I have been at one address since 1980. That has allowed me to have a number Tempe police experiences. I believe I benefitted from each. Each one was of a different nature. My most recent was filing a police report. An officer was called and was 5 star in every manner. To add to my appreciation it was approved in less than expected time. All building staff from entering the building through exiting the building was pleasant and rewarding. It seemed to be that Tempe employees are adequately prepared to deal with the public in a hoped for manner. read more

Officers unwilling to enforce laws, even when notified by the public. Repeated negative interactions with Officer Jeff Gabbie. He is extremely aggressive and pushes back on citizens when they ask him to do his job. Numerous reported issues with no action by the police department. Dispatchers are often rude and dismissive, and responding officers mirror those same behaviors. The department could be much better about proactive law enforcement and chasing the unsheltered drug users out of the public parks and walkways read more

arrested and charged for sexual assault because five years ago, he had a consentual one night stand with a woman who then reported that she had been sexually assaulted to provide herself with an alibi for infidelity. The first incident is with the police reports, where Kale Kauppi and another officer make conflicting statements. One officer claims that they answered the call on 12/03/2017, their partner claims that they answered the call on 12/04/2017. One officer states that my husband's car was in the parking lot when they ran the plates belonging to him, yet another officer stated that he was driving a car, that on 12/03/2017 he would not have in his possession for almost another year. Officer Kale Kauppi claims that a motel folio with my husband's Id tied him to the motel room for the date and time. However, evidence was also obtained that proved that claim to be false. First, a receipt that my husband had, put him checking out of the room on 12/01/2017. My husband's Google maps showed that he left the motel on 12/01/2017. Third, my husband has medical records that show that on 12/03/2017, he was checked into an inpatient facility in Prescott. The copy of his driver's license provided with the motel 6 folio is also missing the word VETERAN printed under the issue date and small photograph. Because his genuine driver's license indicated that he is a Veteran and the copy provided by the Tempe police did not, that proves that the copy of his driver's license was falsified. Also, when my husband was questioned by detective Blake Dunn, first and foremost, my husband has a TBI. A symptom of his TBI is prosopagnosia where he has difficulty identifying his own wife, mother, sister, and even himself in photographs. When detective Dunn questioned him, he genuinely did not recognize the woman in the photograph that Detective Dunn provided. Detective Dunn also falsified his report, deliberately stating that my husband only asked for an attorney after he denied knowing the woman. That is not true at all, as was shown from the footage of Detective Dunn's bodycam. My husband made a request for an attorney immediately after his rights were read. Detective Dunn also continued to engage my husband in questioning after he made the request for council. Tempe Police Department went out of their way to falsify reports and evidence in my husband's case. The evidence when all put together, shows that the accuser had a consentual one night stand with Bryant Toscano , then went home and got into a fight with her boyfriend, then took an Uber back to the motel and reported that she had been assaulted the next day after my husband had already been gone from the motel. I submitted this complaint to internal affairs as well as a complaint that Tempe PD is not in compliance with the Brady list! This is one of MANY complaints that have been or are being submitted in regard to the misconduct involved in this case! A long with a complaint submitted to IG and internal affairs against Tempe PD; are stacks of complaints against the racist prosecutor with half a brain cell, Kaleigh Jenkins, to the professional standards bureau and to the Arizona State Bar. After looking through and comparing every case that she's ever handled, my research proved that she is discriminatory against Hispanic defendants and as such uses that discrimination blatantly in the administration of justice. Why else would cases of the exact same scenario against white defendants be dismissed voluntarily when the accuser's story changes, but when she handles cases against Hispanic defendants, not only will she refuse to voluntarily dismiss cases, but she'll fail to disclose conflicting evidence to grand a grand jury, she'll fight to push it through trial even though she admits that there's reasonable doubt. She also recommends sentences that are much more harsh against Hispanic Defendants, such as 5 years in prison for shoplifting, but shows leniency for Caucasian defendants. Proof of her discriminatory views can also be seen on her husband, Nolan's, social media posts, such as the meme about their family dressing up as immigrants for free trips to Martha's vineyard. I'm never going to quit! Kaleigh Jenkins is more of a danger to the public and to society than the worst criminal that's been through Maricopa County's jails and prisons. read more

