more

My parents love this place especially because they have beans made with vegetable oil They had make your own tacos which I thought my 7 year old would love. He enjoyed making his own tacos for sure. I got one of the mix meals - one chicken enchilada and one taco with rice and beans. It was the perfect amount of food and absolutely delicious. Service was fantastic too. Consider reading my last review from a year ago, I can happily report not much has changed, it's all still very good! Esparza's should receive a five star review, if only because they're Grapevine icon. The atmosphere is old and new style Mexican, with Hispanic music playing on the background. Originally it was a house (converted into a restaurant) which they added on to (in the back), so you have the old house with the new addition on the back. Additionally, there is outside dining with heater for winter and fans with mist for summer. The bar is a local watering hole and typically quite busy every night. Note: they do not take reservation for the restaurant. The service is a bit laid-back, but okay. It's Tex-Mex food, with all the usual dishes. Endless free chips and salsa. Great guacamole! We love the Mexican Pizza. The value for what you get is line with the price you pay, everything is really good. If you're in Grapevine, and you're in the mood for really good down to earth Tex-Mex, food and atmosphere this is a place to go! read more
