As a NYC native I came here with some optimism, seeing that the name of this chain is a Yiddish word I had assumed it might be a Jewish establishment. We all know that Jewish folks make amazing bagels. I have to say this was the worst bagel I've ever had. I ordered an everything bagel (toasted) with plain cream cheese. For some odd reason, they only put seeds and "seasoning" on the top half of the bagel. There was almost no seasoning though. I didn't taste a drop of salt. The cream cheese quality is poor. It has a frothy texture and tasted more like butter. 10/10 would not recommend. I have half a mind to not even eat the bialy I purchased alongside it. Also, the bagel tasted like sourdough. Very odd. The rating is high I imagine because this is a city that doesn't do bagels as a staple, so I can see why it's viewed as the "best bagel in KC". But for those of you have a NYC standard/palette, pass on this place because it really is underwhelming. read more

Meshuggah means"crazy" which could mean crazy good but here I think may be more of your Section 8 Catch-22 kind of crazy. A bagel joint stone cold empty at 9:00a is a definite warning sign anywhere other than, oh, Salt Lake City or Moscow. The bagels were fresh, but more like rolls without holes. They were dense and the skins too tough. The cream cheese was very expensive with not even so much as a good serving knife to justify it. I'll start that the bagels were better than any chain place around. It is nice to have a bagel place in Overland Park again. While the bagels were ok I would recommend adding just a little more dough to each one as some of them were pretty thin, thus a little more cooked. I agree with another reviewer, the line for ordering and waiting needs to be fixed. Overall if you want a bagel that doesn't scream chain food, go here for an authentic bagel. read more

The bagel are very good close to NY bagels , crunchy on the outside & they have a large variety of spreads & bagels . I have 2 issues with this establishment . They hardly put any cream cheese on the bagel and the prices are expensive . If your going to charge people please put enough cream cheese . You pay for the bagels then an extra 1.50 for plain cream cheeses & special flavored 3.50 and up . read more

The bagels are decent. The real reason for the 3 stars is built around the service. I go in and pay north of 8 dollars for a bagel with cream cheese and get told there is a toaster against the wall customers can use to toast the bagel. When you go to a restaurant you want a completed product not a half cooked attempt. Customers were clustered around this kitchen toaster to toast bagels. Unreal. It pains me to say this but you get a better experience at the big chain spots, I'll just go there. read more

I'm from nyc but moved to Hawaii so I have been sorely missing a good bagel. when I saw this place, I was soooooo excited! The lox was very good. But the bagel was a bit too...old tasting. Like it hurt to chew. We got 3 bagels, one with strawberry cream cheese (not me...that's sacrilege), one with plain cream cheese, and one with lox. We also got a side of lox for 2 bagels to go. Total came to $34. Is that expensive? I can't recall Bc everything is like that in Hawaii. lol read more

The thing I miss most about my trips to NYC is the bagels. Meshuggah definitely is the closest thing to that in KC but I was really disappointed when I realized they didn't offer any bagel breakfast sandwiches such as a bacon egg and cheese. And more of a request than a review; I still crave the roasted coconut bagel and chai cream cheese they served at Brooklyn Bagel in NYC, any chance you could add something similar to your menu? You would make me a regular with the addition of that and a bacon egg and cheese bagel sandwich :) read more

Terrific kansas city area has a bagel maker again however, the bagels are too expensive, lack density and counter service is inefficient. Why should it take 10 minutes to get 6 un sliced bagels to go? Why do some counter workers wear gloves and some don't? Why are freezer bags not provided with bulk orders? Why are bagels $1.50ea? I really wanted to like this place. After driving by the original 39th street location multiple times after hours, I was happy to see a location closer to us. Chaos as soon as we walked in the door. The guy who greeted us and took our order was very nice and patient- but that was the highlight. 3 bagels with schmears, mine had capers and lox. $25!!! Way overpriced- and then on top of that sticker shock they ask to add gratuity. I work in the restaurant industry, gratuity for what? I bussed my own table. They held out giving me my beverage until my order was brought out 10 minutes later. Didn't understand why. The bagels were super tough and my son had major trouble eating his with braces. The lox was pretty good, but no better then what you can buy a lot cheaper somewhere like Trader Joe's. Paid extra for capers, counted about 5 in total. Drag. When I was leaving I stopped an employee to ask for a refill on my soft drink. She seemed agitated that I interrupted her chatting with a friend. She said they weren't supposed to give refills but she could make an exception- all while she was slurping down her own beverage. If I'm going to pay $2 for a drink and eat an over salted $10 bagel, the least you can do is not punish me for asking for a refill. Oh well. read more

Was excited when they opened here out south but encountered some issues. They have the tables too close to the ordering area so it gets crowded. I had to toast my own bagel & at $1.50 each that's less than ideal. When toasting, it was proven I was in the way of the employees coming out of the kitchen and going behind the line. I was annoyed trying to figure out how their toaster (had to reheat several times) as I didn't want to burn my bagel. I overheard employees talking badly about an unhappy guest and one employee not involved saw I could hear and tried to shrug it off. I almost wanted to say something to management but I feel it wouldn't have mattered based on how they were speaking of the other guest. Not sure if make my way here again as its expensive & I sure didn't like the way they spoke. Eh. read more

Bagels are fine - Like my previous review from their original establishment. However, to charge me a dollar (50 cents each) for cups of tap water for my two children is ludicrous. Are you kidding me??? Tap water in a small styrofoam cup??? I was a "regular" customer here - meeting business associates for meetings. Seriously, some of the best bagels I've ever experience and I know a good bagel. The onion bagel is outrageously good. We went back for bagel boards this week and I was overwhelmed with the pastrami salmon. The cream cheese schmeres are all delicious and high-quality. Went to the KC store for years until they finally opened a store in Liberty, great idea. Lived in NY most of my life so am VERY familiar with NY bagels. These definitely do compare. EXCELLENT BAGELS!!! I grew up in New York... I have been to almost every bagel shop in the city. Meshuggah Bagels are absolutely as good, if not better than any I have ever had in New York!!! I LOVE the bagel boards Meshuggah has on their menu... Obviously, the guy who made the long, exhausting, post about how that was not a New York thing, apparently isn't a true New Yorker (and does not know what a real bagel tastes like either). I have had many bagel boards from Russ and Daughter's in New York!!! I LOVE the cozy farmhouse decor. It is warm and inviting! Not a big location. Set up of the tables is awkward where you have to cut through the line to get in line because there is a long table leaving a small walkway. They have a base selection of bagels and schmears. The bagels were average. The schmears are amazing and they are very generous in his much they give. Service was quick but average in friendliness being generous. According to a sign, everything is kosher which could be very important to some people. read more

I love the bagels and the large variety of schmears. The bagels are perfectly baked and the schmears have great flavors. The only problem is that the prices for single bagels with schmear are a little high. It's worth it to buy a half dozen or dozen bagels with a tub of schmear though. read more

What a joke. I saw a profile on kcpt and was excited at the prospect of authentic New York style bagels in kc. Well I've been to New York and eaten the bagels, these are not New York style bagels. They're heavy and dense which indicates little to no time " proofing " as they say in the bread world. Not to mention the uninspired wait staff and the fruit flies in the display case.
