Decided to get a couple of dozen donuts for the office and home so I visited the main street location. Big mistake. HORRIFIC customer service. Walked in to basically dirty looks by two employees one man one woman. No hello, said nothing to me. So I ordered an iced latte... another big mistake. I asked for vanilla or simple syrup and she snapped back that all they had was pumpkin and Irish cream. There were at least six other flavors that had no pump?? Definitely my go-to donut place in KC! My favorite is the glazed donut. They are dense and fluffy at the same time. And have the perfect glaze to donut ratio. I also love that they have donut holes. Have to come here early like most donut shops because their inventory was pretty low. Overall they still had plenty of tasty ones that are all hard to pass up. Service was quick and simple and it moved very quickly. The staff was nice and gave us their recommendations. Just a couple seconds in the microwave made it a warm morning treat. I go here twice a week for my Mom when I'm here taking care of her. LaMar's always has fresh doughnuts and the employees are incredibly helpful and fast. They have stickers on the floor for social distancing during COVID, no more than 10 people allowed in at a time, everyone wearing masks. While I know that won't be needed soon, I've been going back and forth from Florida to Missouri for a year now and the safety measures they have taken have meant a lot to me. I honestly don't even eat doughnuts, but my 80 year old Mom loves these so much, it's a drive I make twice a week to get her her LaMar's. I was looking for US Toy (it's not on Holmes) and turned around in Larmar's parking lot. Do you think I'm just going to turn around on a Saturday morning and not stop? It's a doughnut shop for heavens sake. I went in, hoping they would have apple fritters, which they did. I don't like coffee and water cups were a quarter (I dropped it a star from 2011), so I did't drink anything. I ate my doughnut inside. It was fresh and delicious. Lamar's truly are the best donuts but not all franchises are the same. This location is one of those that just doesn't hit the mark and I believe they get their donuts from the Main St. location. The donuts are half the size they used to be and the prices have skyrocketed. While small, the fritter was still good as was the long john. Glazed donuts were stale and the icing was caked on them, and the old fashioned was flat (how does that even happen). 3 specialty and 3 regular donuts just over $16. Patient and helpful staff pointed out customer (and their) favorites which helped me opt for the chocolate and glazed (raised) donuts. The girl behind the counter helped me pick out two dozen to take in. I told her I was clueless since I am very sensitive to sweets- she mentioned their 'plain cake 'and 'plain sour cream' which meant no glaze- she threw one in for me to try and wow, I couldn't believe how moist it was! The reasons I love LaMar's are as follows: They have actual hours and they are posted on the door. They are open until 1pm. After 12pm you get buy one get one free donuts. You get a punch card and your 6th punch equals a free donut. Monday is DOUBLE PUNCH DAY My Jo Card lets you buy six and get 6 free. I have had the Glazed, the Chocolate Bavarian, the Cinnamon and the Strawberry filled. I like the Glazed because it's a big fat donut. The Cinnamon was a delight... not too icing-y. Every time I go to the location off of college Blvd in overland park ks, the employee named JEFF, that apparently is a Crack head bc he tries to over charge by 20$ on my last visit.... placed several call in orders and not get what I ordered. ...always lots of excuses when I ask wth. I ordered 8 plain cake donuts and 4 glazed for my non diabetic clients to make a dozen. I was not impressed, being that this is the same guy who overcharged me by 20 dollars on my last week's visit. I have a weakness. This weakness is Lamar's Donuts. Donuts runs are a weekly occurrence (sometimes twice and week...shhh, don't tell) for my friends and I. While we prefer their location off of Main Street, this one does the trick, as well. There's really no need to sing the praises of LaMar's but I guess...why not?! I've never been to this location before until today. It was the most happening place in the strip mall that is for certain. A steady flow of customers and cars in and out, one by one, getting a single donut (how is this even possible??) to one customer walking out with four dozen. That's my kind of customer! The two women behind the counter at 7:45 am this morning were as sweet as could be, friendly and personable. Front of business staff makes or breaks a biz, and these ladies were top notch! We ordered a dozen. It was easy to choose, because everything looked so yummy! After my first bite of cherry frosted deliciousness melted in my mouth with hot coffee, I knew I'd be back again. The donuts are great. The service was a tad disappointing. It was a busy morning but all the customers were lined up properly according to who came in first. The two ladies at the counter did not greet me or my husband and one lady asked the man behind us "Can I help you?" When we were obviously there first and had not been helped yet. The second lady did the same thing and proceeded to help the man behind us when we obviously had not been helped. This was a tad annoying. I'm sure they sensed my annoyance afterwards. Ok I love Lamars and would call it the best donut shop in KC hands down. The only reason this is four stars is that this location seems to not hit the mark like the other locations do. I always get the fluff filled bar which is like the donut version of t bone steak and sheet cake. It's huge, filling and sweet. If you were on death row this would be one of your requests. This location sometimes does not fill them completely, I have had many with next to no filling and for some reason lately they are rather small for some reason. These are not cheap donuts so you expect quality and consistency. I visit Lamars around town but this is the only place that can be hit or miss. Clean store with a good selection of donuts. The two ladies working the counter were quick and had decent attitudes. The icing on the long johns is a little....hard? Stiff? I can't quite place my finger on it, but I don't like the texture as well as the frosting I've had on even grocery store long johns. It's almost waxy. The cake donuts are the real stand out for LaMar's (and it's saying a lot that I typed that since I'm not a huge fan of cake donuts normally). I would love to eat these more often. They taste so good and I feel so guilty! I have been to several locations and they are all consistent. They do a mean ass glazed (I use the glazed as a measure for all doughnut stores) and I also loved the chocolate glazed, which is basically a layer of chocolate right over the glazed icing. Wow! I think they may have changed their name since I moved away, but I grew up with "Lamar's" I would be treated with a trip to Lamar's as a young child to get a fresh donut on an early saturday morning. I always loved the glazed and the well, I don't know the technical name, but out in california we call them french crullers i think. at age 10 i called them "tractor wheels". not to be mixed up with the non eggy version that is more like a cake donut. these guys were so light and eggy they would almost melt in your mouth and NEVER left me clutching my stomach thinking "oh god, i think i ate too much donut". I moved away from my beloved Lamar's at age 14. The following years I would come to realize that perhaps i was just young and disillusioned.
