So, I got arrested in 2018 for a DUI. I was arrested in Mesa and the police officers were all super nice to me. They went above & beyond to be nice to me that night & I really wish I'd gotten their names because I would've sent them a thank you later. It has been 8 years since that happened and I am still sober. I think about that night often and the kindness I received especially since I was the one in the wrong & yet they made me feel safe & cared for. The whole dui thing sucked but all in all I had a great experience at the Mesa police department. Try your best not to get arrested but if you must do it in Mesa! & be up front with them. Yesterday we had Mesa Swat on our street at the same house for the 4th time in 5 years. We live in downtown Mesa. Our neighborhood is very quiet with the exception of this one house. We have been able to witness first hand how this department operates. They are incredibly patient and professional, taking four hours on one occasion to talk someone out stating that they didn't want to harm the property or the person inside if at all possible. read more

If I could give a zero I would. In July of 2024 they found my deceased son behind a strip mall. My daughter arrived at the scene and asked to take his suitcase and belongings, he was just released from a recovery program two days before. They refused her request stating they would take them to evidence. Three weeks later I called evidence to see when things would be released, they denied having his things at all. I called Mesa Police and was told they didn't know where his things were, nothing was brought in from the scene. Weeks later I was told they apologized but they left his stuff at the scene by mistake. In his things were every last things he owned, jewelry, clothes, medications, his Bible, his photos and a black sachel full of psych medications, suboxone, and prescribed substance, that they said they left at the scene. ​The medical examiners office took photos of all of those things including the medications, but the Mesa Police denied seeing the sachel of meds. I requested the report 3 times after they closed his case to accidental fentanyl poisoning, it was never sent to me. I made a formal complaint to Internal Affairs, they took four weeks and wrote me saying only, "their officers acted accordingly", they closed the investigation. To them my son was a waste of time, he was an addict, another body to collect, more paperwork. Why ? Because it was not one of their children. Shame on all of you that overlooked the last memories we would have had of my son, shame on you for not investigating the cameras at the store that viewd who gave him the drugs and shame on you for the devastating treatment we recieved. read more

I was awakened at 3:50 AM the morning of June 17 by a Mesa Police Dept officer aiming a very large and bright flashlight in my face informing me they found my stolen vehicle. My car was stolen on Feb 12, 2025. I checked my phone after he left and there was a voicemail from an officer saying that if I couldn't go to get the car within the hour (they found it around 2:00 AM) they would send me the tow slip in the mail. What happened to that plan? It really creeped me out and I felt unsafe. There was no need for the officer to come to my house at that hour. I was not comfortable and wouldn't even open my steel security screen door to accept the tow slip he was delivering. I asked him to just drop it on the ground and I went to my front window and waited until he drove away before I went to the front door to get the tow slip. He wasn't even parked in front of my house, which was an option. He was parked across the street in front of the neighbor house two doors away. Why didn't he park directly across from my house, which would have placed the vehicle under the dog waste station where the only light on the street is? I couldn't even tell it was a police vehicle until he turned around at the end of the street and doubled back to drive past my house. I was left feeling the same level of being violated and unsafe as I experienced when my vehicle was stolen because my address was on my registration and insurance documents along with my community gate remote and garage door opener. Giving the officer the benefit of the doubt, maybe he thought he was doing me a favor by providing me with the tow slip so I didn't have to wait for it to come in the mail? I don't know. What I do know is I was left feeling vulnerable and unsafe. read more

