Hate that the store before had to close down, but excited to have this lil coffee shop in town. It's quirky and attached to a fun boutique. Husband loves the coffee and a few choice pastries when they offer them. Service has always been good and fast enough. Love seeing so many people stop by while they are in town. Hands down my favorite place to have coffee, gather my thoughts, browse for unique finds, and just generally find my peace. My husband and I love to walk here on weekend mornings to grab coffee and breakfast. The iced oatmilk latte + sugar free vanilla syrup is my FAVORITE, and I highly recommend the banana donut and the everything bagel kolache. Oh, and don't miss out on the scones - divine! It's such a neat place with a great vibe, a cute store attached with all kinds of wonderful things to shop for (clothes, jewelry, general goods), and a beautiful outdoor space for when the weather is nice. The staff are attentive and welcoming, the owners are generous to the community and always welcoming, and you're sure to see a bird dog or two if you visit. Quaint little shop in the corner of the downtown square. We're passing thru but wanted a cuppa Joe. Ordered the regular: decaf flat white made with heavy cream. We browsed the attached hipster shop while we waited (watch the first step coming back down to the coffee shop- it's a doozy!) Coffee was delicious, wonderful carmel flavored notes, not too bitter not too sweet. But it was just south of being hot (just above luke warm) and was probably shy of 8 oz total. And those two things made it over too soon. A strong 4 stars. read more

Although I totally appreciate the clean restroom. My daughter enjoyed the ice coffee. But I will not return. They let people bring their dogs into a food establishment. The staff has dogs running loose in the store. There is a lot of merchandise stairs and people. Not a place for dogs to be running loose. I will not return because if I were to be tripped by a dog and break a hip I would forced to sue! Allowing dogs is the most irresponsible thing a business can do. read more

Extremely slow. The espresso was very very sour and drink was watered down with almost all the ice melted. The espresso definitely needed to be re-dialed in. This is the second time I visited and same experience. read more

A small city of Brenham, found this gem of a place in the middle of town. Looked very new, clean and has that coffee/study vibe. Needed a coffee for the road and they did not disappoint, much variety on their menu. I grabbed a small Mescalito iced Mocha and a huge Kolache. If you happen to stop at this city, do stop here! Get some caffeine and get a move on, see you again. read more

I'm a BIG fan of good coffee! During a weekend trip to Brenham, I had to check out Mescalito coffee, because I heard so many great things about it. I brought my Mom along for a quick pick me up for the day. She ordered the Caramel Cosmos and I got the Flower Bomb Latte. Hear me loud and clear when I say this place lived up to the hype! We both thoroughly enjoyed our drinks. Shoutout to the baristas! It's connected to a cute, little shop called Ballad of the Bird dog. While waiting for our drinks, we walked up the steps to the shop a looked around. It literally took only five minutes for our drinks to be made, so we didn't initially get to see all the goodies they had to offer. It was a convenient way to pass our time though. If ever you decide to take a day/weekend trip to Brenham, put them on your list of places to visit. read more

I was walking around downtown Brenham on July the Fifth, trying to find some breakfast before I had to go to work. Nothing was open early, and I was already frustrated and hungry. But when I saw that Mescalito's Coffee was just opening, I walked over there immediately. At least I could get some coffee in my system, right? Of course right. The girls were all hard at work, yet they were still friendly. They helped me order two sausage and cheese kolaches, which had just come out of the oven. Very tasty. They had the real sausage, not like those hot dog wiener-in-a-bun kolaches that you get from a lot of donut shops. Well done. I also ordered a Cold Brew Mocha on a complete whim, because I had only been here once before, and I didn't know the menu. It turned out to be absolutely perfect. The flavor profile reminded me of a Starbucks Java Chip Frappe in cold brew form. I hadn't had a coffee drink hit me that hard since Silver Grizzly Espresso in Longview (at least six months ago). I will be ordering it again. Also, the restaurant ambience itself is really eclectic. Their coffee machines look really retro, but they also have a Blue Bell ice cream stand. If you're in Brenham, why not? Thank you to the ladies at Mescalito Coffee for being patient and hospitable to me on this hectic day-after-holiday morning. You get a five star review just for that. Good for remote work! The tables are large, and there are outlets designated for each one, so you won't be fighting to charge your electronics. They also have still and sparkling water on top that is self-serve, which I really appreciate! Also, of course, good coffee and nice people. Stop in! read more

We stopped in here on a little Sunday road trip. The space is lovely and it has a great vibe. Many people were using the space as a work space. I love the design of the coffee bar area. It has wonderful metal work across the front. The back of the coffee shop has a little store filled with t-shirts, sunglasses, fragrances, and candles. I guess they have dogs that are often there in the store. Bummer - they weren't there today. My friend's daughter ordered and iced latte. It wasn't that busy and there were three people working and it took at least 15 minutes to get her order. We even had to ask about it. :( This place seems to have a little bit of everything: food, ice cream, coffee, and the best part...dogs! read more