Officer Young arrested me in April and impounded my insta360 camera and sd card my motorcycle and took my personal belongings which happened to include removing the padding to my motorcycle jacket and failed to even log it (my padding) into evidence and my padding was lost and I was not able to retrieve it from property not 15 hours later after being released. Months later after case was dismissed and I received my impounded camera but they also lost my sd card that had irreplaceable video of me riding with my friend who passed away in august (time in which camera was still in evidence). After leaving voicemails for over a week to the sergeant above officer young I got a response saying they would look into it. Another week later I got a call saying they were not able to locate the sd card because it was logged as being in the camera that was sent back to me which it was not and that I would have to talk to risk management to be compensated for the value of the sd card only. To hell with the irreplaceable videos and pictures I had on there of my dead friend and I. This police department is a joke and corrupt for tampering with evidence (turning off my electronics that were recording during my arrest) and failing to log evidence. No to mention straight up lied on some of my charges that I disproved before even being taken to the station. Protect and serve my ass. Horrible people read more

I had posted a review and it must have been taken down. We had to call the Tempe police a while ago early in the morning. A person or persons tried to come in our court yard. We notified the police and dispatcher was great. The police officer came to our residence. I was in the courtyard and he made contact with him. We told him what happen he took a look around nothing seem to be missing. Great response and professional dispatcher and police officer. read more

Should you be one of the multitudes that needs to deal with the Tempe Po Po, they have a nice, clean place and I got served promptly and politely by really nice staff that assisted me without any stress. Couldn't be bothered, and lied to drive the point home. I lived Roosevelt Manor on West 5th Street, which went into foreclosure and was sold at auction (without any notice to the residents). We all paid our rents on the first of the month, only to be hit up for rent by the new owners 2 days later. The original owner took all the rent money for himself, rather than transferring it to the new owner. And under Arizona state law, each landlord who delivers the premises must be paid rent. So 40 residents had to pay rent twice for the same month. I called the Tempe police about, sure it must be theft, and was told - "Nah - that's a civil matter; nothing we can do about it." All these years later, I'm reading an article about a crime called LARCENY: Helping oneself to someone else's money by fraudulent means. Anything over $250 is grand larceny, and is a FELONY. So because this cop who answered my phone call couldn't be bothered with what happened at Roosevelt Manor, the original owner - John Peter Kobierowski, of ABI Multi Family/Phoenix, got off scot-free, faced no legal consequences, and is free to rip off the company for which he works, as well as its clientele. He was sued in small claims court by one of his residents, and even though the resident won the judgement, he never saw a dime of that judgement. "Catch Me If You Can" seems to be this person's motto. So, Thanks, Tempe Police - for failing to punish the larcenous JPK, and for allowing him plenty of opportunities to rip off other people. The Tempe Police Department responded FAST to a terrifying home burglary and assault that my boyfriend and I recently experienced. We called 911 and a fleet of cops came knocking on our door in less than two minutes. They were quick to react, immediately advised me to get on my Cerberus tracking app, and stayed with me until the thieves were apprehended. They kept asking me if I was ok and when my adrenaline went down an hour later, they even apologized for the brute and cold way they first spoke to me. (I was like, DUDE you guys are doing your job, I'm not offended that you didn't coddle me, LOL. Apologizing was not necessary at all.) Detective Michelle Reyes was so sweet, extremely professional, and gladly answered all my questions about the case afterward. The police technicians did take a really long time to finish fingerprinting my phone and miscellaneous items (they said it'd take 2-3 days... it ended up taking 17 days lol) but hey, I'm just glad they recovered all my stolen items in the first place. I'm honestly so grateful. Despite the terrifying ordeal, I feel safe knowing that the Tempe Police Department is vigilantly watching over my community. read more