I placed a call to the police because my neighbor rear ended my car in front of my condo. A young female and male officer came to my door and as I showed how my neighbor parked, I was accused of backing into him. They also claimed with all the investigative research they conducted (about the same respect they showed me) that the damage was not caused by his vehicle. They went next door and I overheard the officers explaining to him that this was not considered a criminal hit and run. They must have given him their business cards because I received a text from the neighbor telling me not to contact him further. When I responded to the text, the officers came back to my door and told me that if I didn't leave him alone that I could be written up for misdemeanor harassment. These are the facts. I was told I have to take 25 domestic violence classes because "I kept my ex from calling the police in time of emergency" IT WAS MY EMERGENCY. I was the victim in the case and was threatened with 4 YEARS OF JAIL if I don't show up. Not to mention they only give you one option for the classes which amounts to essentially extortion. My elderly mother called for help during a domestic violence incident. They arrived and interrogated her, threatened to arrest her multiple times and did nothing to help with the abuser. She asked about an order of protection and they wouldn't help her. The abuser returned to my moms house and broke the window. My mom kept saying how scared she was and was having a panic attack but didn't want to call again and get "help." The amount of neglect these officers showed is pretty incomprehensible. I called on domestic . And I'm assuming because it was a woman/woman one it wasn't taken seriously. I was physically assaulted by my ex and she took my dog and that's when I called. All that happened is they made sure the ex who assaulted me got home safely. I was victim shamed by these men. My husband and I have been having some minor issues with a next door neighbor (we had no idea until recently that said neighbor is actually a sober living house) and called non emergency on 2 separate occasions that were only 2 days apart. The officer that came out the first day didn't seem to really care, and almost acted as if we were bothering him. Two nights later when we had to call non emergency again, they sent out officer Mills. Mesa PD is lucky to have him! He was friendly with us, he listened, he genuinely cared and truly wanted to help! He's a younger looking officer, said he's been on the force for 6 years, and he CLEARLY loves his job! He's professional, kept his head about him the whole time and even told us what we can do in the future to help/fix the problem. The Mesa Police Department offers a free tour of the Crime Lab every last Thursday of the month. Kim was a fantastic tour guide giving us vast information of each department. The crime lab is broken down into departments from finger print, DNA, bullestics, blood, drugs etc. With each department we arrived at she dove right in with what each area specialized in and really gave a lot of details. This tour was very insightful for my daughter and I as she decides what area of law enforcement she wants to work in. Kim mentioned that they do offer internship. On 11-16-17 at 2:45 am at a stop light my vehicle accidentally ideled into the back of a vehicle in front of me. This was an accident I clearly was at fault and right away I waited for the vehicle occupant to either get out or drive forward and pull over , because we were in middle of an intersection. I assumed they were calling the police right away, thinking I was going to drive off or something. I mean it was 2:45 am and there was very little traffic , so if they thought I was going to hit and run , I would easily be spotted. I waited and waited for the vehicle to make a move , and I wasn't going to get out of my vehicle in the middle of the intersection. With the way arizona drivers drive nowadays at bar exit time I didn't want to get out of my car in the middle of an intersection , And we killed I hear about it all the time on my ABC15 app. I finally turned right and drove down a half mile , which after realized wasn't the best move , but I never showed signs of hitting the gas peddle and fleeing! I stopped after a half mile , turned off and waited for the person to do the same. They didn't and wanted to play the no confrontation or taddle route, which I didn't know at the time. When I got out I think ( but wasnt certain) the other vehicle was at another light. I waited and didnt understand at the time what they were doing. I then drove down the street to find a gas station where i pulled in and wanted to see if the car would stop in as well. Immediately I was aggressively pulled over in a way where I thought I was a fugitive, The aggressive male Officer grabbed me forcefully and unpolitely moved me around in an unnecessary way. He thought that I was trying to flee from them. Long story short five other police cars pulled in and thankfully a mature pleasant polite female officer guided me through what was about to happen in their investigation. Meanwhile this forceful mean male cop grabs things from my car and was trying to build a case when there was no case to be built so rude and so amateur. Anyways there was no damage done from the fender bender earlier but I thought this unnecessary investigation was brought upon me accusing me of things that were not there! Like a piece of plastic wrap from my work was brought out and they wanted to say that it was a bag of drugs, not happening ! Thank you to the female officer for going about her business in a proper manner, Not assuming things right off the bat I hate when people assume things and right away treat you as a criminal just because of the time of day and the incident that occurred! not everybody driving at 2:45 in the morning is under the influence of alcohol or other illegal drugs . Just want to give a big shout out to Lt. Dana McBride and his fellow officers from Mesa PD. I am a housing coordinator for a Mesa company the serves the needs of (SMI) clients. Individuals that have been diagnosed with serious mental illness. One of my female clients stopped taking her medications and became very manic and very verbally and physically assaultive, even coming after me with a steak knife. Long story short. The officers removed my client from her apartment safely, without any harm to her, even though she resisted by bitting, kicking and clawing at the officers. These officers went above and beyond and used a lot of resources to ensure that my client was not injured. I thank the officers from Mesa PD with all my heart. read more

All of the officers that I have met truly care about the community and they risk their lives daily to serve us! This morning, Sunday, November 14, about 10:15am, my husband, myself, and our two grandkids were trying to cross Ellsworth Road to get to the bike path right across the street. I guess we stupidly thought the policeman standing at the entrance to the Sun Valley Church would help stop traffic. He told us to use the crosswalk, which is way down at Ellsworth/Elliott, or Guadalupe/Ellsworth (and then ride the wrong way on the roadway facing traffic). My husband said "I thought you would stop traffic for us", to which the policeman said "it isn't my job"!! He said he could write us a ticket for impeding traffic. Luckily, the considerate people stopped their cars so we could get across the street. We have never seen or heard of such behavior from a policeman. Usually, they would help stop traffic so we could get across with the kids. He is what gives the Mesa Police Department a bad name. Pretty sad. read more

I have always heard that the police will not respond to incidents that happen in parking lots so I hesitated to call. since I didn't know who hit my car, I called Mesa Police Department non emergency and was told they would send someone out as soon as they could. Approximately an hour and a half later (remember this WAS NOT an emergency) they came. I forgot to ask for the officers name but he was very polite, respectful and explained what he could do. Luckily, the person who hit my car had already been found and we exchanged information. But it was nice to be reassured I did the right thing. (I have never had a situation like this before.) Police are always getting a bad rap but people forget their job is tough enough with out the critics. I've never ever had a bad interaction with Mesa PD, ever. I got here in 85, left for few years in the Army then 2 years teaching English in S Korea after getting Bachelors from ASU. Now work as a Healthcare anylst for corporate branch in AZ. I have seen ARMY MPs, Korean Police, DPS, TEMPE, PHOENIX and the the Mesa PD. All of them are equal and all just as professional. If you are respectful and polite police treat you that way. If not then they will not any where in the world. Mesa Police get a bad rap...and good. I have seen bad cops in CA NY and FL. I used to instruct a few in TaeKwonDo. I have had many many good intereactions with the Mesa PD. Very helpful respectful and at times fun.