This place did not disappoint! The coffee was fabulous, the staff were so nice, and the vibes were perfect! I got a springtime special floral coffee and it was *chef's kiss*. If you are a lover of the floral coffees as I am, then I would highly recommend. They didn't shy away from those traditionally "scary" bold floral flavors. I also got a berry oat smoothie which was so delicious! I'm not normally a milk in my smoothie person, but the consistency wasn't compromised and the flavor was enhanced by the nuttiness of the oat milk. Also, they have sparkling water on tap! Ordered a decaf. Americano. They used tap water or water that was not filtered. It taste like Brazos River water. Also the location where you are suppose to add condiments doesn't have a counter or shelf to put your cup on while you are adding and stirring. Where you would normally have a condiment counter you have a trash can. Talk about crazy. Starbucks this is not! read more

One of the best spots in Brenham. Okay, one of the brightest spots in this entire area. Really tasteful and unique gifts in the store attached. My wife and I both had great coffee, hers being a seasonal drink. Ordered some seasonal egg nog pastry that was melt in your mouth delicious and made me feel like I was eating egg nog. I opened the back door to let a young man in who happened to be the owner. Super kind guy. My only suggestion is when you're selling a $4 pastry don't let the guy working the counter call it a donut!! ;) Oh, make sure you visit their liquor store catty corner to the coffee shop. read more

Stopped in a while back and grabbed a coffee and a breakfast kolache. I was happy with everything I got. The kolache was warmed up and had great flavor and the the breading was incredible. That can often be the downfall with them, but not at Mescalito. The coffee was a simple mocha iced coffee but it hit the spot. I liked the setup with the tables and such still being adjacent to the Ballad of the Bird Dog shop. Overall it has a nice relaxing feeling. read more

If I could rate this place zero stars I would. I have been at this establishment several times. I have never been so disgusted with someone's poor attitude in a work place in my entire life! I went into this establishment a week or so back, and was greeted by some girl who has colored hair. As I was ordering my coffee, I saw that girl which I found out her name is Alex, was walking around acting like she knows everything. Alex is rude and gave not only customers a nasty attitude but then she turned around and gave her coworkers problems by taking their orders that they were working on. She also gave me attitude when I asked for hot coffee but instead gave me a completely different order! She gives off this attitude that she is better than everyone else. She has made my drink wrong a couple of times now and I will NOT be returning back if I see her behind the counter. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!! How dare someone who works as a barista be rude to me??? I have a sick mother and father and I was floored with how bad this encounter was. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU RESPECT YOURSELF YOU WILL GET NASTY ATTITUDE FROM A GIRL NAMED ALEX!!!! read more

My wife and I came to Brenham for a day out before Memorial Day weekend. We stopped here for a coffee and I was very pleasantly surprised with the Cold Brew Mocha. It was very delicious. Honestly top 3 coffees I've ever drank!! The baristas were welcoming as well and my wife was able to look around at the clothes while we waited. 10/10 read more

Just another modern coffee shop. Decent place for a pit stop if you are driving by and want to checkout the downtown. But they are extremely slow! Took 20 mins for heating a ready made bagel and making a hot latte! Also, customers could use a little bit of smile from the hostess and the servers... looked like they weren't happy at all to be working on a Sunday. read more

Established in 2018.

Started as a concept to have a coffee corner in the back of our retail shop, Ballad of the Bird Dog, and quickly grew to one of the best and only craft coffee locations in town.

Meet the Business Owner: Jared A.

Jared and his wife Kathleen moved to Brenham from Houston in 2019. Jared is a civil engineer and project manager in the oil and gas industry and Kathleen is a pastry chef. Both have a passion for quality and bringing exceptional experiences to Downtown Brenham.

So when I found out that I could no longer get Starbucks and make my own cold brew at home I was at a loss of what I could do. And I didn't want to buy a coffee every day from our local shop. When I saw your bag of coffee I prayed it would be good because I love making my own cold brew at home. I tried it and WOW! Better than Starbucks... better than any cold brew I have ever had!! I am hooked for life!! So please never stop making or selling your cold brew jet fuel or I will be the most upset woman in the whole world! I am so happy I took a chance and tried it because I never knew cold brew could be any better than any cold brew I had in the past and I tell everyone to try it! I don't drink hot coffee because of the higher acidity and heart burn issues but I tell everyone I know... just buy that brand because if their cold brew is off the charts number one in my book... than I'm sure all of their coffee is amazing and they have told me it is! So keep on making your brand of coffee please so everyone in the world can keep on brewing and I'm enjoying the best coffee in the world. Starbucks ain't got nothin on y'all! And trust me I have been a Starbucks lover for about 25 years and I never thought I would taste another coffee and say wow that's better than Starbucks... but after trying your cold brew...