I didn't think it would be possible for me to be any more disappointed in the Tempe police department but alas, after my most recent experience earlier today, it's safe to say I was incredibly naive to believe that. I honestly wished my local police department was capable of winning my support but this was absolutely the last straw. I have lost all faith. How can these people expect my trust when they have done nothing but abuse my good will and waste my precious time and money? This department has seemingly taken a nod from organized crime as they have consistently shown they are more than eager to harass and steal from the very people they are sworn to protect. With that being said I am immensely disappointed with the Tempe Police and am hoping serious changes can be made. Just last Friday night I had an extremely bad encounter at School of Rock I literally ran out of the club begging for police help the police officer drove away then I made a horrible decision to stand in the middle of the road way to get a police officer to stop the next thing I know I'm being slammed to the ground handcuffed and placed in a paddy wagon and sent to jail while in jail I was treated horribly by the detention officers nobody would take my statement or care to listen to what happened to me at the club I then got thrown down to the ground by another woman detention officer after trying to tell her my story I repeatedly begged for somebody to take my statement they treated me as if I was just a drunken crazy person still yet to this day have I got any one to call me back or to do anything about all the bruises all over my body and about how badly I was treated then I got a ticket for obstruction of traffic I was a woman that was sexually attacked at School of Rock ran out of the club to get away from the men begging for please help and this is how was treated still have not been able to make a statement and still waiting to hear from the general manager named Kevin from School of Rock if you are in need of police help I would not count on the Tempe police to be there for you they treat everyone as if they're just a drunk idiot read more

If there were any 'good' cops on this force, they would have mutinied many years ago, and stood with the people police are sworn to serve and protect against a tyrannical government that persistently oppresses them. A 2014 open letter by former ASU mom Julie Harris Wood perhaps sums up the sorry state of Tempe's Police State best: "I am a resident of Virginia. My son attends ASU. On September 5th [2014] the Tempe Police stormed into my son's apartment at University Place. My son was eating a hamburger watching TV and his roommate was asleep. The police came in and accused him of drinking (he had not been, a breath test confirmed this). They accused him of throwing cans from his apartment. He was not there at the time of the incident. They arrested him for disorderly conduct when he protested being arrested for no good reason. The Tempe police denied my son a phone call and took his cell phone away from him. My son was forced to stay the night in jail which he said was terrifying. The next morning he was shackled, yes shackled and brought into the court to hear the charges against him. The D.A. [district attorney] said he could pay $150.00 to go to a reform class and the charges would be expunged from his record. I am in disbelief and appalled at the manner the police treated my son. Guilty until proven innocent. Is this really the way Tempe, AZ wants to be seen? This is a boy who has NEVER been in any trouble of any sort. He is level headed and smart. He really wanted to attend ASU but now I hope to transfer him out of the state as our whole family is very disillusioned with the "Police State" of Tempe. I work in the travel industry. I will not hesitate to inform my clients of this incident when looking for venues for events. This incident should be an embarrassment to the City of Tempe, ASU, and Maricopa County." Went to post a bond at this location. Was around 8pm and the officer that was helping me out was super rude. He looked so annoyed and irritated. After every question I asked he would make a loud "sigh" huffing and puffing. Honestly I was so confused. If you hate your job so much find a new one. No one wants to encounter your shitty costumer service. They need to replace that person and put someone that is friendly and actually gives out helpful information , they shouldn't be putting someone like him to represent the Tempe police department. People passing by we actually more helpful and nicer than the person that was getting paid to do his job smh. read more

These police have no regard for College students when they are attempting to arrest or question them.They arrested my daughter when she lied to them to help a friend who was drunk,gave her a misdemeanor charge, fingerprinted her,then made her stay in jail over night. She told the truth after she lied but they didn't care. After spending the night in jail they wouldn't give her phone back until a few days later, said they have to keep all phones that don't have a battery that's removable. This is an old law needs to be updated, almost all phones today don't have a battery you can remove. So she could'nt call me in PA at all., until a few days later,not even on mothers day.They could have given her a lesser charge but now she has to go to court, pay fines and go thru a drunk driving course to get this expunged.Is this suppose to offer some help for a person who made a mistake,she has a clean record. read more

I have lived and worked in Tempe, AZ for over 50 years and raised 4 children here. I have been a student here and 2 of my kids attended ASU. I have worked in this town and played in this town. I find the Tempe Police Department to be outstanding in their commitment to citizens and non-citizens alike. My family, having lived here so long, have experienced crime and witnessed crime and in every case the Tempe Officers were professional and kind. This is not say that there haven't been instances of Tempe Officers overreacting and/or underperforming...of course there have! The department has about 350 sworn officers serving over 170,000 full time citizens and over 60,000 college students. They respond to approximately 150,000 calls each year of every nature 24 hours per day. You take any industry operating under this pressure and danger and you will find a few poor employees making bad decisions or good employees who have a lapse in judgement! The difference here is that these employees wear a readily identifiable uniform which makes it easy for the narrow minded to make blanket judgements of them all for the bad actions of a few. I recognize that a policeman's bad decision can have catastrophic consequences either for the public or themselves....or both. Remember however, that their good decisions (which are the norm) will always be good for you but can still be very dangerous for them. Nearly all of the officers are just like you and me. These men and women want to serve and protect and are willing to place themselves between you and bodily harm, but at the end of their shift they want to go home to their their wives and children or their friends. They want to enjoy life in Tempe safely both on and off duty. If all of the ASU college students wore the same uniform can you imagine the public outrage against them all for the actions of a few! I am sorry if you feel you have had bad service from the Tempe Police Department. You should report these incidents to the Chief of Police, or the Tempe City Council, and if needed to the media. This will help all of the public. But, if you are quick to complain you should also in all fairness be just as quick to compliment both publicly and privately. read more

The Tempe police department is such a corrupt system. They think the are God's on this earth who are unstoppable. They can do whatever they want and there's not a single person that can do anything about it. Less the 5 hours ago the story begins. Me and a group of people were out for a friends birthday party. We bought a table at el hefe to celebrate, everyone was having a great time until someone from the crowd started to get to aggressive with a girl we were with. The guy was trying to pull her off the table to dance with him after she told him no several time he got angry and and tried to get on the table. Once he got up someone who was in our group told him to leave and get off the table, the guy got angry and pulled him off and started pushing him, our friend wasnt going to allow that so he pushed him back and someone got security. Security escorted the guy out. This all happened 10 mins before the club closed, so after we all had to leave the bar we were walking outside to get a taxi to go back to our hotel. On our way to the street the fellow who got escorted out was waiting. He started running across the road with a friend to attack our friend. They grabbed him and pushed him on the ground. Someone else in our group grabbed the attackers friend and pulled him off while myself tried to break up the fight going on with the other two. My friend who was doing nothing but trying to break up the fight then got pepper spray by an officer who had no idea what was going on. The officer ran into the scene which wasn't even bad and did that. He used such unbelievable excessive force. There was at least 6-8 office right there and there was no reason for them to use pepper spray. They then grabbed my friend who's was trying to break up the fight and tackled him to the ground, handcuffed him and Sat him on the curb. He was in unbelievable pain and he was begging for water and they would not even listen to him, they were just watching him suffer. After going over to the police and trying to explain what happen they told me to back up or I would be arrested next. I would not leave because they arrested him for no reason. I told them over and over he was just trying to break up a fight. There responds was ''well he's not the f**king cop is he''. They then took him down to the police station we're he is right now. I tried calling the jail house to bail him out and explain again what happened and they told me to stop calling and that my friend probably desevered it. The worst part is that they sprayed him on a public side walk were a ton of people got hit by the over spray. Everybody was in pain, they didn't even think about anybody else. A female friend still has it on her face, after trying to wash it off it only got worse. The police in this city are such a waste. I understand that they probably deal with drunken morons all the time but that doesn't give them the right to treat everybody like this. They didn't even ask what was going on, I had 4 witnesses trying to help but it did absolutely nothing. The worst part is the original attacker didn't even get in trouble. Sorry for my rant but our voices need to be heard, maybe one day the police will not be aloud to get away with anything. read more
